Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mummynumber2 · 06/01/2011 11:49

Hi everyone. I've been away for a while so just trying to catch up. It's good to hear all the good news and that there are so many boys! Are there any girls yet?

We're letting DSC's choose the colours for their baby brothers room and they've decided it should look like a sunny day so have gone for sky blue walls and bright yellow shelves! DP's going to start decorating it this weekend as there may not be another opportunity. DP's mum's going to be staying with us quite a lot over the next few months (she's sharing her time between here and DP's brother's/sister's house while a suitable care home is being found for her)

Will read properly and reply to indidviduals soon.

jasmine51 · 06/01/2011 11:50

8 thats worth knowing thanks. No sign of baggyness yet (leggings that is, not me). Know what you mean about their general stuff - defo a shop for enthusiastic grandparents or loaded parents!

crumbletastic · 06/01/2011 11:50

TTL Obviously you will worry but I had red bleeding at various points throughout my last pregnancy, and even had a night in hospital to keep an eye on it but all was fine. i was told wiping small amounts of blood is not an issue but only to worry if I wore a towel and had a blood mark bigger than a 50p which I never had. it was never even enough to mark my knickers. Are you having any pains?

I can't bring myself to go maternity clothes shopping, I hate shopping at the best of times and had a brief look at the George clothes whilst I wasz doing my shopping in Asda and was completely uninspired. I'm hoping other shops have a better choice when i can be bothered to look.

neenewps · 06/01/2011 12:00

Jasmine i will have a look for some online as the M&P shop here doesn't stock maternity wear. My friend gave me a few items of clothing all from M&P and they are great. Have seen her through 2 pregnancies and now mine!

Defo agree that M&P is expensive. The baby clothes are insanely expensive.

mummy the babies room sounds lovely :)

Update on our flat situ is that the landlord is giving us notice so we are going to have to move out by the end of March. My DH is hoping to negotiate with them that we give less notice incase we find a suitable place earlier. We are hoping they will go for this as according to the agent this place will probably be sold within a week of going on the market???!!!
It's all a bit of a PITA tbh but there we are. We were going to have to move out eventually but we were hoping to do it a bit later in the year! Really wish we could afford to buy but we have no deposit saved and so it's unlikely to happen anytime soon!

Mummynumber2 · 06/01/2011 12:03

TTL Please try not to panic (although I know that's easier said than done, I panicked every time I bled). Are you resting? Can you get some time in bed this afternooon? I would try to get a scan as soon as possible if I were you, just to put your mind at rest, although it's most likely that everything is fine with the baby, especially as you've recently had a positive
scan and have started feeling movement. I read recently that around 30% of women have experienced bleeding in a successful pregnancy. I was told no sex, baths or over excertion of any kind when I first had bleeding (but don't worry of you've already done any of those things, I was told by another consultant that there's no proof that any of these things help). I hope you're ok. Keep us updated.

8rubberduckies · 06/01/2011 12:23

Neenewps I feel your pain on the moving front. We are never going to be able to afford a deposit, so are at the mercy of private landlords forever . We moved in together when I was 6 months pregnant with ds1, and moved after a year as we decided we really needed a garden, and the landlord was planning on moving back from Dubai within the next year anyway. We found the perfect house, and were assured by our landlady that it would be a long-term let, but then she said she wanted the house back after a year as it is in the catchment area for a good school and she can sell it for loads!

We now have a lovely house, have ds1's name down for the local (OFSTED rated as Excellent) school, and are down on the waiting list for an allotment around the corner, so we are really hoping this one sticks. Luckily, the landlord moved to NZ 3 years ago with his family and is not making any noises about moving back, so we have got our fingers crossed!

Good luck with the househunting Smile.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 06/01/2011 12:30

So we're about ready for a new thread (am guessing before I get back this afternoon, have to go house hunting in a minute - blurgh). Anyone got suggestions for a new thread name? New year, new trimeseter new name type of thing?

And what the heck can I have for lunch, considering I seem to be having a bad reaction to the bread I bought.

8rubberduckies · 06/01/2011 12:34

Due in June Part 6 - Will anything ever shut us up? Grin Wink

neenewps · 06/01/2011 12:41

8RD Sounds just like us. We just want to move somewhere and stay in it long term!! Sadly the rights for us tenants in the UK are nowhere near as good as on the continent :(

We have seen somewhere on the internet so have called up to view it. It's in a seaside village which will be great and only 20 minutes over to Edinburgh. Could be perfect. We will see. Just wish Landlords also didn't dump all their unwanted furniture into their rental accommodation!! We have a room STACKED with furniture in this place.. all of which is in really poor shoddy condition. Whinge over :)

New thread is in order... I can't think of any genius name for the thread so will go too with Due in June part 6 :o

8rubberduckies · 06/01/2011 12:50

Is the "will anything ever shut us up?" add-on a bit harsh? Maybe "Jue in June Part 6 - will we ever stop wittering?" Grin

takethatlady · 06/01/2011 12:59

Thank you so much ladies - especially crumbletastic and mummynumber2 - it helps so much to hear that.

TMI ALERT: It's enough to mark my knickers but has been since the beginning (I noticed brown blood stains in them on NYE - 3-4 hours before they hadn't been there) but it's maybe 4-5 5p-sized stains a day (on a towel now, obviously), and little bits when I wipe but only the first time I wipe each time I go to the loo, after which it'll be clear or non-existent. SO sorry for the details Blush

Anyway, there's been almost nothing since this morning - nothing on the towel, and very little when I wipe, so fingers crossed it was just a moment.

I called the midwife a couple of days ago and she said to go straight to the assessment unit if it goes red or heavy. It's definitely not heavy and it was only red on the tissue twice (I'd say 50p size though). So I'm just keeping an eye on it at the moment. But thanks SO much for the stats and personal experiences, - helps keep it in context.

Like the new thread name ideas nmcb - sorry you're off house-hunting. I love house hunting, though. I look on Rightmove all the time at houses I can't buy. Weird obsession. And good luck with yours 8rd and neenewps. If it makes you feel any better about renting, we bought a house on 31st August 2007 with a 100% mortgage, and now we're 30k in negative equity and need to move and can't without renting ours out (for £500 a month less than the mortgage costs) and renting near my work. If we don't get amazing tenants we're screwed ... so buying can be a bad thing as well as a good thing!

Liking the sling talk but confused by it as I haven't started looking at them yet. Have decided on a Maclaren Techno XLR pushchair and car seat as they're reduced on Tesco/Mothercare websites and we've got vouchers for both, and they've got good reviews. Just need to find out if they'll fit in our stupid bloody Nissan Micra Confused

takethatlady · 06/01/2011 13:01

PS 8rd, I prefer the harsh version!

jasmine51 · 06/01/2011 13:07

My suggestion from my walrus perspective...'Junes are bumping out all over'

sasamaxx · 06/01/2011 13:23

Jasmine (I think) - re phil and teds. I bought one when expecting no 2. It's great to push etc but when 2 are in it, with the baby in the extra seat at the back, neither seat can recline much - only a tiny bit. That kind of annoyed me. As a single pushchair, it's great though as the seat reclines really far and is really tall.

Re baby bjorns - I have nothing against them at all - in fact, they introduced me to slings in the first place and I used them lots with DS. I wouldn't use one now as I don't like the way the baby dangles in them by its crotch (sling people call them 'crotch-danglers' Wink)but as I said, I did use them in the past and they are very easy to use.

3 of my local mum friends have had babies in the last 2 weeks - I am so jealous that I have another 5 months to go - it seems like forever.

jasmine51 · 06/01/2011 13:54

Ta sasamaxx - not planning dc#2 so not an issue..will go and play with one and see how it all works. Gosh they are expensive though!

spg · 06/01/2011 14:01

Hello e'one,

Happy new year to all (hope it isn't oo tlate to be wishing ..)

Came across this: 50 reasons to be glad that you're pregnant
www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/50reasonstobeglad/

On the topic of weight gain, apparently, the pre-preg weight is also to be taken into account to work out the optimal weight that should be gained...So, looks like its not one-rule for e'one..I didn't know this before.

www.babycentre.co.uk/tools/weightgain/

Am so glad someone brought up the topic of "oh, i am enjoying my pregnancy" ..Hearing it always made me to feel as if I am the odd one...Though I didn't have drastic nausea, I had severe fatigue and also an mc in July gave that extra anxiety. But, all that apart, I am still kind of not so into it...May be it will happen eventually..At some point, I was wondering if it was down to age, I am 34 and this is the first one..and so, I was wondering if I am too old to get excited actually by the pregnancy and if all that is said in general about pregnancy making you to feel great applies to younger women..It was really good to read views from e'one on this topic,..and I told myself that its all very subjective.

TTL, I hope you are doing fine and feel more reassured.

Jasmine I love your thread suggestion Grin I'd love to suggest something, but my brain has drawn a blank. It wants to say something like Juney Beans but then turns to toddler style gibberish.

House hunting was meh. Looked at a flat that was a no before I even got up the stairs. I've seen the perfect place across town but it's out of our rather limited price range (and across town, away from where DH has his clients and DS his playgroup) I hate this!!!

Sorry won't go about my house hunting woes to much. It's just it's the one thing in life that stops me being contentedly upduff. Still life with out a bit of drama just wouldn't be normal for DH and I! Grin

takethatlady · 06/01/2011 15:37

That's a shame nmcb :( I'm sure you'll find something great ... you've got a few months to go.

Thanks spg, everything seems to have calmed down, and I took the day off (naughty I know) and have basically slept on the sofa on and off all day (in between MNing and googling stuff I shouldn't google. Actually, the googling has revealed that only 1/200 pregnancies miscarry at this stage, and that when it does happen it's most often caused by a trauma or a catastrophe, a virus, or an abnormality with the mother. As far as I know none of these affect me, so feeling as reassured as possible.)

jasmine51 · 06/01/2011 15:44

Good to hear from you TTL have been worrying about you. Take it very easy...no jumping around to TT cds!

Has anyone been told by their hosp that they are unlikely to get a 20 wk scan? I am in Oxford and the JR have a problem. I was told by the MW this afternoon that she has put in an urgent request and phoned them, even spoken to the manager and has been told that they simply dont have enough resources to cope with the demand so first come, first served. Despite my request being put in a couple of months ago apparently I am not even appearing on their reserve lists. She didnt know what to say and 'will come back to me' but she leaves today, ironically to be retrained as a sonographer at the JR, so I dont suppose I will hear anything. If they think I can pay for another private scan they are mistaken...has anyone else got this problem? If they are experiencing some kind of baby boom in Oxford, what the hell is going to happen in June when all the 20 weekers are going to produce...makes me really really nervous about level of care.

neenewps · 06/01/2011 16:05

I meant to put part 6 in there too - damn and blast. Sorry ladies. Shall we create another one???

moomin156 · 06/01/2011 16:05

jasmine they struggled to fit me in for my 20 week scan as well, i am west midlands......at present i am not even at the hospital where i will give birth as they are chocker.....so am in Worcestershire trust for scans and consultant appointment as i live on the border, and even then they offered me a 24week scan but because of my downs risk from nuchal and we declined amnio at that point and said we'd wait for anomoly scan and soft markers we have been squeezed in......i know others had lots of problems with 12 week scans as well

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 06/01/2011 16:05

That's the thing TTL our relationship with our landlord deteriorated recently so we want out of here ASAP (like 6 months ago) I don't talk about it on here much, because it's a small world and I don't want to out my RL self, encase someone involved is lurking around. I'm here because I'm upduffed and happy about it.

Pleased to see google has reassured you for a change by the way Grin

Jasmine that sounds terrible that they can't keep up with all the scans in your area! I felt slightly put out having my scan moved back a week. Not getting one is terrible!
