Rosie - have you ever had a c-section followed by a vbac?

OP posts:
RosiePosie · 12/10/2005 10:09

No, I've never had a c-section dhw, why do you ask?

First birth was in hospital, syntonocin drip (or whatever it's called) due to failure to progress + epidural, second was at home with G&A.

desperatehousewife · 12/10/2005 10:11

Just started a thread trying to get experiences of vbac from people. Whilst been adament I want an elective c-section this time round, just started to think about what it would be like to have a 'natural' birth! Thought I would ask you guys. (and I knew you'd had more than one birth!)

Anyone...?!!?!

OP posts:
catj · 12/10/2005 10:34

My first was "natural". Well I was kept in overnight 1 week before due date cos of high BP & informed I going to be induced. Turned out I was already 2cm dilated so waters broken at 10am -dd1 born at 17.43 same day! Did have oxytocin drip & epidural but had worn off enough to know when to push. Dt's were elective c/s due to one being breech. Worst bit for me was the spinal, they had to keep putting more and more local anaesthetic cos I could feel the other needle going in! Planning for a vbac this time. Hoping it will be so quick that there won't be time to worry about it Don't want a c/s unless its essential.

RosiePosie · 12/10/2005 10:42

Most people who have a VBAC are pleased they did, it seems. Giving birth is a pretty scary prospect though, even if you've done it before! An epidural could be a good compromise, because if it works well, it's a virtually painless birth, but then having an epidural tends to slow things down, and if you're having a VBAC they usually put a time limit on how long they want you to labour for, before doing an emergancy CS. So it's a tricky one really. All I can say is that I've had the epidural/painless birth (well I had contractions before that, but the actual birth was painless) and I've had a natural birth with G&A and this time I'm opting for another homebirth with G&A. . . so it can't have been that bad, lol.

Frizbe · 12/10/2005 11:05

munz · 12/10/2005 13:41

lol@rom and projectile vomit - so u're ment to feel amazing? - who eva told u that! lol. I just feel tired all the time, tbh i'm not allowing myself to get too excited incase things go wrong. roll on next week I say - when's ur scan thru? agreed we're v impatient!

LL - yes it is odd we're having apts at the same time - when r u due again? (u're not me in disguise r u! lol)

friz - don't worry about it hon - we had torrental rain yesterday (milford Haven the worst hit area is about 5 miles from me, there was about 2 ft of rain at it's worst here on the farm - the boss grumbled etc but I don't care cos my car's ok, baby's safe as am I - I seriously thought i'd be one of those ppl stranded in their cars in the mist of it all. (v nearly rang up the farm to ask for the tractor to gome down and pull me thru - thankfully managed it thou) good luck with ur scan today - v v exciting.

dhw - no experienc i'm afraid - can u tlak to ur m/w about it?

Lizzylou · 12/10/2005 13:47

Munz, I am due 6th March (5th by scan dates)...
I think I'm too old to be you...by about (sob!) 10 years!
I read your thread about your boss...what a d*ck! Your priority is you and your baby, people should understand that! I keenly remember a bloke at work's comment to me...I was 8 mths pg, in my last week before going on mat leave and we had v bad snow, I was paranoid about the walk from the metrolink station to work and falling on ice etc, so I came in late, when it had melted a bit..he was saying I was being overcautious and when I said "I'm an expectant mother, I don't want to fall" he said "Well, I'm an expectant father" (his wife was 6mths pg...) What a plum, if he fell he wasn't going to lose his baby, was he??? I told him as much and he doesn't really speak to me much now, but thats no loss!

munz · 12/10/2005 13:52

well no not really- I tell u DH was foming when I told him - he basically said if he starts today to grab my stuff and walk out - but i've not seen him. DH was really on about how the baby comes first and he's not having me risk myself to get to work for the boss.

i'm due 3rd by the hospital dates - 11th by mine. (least it's earlier!) lol.

6th is a fab day to be born on - twin uncles were born on that day! i'm glad we're all having picses babies.

munz · 12/10/2005 13:53

(sure u're not that old r u!) lol - what is it as old as the man u feel! - so that means 22 in RL 41 in dream land!

Lizzylou · 12/10/2005 14:00

DS is a pisces and he is gorgeous, he has a lovely temperament (mostly!) so I am pleased!

Cadmum · 12/10/2005 14:44

My DD and my MIL are early March babies and they both scare me with their fury...

I am off to do more cleaning and tidying. I really hope to find the floor today.

munz · 12/10/2005 14:50

lol@ caddy - i'm mid march (13th and v airy fairy iycwim) also short tempered according to my mum and stubborn - can't see that! lol.

had loads of flutters today under bump. making me smile now. (getting quite strong as well - not kicks yet thou)

romilly · 12/10/2005 15:52

ohhhhhhhhhh i want flutters, not fair! anyone want to swap sickness for flutters?

well munzie - two of my best friends are 10th/11th March pisces girlies and they are both gorgeous, funny, intelligent, loyal pals so i am also pleased with the dates. it totally figures that you are a piscean
so munz is your boss being a twat too now?!

Lizzylou · 12/10/2005 15:57

OOH, are Pisceans stubborn, thought it was just my DS asserting his independence!
I am a fiery, short tempered and impatient Arian, so my little man is an angel compared to me!

Romilly, you will get your flutters any day now...sorry you are still feeling sick.

munz · 12/10/2005 15:59

he is rom - not seen him for 2 days thou - heard about it 2nd hand from the other girls! I like my fluttters - hopefully u's won't be long now.

yes we picses are stubborn apparently - i'm married to a scorpio thou so he keeps my feet on the ground and I take the string out of his tail! works well. lol.

Zephyrrywitchescat · 12/10/2005 16:10

Hellooo! Booking in tomorrow...YAY!!!!! lol. I'm starting to feel like I'm on the wrong thread now - you're all miles ahead!! Serves me right for gatecrashing the wrong month!

hopefully will be back here with some kind of dates tomorrow lol!!

Frizbe · 12/10/2005 16:21

Hi all, Well scan went well all is in the right place, including the placenta this time, hurrah! and we appear to be having another little girl (sorry Rom ) this will save a fortune on new clothes, as dd was Nov baby and this one Feb, so roughly same time of year for a lot of the clothes!
Piceans eh, I'm surrounded by bloomin water signs! dd's one too, Scorpio! they keep putting me out (Fire!) ho hum
Cadmum hope you found the floor?

desperatehousewife · 12/10/2005 16:52

aaaaargh! How exciting - the first one of us to know the sex. A girl Friz...how lovely. If mine turns out to be another boy, fancy doing a swap?!

Glad to hear everyone is ok.

Really sorry Rom you are still feeling yuckky. Poor you.

I've only had one or two flutters - what's going on?! Heard heartbeat last night, so know everything is ok. Maybe just a quiet, calm little baby (what a nice thought after my last little terror!)

OP posts:
RosiePosie · 12/10/2005 17:16

Great news, Frizbe . Am I next, next Tuesday?

My second was a much quieter, calmer foetus than my first DHW - turned out to be a girl! Much quieter and calmer out of the womb too. This ones a jumping bean like my first.

desperatehousewife · 12/10/2005 17:19

ooooh interesting RP - I'd be over the moon if this was a girl. Girls seem so lovely and gentle and quiet and able to entertain themselves. Unlike boys who hurl themselves around, jump on you, knock over toys all the time and shout a lot!!! Fingers crossed, although don't hold out much hope (cos of when I ovulated!)

OP posts:
RosiePosie · 12/10/2005 17:28

I know it wouldn't have mattered either way, but secretly ( actually not so secretly, lol ) I was THRILLED that my second was a girl, after having a boy. I really have no preference this time around, but I'm fairly certain this ones a boy - because of being active in the womb, and also because my symptoms in the early weeks were identical to when I had my ds. It's fascinating, this pg lark - each time you learn a little bit more! I tell you, am I going to be shocked if they tell me it's a girl next week - that'll be all my theories out of the window!
