Morning all,

Good luck for today catherine :)

Hope you all had a nice weekend. Snowed here saturday so had to cancel plans but did manage to get out yesterday to get some food, suddenly realised we had none if we end up not being able to get where we're meant to go at Christmas! Trouble was our car tyres are rubbish and although I managed to get into our road I couldn't get to our house! A very lovely man and his dad came out to help me and I managed to get there eventually Grin

I'm talking to the midwife tomorrow about the flu jab. Haven't been offered it yet but know it's recommended. DH suffers from it pretty much every year and although I have yet to have it I don't really fancy it! I'm in the camp that the flu jab has been offered to pregnant women for years and for me I think I am veering on having it. Don't worry, there's loads of these things to deal with as time goes on Grin The only advice I can give, which is clearly none medical, is to be happy with the decision you have made and maybe go with your instinct. If you research you will always find enough 'evidence' to support your fears and confuse yourself even more!

Happy monday :)

Minus 15 here on the car temp guage...thats ear snappingly cold! Got to take the dog to be clipped later...he's not going to thank me for that!

Take care in the cold everyone - dont try and beat my tally for falling over!

x

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/12/2010 09:16

Merlion - that is really interesting what you said about the headaches and salt levels - I suffer badly from migraines and I tend to find I crave salty things when I have one!

I've been getting niggling headaches at the moment as well, trying not to take too much paracetamol, but sometimes they get really bad.

I also have a 16 week appointment with my MW tomorrow and will ask her then about the flu jab, I am going to ask what she knows of the prevalence of seasonal flu in our area. Last year there were a few cases of swine flu, including at least one at DS's nursery but not loads.

jasmine51 · 20/12/2010 09:20

Can I ask for advice please...
I dont know if anyone else finds this but the seams on bras all seem to cut right across my nipples and they are getting really sore. Before getting pg the solution was to wear a seamless bra but I cant find these in the maternity section. Does anyone else experience this and what suggestions do you have? Would breastfeeding pads help do you think? (sorry, never seen one so dont know what they even look like).
Thanks lovely ladies

Mummynumber2 · 20/12/2010 09:49

Thanks featherblue I knew there would be some at a more reasonable price somewhere around here. Xmas Smile. I think I need to find out the gender just for my mum, I found out last week that she's been making and buying baby clothes since long before I got pregnant. She showed me a huge bag full of dresses, boys trousers, blue knitted jumpers, pink knitted jumpers and just about everything else you can imagine! I think she needs to know asap which type of clothes to stop getting! Xmas Grin

Hope everyone's well this morning. I'll read properly and come back later ( for some reason looking at a computer makes me feel even sicker).

Clarkiee · 20/12/2010 09:59

I'm ill Sad always bloody happens- break up for the hols and get ill!
I've had a cold, cough and bad headache. Googled it and have been drinking Hot orange juice with 2 tbl spoons of honey 3 times a day. For my headache had a cold compress on my head and eyes. Seems to be working because I feel a lot better today (going to spend another day on the couch though). I'm going to try isotonic drinks though if I get another headache. Boooooo illness, glad I got my Christmas shopping done.

I'm in two minds about flu jab. More tempted because I work in a school with lots of bugs flying about.

On the bra thing jasmine sorry I can't help you. I got a maternity bra from topshop but couldn't tell you where the seam is x

Clarkiee · 20/12/2010 10:00

Woah mummyno2 your mum really wants to be a grandma!

santamaxx · 20/12/2010 10:35

Wow - looks like loads of us have appts tomorrow - I have my 16wk midwife appt too Grin
Sorry you're feeling ill Clarkiee

While we're still on the subject of flu jabs, last year DH, DS and DD all had the swine flu vax - does this mean they are still protected or not?
Not bothered about DH as he works in a hospital so will get it anyway, but don't think kids are being offered so far this year...

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 10:42

santamax- my DD is 20 months and was wondering whether she shud have been offered it

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 10:45

really sick of being stuck in the house now, need to get out and have some adult company and conversation :( i have booked pre- natal yoga tomoro nite so atleast that is something different to look forward to and i think i am going to try aquanatal on thurs, hoping to meet a few expectant mums in real life as i hardly know anyone at the moment who is off in the day and has kids and have been feeling a bit mismog lately :(

Clarkiee · 20/12/2010 11:24

I really fancy aquanatal jingle our local pool does it but its been called off for last four weeks because the MW that runs it won't do it unless the pool is a certain temp Sad

Thanks santamaxx. I need to stop feeling sorry for myself really x

expectingbabyno2 · 20/12/2010 12:20

Hi all! Sorry have not been on for a while!

Need advice.. DS has chicken pox. Thought that it would be ok for me (baby) and have googled stuff which suggested that as I have had it before then it is ok.. but have had friends who have frightened me! Is baby in any harm?

I have 16 week check tomorrow with MW but in the mean time, shall I panic??

Thanks!

Mummynumber2 · 20/12/2010 12:25

I would understand it if it was her 1st gc clarkiee but she already has 5! (3 steps but they all get treated the same).

I agree leroy, everything I've read says that although some people can feel movement very early that's very rare and it's more usual to start feeling it at around 18-20 weeks. So don't worry, your was just one of the rare people who felt it early.

I hope you're feeling better soon clarkiee and leroy.

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 12:27

expecting-i wudnt panic, i thought that DD had chicken pox when i was about 8 weeks turned out it wasnt and was just a rash but when i went to drs with her to have it checked she told me not to worry and that if ive had it its fine and even if i hadnt it is only very late in pg that she wud be concerned in any way

hope this helps

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 12:28

clarkie- thats a shame i really hope my pool is warm enuf to go theres a couple of pools close to me that do it so fingers crossed

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 13:02

Just had my 16wk check & altho they didn't have any of my blood results in, I got to have a listen to the heartbeat which was amazing & bought a tear to my eye :)

Following on from the headaches & isotonic drinks posts, please do try drinking coconut water such as Vita Coca. "It's a natural isotonic drink, packed with naturally occurring electrolytes with 20 times the potassium of the leading sports drink. Contains more potassium than two banana & is 100% natural".
It's fantastic for the body & helps with things like candidia.

It's like sticking a straw into a fresh coconut :)

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 13:05

Is anybody experiencing hairloss?

Every day, after showering & washing my hair, the plug hole it totally clogged with hair, so much so, that it stops the water draining.
Midwife made a not of it today but just said if its still bad in 3 weeks, go see my gp.

Merlion · 20/12/2010 13:50

moufflon I didn't get hairloss until afterwards - quite the opposite when pg last time - which is not great as humidity here makes my hair frizzy at the best of times. Another friend had this and was to do with lack of iron - might be worth investigating if it persists though.

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 14:05

Thanks merlion. I might try some floradix

motherofsnortpigs · 20/12/2010 14:40

I have just found the Nutella in the fridge - disaster! Thanks merlion and moufflon for the drinks advice. Will get DH on to it. jasmine how annoying about the bras. You really don't need special maternity bras - get anything supportive and not underwired. For the ones you've already got, try lifting up your boob and lowering it into the cup - maybe you do that already?! Or put vaseline on your nipples...You could try breastpads, but they do look a bit obvious under some tops, but a better look than milk soaked clothes Xmas Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/12/2010 14:53

Mouffloncake - where do you get that coconut drink from? I haven't heard of it but it sounds nice mixed with pineapple juice and a slug of bacardi Grin

My cough is really bad. Getting fed up with it.

catherineps · 20/12/2010 15:18

just checking in to say all good at the scan :) All the right number of limbs etc and heart beating away - so nice to be able to share the news with everyone :)

Will now add myself to the stats . . .

mouffloncake · 20/12/2010 15:19

lol kara
I get mine from the local health store & they do mail order:
www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk/store/product/13558/Vita-Coco-Vita-coconut-water-330ml-/

I have just found it in waitrose slightly cheaper tho.
Holland & Barrett also stock it & sell the larger cartons too. I love it but not everybody does.

Hope you feel better soon
