New thread here for those final few weeks (fingers crossed!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Jeez bubba i'm exhausted just reading what you've done! Grin

And the rice krispie cakes sound sooooo yummy - every time i read this thread I keep thining - oooh that sounds nice!

Love the thought of your carseats with all those crumbs in them rock!

How Angry about Argos pushing up the price pootle. Every time I think of argos it makes me laugh. my american friend moved to London last summer and kept going on about this brill shop. Anyhow i asked her what it was called and she said "Ah - go" - dropped the "s" off and made it sound sooooo posh! Oh how I laughed Grin

Well - i'm stuffed after eclair and roast dinner. And i've spent last half hour helping my mum - she managed to sell individually (bizarrely) 14 toy-patterns on ebay that she cut from her knitting magazines - and got £38 for them in total! MAD. One went for £7.50. my mum was gob-smacked. I mean, they were okay patterns, but nothing fancy... still ebay rocks in my opinion as it keeps her happy - and it's so much fun watching the bids go up. Still... £7.50 for a pattern - it was a Christmas Turkey!

And poor you with your back bubba - def need a spa day when baby is here and settled.

Talking if which - all your already mums... assuming everything normal - roughly when do you feel like taking baby out and going shopping or something? Afterr a week?? A few days?? Confused

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 17:25

Don't think I've ever heard of anyone passing out from contractions so you'll probably be ok Grin

I'm completely fed-up today and seriously want baby out. I think I'm uncomfortable then read how the rest of you are and think I'm probably not that bad really. However, that makes me think that baby is nowhere near ready as surely I have to suffer a bit first?

DP phoned his mother this afternoon and there was some sort of conversation about me being induced on Thursday Hmm Suspect everyone thinks it is going to happen apart from me.

Actually, the hospital said they would contact the CMW to come Tuesday to do a sweep. Do you think the CMW will contact me beforehand or do you think she will just show up? Confused AND nobody has said what will happen Thursday which suits me tbh.

CupcakesHay · 23/01/2011 17:31

x-post with salt and gallic

salt feel the same about the contractions - and wondering - will i actually know? And then will i run around like a headless chicken panciking??? And then if it's middle of night, will i be calm and just sit in front room watching TV or will i wake up DH and scream "IT'S COMING"???? Grin

When were you due again gallic? And can't help on the sweep front - but surely they won't just turn up, gloves at the ready, expecting you to be waiting legs akimbo? Grin

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 17:36

Dunno. I never know what time the midwife is coming anyway. It's just "morning" at some point. I could call the office tomorrow afternoon and see if it will be morning or afternoon at least.

Was due on Tuesday so Thursday will be 9 days over.

Fuzzywood · 23/01/2011 17:41

You'll know when it's a contraction trust me! It just feels very different from any other twinges. I'm sure you won't pass out Salt don't worry. I just seemed to get into a parallel universe in labour, one of the things that kept me going was that the pain is a really positive thing, each contraction is one closer to meeting your little one. Plus DH kept reminding me that a few years ago when there were floods in Mozambique a lady gave birth whilst up a tree Grin

CupcakesHay · 23/01/2011 17:54

LOL @ giving birth in a tree Grin

Yeah - positive pain. That's what got me through my whole horrible ill period at Christmas - it's all worth it. i just think (in a sickly way) - it's taken me 5 years to get pregnant - and so much heartbreak - so a bit more pain - it'll be worth it for little baby boy!

RockLover · 23/01/2011 18:13

I must admit when in labour with DD I coped ok with the contractions (no screaming, writhing or begging for drugs). But because I was making such slow progress a lovely mw persuaded me to have an epidural, which turned out to be the right decision as I was in labour for what felt like centuries (a good 40 hours, but my contractions were very painful from around 2cm, that's not always the case for many women).

I ended up having an emcs because my cervix wouldn't budge past 9.5cm as DD was lying on it and it had swollen up :(. But I certainly didn't act like a banshee, so God knows why I'm worried about being an idiot this time round.

DP is being fabulous, since getting home from doing the shopping he has hoovered, washed up, made a pineapple upside down cake and is about to make a bolognaise for dinner. I am completely useless compared to him, God knows what he sees in me!! All I've managed to do is clean the bathroom and fold some washing...rubbish! Grin

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 23/01/2011 18:24

Don't worry, I did all of the above in the space of an hour, so not done very thoroughly. Also I have more appts tomorrow and DD1 has earache, so I'm going to have to get her to a doc's so won't have much time during the day, and Mondays is my tidying/cleaning day. I've made DH wash the kitchen floor as you need to scrub quite hard with 2 cats and 2 children!! :o

I was similar to rock in labour, I normally swear like a trooper but I was good as gold throughout labour. I do recall them telling me at one point that the head was out and all I now needed to do was push the body out and saying "I'm happy with just the head, I don't need the body too" !! :o Hmm :o

Crystylline · 23/01/2011 18:30

hi all!

hugs to the stressed out girls on here today. Perhaps the emotion overload is a sign of good things to come. least that's the way i look at it... Smile

i cave! i didn't do the car. Blush went out for a very long walk and pub lunch instead, which is infinitely better.

Have done a bunch of tidying and unpacked some rogue boxes from moving house weeks ago.

now utterly knackered and wishing I'd spent the day on the sofa like a sensible pregnant woman.

you all have lovely DPs, lucky ladies. i bet they're all getting excited too.

i'[m trying not to dread labour, or dwell on problems that i have no control over. normally i'm a total control freak, so giving my body up to something i can't control is going to be... interesting...

bubba love your comments - gas and air speaking perchance?

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 18:31

For some reason I'm not at all worried about the labour - probably in denial Grin

I've just washed up and DP is cooking dinner and doesn't need any help so I can sit on my bum some more. I've got him at home all next week which is annoying nice :)

travispickles · 23/01/2011 18:32

Can I just say that the CMW just turned up the other am and was half way dressed so had to anwer the door bare-arsed!I was then in embarrassing situation of offering a cuppa (?) which she declined, then saying we may as well go straight upstairs to do the sweep. The shame! They had said they would call to warn but didn't!!

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 18:39

hahaha I feel your pain. I'm usually awake around 8 so it's easy enough to put on pyjamas and potter around but I feel I can't shower until after she's been in case I don't hear her. Well, I wouldn't hear her while in shower. At least DP is around next week so he can listen out for the front door.

I think I might call the office on Monday afternoon and just check someone is coming because I'm not about to sit in all day just in case.

How many sweeps have you had travis? Surprised they've not worked yet. Confused

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 23/01/2011 18:40

So travis I'm thinking your conversation went along the lines of "Good morning lady I've never met before. Here's my arse. Now would you like a cuppa or would you just like to move straight to poking my fanjo?"

:o :o :o

Sorry crystyll to be insensitive to your situation prattling on about my DH. Sometimes having him here can make me feel like I'm already looking after 3 DCs though if that's any consolation!?!

Crystylline · 23/01/2011 18:41

if my MW offers me a sweep next week, should i have one?

(even though it makes me think of dick van dyke dancing on the rooftops of london in Mary Poppins) Grin

Crystylline · 23/01/2011 18:44

x post - none of you are being insensitve talking about DP/DHs. please don't think that.

i think it's brilliant they are so supportive. i've read some horrid comments on other threads about crap DPs that just don't get it or give a monkeys and you guys have some wonderful men supporting you. (that's what i meant, not that i was uncomfy with it)

FWIW - it's completely my choice to be on my own and whilst i'm obviously apprehensive, i'm also quite excited to be going on this amazing adventure.

x

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 18:52

You have a birth partner though? And yes, no harm doing the sweep and hopefully it will start things off for you. I get the impression that if your body isn't ready, it just won't work. Google Bishop's Score (someone posted it elsewhere)

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 23/01/2011 18:53

Cool, glad I wasn't offending (I have a habit of putting my size-zillion feet in my mouth).

Well, sweeps can clearly work, but as I'm about to go for #4 with this little bugger baby still content inside me, I'm probably not the best one to ask!! :o

Thing is, if your body is ready, it can help get things going. If it's not, it's just a bit more discomfort for the fun of it!! And not very dissimilar to Dick Van Dyke sticking a chimney sweep brush up your fandangle I would imagine! :o

Crystylline · 23/01/2011 19:00

ah Bishop's Score - is this what your MW bubba keeps counting to determine the goodness/naughtiness of your cervix?

and yes, I have lovely birth partner offers - i shall be very kind to them break their fingers and scream in their ears

i think i shall go with the sweep, but maybe leave Dear Old Dick out of it... that's what got me in trouble in the first place Grin Grin

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 23/01/2011 19:08

Yes crystyll, but the MW from Friday night said from her sweep she would have given it a score of 6 which is much better >>congratulates cervix proudly

Fuzzywood · 23/01/2011 19:15

I've got a sweep booked for Tues seemed to work last time but I was already 2cm dilated when it was done so may have gone into labour anyway.
Gas & air is good stuff but it does make you act a bit drunk, I don't remember but apparently when DD's head was visible the mw said something about lots if hair and I replied can't you just pull it out by it Hmm oh well least I didn't swear too much or do Darth Vader impressions with the mouthpiece like my friend did

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 23/01/2011 19:18

I am also 2cm dilated fuzzy - have been for a couple of weeks Hmm

pmsl about asking the baby to be pulled out by its hair!! :o :o :o

gallicgirl · 23/01/2011 19:48

Oh I am so going to do Darth Vader impressions Grin

Guess I'll find out Tuesday as that's the first time anyone will have looked at my fanjo.

Race you to the finish Fuzzy?

Fuzzywood · 23/01/2011 19:48

In my defence DD's head was out as far as her forehead for about an hour and got stuck cos she had her hand up by her head little begger Grin hope this one doesn't try the same Superman impression Hmm
