Hello ladies,

Congratulations on all the positive scans and hello to the newbies!

Been off for a few days as DH and I are losers and do our own Christmas day before we drive around the country trying to please family :) Seems to have stretched over a long weekend this time ...

Went to see the nursery at my work today - it was nice though it just doesn't feel real. Neither of us had any questions to ask as neither of us know what the hell we are doing!

MS has returned with a bit of a vengeance, too :(

In good news, I finally bought maternity bras on Saturday. I am a D cup woohoo! I never thought I'd see the day! Couldn't believe it, and cannot believe how much more comfy they are than the underwired B cups I was struggling on with ... why did I leave it so late?!

Home for Christmas tomorrow and neither my mum and step-dad nor my inlaws have internet, so posts will be few and far between. They're all only 50 too, except my step-dad who is 42 - God knows how they survive in such a technology-free zone!

Merry Christmas ladies, if I don't check in before!

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 19:09

nomoresnow Thats interesting to hear. I wonder if it is ok to take something like Floradix. Have to admit, Ive really struggled getting veggies & goodness into me over the 1st tri, blurgh. Wouldnt be too suprised if this has somthing to do with my constant head to toe itchy skin (still) too.

Welcome northernrose :)

GV Ive read good things about the bee, if you dont mind me asking, roughly how much does it cost & what did you buy to go with it?

petitech · 20/12/2010 19:33

santamaxx I'm with you on the exhaustion, I read somewhere that the baby doubles in size the next couple of weeks so maybe that's where all our reserves are going, or maybe it's just the cold winter and mad run up to Xmas?
I think I actually feel queasy again today, dammit, not sick but def not as good as I have been doing. On the plus side, I have the day off tomorrow, then one day in with boss and one final day in 'winding down' Wink Have 16 week appt tomorrow too and then have treated myself to a pregnancy safe massage and facial at the health spa, very indulgent but I feel like a totally minger and need some Xmas sparkle! Someone helpfully told me to today, isnt 16 weeks a bit early to be showing!!!

takethatlady · 20/12/2010 19:39

Ooh petitech can I ask about pregnancy safe massage? I am taking my mum to a spa for her 50th birthday on the 30th December, and the spa asked if I was pregnant (we have a full hour body massage each as part of the package). I said yes and she said as long as I have had my 12 week scan I'm safe to have it - but why? Why would it be not safe before 12 weeks but safe after? Don't want to take any chances ...

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 19:42

TTL- i have also booked a spa day for me and my mum for xmas they just sed as long as i was past the first trimester it was fine. not sure y tho, i will quite happily indulge in my hour long massage tho :)

takethatlady · 20/12/2010 19:47

Thanks! That's what they said to me too ... google is now freaking me out though, as usual. Damn google!

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 19:54

petitech enjoy your lovely treatments & hope all goes well at your check.

tt I'm a holistic & beauty therapist & have worked in salons & spas. I now own my own salon.
It is always good to know if our clients are pg so we know for example which essential oils to avoid (if using e.o). It also helps know which type of massage to give, ie - not one that is too stimulating for the system.
Therapists trained in pre & pst natal massage will know about safe client placement, so on.
Many places freak out if they so much catch a hint that there is a pregnant client as many fear that if anything (god forbid) should happen after the treatment, then the client may feel the treatment was to blame. (If its going to happen, its going to happen but some people just need to lay blame somewhere & look at the culture we live in with all these insurance claims).
Many places use the 12 week mark as chances of anything happening are greatly reduced.

I have continued to receive massage & body treatments all the way so far & am happy to give treatment as long as I can cover myself by having a letter or note from the pg clients healthcare professional saying they are happy for me to do so. Mainly because this is what my insurance company requires.

Brain fog tonight, hope this makes sense a little lol

santamaxx · 20/12/2010 20:03

Ah good petitech - must be normal then and if baby doubling in size then no wonder Xmas Smile
Enjoy your lovely treatments - my 16week appt is tomorrow too.

GoodVibrations · 20/12/2010 20:05

Welcome to northernrose!!

moufflon I can't quite remember how much it cost. I think it was about £350 but price went up with all the extras. We bought the babynest (which was brilliant for DD as born in winter, but probably a waste of money for a summer baby). Also bought the foot muff - that's been great as the top zips off so it's part of the seat in warmer weather. Had to buy the parasol as no other umbrella fits it (bit sneaky really). Also had to buy some adapter bits for the maxi-cosi cabriofix car seat that slots into it (very handy indeed).

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 20:11

thanks GV wish there was a like or thanks button on here

expectingbabyno2 · 20/12/2010 20:26

Ok, thanks ladies! Seeing midwife tomorrow so will double check with her. I'm sure all is ok but no harm in asking.

Does anyone know much about the flu jab? Has anyone had it yet?

I too have started looking at prams.. there are some gorgeous ones out there! I am looking for something where I can combine the carseat (which clips into an isofx base) and also into the pram. There is so much out there so may wait to go to a Mothercare but will wait til 20 week scan (18th Jan)just to be safe!

Names.. we are just keeping to the back up names we had for DS. Oscar for a boy and Ruby or Olivia for a girl - but may change!!

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 20:34

expecting I had the jab at 6 weeks when I went to gp to register pregnancy. I took it without really thiking about it but really don't know much about it.
My 20 week scan is 18th Jan too so I shall remember you :)

(Living on here tonight, ooops)

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 21:03

i have decided to take the scan, mainly bcos of DD i just dont want to take the risk of getting really ill, so getting flu jab next week, i wasnt going to get it, but there is so much flu flying round by mine at the mo, it has spurred me on to get it

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 21:05

oh on the prams front i had a lovely silver cross with DD but now need a double pram, so i sold the silver cross about 6 wks ago, really really have no idea wot double pram to get tho

Mummynumber2 · 20/12/2010 21:58

I had a little look at prams in mothercare a couple of weeks ago. To be honest I left more confused than when I went in. I was also a bit shocked about the price of them!

There are some lovely names being mentioned. We're thinking of Serena, Sasha or Gabriella for a girl and Alexander for a boy. But will almost definitely change our minds several times before June. Xmas Smile

Hello and welcome Northernrose.

Nobody's mentioned the flu jab to me but I think I'm going to ask for it. I don't think there's any evidence that it can cause any harm to the baby and I decided last year, after being out of action for 2 weeks due to flu that I would do anything to avoid it this year!

expectingbabyno2 · 20/12/2010 22:30

mouffloncake Oo I shall remember you too! Can't wait for it!

I'm going to ask MW tomorrow about flu jab, think I will get it done though.

Mummynumber2 Really? My local Mothercare is great! I am just worried that they may try and flog me the most expensive pram in the shop!

Is anyone thinking of getting an isofix type base? My problem is finding a car seat which uses this type of base and also fits into a chassis of a pram. Could anyone recommend anything?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/12/2010 07:25

Northernrose - there is a thread under Discussions of the Day about flu jabs, both Swine and seasonal flu.

Apparently there is a webchat with a professor of immunology today about it as well.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/12/2010 07:43

webchat here

santamaxx · 21/12/2010 08:17

expectingbabyno2 - the maxi cosi cabriofix fits into an isofix base and also onto various pram chassis - I think it's the most versatile one in that there are loads of prams/pushchairs which are compatible with it.

Mummynumber2 · 21/12/2010 09:05

Expecting I think I'm more to blame than mothercare. I went in thinking I would want just a buggy/ pram that is simple, light, easy to get in and out of the car etc. Then I realised all the possibilities! I think I need to do a bit more research!

Thanks for the link kara. Xmas Smile

jasmine51 · 21/12/2010 09:07

Thanks for suggestions re bras. I got some breast pads yesterday and they certainly gave some relief. I popped into Triumph to ask the lady there why I was the only one with this problem and it seems I am rather 'large' (34FF)...well, yes, I dont need to be told I have a couple of basket balls strapped up in there. God I'm hoping they dont get any bigger...no wonder I keep falling over.

Have a good day ladies - off to ebay now to hire a doppler as I'm having another wobble
x

Moog72 · 21/12/2010 09:37

Mummy I love your name choices. No good for me though unfortunately for vaious reasons.

I quite like the names Luca and Lucas, but they don't go with my surname... if anyone has any more fantastic boys names they'd like to share please do Grin

Am very Envy re. big boobs - I have made it to a pathetic B cup... not fair!

jinglebellssantasmells · 21/12/2010 09:45

moog- i also really like the name lucas and again DP sed no he sed it reminds him of the crap liverpool player, i have suggested so many and DP always says no :(

Moog72 · 21/12/2010 09:58

jingle that's always a problem isn't it - associations with other people with those names.

We are not intending to find out sex of the baby but I am a bit tempted as it means we will only have to think of one name!

My DH is Dutch and really wants a Dutch name but that makes it so hard (I can't pronounce half of them!)

jinglebellssantasmells · 21/12/2010 10:06

My DP is half nigerian and i am half italian, dont mind an italian name but no way a nigerian name lol dont think i wud ever learn to pronounce them, DP has a very english name tho :)
