I agree that it is a personal thing but I also want to make it clear that I certainly don?t judge people who would rather know. I always find it hard to make decisions when I am pregnant... It helps in my case that DH will not be here for the scan (coming home on a Tuesday is simply not an option) and he does NOT want to know. He just loves surprises!

munz · 07/10/2005 17:00

awwww rp was gonna find out and not tell the family - hopefully I'll manage it! lol.

Cadmum · 07/10/2005 17:08

I haven?t even told our families that I am pregnant so I shouldn?t have any trouble keeping the gender to myself.

Frizbe · 07/10/2005 17:47

Cadmum, I think its about time you told them I'm going to find out next week if I can, just for ease for me, I can sell all dd's clothes if its not a girl! have kept everything for the last two years! rather crowded round here....also ss thinks girl and dd thinks girl, so that'd solve a battle there too

poppyh · 07/10/2005 18:26

Frizbe,
Am doing exactly the same as you!!Need to know sex of baby so I know whether to keep girls clothes or not!Have a whole trunk full! Then if its a boy, I can sell them on Ebay and hopefully buy some new stuff!

romilly · 07/10/2005 20:02

i cant wait to find out (i have absolutely no self-control and am the sort of person who always unwraps presents as soon as i get them, even if its a week before christmas/birthday .... so there is no way i will be able to hold out for a surprise

i also think it will halve the name-vetoing problem that mr. rom and i are currently battling over

munz · 07/10/2005 20:05

lol@rom - ah that's me that - that's why DH hides my pressies in the attic cos I can't get in there! lol

we've stopped talking names thou. althou just see a baby today - 3 months old- she's soo tiny! her mum's a nice lady as well on my cul d sac so that's two new mums I know now

marne · 07/10/2005 20:50

think im having another girl but realy want a boy! Cant wait to find out.

Cadmum · 08/10/2005 04:15

Oh why? Oh why am I not in BED? I am so tired but I am glued to this chair. How lazy is that?

Just hung up the phone with DH and he had me in stitches with ridiculous suggestions for baby names. Shan?t share any at the moment until I am sure that they are really ubsurd and not at all likely to names of MN children.... (Too tired to decide at the moment).

My parents sold their house (for double what they paid for it 12 years ago) so I took advantage of their happy mood and told them that I am pregnant. Felt rather like I might have felt at 16 with the same news.... How little nearly 2 decades has changed our relationship! They were neither nasty nor overjoyed. I feel much better now that they know.

My hips are really sore and I vaguely remember feeling this when I was pg with DD. Anyone else feeling this or could it be related to falling down the stairs the other night?

I really must drag my bones to bed...

Frizbe · 08/10/2005 07:00

Might be cadmum hard to tell really, I'm already aching in various places and I'm just on no.2! so I imagine everything is giving for you! wondering how my gran got on, after giving birth to 8! my mum was the last so assuming she just dropped out?!
well girls must dash as have to get dd dressed and off to Mums so we can head north for this wedding, have a great weekend!

RosiePosie · 09/10/2005 08:01

Hurray! I'm 20 weeks today

poppyh · 09/10/2005 08:43

Im 19 weeks today!!

munz · 09/10/2005 09:49

YAY me to pop - (well am today cos my bump is getting bigger so to justify it I'm going with the hospitals due dates! lol) (sorry rom) althou if it's of any help i'm sure the baby won't arrive till the 11th at the earliest.

heard the heart last night - DH was really happy, baby waas hiding for him (he didn't hahve it turned up enough either!) lol. we've decided it's def a girl and keep saying her all the sime or she so if it's a boy it's gonna have a mega inferiority complex! lol.

spent the night watching the cartoons thingy on E4, how depressed were we - at only 23 most of my cartoons I watched are over 20 years old! lol. - we got really depressed with the do u remebrs - and what's even sadder is the music we used to bob to is now on radio 2 - DH was mortified when I told him that yazz had been on there! lol. (we were at school when that came out bobbing at the discos! lol)

newgirl · 09/10/2005 12:47

cadmum - were you really posting at 4 in the morning? are you knackered today? tell us your names - we might choose them!!

rom - I will find out sex if i can - i guess I can sell clothes if a boy and get ready but real reason is I CAN'T HELP MYSELF!!

Very happy - found old pair of stretchy cords I had forgotten about and are very comfy today. look almost normal too rather than big fat boofa.

PS watched that hes having a baby on sat night - what a load of sentimental twaddle but I did cry at the last dad who was very sweet and said to his wife during contractions 'is it like toothache?' bless him!

Cadmum · 09/10/2005 13:29

Newgirl: I live in Ottawa, Canada and it is 5 hours earlier here. Midnight was already really late for me!

RosieP: WOW on the 20 weeks. When is your scan?

Hello everyone else! It is Thanksgiving here today so we are off for a big ?feast? with friends this evening. Typically Canadian, they live 2 hours from here and that is considered close!

coppertop · 09/10/2005 13:49

Hellooo everyone. Just checking in to make sure everyone's okay. I'm glad that everything turned out okay in the end after those scares and that the scans have gone well.

The policy here is that you're not allowed to know what the baby's sex is. You also have to sign a form agreeing that if you ask then the sonographer has the right to stop the scan and ask you to leave. The bizarre thing is that this applies all the way up until the baby is born. With ds2 I had a scan on the labour ward to make sure he wasn't in a breech position and that it was okay to start the induction. The MW said he still wasn't allowed to say whether it was a boy or a girl.

LOL at the name-choosing. We start off with serious suggestions and then it descends into a competition to see who can find the silliest name.

RosiePosie · 09/10/2005 14:15

[shock} where are you, Coppertop?

desperatehousewife · 09/10/2005 16:36

hello all. cadmum your aches may well be the fall. Take it easy hon.

A quickie cadmum - I would LOVE to visit canada. Do you know anything about Yurt camping? I'm trying to gather as much information about yurts and yurt camping as i can and understand that it's big in Canada...? My dream is to open a yurt campsite in Britain and am doing research at the moment.

Rosie - cant' believe your'e 20 weeks - my god, half way through -that is seriously exciting!! When's your scan?

I'm 18 weeks today and gagging to find out what I'm having. Dreamt 2 nights ago i had the baby, and it was a 5 hour labour and frankly an absolute doddle. The baby slipped out without even a twinge and was a lovely little girl!! Imagine this means that the birth will be a nightmare and that it will be a boy!!

I held a 10 week old baby this week and it felt so unnatural - coulnd't remember what you do with babies. Amazing how quickly you forget! Was nice though when I got used to his floppy head!

Hi DHW, my scan isn't until the 18th, which is over a week away - over 21weeks seems awfully late to be having it, doesn't it?

I dreamt I had the scan last night and they told me it was a girl. . .but I don't believe it!

munz · 09/10/2005 17:40

rp - mines on the 21st, i'll be exactly 20 weeks by my dates but 21 by the hospitals. so mines like urs apparently thou here they do it between 20-24 weeks.

Cadmum · 09/10/2005 17:41

DHW: I do believe that Yurts have become quite popular in Canada's most Western province of British Columbia. I have never seen a Yurt campsite but I am familiar with Yurts from a recent exhibit at our Children's Museum (It was all about homes from around the world.)

I can't imagine the idea being very successful anywhere in Canada other than on the West Coast unless it is strictly a summer operation because the winters are quite extreme.

I would happily answer any questions you might have about Canada and if we are still living here I would welcome you to our home any day.

I'm about to 'hit the road'. Back late tomorrow or early Tuesday.

desperatehousewife · 09/10/2005 18:04

ah, thanks cadmum!

RP I was 20 weeks yesterday as well
Have scan on Wed, when's yours?
Poppy H congrats on 19 weeks!

Newgirl lol at toothache, bless, hardly eh!

DHW I'll keep my fingers x'd your dream comes true for you, it'd be nice eh!

Munz, your not that old hon!

Coppertop, yeah where are you based? seems a little over the top of the LHA to me!

Hi to everyone else, hope your all ok well here's my weekend summary!

Wedding was good, dh rather drunk, but bearable and got a nice lie in Sunday am, a whole 8hrs sleep with no small child waking me up, oh how lovely
So wondered round York window shopping, and had a nice cake at Bettys (posh tea shop if you don't know it) then drove home, promptly threw up on my parents drive when we got there, although it seemed to contain mainly breakfast, so can only assume something upset me? as was feeling queasy most of afternoon, but had put it down to my cold and the bump......bump still kicking ok, so hasn't harmed the little one...scan on Wed, roll on scan!

RosiePosie · 10/10/2005 13:04

I'm jealous, Frizbe - my scan's not until a week tommorrow. . .this weeks going to go soooo slowly!

munz · 10/10/2005 13:14

ooooh thats not fair!!!!! i've got to wait till friday week for mine.

been having lots of pains and aches over the past 2 days - noticed today the jucie drink i've been drinking yesterday/today (had two small glasses) actually went out of date on the 8th tastes fine - do u think it will be OK? had lots of flutters today (tight trousers again!) might need to invest in more maternity wear
