Sorry, messed up the thread already!

sweetkitty · 05/10/2005 09:30

Morning found new thread!!

Feeling a bit better this morning babe's still in a weird position though. We were going to go shopping this morning to Glasgow but DD is so unwell with her cold that we thought it best to stay in. So more DIY!

Am going to get my haircut as well (not before time)!

iris66 · 05/10/2005 10:36

Hi there - sweetkitty have you tried physiotherapy for your back/hip? it worked for me (and lyra I think). Hope you have a lovely time having your hair done (note to self - must book haircut to address vugly 50's style bouffant that's developing as a result of bizarre fattening effect that being pg is having on hair!)
Weather here is pants today - misty and drizzly (and a bit nippy noodles to boot!). Was hoping for some sunshine as I've got about a million towels to dry today (ok so I exaggerate - but only a bit !!) Our hall radiator sprang a massive leak yesterday morning & the plumber can't come until lunchtime so I've had to use almost every towel in the house trying to stop the carpet being completely soaked! Can't improve my mood by eating either as I've discovered I'm getting the most awful scoured sensation from throat to stomach (heartburn presumeably - not had it before) when I eat anything acidic (which I normally do alot - tomatoes, orange juice, brown sauce, vinegar, pickles) Also, because of radiator/plumber I can't go to a "rare occasion" coffee & cake get together down our street.
Sorry to sound like a spoilt teenager (have finished stamping my feet now) I'm feeling much better for offloading! Think I feel a hormones-a raging-cleaning fest coming on
Sending happy calm thoughts to you all!! iris xx

Ohh new threads and new beginnings....

I have just been in members profiles checking out pictures...

Sweetkitty that 3D image is amazing!!!!!

I had some good news too. Someone will fix my car for £3000. I thought it was a write off. I can't claim insurance as i'm TPFT but £3000 is the best I could have hoped for really.

I just read about Nell Mcandrew and her poor baby having ABS...... maybe the newspapers will highlight it now as alot of people are unaware of it....i'm so lucky and a little 5 year old girl that has heard about my baby and who also suffers from ABS has written me a letter...I'll let you know what she writes when I receive it.

More consultants appointments today. Dont even know what this one is about i've had so many now!!!

So work cant make me go maternity till 36 weeks and i'm only 25 weeks!! seriously avoiding housework but have got baby bags ready just in case i suddenly pop!!!!

Sounds like everyone is getting pain problems.....I'm suffereing back problems like last time but I'm also constantly getting cramp in my feet and calfs.....I can cope with that but the varicose veins must stay away!! Strectch marks have already ruined me!!!

Iris.....heartburn can be a pain...if the old wives tales are anything to go by bubs will have loads of hair....my DD did and I had heartburn terribly. Milk works for me. What a pain about the radiator!!!! espoecially with carpets..are they ruined or can they be salvaged?

lyra41 · 05/10/2005 12:56

Hi there

Just a quickie from work.

Iris, I'm sipping milk as I type, seems to help with the acid reflux in the short term. Someone else recommended lemon juice in hot water, which seems a bit odd, but it worked in the night for me.

better go and prepare for my next class now, so see y'all later

Rachey1969 · 05/10/2005 15:18

Argh! totally sympathise. Am up to my neck in sand, cement, mortar, lath n plaster - you name it. On the bright side, the roof is finished and the inside should only be a couple more weeks and then we can decorate! DS1 asked me if the builders had 'six packs'? Sadly the answer is no, more like beer barrels dammit!

Iris - I find a small drink of milk after meals settles my heartburn a bit and then a good slug of gavisicon before I go to bed works fairly well.

horseshoe · 05/10/2005 15:23

Ohhh you should see the ones that came to put my sisters scaffolding up......and as for her postman!!!!!! I'm moving in with her i think

Rachey1969 · 05/10/2005 15:36

Last time I had the builders in (previous house) they were gorgeous, very buff. I wasn't bad myself then after 3 kids and whilst chatting them up over a coffee, I discovered they came from an area of town where I used to teach and that they were only 17 , yes you guessed it, it turns out I taught them in Year 2! at the time they were 7 and I was 22!!!

iris66 · 05/10/2005 18:30

Well, the plumber's just left (old and vugly - we don't have much eye candy round here I'm sorry to say) and all he had to do was tighten the nut on the pipe! ooooh soo embarassing was left wondering why I hadn't thought of that - or more to the point why DH didn't think to try it!!!!!!

Thanks for all the heartburn tips girls - I've been guzzling actimel or milk before eating anything & things seem to have settled down. Don't know why I didn't think that it was heartburn in the first place (but then I've never had it before) talk about pg brain - there really is no hope for me!! Anyway - off now to try "stain devilling" the rust marks off all the towels I used to mop up the leak!

OP posts:
GeorginaP · 05/10/2005 19:08

Hi girls.... if you want eye candy I can TOTALLY recommend Matthew McF in Pride & Prej. Went to see it last night and WOOF WOOF! Good god that man can fill a pair of breeches like no other. Had incredibly saucy dream about him as well...... sigh!

Can I join the whinger group?! Bloody sciatic pain. Feel as if my right butt cheek got hot poker in it most of the time. And acid reflux..... blurgh. Actually lost my lunch today beause of it. Just about managed to make it to kitchen sink....lovely view for neighbours!

Top tip for acid reflux - Gaviscon. Tastes awful but it works. Get prescrip from doc and it's free!

Have eaten own weight in cherry crumble today and spent afternoon watching Scrubs on DVD. DD at pre-school, so made most of silence!

Hey Horseshoe - hang in there hon. Fab news about the car. And as everyone else has said, your bub is a fighter (just like her Ma). You're nearly at magic 28 weeks. Sod the housework, put your feet up and let everyone else run around after you.

OK, time to start supper.

Anyone up for Supernanny tonight? Have perverse pleasure in watching as your child is NEVER as bad as those on the telly!

G xx

GeorginaP · 05/10/2005 19:09

Forgot to say..... also saw Dirty Den in cinema last night. He looks like someones slept in his face....

He also saw P&P.

Maybe getting some acting tips?!

sweetkitty · 06/10/2005 15:41

Hello

Had haircut this morning of course all the ladies were talking about babies, one sitting next to me had 2 girls 18 months apart said it was a nightmare - that cheered me up!

Another vote for Gaviscon here, tastes horrid (peppermint one is the bet) but it works fast. Think I must go against the heartburn = loads of hair rule as DD only had a little tuft of hair on top when she was born and even now it's only starting to grow properly get jealous when I see other little girls her age with flowing locks and hair bands in, think it's because she is blonde, dark haired babies seem to have more hair.

Have my "booking in appt" with the midwives on the 19th even though I've already had an antenatal appt here and 2 scans at the other hospital. Will suss them out about the homebirth too DP has reluctantly come around to the idea now as well.

Eshay · 06/10/2005 21:11

One more vote for Gaviscon. i used to get heartburn a lot with DS but this time I've been pretty good - for now. It also seemed to help not to eat large meals but have smaller meals more frequently. Thomas doesn't have too much hair either so more evidenvce against heartburn = lots of hair. Sorry.

Has anyone else started having nose bleeds? I had quite lot of them last time and they seem to have started again with this pg. I'm constantly having to blow my nose and before I know it I have a bright red tissue. Quite annoying when you're walking along or are sat on a train.

iris66 · 06/10/2005 22:10

Just a quick note whilst DH is engrossed in spooks (my TV boredom threshold has sunk to an all time low)
I may have found a possible new heartburn cure!! - coke?!?!? Very bizarre as it's fizzy & therefore acidic (just as an aside.....did you know that when the concentrate is transported the lorry has to display a "hazardous liquid" sign as it's so corrosive! AND if you leave a milk tooth in a glass of coke it will completely dissolve within a week!) but a friend recommended it & I (very bravely in my opinion) gave it a test run after having dinner tonight (stuffed aubergine rolls covered in lashings of tomato sauce with chips and vinegar (crap combo I know but what I fancied and instant heartburn normally) and guess what - no heartburn!! result!! Don't think I'll be trying it on a regular basis mind but I was getting so sick of milk (which I hate) and mints (which I'm going off at a reapid rate of knots). I'm going get gaviscon and start the water & lemon thing tomorrow (isn't that what you drink for liver detoxing?) so will let you know how that goes too.

Didn't have heartburn with DD & she had a right mop of black hair she now has mid brown with 1/2 a blonde fringe (gorgeous - all natural - like a mallen streak!)
Sweetkitty - is your booking appointment because you're having home birth or have you moved hospitals? I've finally convinced DH on a home birth as the only advantage the midwife led unit locally had over home was a bigger bath!! Saw MW today & she has to come & see me at home in a month or so to talk it through. Is that the same for you?
Georgie - there are acupressure points that you can massage for back/sciatic pain (I posted them on the last thread) PMSL at your description of Dirty Den- fab imagery!
Horseshoe - how did your consultants appointment go on Wed? All ok I hope. Keep your feet up!! (carpets not ruined BTW - however awaiting results of stain devils before giving verdict on rust stained towels..... why oh why didn't I use all the old threadbare ones?!!!!)
Lyra - what do you teach? (you've probably already mentioned before - sorry but couldn't find it)
Eshay - no nosebleeds here thankfully - but, on the bright side, at least they guarantee you space (if not a seat) on the train
......and so ends iris' waffle for the day Having my fat bouffant strimmed tomorrow so will be feel as pretty as sweetkitty (until I walk out the salon!lol) take care all x

Mornin all

Not much to say really, but here I am anyway. Dh is working from home today so will have the computer for 8 hours, so I thought I'd get a post in quick.

I dreamt I had a girl last night, strange as I know already I'm carrying a boy. Then started thinking again about the best reusable nappies to buy, had to stop that fast, or I'd have been awake from then on! I think I'm going to start out with disposables and then start on the washables when bub's about 8 weeks and I'm more organised (in theory!).

Does anyone have home help planned for after baby's born? My mil has offerred to come and stay for a week or 2, and I'll probably take her up on it, even though she gets on my nerves sometimes. It will be good to be able to rest up and get feeding established.

My physio starts on Monday, so still sufferring with the sacro-iliac pain at the mo. I've been to ante-natal yoga twice, which was good, but so gentle it's hard to imagine it's doing me much good. The teacher is really funny : he's about 55, short and stocky with a broad Manchester / Salford accent, and he calls us all "girls" - not what I was expecting at all. He seems very knowledgable though.

My manager at work has asked what I'd like from work as a present when I go on mat leave. Any ideas? They'll probably collect between 50 and 100 quid. I think I'll ask for John Lewis vouchers, and then maybe I can buy my washable nappies there. Also I love their nursery department and even if I don't get the nappies there, I can always see something lovely I'd like to buy.

Iris

I'm a Speech and Language therapist, and I work in a school for children with ASD, I love it there, although 3 days a week is enough! You are a healer are you? Is that your job, or do you do something else as well?

Eshay · 07/10/2005 09:37

Lyra,

I forget, is this your first or do you already have baby stuff? For DS my work gave me all sorts of great things (bath, Tommy carrier, clothes) but another great idea is a baby rocker. Not for immediate use but fairly soon after the baby is born. Thomas loved his. I bought mine from Arogs - much cheaper than John Lewis or Mothercare!

DH will stay at home for a week or so after the birth and then we'll probably have my parents come over for a week or 2. That's what we did last time. It was a bit much having them here that long (especially for poor DH) but it was very useful, especially since I ended up with a C-section. I could just focus on resting, feeding and cuddling and they did the rest. Breakfast in bed for me and all!

Yesterday I had my first experience of someone giving up their seat for me on the tube. Hurray! Proof that I no longer look super fat but actually pregnant!

Rachey1969 · 07/10/2005 11:22

I have to disagree with the hearburn = hair theory as well, all mine were little baldies (now all blondies). Ds2 did have a lot of dark hair at birth but it rubbed off within weeks and grew back white! Sweetkitty - my dd also had very sparse hair (like me as a babe) until about 3/4 really. Now she is 7 and has beautiful blonde locks down her back (just like me except mine is growing so fast I have this really strange dark root... )

Rachey1969 · 07/10/2005 11:54

really dark roots, that should be!

All I am hoping for after the birth is that someone occupies the other 3 kids without them feel hard done by! I expect my mum will rush down (luckily she will have to stay in a hotel) I really couldn't cope with anyone else in the house all the time. Dp parents live down the road so his mum will be lovely I know and a great help without moving in!

I',m finding it hard to do more than two busy days in a row, I was out all day yesterday and now today I am bushed. Tomorrow dp and I are going to watch football away in Yeovil (in the interests of relationship harmony and brownie points...) I had trouble getting seats, I think we may end up in the disabled section!

Lyra - I'd get vouchers to be honest, then you can choose yourself and even buy more boring bits and pieces. I'll probably just get a bunch of flowers from my team, there are only 6 of us.

GeorginaP · 07/10/2005 15:16

Hi there. Anyone got Friday fever? Am dreaming of the days when Friday used to mean end of the week drinks in a cool bar followed by great end of evening snog with dh...... ho hum!

Have mad craving for Burger King. Might get dh to pop down and pick some up for supper! Burger King is one of the major food groups right?!

Am hoping that when time arrives for Beany to make her apperance, Ma and Pa can make a mad dash up the A3 to look after DD whilst dh and I dash to hospital where I hopefully don't throw HUGE hissy fit when there isn't a birthing pool available!!!!

Have booked tickets for the 3 of us to go see Cinderella at Wimbeldon theatre. Can't wait! Hope DD enjoys it. It'll be the first time we've taken her to a pantomime. Also booked tickets for us to go see new Wallace and Grommit movie tomorrow.... will stuff DD full of sweets so she won't complain!

Just had new chair and sofabed delivered so I'm off to sit my ass down on them and look thru Ikea catalogue.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Tickle · 07/10/2005 20:15

Hi all - thought I would sneak into the Jan 06 thread, as I am officially due 02 Jan... altho at my 20 wk scan they said 'baby is growing very well!' and I could see 22 Dec as the EDD on their screens

Quick summary of Tickle's recent achievements: Married to danish dh for 7yrs; mum of 3, dd1 (6), ds1 (nearly 5), dd2 (18mths). Born & bred UK, but moved to a small island in Denmark just before dd2 was born. Just opened our new business - a nature centre/cafe here, and feeling knackered most of the time!

Look forward to getting to know you all a bit better in the coming months

sweetkitty · 07/10/2005 21:30

hi tickle welcome to the Due in Jan thread, no 4 will be asking you for advice in the coming months.

We all went to Glasgow for the day, DP was buying boring work clothes and new suits so I sneaked off to look at baby clothes with DD (whos 14 months so very unimpressed) sneaked a look at newborn clothes feel like I have to buy this new baby some new things and it's unfair for her to have all DDs things. Keep looking ay boys clothes too why? Did treat myself to a new pair of boots, they are brown leather wedge heel, kind of biker looking if that makes sense? Hope my calves will fit into them all winter though.

Lyra - you will have to tell me how the physio goes, I'm hoping to be referred soon once I've my booking in appt (!!??)

Iris - I'm having a booking in appt as we have just moved house and area so whole new midwife team

I don't expect any help apart from DPs 2 weeks off when this ones born. At least this time family won't come and stay for a few days, I know that sounds bad but DPs mum came down when DD was days old and it was a nightmare, she complained about not being allowed to smoke in the house constantly (still does!) and that we booked her into a hotel instead of her staying in our tiny flat. We are about an hour away from family now, close but not too close. DPs sister will be on standby to look after DD when the time comes.

Better sign off now I'm waffling

lyra41 · 08/10/2005 18:05

Hi Trickle

Welcome to our thread, hope you'll be a regular poster.

Today has been good, I've just had a reflexology treatment, which was wonderful, I feel very relaxed and happy now. Baby boy seems to find the treatment very stimulating, as he was rolling around in there and kicking like crazy.

Went for a walk to Lyme Park in Derbyshire with some friends from church this morning, and felt very proud to keep up and keep walking for about an hour and a half. We did get soaked however, so a warm bath then the reflexology was just the ticket!

I'm being a terrible sucker for pg magazines at the moment. I don't know why I keep buying them, coz they all say the same old thing, bit I can't seem to help myself.

Anyone else planning to get organised with buying Xmas pressies early so we don't have it to do when heavily pg? I'm planning to go shopping at half term and get it all out of the way if poss.
Any idea for stocking fillers for a 10 year old dd and 12 year old ds would be appreciated, preferably not my usual offerring of rubbish that gets left on the floor for the rest of the year!

Iris - re. your friend's theory re. the curative properties of coke on indigestion - I've discovered that Dandelion and Burdock works the same way, which is great as I crave it anyway. I have similar worries for my teeth though, even though I get the sugar free variety.

Does everyone else have a very rainy day today in their area??

lyra41 · 08/10/2005 18:06

Sorry, I should have said Tickle, it must have been the rain making me type Trickle, either that or my pelvic floor!
