Hi

Still whispering the good news but is there anyone else out there wishing they had made the most of the Stilton this Christmas? [Wink]

OP posts:

I think we all completely understand where you're coming from about reassurance. It's good to know we're notthe only ones with anxieties. Three days until my scan and I'm still convinced there'll either be nothing there or there'll be something wrong... Which is ridiculous considering how I'll I've been feeling the last few days. Threw up twice at work today before giving in and coming home. Was sick yesterday too. This is a turn for the worse because normally I'm just nauseous but actually being sick is a new one really.

Hope you're all doing well

Xmasevie · 22/02/2011 21:11

Hi you all sep ladies! Sorry for the sickness!!! I'm not sick at all. I do have heartburn though for the past couple of days which is killing my appetite and making eating crap. Postponed my scan from 24th to 7 march as I know am further behind. I'll be nearly 13 weeks by then.
Red Laura - sorry you were sick :-(
Anyone else getting heartburn? Any tips?
Still peeing 4 times a night and the tiredness is taking it's toll xx

ssmile · 22/02/2011 21:46

xmasevie Gaviscon is supposed to be good for heartburn, I know people who get it on perscription but check with midwife / GP to make sure it ok in preg.
I think preg fall into two camps the heartburn or nucleur wind and bloat!

I am in camp 2 eat, feel bloated, feel sick, eat, feel bloated, but I am fancying more food lately rather than forcing it down because I think I should I am actually thinking oh that be nice.

Serious lemon thing going on though. Keep fancying lemon sherbert dips sweets but cant find them in our local shops. So been having lemon in hot water, lemon squash, lemon cake, lemon merginue pie (took the merginue off as too sweet), now munching refreshers.... anyone else got the citrus thing happening does it mean anything...??

100years · 22/02/2011 22:46

Hiya ladies,

Sorry I have been really quiet in here. I have been really bad with sickness, lost 22 lbs with it, had a few weeks off work, but thankfully it seemed to ease last week, and I haven't been sick since last Tuesday. I've also been really anxious about the pregnancy, and was really worried until I had my scan.

It was earlier today, I thought I was 12 wks, I'm actually 12wks and 5 days, my EDD is now the 1st Sept!!! Shock Baby is a real wriggler, wouldn't stay still for the scan!! :)

Anyway, if anyone is being ill, it does get easier.

I'll be about a bit more now.

redlaura · 23/02/2011 06:58

Jesus 100years that's sounds like a dreadful ordeal!!! Glad to hear you are on the mend and great news about the wriggler!!!

I'm in the epic wind category. Put it this way we don't need an alarm click any more. Bang on 6.30 every morning my stomach goes ballistic... I'm expecting complaints from the neighbours soon!

yoshimigalloway · 23/02/2011 11:50

hello,

I'm having the same thing with regards to eating, I'm hungry so often but once i start eating i can't manage much at all. then about half an hour later i'm hungry again.

My trousers seem looser in the mornings and by the evening i'm bloated and gassy again. I haven't felt much this week apart from the above.

I was randomly sick yesterday, although i hadn't eaten, i think too much rushing around. I went straight on to eat after though!

sorry for those feeeling / being sick all the time

xx

MandaHugNKiss · 23/02/2011 16:04

Whoops, fallen off my threads...

Welcome titch Smile

meercat don't worry, I think we all understood your intention of 'not being alone' rather than misunderstanding you might have been saying 'Ha ha! You're sick too!' Grin These antenatal (and postnatal, once you et there!) threads are literally invaluable for reaching out to people who know exactly how you're feeling/what you're going through. Can't emphasise how amazing that is (especially compared to when The Interwebs didn't exist with my first two pregnancies and so it was a far more isolating experience). And I love the vibe here at mumsnet - the irreverance (even in the face of serious ishoos) tempered by an innate kindness.

God, listen to me gush - anyone would think I was pregnant and full of soppy pregnancy hormones!

xmas yay for the no sickness and boo to heartburn - although give me heartburn any day. I've had to suck a few rennies lately, and once things get worse later I'll be pulling out the big guns (ie, gaviscon double action Grin) Sometimes a glass of milk is enough to take the worst away (but I'm in no way able to drink a glass of milk yet - still feeling sicky). Some women swear by odd remedies such as a teaspoon full of mustard! I guess you get to the point of 'whatevver works' sometimes Wink

Have to say ssmile your 'actually eating because it sounds like it might be nice' rther than forcing it sounds familiar to me - long may it continue to improve until we're all enjoying our grub again! Hope you at least managed some birthday cake? Grin

100years poor thing! I lost two stone whilst pregnant the first time (the day after I gave birth I was 8stone 2pound compared to the 10 stone 2 pound I was when I fell!) and all because the grinding, horrific nausea didn't leave until I was about 7 months... Only threw up about 5 times but couldn't face putting food in my mouth. DD was a bouncing 7lb 13oz so no harm done there. It's definitely not fun, and definitely not the way most of us would choose to lose weight! I hope you're over it now and will continue on to a healthy weight gain. Yay for seeing the bean and being a little further on than you thought - every day really seems to count at both the beginning and the very end!

redlaura So that's that weird noise I keep hearing at 6.30am?! Grin

Hi yoshi bloating as the day goes on? Check. I have that too!

So, the meal on sunday was luverly. A couple of the other guests pretty muvh kidnapped DS2 so I had a little time where I wasn't constantly seeing to him and it was BLISS! My only complaint? The starters included pate, parma ham, cold prawns... all looked DELISH! Argh! Stupid can and can't rules! DFiL whispered to me 'can't you be naughty just once?' and I said 'Yeah, I could - it's all about risk, isn't it? But if anythin happened, if I was the unlucky one...I couldn't live with myself' So boring potato and leek (?) soup it was for me.

I made up for it by taking four desserts and only eating a few mouthfuls of each! Grin

feralgirl · 23/02/2011 18:54

xmas, Gaviscon didn't work for me at all with DS when I had crippling heartburn and I drank gallons of the stuff and had it free on prescription.

The only thing that worked was rennies (the fruit ones are nice, they taste like refreshers Grin); I ate so many I honestly thought I was going to give birth to a stick of chalk. My heartburn's not quite as bad this time around but it's getting steadily worse so I really sympathise. The worst thing was that it took several months to settle back down again after I had DS!

The nicest way to get rid of heartburn was told to me by NHS direct and it's to eat a spoonful of cold custard. Low fat custard doesn't work, it has to be full fat. Tesco Finest is bloody 'ansome iirc.

I am also hideously bloated come the evening. I probably need to cut down on the amount of bread I'm eating as that seems to make it even worse.

feralgirl · 23/02/2011 18:56

Manda, re The Rules, today I have eaten two peanut butter sandwiches and a load of cookie dough with raw egg in it. Last night I ate a big bag of dry roasted peanuts.

I am baaaaaaaaaad!

MandaHugNKiss · 23/02/2011 19:53

AH, but see feralgirl the starters were out on a table that didn't appear to be refridgerated. The prawns were sitting on ice, and it was being replenished fairly reularly, but even so...I think the conditions added to the risk of listeria/food poisoning.

AND! I don't think you're as bad as you'd like to think you are! Recommendation changed re: nuts some time back to '...blah blah only those who have nut allergy in the family should worry about eating nuts when pregnant blah, blah, blah.' so unless you have a direct link to nut allergy you're not doing anything against recommendation. I've hapily eating pb&j when the baby quit making me feel sick and actually asked for it Grin

With the egg, all our eggs in the uk come from hens that have been vaccinated against salmonella. So the risk of that is miniscule indeed...

Nice try. But no cigar! Grin Grin

ursigurke · 23/02/2011 20:48

xmasevie, I had heartburn in my first pregnancy. I found that a glass of cold milk is just as good as Gaviscon. I guess, you have to try everything and find what works best for you but you should also try to "avoid" getting it. Like eating often and little, not too late, not too heavy or salty.... And if possible sleep with your upper body higher than the legs. I found that surprisingly helpful. Also in my case it was worse when I slept on one side rather than on the other (I forgot which side was better and I do not know if that is normal or if I just happen to have a strange position of my stomach :) )

Minkyjj · 23/02/2011 21:09

How do I join this club?

MandaHugNKiss · 23/02/2011 21:23

Minkyjj

Well! First you need to pass a complicated initiation - we're not too tough on the hazing, promise - and once that's over you can post once a week...

Either that, or, y'know, just jump straight in and chat away! WHen in September are you due? Have you had a scan date through yet, or been to your booking appointment with your midwife?

Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome Smile

greedychops · 23/02/2011 21:35

Dropped of my threads list too so a bit of catching up to do.

I'm feeling a bit less sick, but now of course I'm worrying that that means something has happened and it'll be bad news at the scan. But not going to worry too much as wouldn't change things anyway.

Had mw today - low blood pressure which explains why I have been feeling dizzy etc. Also first time getting bloods taken when it hasn't flowed straight in.

Manda - I'm guessing you are going to get top prize on this thread for being able to keep up with everyone. I'm so rubbish at names in rl, and it's the same on here - by the time I post, I've forgotten what I was going to say to whom.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing about all those scans on 28th.

greedychops · 23/02/2011 21:39

Oh and was going to say about peanuts - avoided them in pg with ds1, but didn't have a history of nut allergies. Didn't avoid them with ds2 particularly. Ds1(3.6) is allergic to peanuts, eggs, dairy, shellfish and mussels, with severe eczema too. Ds2 (1.9)(touch wood) shows no signs of any skin conditions or allergies. Both bf till about 16 months. I don't think there is much you can do to avoid these things. Genetics and luck are the two biggest players imho.

Hi to Minkyjj and the other newcomers.

Minkyjj · 23/02/2011 21:41

Ooh - sounds tough Wink
Well, I think I am due on 21st September so think I am 10 weeks today. I have two kiddies already - girl (8.5) boy (5.5) and have been trying for number three for about 14 months. Have had two early miscarriages last year so still very nervous about this time around.
Have my first midwife appointment (at home) on 7th March and my scan on 17th March - dont know why they are so late as I have been chasing the midwifery team since 6 weeks as my GP said they may do an early scan to reasure me but no such luck. I will be just over 13 weeks by the scan so it does seem a little late. I am an older mum at nearly 39 and am a twin myself with a strong twin history on my mums side - husband is getting very nervous! Grin

redlaura · 23/02/2011 21:53

Don't forget the tar and feathers manda. Wink

welcome aboard the baby train minkyjj, don't forget your rennies!!! Grin

Minkyjj · 23/02/2011 22:06

To be honest I have such bad indigestion because of a medical complication that affects it that I am lucky enough to be perscribed a gastro-inhibitor which reduces the acid your stomach makes - unfortunately I am not allowed it until past the 18 week stage. If anyone is really struggling its worth speaking to your gp as its much more effective than the other stuff and my obs consultant said that it would be fine - I took it in both previous pregnancies.

MandaHugNKiss · 23/02/2011 22:10

greedy I'd love to claim it's my amazing memory, but I just cheat! I open mumsnet again in another tab then I can scroll through the posts at leisure Grin Uh, I mean, my memory is frickin' something else and I don't get pregnancy brain at all, no siree bob!

I have never looked too deeply into allergies having not been affected directly/close but I imagine that 'safe' exposure whilst in the womb, even to a degree whilst still breastfeeding, has got to be beneficial. I suspect for the most part, genetics are the issue, but with a little of environment thrown in? Eh, whadda I know? (answer: not much when it comes to this!)

minky I would be pushing for a scan a little earlier than that - not least because if you are wanting the NT it has to be done by 13+6. If you're just a couple of days out on your dates your window could b slamming shut if you attend at just over 13 weeks. Unless.. you're not worried about having the NT?

Minkyjj · 23/02/2011 22:15

Thanks for the advice Manda - to be honest I am worried but they dont seem to care. I definitely want the NT and have pointed this out but the midwife says that there will still be time and she also thinks I may have my dates wrong (I know I dont as I have a 23 day cycle) but she is insisting on working out my dates based on 28 days!

MandaHugNKiss · 24/02/2011 15:24

In that case minkyjj I should imagine you're definitely a few days further on than the midwife 'thinks' (just as I KNOW I'm five days less than they think as I was charting and know that I ovulated five days later than is considered 'average')

If the midwife won't take on board what you're saying, try calling the hospital where you'll have the scan direct. Explain to them you've just found your calendar whilst having a clear out and you made a mistake when you told the midwife your LMP - and take off the five extra days. Explain how these extra days are significant as NT has to be performed by 13+6 and you'll be almost that without taking this information into consideration (or even try this little fib with the midwife?)

Good luck, it's a shame we have to be a little creative in order for our own knowledge of ouw own bodies to be taken into account!

redlaura · 24/02/2011 20:56

Hi all. I have my scan tomorrow morning and I'm managing to convince myself that I'm the one woman in however many thousand who's going to get bad news. Crazy I know... :(

Misty9 · 24/02/2011 22:10

I have my scan tomorrow too redlaura - and we'll both see lovely bouncy babies, I just know it :)

So excited!!

redlaura · 24/02/2011 22:36

Thanks misty!

alibaba1980 · 25/02/2011 09:18

Hi All, I can't wait to hear about all your scan results, I've got to wait another 2 weeks for mine! I'll be 12 + 6 by then. Sorry if I'm being thick, but what's an NT? Confused
