Sorry - this is quite blatantly going to do it again, but my computer appears to be submitting all my posts twice. Doh!

Afternoon all, glad to hear my scan buddies all got good results yesterday. So did we. Baby did us the honour of moving in all the right places for the tests and for us to have a good look. We even got a great shot of him/her appearing to wave at the camera, which DD took into nursery with her afterwards to show to all her friends. I'm so glad we took her with us - she really enjoyed it, and the staff were fantastic, involving her in everything and talking to her like she mattered just as much as mummy and daddy (which of course she does, but not all grown-ups behave that way).

On a side note, DP clearly hadn't taken me seriously when I told him that these things are also delayed, sometimes by over an hour. Instead of taking the morning off work, he had told them he'd be in by 10.30. When I tell you our appointment was scheduled for 9.15, and he works an hour from the hospital, you ladies can all form your own picture of what happened next....!

Oh and to the person who mentioned she's looking forward to a June baby meaning we can lie in the sun next to our newborns...... when DD was born May 2007 it was the year of floods and I spent my maternity leave holed up indoors trying not to drown in my own living room. I'm owed a sunny maternity leave. Do you hear me Met Office???? You owe me.

moomin156 · 17/12/2010 15:43

Congrats lisacat excellent news on your scan

Moog72 · 17/12/2010 15:45

Moomin I am going to have to make one of those pies - well actually have just emailed DH to see if he would like to make me one :) I guess we just have to be patent re. the momevent as it will get stronger if it is baby :)

Jinglebells - how exciting - I am jealous re. feeling movement!

Congrats Lisascat that's lovely news!

moomin156 · 17/12/2010 16:31

Moog i think your DH should make you one, pure comfort food.:)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 17/12/2010 16:49

LOL @ Lisascat

We did have a pretty miserable summer this year, I think we are all owed a nice sunshine - I want to sun myself and baby in the park while DS runs around like a loon Smile

knackered76 · 17/12/2010 17:28

TTL - don't worry about placenta position. It changes throughout pregnancy, well if it's low then the chances are it will move up. They don't worry about it until well into 30 weeks. My placenta has been at the front both times which meant I felt movement later and much softer. Initially was a bit sad and then saw people who were getting proper boots in the belly and felt much better Grin

Off for my original nct christmas drinks tonight. 6 years later and we still all get on really well so it's lovely to get together with as many of us as possible. Couple of the men can't make it, DH being one as he's ill, just gives us girls more of the time to natter Grin

Barbie - hope it went well today, what a busy week you've had! Now you can relax this weekend, well try to, before the manicness of christmas sets in :)

On the boob discussion front, I am one of the small boobed ladies and this pregnancy has made me think about getting a boob job done when it's all over. Don't fancy them round my knees at 35 :)

Welcome to the new ones, sorry, I can't remember the names and you're on the other page Blush. I will find out though for my next post!

Have a good evening ladies and a lovely weekend.

jasmine51 · 17/12/2010 18:24

Hiya
Has anyone got the 'Rough Guide to Pregnancy and Birth?' - absolutely hilarious...and informative in a pelvic floor testing kind of way. The first page I read was talking about whether to have a brazilian before labour in order to look good from 'that end' - genius.

DaisyFields · 17/12/2010 23:16

Hi everyone.

Totally going to get that book Jasmine, it sounds great. My friend has let me borrow one of hers which is really funny and the section on 'vaginal secretions' had me tittering in bed the other night.

Had a weird evening, was driving to my mum's at about 6.30pm and withheld number called my mobile, obviously didn't answer as I was driving. Met at the doorstep by mum who said docs had called my dad, please could I call them asap. Mum is all flustered and panicking in typical mother fashion. I called the surgery and they asked me to go in for a flu jab tomorrow morning. I said that I had a mw appt on thurs, could I do both at once and they said no, I have to go in tomorrow morning. Weird.

Great news about everyone's scans. We're speeding along on our way to June now!

Baublepink · 17/12/2010 23:42

hi all!

Jasmine That book's great. Regarding Brazilian waxes, I would definitely de-fuzz down there by some means or other in good time before the birth, because otherwise the nurses will do it for you instead, with a rusty Bic Xmas Grin if they feel the need (i.e if the overgrowth is obscuring the vision, or if an episiostomy or caesarean is required - the area should be hair-free). It's probably easiest to use wash-off hair remover than go for a Brazilian at that stage though!

Great news re scan lisascat Smile

Baublepink · 17/12/2010 23:44

daisy how odd (and worrying!) - maybe you live in an area where a few people have been diagnosed with swine flu? I think I saw a report that a girl had died in Blackpool of it very recently Sad (linked to other health problems I think, not sure of the details though as I heard of it 2nd hand) maybe there's been something similar where you are and they are taking precautions.

NurseSnowflake · 17/12/2010 23:46

Congrats on all the great scans and low risk factors :) I just got a letter saying I'm low risk, but doesn't give a number.

I'm so happy I'm due in June because then babeh gets a summer birthday and will be able to have lovely parties in the garden :)

Tried going maternity clothes shopping today, just for some tops and/or dresses. I was SO disgusted by the lack of anything remotely wearable. It was all just horrible baggy tops, combat trousers, baggy jeans and swetshirts. Where are all the bright, fun clothes?? It's like you've got to dress like a pensioner who's let themselves go just cuz you're preggers. I was v v v upset so had to go to a vintage shop and buy a lovely dress which I will only be able to wear for another few weeks or something but it cheered me up!

Merlion · 18/12/2010 02:34

Hi ladies. I know this is rather late but I've been lurking since around the 6 week mark. But would be really grateful if you'd let me join stats are as follows:

Merlion DC2 EDD 06/06 (DS 2.4)

I had a lot of feeling sick early on and lost a few kilos - now why doesn't that happen normally?! But couldn't actually be sick and am feeling much better now. I had a scan at 8 weeks then another at 12 weeks and was classified as low risk so all good. I have another scan on Tuesday when I will be 16 weeks (I live overseas so I get one pretty much every month here). Am hoping they might even be able to tell us what it is. We didn't find out with DS but have decided to this time.

Feeling for you all with all that snow hope you are all ok and sickness is easing for those still feeling rough.

Clarkiee · 18/12/2010 08:52

Oh my God!!! What is with the weather!?! We missed out last time its here with avengence now. Went on my works do had to abandon the car and walk home Sad luckily I'd packed my wellies. Got two mates who live in different towns stuck at my house. Typical work has broken up for Christmas too so no days off. On the brighter side I don't really have anywhere to go and I've only got two presents left to buy x

First time I read I was crying with laughter!

No more snow here but it is frakking cold!!

takethatlady · 18/12/2010 09:51

Not much to add here - thanks for advice about placenta knackered :)

nurse I'm off shopping today for maternity things - I think I'm going to buy a pair of maternity jeans, a couple of maternity camis and a nice cardigan I saw in New Look, a couple of pairs of maternity leggings, and a couple of non-maternity jumper dresses. Need bras too and only have £100 so clearly I'm not going to buy all this - but my point is I'm going to try to buy non-maternity stuff because I totally agree with you about the shitness of maternity clothes. Why are they all for frumpy 50-somethings (my mum is 50 and wouldn't be seen dead in most of the stuff I've seen) or, failing that, really expensive? Pregnant women are almost all well under 50, and they're almost all broke cos they're saving for the baby! Give us cheap, trendy clothes!!!

Shock at nurses shaving you down there! I keep myself de-fuzzed and was thinking of growing it back for fear of embarrassment but I am definitely keeping it all off now!

Welcome to the thread Merlion and BprincessXmas Smile

I'm really starting to wonder why I've not been invited for the flu jab - how many of us have had it so far?

I'm going to brave the shops today - mad? - definitely!

jasmine51 · 18/12/2010 10:37

santa not all surgeries have a policy to 'invite' you for a flu jab unless you are on their radar because you have had one before. Ring up and ask for one, they will usually do it very quickly. Had mine on Monday within an hour of enquiring...no side effects apart from a sore arm...but played up to DH and made him bring me hot drinks as I was 'feeling a little weak' Grin

Daisy just read that bit on vaginal secretions he he. Like the little Q & A panels - the one re what to expect during labour made me laugh 'what is the mans role during labour?'....'do whatever she tells you, and be quick about it'!

Just about snowed in here now...have romantic images of pg woman trudging through the snow with a sledge full of wood for the fire, but cant be arsed, I'll turn up the heating instead

Have a good day
xx

NurseSnowflake · 18/12/2010 10:49

That's "Adolf" out then

Good luck Santamaxx, you'll need it. I, too, am heading into town, having thoroughly prepared myself
I think I've decided against the flu jab btw. If you're worried and want it then call your GP surgery and enquire.

Welcome Merlion and BPrincess

Good luck TTL let us know if you find any wearable mat clothes. I honestly thought H&M would be the provider of cheap and trendy but alas, they were not :(

My friend last night told me to just give up and live in trackie bottoms but I steadfastly refuse to leave the house in them.
