Morning, ladies. I've ended up with some unexpected time to catch up on posts as our flight to the States has been cancelled (we're going to spend Christmas with my family). I haven't been able to get through to BA all morning, so I have no idea when we'll get out of here, which is upsetting as we were making stops to visit various relatives; we have several domestic flights booked with another airline which might now be affected as well.

In any case, congratulations to all of those who have had their scans! That must be nearly everyone by now. Welcome also to those who have recently joined or re-joined the group.

I'm battling my second cold in two weeks at the moment which is difficult as apparently everything stronger than hot water with lemon and honey could be bad for the baby. Other than that, my pregnancy has been progressing pretty smoothly. I am also one who feels more fat than pregnant, and looking forward to having a proper bump!

Anyways, I hope everyone has a fab weekend and that no one else is stranded due to the weather.

NurseSnowflake · 18/12/2010 12:17

Gah that's awful Mrswants, I really hope things get sorted in good time.
Paracetamol is safe to take during pregnancy and will help bring your temperature down if it's a bit high as this is bad for baby. Might help ease aches and pains as well. At least you can catch up on rest until your flight. Hope you feel better soon

santamaxx · 18/12/2010 12:47

Thanks Jasmine I'll do that Xmas Smile

lol nurse - need to get myself some of that essential shopping gear Xmas Wink

catherineps · 18/12/2010 13:25

me me me! I'm still waiting for my first scan on monday 12.30. I will add myself to the stats after that, all being well. My EDD is 30th June so it's not that they've not put me in, just frustrating to be the last!

Am feeling rough, have either got a sickness bug or eaten something that disagreed with me - having not been sick for 12 weeks yesterday projectile vomited 5 times in one evening and have temperature :( sorry for tmi! have managed to keep some fluid down today luckily.

sorry for moaning!

motherofsnortpigs · 18/12/2010 13:28

Hi Folks - I suddenly find myself with playing girls, a sleeping baby and DH doing the accounts.

mrswants that is so rubbish. Your poor, disappointed family Xmas Sad.

On the clothes-front. I got a lovely pair of skinny fit maternity jeans (is that an oxymoron?) last time round, which I have been living in because I can wear them with my warm boots. I did have a quick look at the mat clothes in H&M a few weeks ago and they were pretty poor. I have the added complication of still breast feeding DS several times a day so I have to look at whether it will unbutton/lift up/shift to the side easily. I've got a couple of OKish tops from Mothercare, but they are too short in the body/sleeves. My biggest wardrobe crisis will come when my SIL gets married - I'll want something that shows off the bump if I haven't popped and something that hides the bulge if I have (and I can bf in). I think I'll buy several outfits and take back the ones I don't end up wearing (which could be all of them...)

lisascat I too had a summer '07 baby and felt very cheated. This summer has to be better. We'll probably all be whinging about the heat by April.

We've actually got some snow now which is still a novelty and I have nowhere to go today and a big fire going. Have made some flapjack and will do a bread and butter pudding and a bolognese when DS wakes up (will make DH look after him - cheeky!) I forgot to buy eggs yesterday and I am not going out, so I could do some biscuits later, but the solitary egg will have to hold the bread and butter pudding together...

Worst pregnancy symptom in the last few weeks has been headaches. Mainly boring, but when I caught myself on the sofa covering my closed eyes because I couldn't bear the amount of light that was filtering through my eyelids I realised that perhaps a few paracetamol were probably ok.

I'm so glad all of the recent scans have been positive. Enjoy the run up to Christmas. this is on my wish list, but I am certain I'll get slippers - again Xmas Smile

Boy awake - byeeee!

Mummynumber2 · 18/12/2010 13:30

Hi everyone. I'm just checking in. I haven't been keeping up very well at all this week. What with ms, bad cold, snow, total lack of organisation with Xmas and v small car accident (nobody hurt) it's all been very hectic! I'm also still really struggling with food. I think it's been over 2 months since I ate a proper meal now. Still can't handle meat, cheese, eggs or most things really. I'm doing my best to avoid Xmas dinner as sometimes just the smell of meat will make me throw up. Surely at 15 weeks I should be over that now!

Congratulations to people who had good scan results, that's great news! Also hello to the new people.

I'll make more of an effort to keep up next week.

bananarama05 · 18/12/2010 16:33

Afternoon all just a quick hi from snowless Cambridgshire (still!) :(

Just had a call from DP who thinks he may get stuck at work. He's in Bedfordshire, he reckons they've had maybe a foot so far and is still going (he does tend to overestimate sometimes though!). His boss is off home soon, DP is meant to be there until 9pm and doesn't think he'll be allowed to go before that even though he'll effectively be in charge of the store once his boss leaves...am i bit worried as have no idea how he'll get back if it gets worse.

Who mentioned pie?? I am so off to Tescos to get myself stocked up to make one now, I'd forgotten about Mr Olivers recipe. I normally put some chunky ham and sweetcorn in too, not sure if they're in the original recipe? Pie, mash and gravy? Sound like heaven!

Mummyno2 my appetite has only just started to come back in the last week or so and I'm 16 weeks today so theres hope yet :)

Went xmas shopping today and had a quick look for maternity jeans and was also very very disappointed. Went in 2 big Nexts and neither seemed to have any mat clothes out at all! Bought a nice top in Mamas & Papas (who have a fab sale online and in their shops BTW) and a new support bra from Mothercare...38DD..am dreading what size they will be by the end!

cameli · 18/12/2010 17:19

Well ladies I was very very wrong! Had my second gender scan this afternoon because she was very uncooperative on Tuesday & it's a girl. I still feel like she's a boy though but I suppose I have around 5 months to get used to the idea :)

I'm another one struggling with my appetite & I'm 17 weeks today. I just do not fancy any food at all so I am having to force food down my throat. I have put on no weight at all as my weight varied between 9 stone 9lbs & 9 stone 11lbs before I fell pregnant & I'm 9 stone 11lbs today. I have my 16 week midwife check next Wednesday although I will be 17+4. Hope she doesn't tell me off.

I also had my flu jab 10 days ago. My doctors surgery wrote to me well before I was 12 weeks but no way was I having it before 12 weeks so I waited a few weeks. Glad I had it as I pick up every bug going usually.

Enjoy your weekend ladies :)

X

OMG - stop the pie talk! have just trudged through the snow to the village shop and bought a luxury chicken and ham pie...you lot are making me fat!

Had another Tom n Jerry style fall on the way back, a real ase over tt one. No real damage done, got a bit of a sore back and buttock so now taking it easy and eating another portion of pie!

Mummynumber2 · 18/12/2010 18:49

Wow! Congratulations cameli a girl! That must be so nice to know. I don't think I can wait another month to find out, going to sneekily look at private ones now! DP and I are still in a bit of disagreement about the whole subject of finding out the sex though, he didn't with his others and said it was a really nice surprie. But I'm just too impatient. Grin Who else is finding out?

It's not just me with the lack of apetite then. I really wish all this pie talk would make me want one but it just makes me feel sick. I haven't actually weighed myself but have definately put on weight. The problem is I've progressed from only being able to eat fruit and veg (I lived on peas and cucumber for a couple of weeks!) to only being able to eat carbs and sugar, preferably both together!

Hope you're ok after your fall jasmine!

I'm feeling so angry at the moment, which is really out of character for me, I'm usually quite calm. DSD had a couple of friends over last night and I've just been into her room and it's completley trashed, nothing new there, but there are crisps all over the floor and they've drawn on the top of a wooden blanket box which my dad made for us! Luckily she's gone to her mums now and won't be back till tomorrow afternoon so I'll have time to calm down before I talk to her about it. Angry Angry

moomin156 · 18/12/2010 18:59

Hi All
Completely snowed in.......cant get off the drive so no trip to the MIL for me.....Grin
Been for a wonderful snowy walk now home to comfort food and Strictly. Enjoy your saturday evenings

cameli · 18/12/2010 19:14

moomin there is hardly any snow in Leeds but we did get loads the other week, ds school was closed for 5 days & I was unable to get to work for 2.

Shame about the mil ;)

Mummynumber2 · 18/12/2010 19:26

Oh my god, private gender scans in London seem to be around £500! Is it the same price everywhere or would it be much cheaper travel outside London a bit? This is all completely hypothetical as I'm almost certain DP won't be at all into this idea!

We've got lots and lots of snow!

cameli · 18/12/2010 19:30

mummy my viability scan at 8 weeks was £90, gender scan was £70 & the 3D/4D which I will have in march is £140, £500 is extortion!

jinglebellssantasmells · 18/12/2010 19:39

mummy that is extortionate- the gender scans where i live r around 60 and the 3D/4D scans 90 pound cant believe they can charge 500

Mummynumber2 · 18/12/2010 19:49

I've found one that's £160 now, much better but probably still too much! There must be somewhere not too far, but slightly outside london that's cheaper I reckon. How did you find the clinics? Did you just google?

Actually it would still be cheaper for us to drive somewhere they do them for £60/70, stay in a hotel and make a weekend of it! Now how do I persuade DP? Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 18/12/2010 19:49

Mummynumber2 - when I had my private scan I went to a clinic in Canvey Island (not far from where my mum lives) and I think the gender scan was about £150?

No snow here on Teesside, but we're expecting some tonight.

Mrswantstobemum Sad any chance of rebooking in the next fe days? Sorry you won't get to see the family.

jinglebellssantasmells · 18/12/2010 20:02

i had my scan done in liverpool, its called b4 the stalk, does he like football u cud book him to c liverpool vs whoever he supports Xmas Grin

Mummynumber2 · 18/12/2010 20:59

That's a great idea 'Jinglebells'! He's npt actually into football but loves watching bands (we both do actually). All I need to do is find somewhere where one of his favourite bands is playing and also has somewhere that does cheap gender scans! Do you think he'll fall for it? Xmas Grin

Had my 16 week scan on Thursday. Asked about gender- he said it was a bit tricky to tell but he thought they were boys Grin (I thought they were). Not going to tell anyone (although I've hinted a little) until we know for sure.

At my works do last night two of my colleagues confided in me that they were pregnant too Xmas Grin! One of them only found out on Tuesday! Kept smiling to myself thinking about the secrets.
Later on in the night people kept asking me if they could feel my bump- didn't mind, but when the secetary kept kneeling down and kissing it it got a bit annoying Xmas Wink.

santamaxx · 18/12/2010 22:31

motherofsnortpigs how old is your youngest? Are you planning to tandem feed?
I sort of considered it but ended up weaning DD a month ago. Not sure if it was the right decision - she was 2yrs 5mths but is really prone to thrush (in her mouth)and we were just passing it back and forth to each other constantly. Didn't fancy lumbering the new baby with it as well Xmas Sad

I DEF think summer babies are better - 5 years ago I was almost 9mths pregnant and terrified of walking on icy pavements. Then when the baby was born we were all cooped up in the house so much of the time - nights were FREEZING as we co-sleep and I had to have the quilt around my waist all the time - brrrr. It was so much nicer when I had a summer baby and we could all get so much fresh air, not to mention no problems with coldness during the night Xmas Smile

motherofsnortpigs · 19/12/2010 08:44

Morning! santa yes, I am planning on tandem feeding. It worked really well with the DD's. Did it for 6 months until DD1 was nearly 2 and weaned her over Christmas when daddy was on hand a lot. I am hoping to avoid any engorgement problems this way Xmas Smile Thrush is horrid - I would have given up with an older child too.

santamaxx · 19/12/2010 09:18

Never thought about it helping with engorgement actually. That's very handy!
Hoping for no thrush this time - DS never had it so there is hope for me yet Xmas Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/12/2010 09:34

Santamaxx - in case you get Thrush again (hopefully you won't) insist that both of you get treated at the same time, even if she is not symptomatic. Otherwise it will pass back and forth.

Woke up to yet more snow - a good few inches has fallen overnight!
