Munz - congratulations on your boy

DHW - Yes, it does make it seem a bit more real now. My family and DH all seem excited about me being pregnant. As neither my sisters nor DH's brother or sister have children (and it doesn't seem likely that any of them will have in the near future!) it is only the second grandchild for both sets of parents. Hopefully their enthusiasm will continue when I go back to work and need help with childcare again! Some of the girls at work are really excited too so thats nice.

Anyway, have a good weekend everybody.

desperatehousewife · 21/10/2005 19:55

aw munzie, congrats! How exciting. I can vouch for how exciting it is to have a boy first. They are such fun - hard work, but fun!

Wow, all getting very exciting for everyone.

Have a lovely weekend everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thell - thanks for the tip - I shall get some books out and stick on strategic post its!
Ouch Munz - made me cross my legs with all that umbrella talk! He is a silly bugger for doing what he did though. An ex b/f cheated on me once and gave me something - thankfully could easily be sorted but wow they have some painful treatments in those GU clincs. Never forgave him....

newgirl · 21/10/2005 22:21

hello everyone!

Had my 20 week scan today and all is well phew! I asked what the sex is and they were not sure - radiographer think its a girl as she couldn't see any dangly bits but her/his legs were squashed together so she is not 100%. Agggh I really wanted to know!! DH convinced shes a girl and if so she is POLLY. So I am pleased as I have lots of lovely clothes, coats and wellies so will save me a fortune. Also a bit gloomy as that means I won't have a boy ever. Not sure I could admit that to many people so its so nice to be able to do so here!

Congratulations to Munz!! glad all went well today - sorry I didn't respond to the drink/not drink question - I couldn't get on mumsnet at work this week for some reason. Still not seen Elizabeth!!! Though did see captain jack on loose women kissing CE woweee not sure I should admit to how appealing that was.

ps I did need a wee sample in case anyone was interested!! No idea what they checked it for though!!

Congrats RP, Friz, Thell and Dene on your announcements!!! How weird that we are half way through!! Just as well as I am enormous - fish and chips and toffee pudding seems to have done the trick!!.

Now all is well I have booked a holiday to Morocco!! I have also found out that one of my best friends who I thought never wanted kiddies is due in April so I am really pleased (for her and for ME!!!).

sorry to be dumb but what is SPD that a couple of you are worried about?

byeee

RosiePosie · 22/10/2005 07:50

Congratulations Newgirl! How frustrating for you not to know for sure - that would drive me mad, I think I might even consider a private scan to find out, lol. I think it's perfectly natural to be a little disappointed if you're dreaming of having a son/daughter and you get the other, but it is a bit of a taboo subject in real life isn't it? Now that the news of my new ds has sunk in a bit though, I have to say the slight disappointment has been overtaken by excitement!

SPD - symphisis pubis disfunction - where the pg hormones soften the ligaments and the pubic bone seperates too early ( it usually seperates slightly during labour to let the baby out, with SPD it does it too early).

Frizbe · 22/10/2005 09:43

Congrats on the scan being good newgirl! even tho baby wasn't fully co-operating!
Have a good weekend all

Zephyrrywitchescat · 22/10/2005 11:14

Hi all How are we all? I'm thoroughly bored already and it's only 11.00!! Will Young's new vid has just come on though...anyone seen it??! It's Will Young does Top Gun!! Shame he's gay! I've got to spend the whole day tidying the house I hate tidying sooooo much!
I got my scan date this morning - 9th Nov by which time I'll be 18 weeks by my dates. A dating scan at 18 weeks??!! Seems a bit backwards down here to me lol I hope they don't cancel out my 20 week one because it's so close - although if they can tell me the sex at the dating one and get some good pics I won't mind quite so much!!

Does that make me the last scan?

Frizbe · 22/10/2005 20:24

Hmmmm not sure Zephyr? sure Munz will know she's very good at keeping tabs on us all
Will Young? not my cuppa tea I'm afraid! thought that nice young man who Sharon was going to molest on X-Factor was quite nice tho! although not keen on his name! (and farr to young for me )

munz · 22/10/2005 22:31

ng - fab honney big congrats.

Friz - u make it sound like I police everyone! lol - tbh I don't know when all our scans are apart from they're over the next few weeks! rom's is next week as is cadmums! lol. sorry!

anyhow only quick - just checking on JM&B, mum and dad down - will be on form work as normal on monday! hope all is well with everyone.

RosiePosie · 23/10/2005 07:25

Oh yes, Frizbe - Shayne. . spelt with a Y ???? yum yum. He'll be in the final 3, no doubt! Was joking with dh that's what we should name our son

munz · 23/10/2005 09:22

well on our board we have, bradley (althou initals will be BPM) joseph (joey) and strong contenders are harry, joshua (for DH - don't like it myself) and Joel. got a pad by the comp to leave them on!

desperatehousewife · 23/10/2005 11:36

NG fantastic news! Oh my god, to not know completely though! How exciting. How fantastic that everything is well with you baby.

I am refusing to leave the hospital on weds until they are sure what I'm having - so desperate to know .!

OP posts:
Cadmum · 23/10/2005 13:00

DHW and Rom: I really wish that your scans were before mine because it might convince me to find out what we are having... Still think that I would prefer to keep guessing. I seem to remember that someone else on this thread wasn't going to find out either (by choice rather than hospital policy, I mean).

I saw March of the Penguins yesterday with our three. What an amazing story. Now I just need to think of something to do to keep them amused today; it is raining and raining here.

coppertop · 23/10/2005 13:38

Congratulations on the scans, everyone!

Jackstini - I think our scans are going to be on the same day again!

I'm pleased to say that my booking-in appointment at the hospital went really well. I'd been referred to the Consultant because my BP was high but now it seems to have dropped right down again - despite it being done while ds2 was sitting on my knee and screaming. Hopefully I won't need to see the Consultant again until I have my growth scan at 36 weeks. Yippeeee!

The only thing is that the policy about Anti-D has changed and I now need to have 2 injections during the pregnancy instead of just waiting until after the birth to find out the baby's blood-type is. Eeek!

Jackstini · 23/10/2005 13:47

Cadmum - it is me that is opting to have a surprise. Am hoping the need to know will help me through all the hard work of labour!
CT - how bizarre same day again! hope your goes well too
I had a lovely day yesterday - went for a nurturing mum-to-be massage, could have stayed on that beanbag for hours......mmmm Then some lunch and a bit of shopping with my sister & 2 friends - am so tired today now. Not looking forward to next week either - am away 4 nights for work .
One of my friends had her baby yesterday - 8lb 13oz (& Munz, she called him Harry! Also my dh's no. 1 name for a boy is Joshua too)

desperatehousewife · 23/10/2005 14:37

I know nobody can tell me what I should do. But i have been adament that i would go for an elective c-section with this baby (as had emergency section last time round). But like a blinding flash today at lunch time i decided i wanted to try for a 'normal' birth (i'll take all the pain relief going and some though!!). It's a bit of a revelation this thought. DH said dont' make your mind up 100% yet - see how preg progresses and see if everything is in order later on!

can't believe i'm having such a u-turn.

Just to warn you girls, will probably have several more u-turns between now and march!

just wanted to tell someone!

xx

hello everyone and thanks for your kind words! I am sort of tempted by another scan to find out the sex - not so keen on the £125 though!! I have started to call my bump Polly so it will be funny if she is then a boy!! I like Harry for a boy Munz but they are all good choices. I heard of a Fox yesterday (honestly)which is a bold choice.

dhw - crikey - what do you think made you change your mind? My dh and i had a row about this on friday - can you believe? I had emergency c section last time and I said that I was tempted by a home birth this time. He was not impressed. So I said it was up to me and that he was now not my birth partner!!!

We've calmed down now but I am still not sure what to do. One day I fancy an elective c-section the next a home birth. Other days I think 'i don't give a toss as long as it comes out'. If I have a home birth I need to tell the midwives in the next 4 weeks. I also have to have another scan at 36 weeks as my placenta is lying low. So I guess it is all up in the air still.

I will follow your decision making proccess with interest and compare notes!

Frizbe · 23/10/2005 20:35

Newgirl and DHW, dilemas eh! homebirth does sound good to me, but dh won't go for it, so back off to the hospital for me (providing we're not snowed in with all this talk of a bad winter!! reckon I (or dh) could make it to the ambulance station, which is about 4 streets walk away to get gas n air!!)
Cadmum, {{{Hugs}}} re the rain, apparently we're getting it for the rest of the week here too....Munz hope you'll be ok, as they're forecasting heavy flooding over your way

Munz have thought of some more boys names for you!
How's about
Noah (as in Wylie!)
Nathaniel (Nate for short)
Ethan
Sebastian

RosiePosie · 24/10/2005 07:42

I had a homebirth last time and it was great (painful, but great, lol). I'm all set to have a homebirth this time too. Frizbe, my dh was very uncertain of HB before he'd experienced one, but now he's all for it - it was a much nicer relaxed experience for him too. NG, they might tell you that you have to tell them you want a homebirth in the next four weeks, but in reality you can inform them right up until the last minute if that's what you want to do, although of course it makes it easier for them to plan cover if you give them plenty of notice ( it also gives them time to come up with excuses why you can't have one though, if they're so inclined). The website for info is www.homebirth.org.uk/ - this tells you everything you need to know! As you can tell, I'm a bit of a HB advocate. . but I promise I won't go on about it unless asked

anchovies · 24/10/2005 08:14

Hi everyone, long time no see again!

Glad everyone's scans are going well, congrats on your boy munz (and snap - we're having another boy too, am so excited!) Its funny cos everyone obviously expected us to want a girl so were expecting me to be disappointed but we are both over the moon. Love your name choices munz, lots of yours are on our list too (and fizbes additional list). Have (almost!) decided on Nolan though (know it's not to everyone's taste but I chose it based on the fact that it sounds like a dishy rugby player's name )

DHW - am still having the same dilemmas as you, consultant said she recommended a elective cs based on my history but it's totally up to me, can try for a natural birth if I want. Swing between the two on a daily basis!

Hope everyone is ok, lovely weather this morning isn't it!

poppyh · 24/10/2005 08:43

Anchovies, congrats on your boy.Ive got my scan at 7pm tonight, cant wait!
My midwive was trying to persuade me to have a VBac, but after 2 emergency c sections where they were both stuck I have decided to have an elective caesarian. But it depends on your circumstances.
Names, Still no boys names.DH likes Dylan I dont.I lkie Sebastian, he doesnt!!Never mind, still got 4 months to agree.

desperatehousewife · 24/10/2005 09:20

Anchovies - many many congrats on your boy!

Good luck for tonight poppy how exciting!

Newgirl - let's support each other in our swinging from extreme to extreme in terms of our delivery choices!

I read a horrid thread on MN yesterday about a second elective c-section and it really scared me, which is why i had a change of heart i think. DH says stay open minded as anything might happen. He's absolutely right. But the great thing is I'm open minded now to either, so in effect I have a choice (which I havne't allowed myself until now).

DS has first day of half term today and he's on sofa not well with duvet over him....poor boy! I'm stuck in today on my own with him (praying i don't catch whatever it is!) in the peeing rain. How grim!

OP posts:
Zephyrrywitchescat · 24/10/2005 09:43

Hi all

DHW if I see that thread i'm going to avoid it like the plague!! I try as hard as I can not to read anything bad about cs's until I've had it. Especially this time as for some reason I'm more nervous than the first two!! However, both cs's were wonderful so I'm not even considering a vbac (I'm such a wimp!! My Mum keeps telling me it's not right and I have to have at least one baby the proper way in agony!!)

I can't think of any names!! I still love all the boys ones I had for ds since he was only born last year - they are Joseph, Harvey, Cameron, Ethan, Zak (not sure which spelling though!) Isaac. DP is adamant it's Sam but I'm not as keen - I prefer Samuel but it's bound to get Sam and Sammy.

I have no girls names whatsoever!! I had none for dd either - she only ended up as Gabrielle as she was born on xmas day so the xmas angel was suggested and I agreed whilst half out of it!!

RosiePosie · 24/10/2005 10:22

Hi everyone

I'm stuck in too, half term, peeing rain - typical! Got things planned to do for the rest of the week though, so it's only today I have to get through on my own. Just waiting for the MW to arrive for my antenatal.

I have a horrible cold and a cough, which is not doing my pelvic floor any good at all. I've not had any problems with it previously, but I guess on baby no. 3 now, things are a bit slack down there and I'm leaking a bit when I cough

I don't like the birth bit at all, lol. I only prefer to do it at home because I hate hospitals so much, but I'm definately not one of these "childbirth is wonderful" people - it's very ouchy! I had such a good experience with the G&A last time though, that I know as long as I have plenty of that it will be okay . . well, it ran out briefly which was horrible, but that kind of confirmed how much I loved the stuff. I'm looking into buying in extra supplies for the afterpains.

I'm beginning to think of this baby as Matthew for some reason, I think that might be his name, because I'm getting used to calling him it, but dh hasn't agreed yet. . .
