Sarahmumtobe I don't know anything about leptospirosis I'm afraid but hopefully it will all be fine. I'm getting ridiculously worried about things just now - last night I worried myself stupid about rabies. I simply hadn't realised that it was only eradicated in land based mammals and not in bats which can bite you and you may not even feel it Shock
When I was younger I used to go on riding holidays and we slept in an old bunkhouse building where every night the bats came out and flew about the place - often in the room we were sleeping in - how terrifying that we could theoretically have caught rabies from these bats. There aren't any bats in our house, but last night, I kept imagining that a family had moved into the roof during the night, flew down and bit me or the kids.
I know I was being ridiculous but it's a good illustration of irrational pregnancy fears.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 15/01/2011 08:40

Sarah - one of my dad's dogs had leptospirosis.

I had no idea it could be passed to humans. Fortunately he lives in Spain but I did go and visit him when I was 9 weeks pg with DS and we were fine.

Sadly the dog passed away a year later :(

KaraStarbuckThrace · 15/01/2011 08:42

Clarkiee - Angry that your consultant worried you needlessly, at least he had the sense to get the results check.

8rd - good that you had that chat and are preparing for the worst.

jasmine51 · 15/01/2011 11:21

Yay for Clarkiee, so pleased.

Window shopping day today. Think we have settled on a Baby Jogger Elite but going to Mothercare to play with others. Defo need a rugged buggy round here, no tarmac routes to useful places ie cafe, cake shop etc.

Feeling a bit muzzy today so off for alie down before the shopping begins.

Oh and TTL I bought a swimming costume. After last weeks bounce fest at aquanatal I needed something with room to wobble!

x

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 15/01/2011 12:27

Good to hear it's nnot bad news after all Clarkiee, what a week you're having!

8RD My son was born 9 months after DH and I switched from being friends to a couple Blush. Nice to know I'm not the only one Grin.

I really hope my son is having a growth spurt, because this week he has been constantly hungry (and annoyingly fussy to boot ) and has started napping again. He is driving me around the bend to be quite polite. Why am I doing this all again?

jbells · 15/01/2011 12:40

nomorechoc and 8rd me and DP will have been together 3years in april and DD will be 2 in april and i will be 8 months pg nice to see im also not the only one, most people think we are crazy (we prob are) Grin

swannny · 15/01/2011 13:58

clarkiee Good news :)

I am 19 weeks tomorrow and the movement is limited. My bump is very small, but there is something there... Is anyone else in the same boat? This is my first and I hear that the bump does take time as does the movement, but keen to hear what others are experiencing.

Also, I had an awful nights sleep. I had terrible heartburn, but my entire tummy hurt and I was very uncomfortable. Anyone else getting this?

Sorry for allt he Q's but I don't really have many people to talk to.

Leila xx

Sarahmumtobe · 15/01/2011 14:01

Thanks for your posts. The registrar didn't phone back so think I'll just phone GP on Monday. Silly thing is the other dog in their household is getting better treatment than I am since I have put her on prophylactic antibiotics because she is not vaccinated.

sassamax I'm with you on the bat rabies-some do carry lyssavirus, fortunately it is rare and should only be a threat if you are working with them.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend. I'm off for lunch and really fancy pizza!

knackered76 · 15/01/2011 14:56

Swanny - with my first I felt very little movement until quite late, probably around 23/4 weeks as I had an anterior placenta (one at the front) which cushioned everything. Your bump will also take time to develop as your muscles are lovely unstretched, but once it's there you could well be rather large (I was HUGE)Grin. I am also having heartburn as I know quite a few others on here are as well, try and work out what sets it off and then avoid them. For me is sweet things like biscuits and cakes and also warm dough things like scones, fresh bread. Have I been avoiding them, not a chance Grin!

Sarah Enjoy your fancy pizza!

8RD My dd had a 50 minute tantrum today (she's 5!!!!) and I did wonder what an earth I am going to do when this one arrives and I have 3 to contend with Confused!

misshoohaa · 15/01/2011 15:57

Hi swanny I'm the same as you, 19 weeks (ish - 4 different dates at the moment so not too sure exactly!) and I only have a wee bump - too be honest I just look a bit podgy!
I feel the bub occasionally but not that often and quite regularly I think 'was that it' afterwards? My midwife said with your first until about week 24 you can really not show much at all. Its funny as sometimes I'm keen to have a pronounced bump but then other times quite like that I haven't got too big yet.

The pain might be round ligament pain, I read somewhere that during week 19 this can increase. I get it quite often low down, especially if I've been laughing. its kind of like a cramping/pulling sensation - not overly pleasant!

Has anyone watched the business of being born documentary? I really want to see it as my friend recommended it. She had quite a difficult labour with number 1 - lots of intervention although not a C-section and was in labour for about 40 hours. Her second, which was over 9 pounds was only a 4 hour labour and gas and air only. She said the documentary really helped.

I'm also reading a book called Active Birth which another friend recoommended, again a pretty straight foward labour. I'm hoping I will be able to be nice and mobile and let gravity help me as much as possible!
Seems the birthing centre I'm booked into must be quite supportive of that approach as the rooms don't have beds!

Is anyone else thinking about their labour plan?

Moog72 · 15/01/2011 16:11

Swanny I could have written exactly what knackered did then re. first baby, movement, bump and anterior placenta. It is different this time and I look enormous for only 4 months pregnant!

My heartburn is ok so far, fingers crossed it stays that way because with DD I had it very badly...

jbells · 15/01/2011 19:35

ahhh im finfing it sooo hard to find a good suitable double pram, getting a single one was so much easier and a lot more enjoyable

8rubberduckies · 15/01/2011 19:48

Swanny I second knackered and moog, I hardly felt my ds kick at all until well after my 20 week scan, and am defintely showing earlier this time around. Also, to help with the heartburn, there is no shame in swigging Gaviscon straight from the bottle at all hours! I had a bottle by my bed, a bottle on my desk in work and a bottle in the living room. Remember you can get it prescribed by your GP too, hence for free Grin. I've been lucky this time around and am not suffering much. Yet.

DP is out tonight so I am tucked up on the sofa with some Shloer, a large mint aero, and Sky Plus. One Born Every Minute ladies, or Kiterunner? Smile

spg · 15/01/2011 20:16

Swanny, I am 19 weeks too and first..and i would say almost the same..Have felt (what I think is movement) about 3-4 times so far..And I am not showing explicitly either..

In fact, when I went for my flu-jab last week, the nurse who was administering the jab scanned me top-to-bottom and was like: Hmmm, we are giving it to only high-risk patients..As it turned out, the GP's surgery didn't have my records showing a pregnant status and she couldn't quite see it by scanning me up and down... I took out my records and she said..no no i believe what you are saying..blah blah blah.

Thanks for that info misshoohaa
That is reassuring to know.

Just catching up on posts..
On the topic of itchy scalp, I found the E45 shampoo very very useful (the one specifically for dry scalp); I couldn't find it in the (anti-dandruff) shampoos section in the Boots shop that I went to, but I asked a staff member who got it from another aisle.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone

motherofsnortpigs · 15/01/2011 22:05

Kiterunner every time 8rd

sarah my husband had suspected lepto..../Weil's disease/rats' piss disease as we call it in our house and was given antibiotics as a precaution. Can you not make a bit more of a fuss and get some ab's tomorrow? If you phone your Dr's surgery the answerphone should give you the out of hours number.

swanny I'm in Oxfordshire with jasmine and lisascat (although she may just be in West Berks...)

jasmine we have a turquoise people carrier that appears to have the wing mirror held on with gaffer tape - hard to miss!

knackered only a 50 min tantrum? Wink We had an all evening until bed time one about me not getting another dress out for DD2 to wear at dinner because she had wet herself at the table - why not just put your pyjamas on? Clearly one cannot possibly eat in one's pj's.........

DD1's 5th birthday party tomorrow - I must get some sleep!!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 15/01/2011 22:43

Oh spg think I'm going to take your advice and hunt down some E45 shampoo to try. The anti-dandruff shampoo I used seems to have dissappeared from the shops and my scalp itch is creeping back (non pg related so really really have to deal with it fast)

sasamaxx · 15/01/2011 23:04

motherofsnortpigs - DS has a 5th birthday party to go to tomorrow - fairly sure it's not your DD's though Wink He is 5 on Tuesday - can't believe it. Doing a party on Saturday for him - so not feeling up to all of the work - I'm hoping that next year we can get away with not doing one, if possible.

milliemuffin · 15/01/2011 23:23

Hi ladies, I was hoping to have a quick catch up but last time I looked you were on page 4 and it's far too late to read 8 pages!! Think I'll start tomorrow and see how far I get. Hope you're all well xx

AlmightyCitrus · 15/01/2011 23:53

Not too late to join in am I?

I've got 3 DS's already and #4 is due 27th June S/He is currently going by the nickname Surprise!!

Had an amnio yesterday (I'm 40) which was unpleasant, but probably not as bad as I was expecting. It took two attempts as baby moved just as they put the needle in first time!

It helped that the sonographer and nurse were lovely and DH held my hand all the way, and has been waiting on me hand and foot since.

So,..er... Hello Everyone!

gdmts1981 · 16/01/2011 01:39

Hi AlmightyCitrus

I have my usual insomnia (hence the odd times I post!) but am now feeling like a nap in the afternoons which seems to be my low energy point

I'm pleased today because I finally managed to get hubby to John Lewis for a proper pram demo and we've decided on the bugaboo bee - although the cost of all the accessories is shocking!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/01/2011 10:27

Welcome Citrus Smile

We have been looking at pushchairs, I am looking at the Mothercare Trenton deluxe, mainly because the car seat is compatible with the Graco car seat base - we had these and it made life so much easier as we have 2 cars, so we had a base in each car (sadly we freecycled them and our old travel system(it was a knackered 2nd hand one anyway) as I didn't think we would have another - but we changed our minds!).

LisasCat · 16/01/2011 11:02

Motherofsnortpigs no, def South Oxon, in fact, I can practically smell the Baby Warehouse from my doorstep!!! Who's up for a Wallingford coffee around the six month mark, to celebrate? In fact, sod it, I'll have a cheeky wine. I had a glass on Friday night.... felt really tipsy from just that one. Gotta love being a cheap date!

jasmine51 · 16/01/2011 12:09

Lisa and Mother If you find yourselves near the Riverside cafe at Benson, shout and I'll probably hear you from here. Alternatively Wallingford = good too, in fact I've walked there this morning along the towpath and I'm feeling so righteous I've just stuffed my face with choc chip digestives...not such a good idea

Am feeling good this morning - I freecycled furniture from the spare room yesterday so now the babies room can start to take shape. Funny moment was when a red suspender fell out of the drawer of the old bed. The bed was my dh before we got together and the suspender wasnt mine...ha ha, am winding him up nicely at the moment!
Now do I paint the room for a ds or do I keep it neutral so people cant tell what we're expecting?

Looking forward to aquanatal tmz too

Sarahmumtobe · 16/01/2011 12:22

Hi motherofsnortpigs. Was your DH showing signs of lepto or had he been in contact with someone with lepto? I have examined this dog a few times and took a blood sample from her Friday (we don't wear gloves for blood sampling) and I got non pregnant colleague to examine the dog's urine yesterday. I hadn't suspected lepto until after the blood sample results and because we so rarely see it didn't think about the risks until I got home and had a panic. On reflection hopefully the risk is extremely small-will definitely phone doctor to discuss tomorrow.
Very frustrated with lack of back up at work since only other SA vet is also pregnant and they have not replaced the vet that recently left! Rant over-so sorry to vent just get really tired.
Hope everyone is having a chilled out Sunday. Are there any 20 week scans coming up this week? I'm on the countdown- 9 days to go!

AlmightyCitrus · 16/01/2011 12:45

I've not really thought about buying anything yet!
I'm a terrible hoarder and I've still got all the baby clothes (which I had all good intentions of passing on to someone else) stored in a cupboard. My youngest is 8 so when I say hoarder I mean it! Grin

The crib and cot are in the cellar, cot just needs a new mattress.

Sadly the pram is long gone. It was a travel system, and it lasted through all 3 dc's. We had to glue one of the wheels back on but it kept going till youngest was old enough to walk everywhere. It was probably used everyday for about 6 years! There is only about 18 months between each of the first 3. Each time a new baby arrived the previous one had to walk. I was too tight poor to buy a double buggy!

Might look for something similar this time.
