Jaysfirst · 18/10/2005 15:37

wow someones out there!! guess people do tend to run out of things to say although i am a bit of a waffeler and can go on about nothing given half the chance!
Have to say that hubby and i have been ultra organised in getting everything ready for our new arrival. The only thing we have left to get is the matteress for the Cotbed, we have everything else, so much so infact that i find myself going to the nursery and sitting on the chair looking roound ... its just the waiting now!
Do you know what you are having, and when its due? what do you do from home? not sure i would have the motivation to work from home, id be constantly distracted by the tele!!

iris66 · 18/10/2005 15:51

Wow - and I thought I was organised!! - but in all fairness we didn't have to get much in the way of bedding/0-3mths clothing etc
We're having a son who looked the spit of DH in the scan & so reduced me to tears (of joy, not dispair, I hasten to add! lol) He's due 23rd Jan, 17th Jan, 14th Jan... take your pick as mw doesn't seem to be able to make up her mind. Personally I think he'll be here around the 13th but he'll come when he's cooked I suppose. I'm getting impatient too though and wish I was further along than I am. Work is holistic therapy (various) what do you do? Have you got your details on the Jan stats thread yet?

OP posts:
Jaysfirst · 18/10/2005 16:05

whats the Jan stats thread ? i kinda keep my eye on threads in here and in Dec as i am due 31 December so not really sure where i fall yet! As for clothes and things, i think we are quite lucky in that this is the first grandchild on both mine and my hubbys side so she has been spoilt even before she gets here!
I am a probation officer, but i dont think that i will be going back to work afterwards. Am in a lucky position that means i dont need to but who knows how i will feel i a few mths time!!

lyra41 · 18/10/2005 16:33

Hi girls

I had the day off work today, coz I had SUCH a bad nite with leg cramps. Napped this morning and I'll probably go back for an hour or so before I make the tea. Did get lots of washing done and my bed changed, which is always good. there's nothing quite like clean sheets is there?

My brain is pretty empty today, must be tiredness.

I'm very impatient for ds2 to come too, I'm due Jan 1st, but have gone late (2wks, then 1 wk) with my other 2.

I'm not remotely ready for his arrival, however. The spare room is still fairly full of junk, the builders are really dragging their feet about turning our loft into a cupboard-lined, clean and pleasant storage room and I haven't bought a pram yet. I have bought lots of cute sleepsuits and cardis however, which is silly as I have a good friend who has offerred to pass lots on. Hard to resist though isn't it?

lyra41 · 18/10/2005 16:35

Oooh yes, and I bought a "birthing ball" from Argos today for £3.99, aka an exercise ball, which, according to our NCT teacher is the very best thing to sit on to get bubs into a head down backwards facing position. Just need to pump it up now....

Jaysfirst · 18/10/2005 16:48

lol good luck with pumping up that ball....i managed half of mine b4 giving up and getting dh hubby to finish it...i love sitting on it, so comfy and as well as being good for getting the babs in the right position its good for your posture and any bad back probs, oh and it strenthens your tummy muscles..an all round good buy i say!!

sweetkitty · 18/10/2005 16:53

hiya

Firstly yes I have used breastshells in the past they are very good for wearing in the first few weeks when you can't bear anything touching your nipples. Not a good look though I agree! Will invest in another pair although I'm always far too lazy to sterilise them so end up not using them. Unpacked another box today (only about 9 to go now) and found huge pack of breastpads.

Jaysfirst - can totally sympathise about the SPD my tailbone/hip are killing me today, feel all weighed down and bloated. It's actually a little better this time than last as I I find it's worse if I'm sitting for a while and stiffen up although theres not much chance of that with a 15 month old. Last time I had a desk job that was uncomfortable. But it disappeared when DD was born so fingers crossed.

I've also bought nothing for this one yet, need to sort out DDs old clothes and then see what we need. Got moses basket already (which DD spent about 3 nights in) but need double buggy and another cot. Have been looking at cute little outfits though.

Well have my booking in appt tomorrow morning, will ask for a homebirth and osteopath for sacro-iliac pain and see what happens.

Jaysfirst · 18/10/2005 17:00

i hadnt thought about breastshells, although i am now....if my boobs and nps are as sore as they wer ein the first three months i want steel plated ones!!!!

Resting does help the SPD Sweet, but i know what you mean , if i sit for too long it gets worse, as it does when i walk too much, a little bit of everything , often i think is the plan!

I cant keep off of ebay for gorgeous outfits for dd. can find some real bargins on there, i think i am addicted ( not good when all i have to do is rest all day!! ) have got four brand new oufits at a fraction of the cost, i also got an amazing wooden swing crib for 20 quid ( have bought new matteress) for next to my bed, thers so much stuff out there all waiting for me to buy it!!

iris66 · 18/10/2005 19:08

Jaysfirst - sorry I pushed off in the middle of a conversation!! - had to do food for DD then last minute panic over "the look" before dropping her off at her v important "event" (p* up down the pub to most of us! lol)
Stats thread is called Due Jan 06 stats thread I think. Basically we've all been putting our details on it so we don't have to keep reminding each other...name, age, when due, area you live & any other children etc.

Birthing balls are fab aren't they - though whether I use it for improving my fitness after giving birth is another matter!!

Lyra - regular bananas (& yoghurt) seem to have stopped my twitchy legs. Don't know whether it would work for cramps too (my logic is that 'cos we've got more blood now the salt/potassium/calcium balance could be skewed twitchy/crampy..they could be related?)

Talking of food I've been sooo good today. Not one morsel of chocolate passed my lips and I made lovely healthy chicken casserole for dinner.(((pats self on back and smiles smugly)) Think it's energy related though as when I'm overtired I only want crappy sugary/fatty food. I was rudely awoken at 5 this morning by him indoors practising kickboxing against my innards. he didn't let up until after 7 so it wasn't worth going back to bed so I had a kip at lunchtime. What a difference a kip makes!! Will be doing that more often from now on
Anyone else got a really active one? (am starting to feel almost guilty about it as I keep seeing threads about inactivity!!)

OP posts:
iris66 · 18/10/2005 21:35

OMG think I've just had my first braxton hick!!!
was sitting on the sofa & bump went all tight & full feeling & I couldn't bend to get up (thought it was wind TBH) ended up having to roll onto all fours on the floor & do a bit of a slow arse wiggle (much to DH's amusement) for 5 minutes 'til it went away. Never had any with DD so not sure if it actually was one. Does it sound like it was to anyone?

OP posts:
iris66 · 18/10/2005 21:39

Am now getting thorough beating from the baby - so vengeful for one so young!! lol

OP posts:
Jaysfirst · 18/10/2005 21:54

awww iris, i cant tell you if it was a hick or not, as i havent had anything quite ike that, had the tightening feeling but nothing like you described, oooo how exciting. My babe 's movments come in fits and starts, no regular pattern to her movements at all, but its def getting stronger and harder... thing that trubbling me is this bloody heartburn,,,, had it since lunch time and have eaten half a packet of rennies already

iris66 · 18/10/2005 22:01

heartburn is the pits - but then again SPD, morning sickness, constipation, piles, stretch marks, achey boobs.... take your pick!! oh the joys of pregnancy lol
time for my beddybyes now I think (it was the wiggling that did it!!)night night

OP posts:
lyra41 · 19/10/2005 12:09

Hiya

Just a quickie from work. Yes Iris, definitely a Braxton Hicks, to be avoided if poss!! I'm not keen, although I suppose the more toned it is when labour comes, the quicker and more effecient it will be.

I have ordered my first washable nappies! 8 nappies and 4 wraps, all second hand and for £40.

sweetkitty · 19/10/2005 12:11

Well had my booking in appt this morning with very nice (if mad) midwife, peanut is fine she is lying head down but on my right (as I thought) hence pain in right hip. She's given me the number for a Maternity physio as well.

Talked to her about a homebirth she wasn't overly keen on the idea but think thats more to do with her being on call 24 hours than actual risk. The other midwife in the team said I was an ideal candidate though, the only thing is that if I go into labour at before 39 weeks I have to go into hospital as it's their policy not to provide the on call service before that. With DD I delivered at 37+5 but it's unlikely I will be that early again.

Am going to invest in a birthing ball (well cheap equivalent from argos). I'm sure DD will love it if I don't.

Rachey1969 · 19/10/2005 15:59

Hi all, nice to see loads of chat! I work from home too but am restricted by work laptop to less than one hour of 'non-work' surfing between 8am and 6pm. It would seem that sex, drugs and violence are fine but the blooming marvellous site gets blocked for being lingerie..!

Spent yesterday in Gloucester and today in Cardiff going through 13 yr olds' drug records, v depressing reading. Knackered as usual and builders are still here covering everything with render.. I cannot bear the thought of the final clear up (the weekend hopefully).

My heartburn is shocking and braxton hicks kicking in everytime I get off the sofa it seems! Iris my boy is very active too (just like ds2) and like his dad (a former disney lifeguard/FA coach/tennis coach - still not sure how he tolerates a coach potato lke me!)

Lyra that ball sounds great - how do you pump it up? with a bicycle pump?

Jaysfirst - I am due Jan 4th but have a three time history of going way overdue so haven't bothered with the dec thread - I have more chance of co-ordinating with everyone here.

sweetkitty · 20/10/2005 11:26

morning all

Just back from a little jaunt down the street, having a bit of a clothes crisis as my winter jumpers/cardis are just not stretching over the bump but I hate the idea of buying more clothes just for a few months (as obviously I will have my figure back as soon as bubs is born ) have seen a few tops in Primark that don't look too bad but even I grudge buying them. Am going to stock up on loads of cheap pants from Primark/George though, great mumsnet tip from last time, buy loads of v cheap big comfy pants for before but especially after birth then throw them away.

Anyway sorry away on a waffle, was very sore last night with this sacro-iliac pain still I'm the magic 28 weeks today (don't know why but it always seems like a milestone to get to 28 weeks so only 12 to go (in theory).

Has anyone heard from horseshoe recently, bit worried about her?

loomer · 20/10/2005 12:58

Know what you mean about winter clothes Sweetkitty... I'm having exactly the same dilemma. Am currently planning on getting one warm jumper and one wooly wrap/poncho/cape type-thing to see me through the next six months. God knows where from, but I have been told by a sartorially enlightened friend that capes are very 'in' this winter, and therefore I'm hoping that they'll be in all the shops (and long enough to cover bump).

Got very stressed in office this morning with ridiculous project that is messily reaching a conclusion now (thank goodness), and had to remind myself to calm down and breathe. Was on the verge of pointing at beely and shouting "six month pregnant lady here - I don't need this stress!", but refrained.

Have reached the conclusion that my strange dragging feeling 'downstairs' is just ligaments stretching, and nothing as awful as SPD or sacro-iliac pain. Apart from that I am only contending with occassional heartburn and overheating.

Would be good to hear how Horseshoe is doing.

I was about to rush off the Argos for an exercise ball (what a bargain, even on Ebay they're around a tenner), but spoke to friend in cornwall last night who is posting me hers. I did have to remind her to deflate it first !

loomer · 20/10/2005 12:59

...that would me my belly of course, not my beely!

Rachey1969 · 20/10/2005 14:18

With my bust, a cape would make me look like I was wearing a tablecloth! I shall stick to my monsoon long cardi - not much is going to meet around the middle of my boobs, never mind my belly!

Not seen anything from Horseshoe - hope she's all right.

Rachey1969 · 20/10/2005 14:19

Definitely with you on the knickers Sweetkitty - value ones from Tesco are 2 for 80p I think! I hate disposable ones, they crinkle when you walk!

iris66 · 20/10/2005 16:01

Good tip Sweetkitty! - have loads of old "elastically challenged" knickers already though so will use their sad demise as an excuse to buy some nice pristine undies after the birth What is is with MWs attitude?? Mine's the same. You'd think I'd asked for the moon when I said I wanted a home birth

On the winter clothes front I am a sucker for long bum covering cardis & scarves so hopefully I shouldn't have to buy any woollies (just wear my nice, long, bump covering T-shirts underneath). I did wear a baggy jumper the other day but ended up looking ridiculous - I really do look like I've swallowed a beach ball, or that I'm wearing a comedy bump!! - almost wish I would splurge a bit elsewhere!! Have got to buy some flattish boots though as I'm starting to struggle with heels. Bad timing really as they're all full price at the mo.

Lyra - were the nappies the motherease ones you bid for the other day? - have they arrived yet? I still can't decide which ones to go for. How are your leg cramps?

Rachey - at least you have the explanation of "like father like son" for your active boy. My DH is more of a couch potato than a potatoey thing and I'm not that much better. Maybe he's just letting me know that my inherant laziness will soon be a thing of the past!

GeorginaP · 20/10/2005 17:00

Good grief, is any one else absolutely shattered this week? Just don't know where the time has gone. Can't beleive it's Thursday already.

Just wantd to check in with y'all and say hi.

Glad we're all having the same type of pg symptoms...anyone else taking Gaviscon so regularly it's actually making them retch now when they smell it?!?

Oh, and anyone got a really painful coccyx (tailbone)? Feel like someone has kicked me really hard at bottom of spine and I can't sit down properly, so have to hoover on one butt cheek or t'other!

Sorry, v boring conversation from me today. Only a n hour to go until DH gets home and he can give DD a bath whilst I collapse on sofa...

Oh, Sainsbury's do really good jumpers, tops t-shirts at totally reasonable prices. Have got a couple of really lovely ones to see me thru (hopefully) next couple of months.

Have also hit magic 28 weeks, stitch still intact (I think), so should stop being so grumpy and moaning about pg symtpoms!!!!

Spooks tonight.....

lyra41 · 20/10/2005 17:44

Hi folks

Many reasons to be cheerful today. I just finished work for half term (apart from a couple of reports to write, about 2 hrs worth). Pat, my cleaner's been today, so am briefly living in a clean house. Just had a lovely sunny walk around the park with dd and the dog. going to see a pram tomorrow, a big bouncy silver cross number, hope it's good.

Iris, I lost out on the nappies actually, she decided to sell them to someone local rather than post them to me. I think I'll get tots bots if I can, they seem to be well rated on mumsnet. And thanks for the tip re. bananas and yoghurt - it seemed to work for me last night and the night before.

The birth ball was a disappointment - there was no stopper and it was too small anyway. I'm 5' 8" and I'll have to shop round for a bigger one. So that will have to go back, ho hum.

Rachey are your kids off school next week? Are you going away anywhere? We're just having days out here and there, specifically to Blackpool Sandcastle, a sort of huge indoor pool with lots of slides and stuff. I was hoping they might have a beauty spa too, but I haven't looked into it yet. Not been before, but I think we'll all enjoy it.

DD's desperate to get on the computer, so I'll sign off for now.

Keep well and rested all. xx

Tickle · 20/10/2005 18:49

Hi guys - just checking in - nice to see so much chatter

Tired as anything cos of spending 7 days on the trot on my feet, with my 5yr old's birthday in the middle! That went well, and the cafe is going well altho quieter than we had hoped (takes a while for people to know we're there, even on an island this small).

But nearly everyone who visits is very complimentary, so that's encouraging. Very seasonal business, so will be shutting for the winter at the end of this weekend, cos it's the end of danish half term.

Thankfully not getting indigestion with this one, and all your stories of SPD & things make me feel lucky just to have dodgy veins

Almost 30 wks now, so going for a scan next week, focusing on bub's kidneys, as there was a bit too much fluid in there at 20 wks. It'll be nice to see him again, and DH should be able to get along to this one, so it'll be his first view of this baby DD1, 6, has suggested the name Sam, and has started drawing him when she draws a pic of the family

Better go & get them into bed,

have a good Friday!
