Oh what a horrible day!
DHW hope ds gets better soon.
Hi to all, glad to see your all ok, does anyone have a scan today, or are they tomorrow onwards? good luck if you do!
Have only time to quickly scan the thread, but I do like Issac!

Jackstini · 24/10/2005 11:41

Excited for you tonight Poppy - hope you get some good pics.
Zephyr - my ex-BIL has just called his son Issac. Also have friends with Joseph, Zak & Sam so some popular choices.
Feeling miserable to match the day today - fed up of printing stuff out ready for my conference and not looking forward to the 3 nights away or the driving. Nottingham to Brighton is a horrible journey - especially dreading Friday night return.
Get well soon wishes for RP & DHW's DS

desperatehousewife · 24/10/2005 11:45

are you coming to brighton for a conference?

poppyh · 24/10/2005 11:58

Thanks Jackstini.Having to drag Ds and Dd to scan as DH is working and going to meet him at hospital.I like the name Isaac actually.still finding picking girls names much easier though.

thell · 24/10/2005 12:15

Rosieposie- I'm adamant I want a home birth and intend to hire a water pool too. Did you have a hb with #1, or just #2 ? I haven't really discussed it with MW yet - will do it tomorrow at ante-natal check. Most stories I hear of HBs seem to be at least the second child, but I don't want to wait to be one of the many women who have a second birth at home because the first was so traumatic! I love the HB website - it makes me feel so much better prepared. Luckily my DH feels it must be my decision ultimately, even though the idea of it makes him nervous!

RosiePosie · 24/10/2005 13:18

thell, my first was a hospital birth, induction due to failure to progress, epidural. To be honest, even if I'd have tried for a homebirth the first time, I would have had to go in in the end, due to failure to progress (baby was back to back and I was in labour for 2 days). I think it's great that you are going for it though. Although about 40% of first time mums who try for a homebirth do end up transferring, that's 60% who don't! First time mothers often have long and drawn out labours, but often they don't. I mean, the worse case scenario for is that you stay at home for as long as you want and then transfer. The best scenario, of course, is that you have a lovely straightforward homebirth - sorry, I'm really waffling!

I hope your MW is supportive, but I'm sure you know from reading the homebirth site that even if she is not, as long as you're assertive and know your rights they can't actually refuse you anyway.

munz · 24/10/2005 13:36

think i've caught up - best I can anyhow! lol.

NG - congrats on the girls! - I didn't know CE was on loose women - talking of which do u have sky? - UKTV gold - Dr who week - 3 hours last night and 2 hours everynight this week of pure CE! hmmmm! DH is so glad he's on nights! lol. not keen on fox as a name - reminds me of mulder from x files! lol. it must be nice to have a friend expecting at the same time.

RP - i'm glad i'm not the only one slightly dissapointed not to be having a girl - don't get me wrong i'm really pleased it's a boy and as long as he's healthy but I was certain it was a little girl - we caled her pheobe and everyhting. I even thought waht she might look like - still there's alwyas next time. but for now i'll enjoy my little boy. should have guessed by the raunchyness of my dreams! . U go on as u want about births I think - best to get a good alround picture.

dhw - lol@u not leaving the hospital. I'm sure our boy only showed us cos the scan lady kept going over hte same bit - so he must have thought ffs leave me alone here! lol. ooh did ask as well about the whole vag birth after c section - I had an op when I was 11 see accross the same point as the c section area - the m/w said it was well knitted so a vag birth should be fine - I assume if your scar's well knitted sahould be fine. she also said the sharp pains were just where the scar tissue was streeching which was a relief.

cads - yep raining here to! lol - 3 weks solid - looks like flooding again tomorrow - so that's 3 weeks on the trot each tuesday without fail! not to worry. - would be better thou if I didn't work in a small valley! lol. what's the march of the penquins then? - hope all goes well for u tomorrow.

ct - glad all went well with your booking in scan.

jack - thankfully DH has gone off of joshua, still like harry (not the 8.13 part thou - ouch! lol) althou isaac's one i've thought of today - then we could call him zac.

main prob we have is DH likes traditional type names but I love the unusuals - so he's ur josephs, williams etc and i'm more your calebs, Kai's etc so not much agreeance going on - althou i'd prefer a name no one else has iycwim.

anchovies - glad to see u back again congrats on your little boy as well - best get and do those stats now! lol.

hope all u girls are doing OK.

thell · 24/10/2005 14:29

Munz - I'm 26, DH is 34, live SE London

RP - Thanks for the advice! I'm guessig that 'failure to progress' could be my biggest enemy, so I'm hoping that using water, remaining active, being more relaxed at home and avoiding an epidural and other interventions might give me a better chance of a natural birth.
Also a large element of keeping fingers crossed!!

RosiePosie · 24/10/2005 14:56

Definately much less likely to have intervention at home, lol! With hindsight, I certainly wouldn't let the fact it was my first baby put me off a homebirth, but I think you just need to accept that some first births are harder than subsequent ones and therefore the chances of you having to transfer in are higher - but that certainly doesn't mean that you will. You just need to keep an open mind and give it a go!

I've never had a waterbirth, although I have been thinking about it quite seriously this time around. However, with the two other children here, and the fact that I don't really like water that much, we've decided not to bother. I coped fine with a TENS and G&A last time - I loved both. I spent the first part of labour sat on a bean bag with my TENS on watching Saturday night tv - Pop Idol followed by Four Weddings and a Funeral, it was great. Then half way through the film, things started to hot up and we turned the TV off and I got stuck into the gas and air. Then she popped out a couple of hours later and within half an hour I was tucked up in my own bed

Frizbe · 24/10/2005 15:13

re the homebirths, just mentioned to dh about it again, and also mentioned as bad winter on way we might be snowed in, so he might have to run to our nearest ambulance station to get gas n air, he said couldn't I go to the fire station its nearer and you'd rather be delivered by hunky firemen wouldn't you and think I'd rather do something else with hunky firemen!!

munz · 24/10/2005 15:18

i'd love a HB but no way DH will let me have one - his logic is should anything go wrong then in the 5 mins to get to the hosp it could make all the differnce - would rather a home birth thou.

Frizbe · 24/10/2005 15:19

Oh jackstini, they have lots of nice restaurants in Brighton tho (agree the journey is pap which ever way you go......) You could try the Soul Food restaurant that was on Gordon Ramseys show a while back, she's doing a treat now apparently! go on go, and have something nice for me!

poppyh · 24/10/2005 15:32

Friz, I want to go to that restaurant.Supposed to be lovely.

Zephyrrywitchescat · 24/10/2005 15:43

Ooh I've been dreaming about going to that Soul Food place since I saw it. Yuuuuuuuum. One day I am going to get on the train just for that!!

poppyh · 24/10/2005 16:03

Ive been popping on this all day.The weather has kept us all in, (half term), and the time is dragging!!
Wish it was 6 so I could start making my way to hospital!

desperatehousewife · 24/10/2005 16:03

well, let's have a brighton meet up then - and get some soul food and compare bumps!!

Cadmum · 24/10/2005 18:16

My scan is tomorrow. I am starting to feel nervous. Silly, since there is nothing I can do to prevent there being something wrong... Just hoping that it all goes well. My appt is not until 1pm so that is already 6pm for you. Will post as soon I am back home.

Cadmum · 24/10/2005 18:23

Make sure to give me enough notice for the Brighton meet up... Oh, how I wish!

desperatehousewife · 24/10/2005 19:31

ah cadmum - don't worry (yeah right, like any of us are going to take that advice - it's worry from the second you get preg isn't it?!) stay as cool as you can. Sure everythign will be absolutely fine. Are you going to find out or not?

OP posts:
Frizbe · 24/10/2005 19:39

agree Cadmum do your best to chill out all will be fine, have you made anymore nice cakes today? I'm aiming to do one tomorrow!
Would love to do a Brighton meetup but sooo far (although I'm not that far from Jackstini!!)

newgirl · 24/10/2005 21:04

Rosieposie - that is very good advice about the home births - I am going to have a look on the website as soon as I have finished posting. I like Matthew - it would be my choice except it is my brothers name. Not many around here either which is amazing as I think it is such a good name.

I know one mum who had a first time home birth and she had a very successful time. I also know one who had one after an emergency c so anything is possible. I will not be looking at the strand about horrid c-sections - instead I will look at the lovely Fern Brittan who had 4 and is doing very well indeed.

munz - i don't have sky or even a box - just the basic 5 channels!! it was captain jack on loose women - very nice (gay - I didn't know that) - CE is probably too busy running marathons and hanging out with hollywood stars. If you've got a hospital 5 mins away that sounds fab - ours is 30 mins away yikes

Good luck cadmum - hope all will be fine - and then you can join in with the birth panic!!
