Oh and congratulations misshoohaa we also collectively earn over 47k (before the maternity leave starts) but I thought you didn't get the tax credit if one of you earns over 47k not both of you. Please share when you find the answers x

bananarama05 · 29/12/2010 22:32

clarkiee I'm strangely looking foward to NYE. Booked a night away for just me and DP when we first found out about the pg.

Got a table booked at Jamie Olivers restaurant Fifteen (late sitting so no rush as don't have to sit down til 9pm) and a lush looking hotel booked about 5 minutes away to stagger back to when I'm falling asleep at 12.05pm! Figured its one of the last weekends away we'd get together so why not push the boat out a little...just wish I could get away with wearing Uggs, dressing up is NOT appealing at the moment! :)

What's everyone else got planned?

Merlion · 30/12/2010 02:46

Mummyno2 yes your guess is correct - have been out here for 4 years yesterday Shock I can't believe where the time has gone. So DS was born here and this one will be too. I'm with you on the loose bowel movements.

mishoohaa or should that be mrshoohaa Grin many many congratulations. Re your tax question you might want to try posting it on the employment section as I think there are some people who are experts.

jingle DS is 28 months so pretty close in age to your dd santa and I too think chocolate might be the culprit at this time of year. He is still asking for his advent calendar in the morning and has told me every day that it's Christmas Day today Grin. I think he is hoping for more presents.

Louey that's lovely about the twins and suggested names. We've sort of told DS but mainly because he persists in jumping on my stomach so we're trying to get him to be gentle so now he strokes my tummy and says hello to the baby. We asked him whether he wanted a brother or sister and he says he wants a brother who is a girl Hmm.

Banana very Envy of your NYE plans it sounds great. We are going out for dinner too then have booked a trip on the river to the harbour to see the fireworks. This starts at 11pm so will help that the evening won't be too boozy.

Mummynumber2 · 30/12/2010 07:55

Merlion I spent a lot of time in Singapore during childhood/teenage years and took dp back for a holiday a few years ago. I absolutely love it there but it has changed quite a lot over the last 15 years or so. Are you going to Clarke quay at new year?

jasmine51 · 30/12/2010 10:15

Oh god ladies...I think I've blasted my pelvic floor into oblivion. Have a stinking streaming cold, and between the sneezing, nose blowing and choking I'm scared to get dressed in anything other than a bin bag. Going out for lunch today with friends...do you think they'd notice if I grab my crotch every time I blow my nose...oh the glamour of it all!

clarkiee re your rabbit poos...yup, been there. I think it was a combination of being dehydrated and iron tablets (which made them black). The effort of moving the poo along is what breaks it up into bits. Can recommend the baked bean method but not if in polite company

Becoming obsessed with whether to have DC2 after this one...for goodness sake...what is going on in my head...havent even got 1 yet!

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 10:15

Not suprised your looking forward to New Year banana its sounds fab Envy (and a very good idea- wish I'd had a similar idea). Merlion your plans sound good too- I love fireworks Envy!

I'm going to a house party its not a big party there will be about 10 of my good friends. Unfortunatley in laws live near my friends house and they are having a BIG party which DH is very keen to visit. He was thinking after midnight but I'll want to be in bed by 1 so might leave the friends party for an hour or so pop round and get it out the way.

I've got my flu jab today Shock not a fan of injections (who is) but glad I'm having it.

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 10:17

ha ha jasmine rabbit poo!! I've really gone off baked beans but I'm defo going to try and drink more, don't think I've been drinking enough x

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 10:19

I keep thinking about DC3 jasmine we're going to have a ready made family at two but always wanted a daughter (not that DC3 would necessarily be a girl) and I love being pregnant and don't want it to be my only pregnancy Confused

misshoohaa · 30/12/2010 13:24

Hi everyone,
Well! i just spend a large portion of this morning looking at reusable nappies, and am still in my dressing gown!
It's a lot of information to digest. I've told a few people I'm thinking of using reusable (along with disposable too) and the reactions are a bit funny. I appreciate the washing and drying must be a pain but with the money saving and environmental aspect I want to at least give it a go!
I had a look and people suggested buying a few different types first rather than a massive bulk buy - so that i did.

Got a couple of shaped nappies - diddy diapers, one with a fastener and one where you have to use the clip thing, some wraps to go with them and one pocket nappy which comes with an insert. I'm thoroughly confused but hoping it will make sense - any experts out there who can advise then feel free!
I see you need inserts with pocket nappies and some people make them themselves - any advice on that?

Is anyone else thinking cloth?

misshoohaa · 30/12/2010 13:25

must get dressed now!

bananarama05 · 30/12/2010 15:15

misshoohaa I've pondered cloth nappys before but not really looked into it. I'm a bit worried since washing the puppys blanket after she had an accident the other week may have been the final straw for our washing machine... so I'm not really sure how nappies would work either.

jasmine I have a beautiful mental image now, think michael jackson having a sneezing fit in a nice restaurant Grin

Clarkiee I had my flu jab this morning too...all seeming ok at the moment. My arm hasn't dropped off at least :)

jinglebellssantasmells · 30/12/2010 17:32

hi clarkiee If you intend to go back after Easter but give birth during the hols, your mat leave starts the day you have the babies. You have to work a day of the summer term or your mat leave will start at the end of the spring term. School will prob have to get in cover from the beginning of term so you should have a pretty easy week in the summer :)

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 18:54

thanks motherofsnort bit of a bummer if I have to go back in the Summer term. If I can get away with a day then that would be okay (providing I've not given birth). Bloody Easter why are you so late? Got a new boss in January- not a good time for me to try and impress a new boss! All I want to do is ask her when I can leave Grin.

Glad I've had the jab- good to hear that others have had it or have booked in to have it.

jasmine51 · 30/12/2010 19:04

clarkiee can I ask you a question that I have been curious about for some time?...you said that you love being pregnant, and I hear several women saying the same. Do you mean physically or mentally or both perhaps? The reason I ask is, now I am experiencing pg for the first time I cant say it a barrel of laughs and I am beginning to wonder if I am weird, or just too old for this game. Obviously the end result will be worth it, and normally I can put a positive spin on anything, but up to now its just been 4 months of flu like symptoms and just basically feeling dreadful. Katie Price often says she loves being pg...do some women glow all the way through and genuinely flourish or are they just talking about the excitement of it and glossing over the physical hell?
I hope you dont mind me asking - all my friends with kids are my age and have had similar experiences to me so I'm curious

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 19:05

Anybody finding that there sense of smell is being wierd. We're having fish for tea and it stinks the smell is turning my stomach (no way I can wash up- sorry DH Grin)

Clarkiee · 30/12/2010 19:09

Physically and mentally I'd say jasmine. It might sound silly but it just feels so special to know that there are little people growing inside my tummy- it's amazing!
Don't get me wrong I do find it a pain at times! I was lucky because I didn't have any morning sickness at all and other than tiredness I've felt fine. I'm certain I will totally go off being pregnant when I can't fit through the door Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/12/2010 19:22

Jasmine - I'm using Tena Ladies, as when I retch violently or have violent coughing fits I can't keep it in, even after I have just been to the loo - it squirts out Blush

Mishoohaa - my ds is in cloth nappies, has been since he was about 8 weeks old. I use a mixture of Bumgenius BTP pocket nappies, Lollipop BTP hybrids, and Lollipop fleece nappies with Tots Bots, Motherease wraps. I have also used Bambino Mio prefolds as well, and fleece pockets at night.

I have 2 nappy buckets - one for poo nappy one for wet nappies. I never soak, just put a few drops of tea tree oil in the bucket. I use laundry nets in the buckets to make it easier to transfer the nappies in the machine.

I have probably overspent on nappies - about £500, however if I had used disposables, I would have spent more like £1200! I love my cloth nappies, I don't find the washing too much of a problem. I use a mixture of bamboo & fleece - I don't have a tumble dryer. Fleece & microfibre take no time at all to dry bamboo take ages but are mega-absorbent.

Barbie - any joy with the water?

jinglebellssantasmells · 30/12/2010 19:24

jasmine- i am finding i am enjoying pg more 2nd time round, its not as exciting as the first time but i think i am appreciating the whole miracle alot more and all the feeling etc as this will prob be the last time i am pg, the first time altho it was a very easy pg, i just cudnt wait to get my pre-preg body back (never did) this time i think i am a bit more relaxed about it and not so bothered about my body. i really missed the feeling of being pg afta DD was born and didnt ever think id feel like that, i never do get that pg glow tho lol

jasmine51 · 30/12/2010 19:26

Hmmm, I think the physical side is clouding any sense of wonder for me. I'm going to talk this over with the MW because I am desperate to 'enjoy the pg' as everyone tells me I should but I just feel so bloody rough the whole time.

re the fish - I just had fish for the first time in months....because I have this streaming cold and cant smell it!

jinglebellssantasmells · 30/12/2010 19:32

i wudnt worry, i really didnt enjoy pg first time round at all, i was always grumpy, tired and crying lol, me and DP had never argued badly untill i got pg with DD and then it was non stop bickering with me an emotional wreck lol, i hated the way i was feeling and was a mismog, have u read the thread on the active page about woman not enjoying there pg?

santamaxx · 30/12/2010 19:34

misshoohaa I've cloth nappied both of mine (although didn't start with DS until he was about 1.5).
Whatever you do, don't bulk buy one type to start with as this is a sure fire way to ensure that they don't suit your baby.

The most bomb proof method, I think, is a cotton fitted nappy (personal taste which kind but I like motherease sandys) underneath motherease air flow wrap. Most people agree that these are the best wraps on the market and if you're not sure which way you want to o with nappies, this is a really good way to start off.

Pocket nappies are a bit of a hit or a miss. There are loads of brands of all shapes and sizes - really pretty ones (much prettier than a 2 part system) but with that comes a compromise in reliability. If you find a brand that is a perfect fit, you're onto a winner as they dry really really fast (especially ones with microfibre insert) and you can get one for every occasion. It's VERY easy to get carried away buying pockets - especially pretty velvety ones and things.

Anyway, I would really recommend starting off using a 2 part (making sure the outer is motherease airflow) until you are used to the cloth nappy routines. After a while, you can experiment with pretty pocket nappies and then sell off your old stuff if you want to. Depending on finance, you could get some pockets to try out too at the start, but they might put you off as it's so easy to use one which doesn't really suit your baby and the leaks really put you off.

Real nappies are great! Grin

santamaxx · 30/12/2010 19:36

ETA a lot of people think that babies in cloth nappies potty train earlier. DD was in cloth almost from the start and she potty trained at 19mths Wink
