santa that's great info thanks so much. You're right we were given lactulose (which did nothing) and now on movicol. The nurses did say we needed an evacuation dose, but fortunately since I last typed she has passed a huge soft poo (sorry tmi for some!). She wasn't distressed, though was trying to hold it in. She is visibly happier, so hopefully things are heading in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing your story, your poor DS it sounds like it was a terrible time for you all. I'm a bit worried about the stretched colon, as she has got up to 5 days a few times before now (and they have been so huge an adult would struggle to pass them).

santamaxx · 21/12/2010 22:49

No probs GV hope it gets sorted out nice and quickly for you. Don't worry about the stretched colon - nice soft stools for a while will sort that out. Just make sure they don't try to take her off movicol before she's ready - ideally she should be right down to half a sachet a day with no with-holding before she comes off completely - with a really gradual reduction in dose.

Let me know how you get on. The good thing is they sound as though they know what they're doing so that's half the battle Smile

motherofsnortpigs · 22/12/2010 08:27

GV Did you reward your DD? I ask because when my DD1 started witholding I gave her a prize every time she pooed. Don't know if it was the right thing to do, but it seemed to work. Amazingly my DC's are yet to work out I'm a hospital/medic phobe. Lucky it was DD1 who was satisfied with one chocolate button. DD2 would have stung me for a sparkly dress every time, I'm sure.

Merlion · 22/12/2010 09:14

Santa & GV that is all very interesting as DS is another one with persistent constipation - usually 3 ish days but he is on lactulose. I really want to potty train him too as for peeing I know he'd be fine and probably quite easy but until we get the constipation sorted I don't even want to attempt it in case it exacerbates that problem.

I had 16 week scan yesterday and we were hoping to find out gender but unfortunately the baby had other ideas - basically back turned and legs crossed! So will have to wait till 20 week scan which is booked for 18 Jan. Nevermind everything else looking fine apparently baby has very long legs (must get that from DH).

Sarahmumtobe · 22/12/2010 09:36

Hi everyone, just catching up on the last four pages! Congratulations on all the good scan news. I think I'm going to go and read the forum about the flu jab- I wasn't going to have it but I think I need to think about it a bit more first-next midwife appt Jan 3rd so will go equipt with questions then.

Welcome to newbies-it is lovely to see such a long list and so exciting to think of the DC that will be added alongside those names in June!
No movement felt here yet-15 weeks and 1 day. Following on from the names -we also like Lucas, but think my favourite combination for a boy is Ewan James. I still like Emilia for a girl.
Re: buggies-from reading reviews/speaking to friends we decided on the bugaboo cameleon aseasy to steer and can be used from birth. It's compatible with maxi cosi car seats and sell on at a good price on eBay. I found a good deal on an ex-display model and picked it up Monday. Possibly a but premature but put it down to nesting!

Thats strange sarahmumtobe I was in bed this morning and was thinking that I like the name Ewan! I hope somebody buys me a baby names book. I know its all online but quite fancy going through a book with a highlighter Grin

moomin156 · 22/12/2010 10:55

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/12/2010 11:59

Morning - another pity me post. DS is feeling much better, sadly I am feeling much worse today, head pounding and coughing my guts up.
And DH reckons he won't get back until 7pm :(

Mummynumber2 · 22/12/2010 12:12

Morning everyone.

Your poor dd goodvibrations. I hope it all gets sorted out soon.

I asked the mw i saw today about a flu jab today as it hasn't been mentioned and her response was something along the lines of 'I have no idea about flu jabs in pregnancy, I don't think you need it. If you did your dr would have written to you' I was a bit Shock as I was under the impression that there was a campaign to get a higher uptake of it this year. The mw I saw at my last appt seemed really good but this one said a couple of things that made me slightly concerned! Is anyone else finding the standard of mw's a bit varied?

Mummynumber2 · 22/12/2010 12:15

You poor thing kara, is there someone who can either come and help you with ds or take him away for a while so you can get some rest? Hope you get better soon.

Moog72 · 22/12/2010 13:01

Hi Mummy my midwife knew nothing about the flu jab eitehr, I spoke to the doctor about it. And generally I am a little concerned about her. She just doesn't seem very bright. She made several mistakes when writing up my notes and I had to correct her and she told me she was squeamish about needles!! She is very young and seems very inexperienced and it worries me that she may be the midwife attending my home if I am lucky enough to be able to have a home birth... hmm.

Poor you kara - hope you feel better soon.

8rubberduckies · 22/12/2010 13:03

Whoah, just had a mammoth sesion trying to catch up with you all since I was last on here Friday. Congratulations on the scans, hello new people, and glad to hear everyone is doing well, and thinking about buggies and names and suchlike!

I have been pretty busy, had exams (and important sledging to do) all weekend, and it's Christmas if no-one has noticed Grin Grin. I am Father Christmas and Mary Christmas, and the elves, all rolled into one in my house it feels like, so have been rushed off my feet. Hasn't been helped by Tesco failing to deliver shopping on Monday due to a piddly inch of snow falling, and dp losing ds's glasses at the zoo last night Angry. So my best-laid plans of not going near Bristol's hellish mall (where ds's opticians is located), or a supermarket this week, have been put to waste.

Bump is coming along nicely; I have felt flutters a few times (I'm 14 weeks today), but I am worried as I don't feel as connected to her (oops freudian slip), as I did to ds in utero. Maybe this is just because I am so busy this time around, and ds is a demanding little man! I hope I start feeling more in tune with my pregnancy soon, sometimes I'm forgetting I'm pg, whilst it was all I could think about the first time around!

Sorry I can't reply to all of you individually, the thread has moved on so much since I last checked in, but moufflon, I sympathise with your itchiness. I am soooooo effing itchy, it's driving me nuts. I couldn't get to sleep last night I was itching so much; I just want to lie in a bathful of calamine lotion at the moment!

Whoever was worried about massage, I second the advice from moufflon. I am trained in a number of therapies, although I don't practise anymore, and they just want to be on the safe side because of their insurance, and also because some oils used in massage are not considered safe in pregnancy, as are some of the more intense / deep tissue massage techniques. I enjoyed massage and reflexology throughout my whole pregnancy (sadly, don't have the time or money this time Sad).

Clarkiee · 22/12/2010 13:19

Oh dear kara hope you start feeling better soon. Whats wrong? I had a cough, runny nose, lots of sneezing and a bad head. But I'm starting to feel a lot better now. I drank hot orange juice with two tablespoons of honey in it x3 a day. Cold compress on my head when I had a headache. Held my head over a pan of steaming water when my inner nose was unbearabaly swollen. Put my feet up and had lots of naps. Luckily I don't have any DC to look after which I'm sure makes it easier.

mummy can't believe your MW didnt know about flu jab- she mustn't even watch the news. I hope she makes it her business to find out, but I suspect she won't!

Hi 8rubberduck hope your exams went well. I'd normally be too busy to be writing on here so much but a combination of illness and bad weather means I've had a bit of time on my hands.

spg · 22/12/2010 13:26

Thanks all for your reassuring replies (to my last week's post).

Had the repeat scan y'day and the radiographer said e'thing is as it should be.

The last scan (which was supposed to be the 12 w one) was actually at 11w 6 days. And apparently, they don't change the EDD (09 June) calculated from that. Apparently, the only reason they asked me to come again was because they couldn't check the skull-brain formation last time (i don't know if it was because of the position or that I wasn't quite 12 weeks yet) and so they had asked for the repeat scan. And this time, the lady checked that and said it all looked fine.

Baby's measurements didn't quite tally with the last scan in terms of the growth but she said that the measurements carry significance only when done very early and thats why they do the dating scan early. She was very reassuring and repeated this last bit while giving the post-scan report, because the (presumably computer generated) report showed the measurements to be at the lower end of the spectrum.

Anyway, am greatly relieved as I actually gathered the courage and saw the scan with my own eyes. The legs were folded but did catch a glimpse of the arm movement and its all starting to feel more real now !!!

Sorry, this is such a me-me-me post.

8rubberduckies · 22/12/2010 13:42

Oh so glad everything went well spg and your mind has been set at rest Smile

motherofsnortpigs · 22/12/2010 14:07

moog if a mw you don't like turns up for your hb you can just send them away. The best plan would be to ask who is coming when you phone and if it is someone you don't want, tell them to send someone else. Sounds really stroppy, but you are perfectly entitled to. Tbh if you don't want them there, they probably don't want to be there either - so you're actually doing her a favour...

8rubberduckies · 22/12/2010 14:23

Reading about home birth plans is making me sad, I have got to go into hospital to have my bean. DS caught strep B from me during labour, so they want me to have intravenous antibiotics from when I go into labour proper Sad.

8rubberduckies · 22/12/2010 14:23

That should read "DS caughht strep B from me during his delivery" ...

OhLoueyTownofBethlehem · 22/12/2010 14:24

Hello - does anyone mind if I join in? I've been on the July thread because my original due date was 3rd July but had my 12 week scan yesterday and they've put me back to 29th June. I am almost certainly going to have a c-section which would mean it being born a bit earlier than that so I think I am firmly in June now Smile. I had a mc earlier in the year which was discovered at the 12wk scan so its been a rough few weeks to get to this point. This will be No 3 for me - have twin boys already. Am hoping that coping with one baby will be easier than coping with two!!

8rubberduckies · 22/12/2010 14:58

Welcome OhLouey!

Supersunny I'm not even allowed in the midwife-led unit, as having a drip is classed as medical intervention, so have to be on hospital ward proper, and have been told I probably won't even be allowed a go in the birthing pool! It was the same with ds1 as i was induced, so I would have loved a more natural experience this time.

OhLoueyTownofBethlehem · 22/12/2010 15:01

Thanks for adding me supersunny Xmas Grin Twins boys are indeed a lovely handful, never a dull moment in my house (or a quiet one!)
