the neat hand sewing bit would be my downfall. Hems and buttons are my limit!

In good news, I might finally have found a pregnancy yoga class that fits time and location for me. Spotted the poster in Sainsbury's and have just emailed - it starts tomorrow!

HalleLouja · 09/01/2011 17:37

If you live near London there is a place called the make lounge in islington which will teach you to sew a cushion in a few hours. There must be similar places across the country and they do lots of other creative stuff. I never thought I could do it but if I can anyone can.

Medee · 09/01/2011 18:06

huzzah! and there is space for me. Bendy back and stretchy pelvis here I come!

CurlyCasper · 09/01/2011 18:13

Thanks for the reminder rocket. We finally chose some wall stickers for Squeaker's room. There are some lovely sets that would match that mobile. I was drawn to them but HE said no.

Yet he wants a Banskie one in the hall...

rocketleaf · 09/01/2011 19:38

Good news meds hope its a good one. I am starting wednesday for sure and possibly tomorrow if I can get to the 4 pm one. If you can do hems you can prob make the birds, it requires quite small stitching, the trickiest bit is turning in the end but the sewing is quite easy. Wish I lived near london we could have an ESHcraft workshop :o

cas which did you go for in the end? I am now rethinking the space invaders as they don't really go with the mobile, but then I don't mind things a bit eclectic either (seriously the kids not going to give a hoot as long as its bright and interesting!!)

4 birdies down - 5ish to go!

Muser · 09/01/2011 21:48

I just wandered over to Conception and there is a most BESHly looking thread that turned out not to be BESH at all. But it pleases me to see there are more likeminded people out there.

Ariesgirl · 09/01/2011 22:27

How odd!

PrincessBoo · 09/01/2011 22:54

It's all to do with this elusive poster called Hester, Muse...

Muser · 09/01/2011 23:29

I approve of all babydust free threads. Long may they prosper.

PrincessBoo · 09/01/2011 23:32

Amen :)

I haz felt a kick! A proper no-nonsense boot Grin

Mr Loz & I went for a friend's birthday lunch yesterday. We came home feeling very fat & full, so went to bed early so we could lie down & read. My tummy was flip-flopping all over the place. I wasn't sure if it was processing lunch or Bug was doing his/her evening aerobics. I rested my hand on my tummy & was booted. Such an odd feeling. Mr Loz spent ages then with his hands on my belly, but Bug then was then so still
(s)he'd have won the Sleeping Lions World Championship Grin.

In other news I bought some nice maternity tops in H&M - quite reasonable too. I also bought some pants as I seem to be limited in comfy knickers at the moment - it drives me insane when the only fit halfway over tum then roll down. Anyhoo, wasn't really sure what style I'd find more comfortable, so bought some under bump & over bump to try. Dear God. The over bump ones should be called over-the-head - they are funking enormous! At least family Loz will be safe if we're in a plane disaster.

Re clothes & colours, I haven't really put too much thought into it. I know when I've bought clothes for friends' kiddies I tend to be attracted to loud primary colours. I feel we will end up with traditional pink / blue clothes, especially from my Nana's. Also if its a girl there will be a lot of pink from Mr Loz's family, as they seem to have a high boy count. MIL kindly bought quilt & cot bumpers, which are all pastel colours, suits me OK. Will probably pick up on the yellow in that, nice & bright & sunny.

AlpinePony · 10/01/2011 09:34

laurie How wonderful! Grin See, you genuinely are diffed - and moving up the list with gusto!

20 quid baby-gros? Arf. The nicest ones I've come across so far are the Next 3-for-a-tenner ones. They wash well, have feet, built-in gloves and the poppers are in sensible places. Beware poppers at the back, poppers down one leg only etc. None of this will make any sense until you and your beloved are trying to dress the baybee without breaking it. Which you will assume you are going to do. Bon chance!

I got an absolute bollock load of stuff from ebay - e.g., 3 pairs of troos for 25p - unless you really have a lot of money, it's really not worth spending loads. Obviously the sky is the limit as to what you can spend - a cursory glance at any footballer's wife can tell you that. It's terribly cliche, but they really do outgrow it all so quickly.

I got a secondhand Quinny travel-system for 125 euros - have ditched it already for a run around town buggy.

Tbh I blame websites like this, the shops and "middle class keeping up with the Jones'" pressure to buy all this superfluous shite.

PerfectDromedary · 10/01/2011 09:38

Feeling kicks is AWESOME. I genuinely spent ages watching my stomach move and giggling to myself when Berwhale first decided to boot me.

Kicks are so weird as the baby starts to run out of space, though - is like a giant sea monster heaving itself about inside me at the moment. And the kicks are much harder and more surprising.

I am knackered and counting down the days til mat leave. How're you doing, Muse?

Muser · 10/01/2011 09:54

I am hanging on by a thread Drom! Damn glad I
moved my leave forward a week and consoling myself this week with the thought that next week I have 2 days off. I was ok before Christmas but finding it hard to get back in the swing of things. Do you find it's all just too much effort?

laurielou · 10/01/2011 10:42

Muse I've found it much harder since Christmas & I'm only a mere 20 weeks! So I think you & Drom are perfectly justified in finding things an effort.

My only "concern" about evening kicks is that we're going to have a night owl baybee, when Mr Loz & I are definitely early nighters Grin. Mmmmm, will have to work out a strategy for that one.

PerfectDromedary · 10/01/2011 11:22

I haven't been able to get my brain back into the work game AT ALL. I am huge and tired and the commute is killing me. Still, it will all be over next Thursday and I am handing over my work to my cover person at the moment.

loz I find the kicking ramps up at night, but I think it might be because I'm often too busy/active to notice it as much during the day. Also, Berwhale objects to me lying on my right-hand side in bed, and makes his/her objections very, very clear...

Scorpette · 10/01/2011 11:45

Snap, Lozza! I felt my first proper kick on Saturday and since then, there's been less 'popcorn', more proper kicks Grin We IZ having TWINZZZ! Feels more like being nudged internally at the mo. Is so amazing that I didn't mind (that much) that The Lad decided to show off his tap-dancing skills at 4.30am this morning for over an hour. We can't feel them by putting a hand on the outside of my tum yet, but know that's the next exciting step, wheeeeeee! PS re: pants - I just buy supermarket cheapy multipacks of minis in upsettingly large sizes.

I'm already horrifically stretchmarked but I don't care because I bloody love having a bump - even though it's starting to get in my way (find it hard to reach the taps in the kitchen sink, midget that I am). The Mama Mio cream is incredibly luxurious and smells gorg but I don't think it's much use when, like me, your DNA demands that you look like a purple zebra at the merest suggestion of weight gain Confused Sad

BTW, am also jellus of Rocket's creative prowess. I wanna try that mobile too; used to sew well when I was a lass so hopefully I won't be too shit now? And Medee, creativity comes in all forms - I've seen pics of your home and have always thought how stylish and well-thought out it looks, which is v creative :)

Poobums for those struggling to get back into the work zone Sad Is good you're finishing so soon, Drom. I know your commute is v long and I don't know how you keep it up

Medee · 10/01/2011 12:34

Why thank you Scorps; I don?t necessarily see it that way, but I?ll take the compliment all the same.

I?ve struggled since the return to work too, and am counting down the commutes to go. Have also logged a request for an assessment for my desk today, so that might make things better.

Drom I can?t sleep on my right side either (I never did actually, always on my left, but could lie on my right with no issue) as my bump and my back are just too uncomfortable.

It?s lots of fun when the kicks can be felt from the outside, especially for the other half.

Ivegotmrbitey · 10/01/2011 13:20

Lovely kicking news loz and scorps, real baybees that kick and everything!

When my midwife did my home visit she spotted the FDHs many drums and said that if he played his bongos on my knees we would be able to feel the baby dance when he or she is big enough to feel! I think that is absolutely lovely now but when she first said "baby dancing" I was assailed by a mental image of the dancing baby from Ally McBeal and then of twee mumsnetters getting it on. It was very hard not to be sick right there!

Apparently drom and medee, sleeping on your left takes pressure off your internal organs when diffed? You probably already knew that but it's my learn something new for today so thought I would share it Smile

laurielou · 10/01/2011 13:33

I always sleep on my left, but I didn't know about taking the pressure off internal organs. How interesting........

Scorps I had to press my tummy fairly firmly to feel the kick, but it was definitely there. Really bizarre feeling the kick from the inside & then from the outside on my hand.

Drom Maybe you're right that I was just more aware of the kicking as I was lying quietly. I'm aware of some disco dancing shenanigans throughout the day, but yesterday was just a very firm "gerrof" boot Grin. I'm back to yoga tonight & was very much in can't be arsed mode. But now I'm excited that more quiet time may = more kicking*

  • Pliz, no-one remind me how fabulous I thought this kicking was when I'm huge & have a foot stuck in my ribs. Thanks.

In other news, isn't there a new series of One Born Every Minute starting this evening? Think that programme will have a very different meaning now I'm diffed.

Also a little Confused as mum & Mr Loz's auntie seem to be following Holly Willoughby's diffment as dates very close to mine. My mum was DESPERATE to know my flava, & said "Holly's having a little girl...." Last night "Holly" looked fabulously glam with her petite bump - I was hugely bloated following 3 course lunch, wearing over-stretched joggers with a bit of chocolate smeared down the front Blush

Medee · 10/01/2011 13:48

I had heard that, Bitey (BTW- watched KickAss at the weekend, so was amused by seeing the poster and knowing the derivation of your name!) so I knew left was preferable. I just didn?t expect it to be the only way I could sleep!

In other news, my copy of What To Expect The First Year arrived at the weekend ? haven?t got further than the contents pages yet!

owlbooty · 10/01/2011 13:54

Lozza and Scorps kicking sounds awesome, how v.v.exciting :)

Bitey you get home visit? Damnit. I have to go to plague-filled GP surgery this Thurs. Will probably catch ebola virus or similar whilst in waiting room. Joy.

Am super-impressed with those who have the patience for sewing things. My stuff always comes out wonky and crap.

Scorpette · 10/01/2011 14:01

Loz, Holly Willoughby can fuck the fuck off. She might be pretty in a bland way, but to call her as thick as mince is an insult to shredded meat products.

Am also looking forward to OBEM tonight, although watching wimminz in pain giving birth will be much more alarming than last time I watched it Wink

I sleep on my left, which is handy. But I do keep waking up on my back and find it hard to roll over and get out of bed. Me and TYF call it 'doing a Gregor' after Metamorphosis

Ivegotmrbitey · 10/01/2011 14:21

What horrid mental imagery scorpbeetle! I am not a nintellectual but heard the radio version t'other day, have you grown an extra pair of limbs? Have you tried bio-oil for them?

owlie it was a surprise and gave me two minutes flat to tidy the house which I think is worse for baybees than carrying heavy fruitcakes! She then gave me the bad news that the health in pregnancy grant is no more which I am sorely dissapointed about as wanted to buy a tankini and go to swimming for differs. Can you wear one of the bio-suits like in ET for midwife appt?

Grin at medee kick-ass is a great film isn't it?

milanomum · 10/01/2011 14:55

guffaws at biteme!
lozenge and scorps huzzah for the kicking!
Mrs FC and polly Huge congratulations!

It's taken me 3 days to catch up on the thread after being at the out-laws' for a week (in the nether-world where there is no internet) and then I had a melt-down this weekend and thought i had baby-failed again as symptoms just disappeared from one day to the next. After much pleading, or maybe it was the paying, I managed to get a private scan this afternoon with some old geezer experienced gyno who told me to stop worrying because there was definitely a baby in there Smile I have a feeling he's some pensioner that they let in once in a while so he doesn't feel useless. He couldn't work the computer at all but I luffs him anyway.

I love that website for making clothes and may have to dust off the sewing machine sometime soon.
