Hi everyone,

Another one just catching up after the Christmas period. Everyone in the house came down with horrendous flu, except me. I am absolutely amazed I didn't catch it. DH was exceptionally bad which did send me off to the Dr pronto to sort out my flu jab. Bit late after the event like!

Hiya to all the newcomers, I'm a bit crap at posting, but do read everyone's posts every day. Should make it my New Years resolution to get a bit more involved and get over my shyness.

August is a very busy month for babies isn't it?

I had my booking in appt with the midwife today and was a bag of nerves. The recent MC has made me doubt myself and symptoms massively, was terrified, so she sent me off to th EPAU for a scan and I am happy to report that I saw a bean and a heartbeat and measure bang on for my dates, so feel slightly more reassured.

Ohh, meant to say hi to MrsChemist-we were on the May thread together. (Even if it was only for a short while).

Nickstermum-I'm with you on the terrified/delighted rollercoaster.

Firawla · 05/01/2011 00:05

daisysair hmm so if they are not digging in can say they are fine really?
i had the maternity ones from mothercare and they were pretty crap tbh
may have a look for some nice underwire feeding bras (well not yet though)

mrsjones that's good you got to have a scan and feel reassured, good luck to all those with previous mcs must be difficult, really hope everything goes well for you all. maybe after 12 weeks will be able to relax more?

Cadmum · 05/01/2011 02:42

Rough week here... Odors are enough to send me off to the loo vomiting. My parents arrive next week and I cannot imagine how I will cope with their visit. BLEURGH!

My mum never experienced morning (let alone all day) sickness so she doesn't seem to believe that it exists. I also haven't summoned the courage to tell them that we are expecting (again).

I read somewhere that the sickness peaks at 9 weeks. I don't recall that pattern from previous pregnancies but I am desperately clinging it now!

Spiltthetea: I am not sure if there is a pattern for mmc but I sure feel let down that my body seems to prefer this method. I have only had second trimester mmcs. Very frustrating to not be able to relax after 12 weeks (6 of which I spend nauseated and vomiting) only to have to discover at a scan that there is no heartbeat.

I don't have any constructive advice but I do have four healthy dcs so clearly not every pregnancy ends badly for us. I am happy to be a virtual hand-holder. I have every confidence that things will go well for you this time. There is nothing that will help you get over your nervousness as a loss at 20 weeks is heartbreaking but hopefully a one off since a reason was identified. Stay rested, eat healthfully and remain positive. I know exactly what you mean about booking a scan. I am also torn. A scan only offers me relief for a few days at best but somehow I would prefer to know if things have already gone badly this time...

Hodel · 05/01/2011 08:00

Belated Happy New Year to all. I've been offline for ages and came back to this thread to see it has exploded! I think there were only about 10 when I joined. Congratulations to everyone.

Went for a 10 wk dating scan(standard here in Singapore) and was surprised to see the baby is already active, moving tiny hands and feet. With DD I only had a scan much further along, and so I guess I wasn't expecting that much development at this stage. It gave me a real wave of anxiety when I suddenly thought: this is real, I'm going through all this again, another person I will be entirely responsible for. Felt better by the evening, but really can't wait for the 2nd trimester good mood hormones to kick in!

The system here is very different. There are no midwives, only OBs. It is very pro intervention and in particular elective c/s. Apparently hospitals (which are mainly private) are gorgeous and even provide food menus, but we've found out our medical insurance doesn't cover maternity and the cost is somewhere around £5,000 as a foreigner Shock. All things seem to be pointing to us heading back to London sooner than we anticipated.

nickstermum · 05/01/2011 10:29

Im so glad you posted that cadmum i was 9 weeks yesterday and the sickness does seem to have disappeared somewhat! (was starting a momentary panic but still have porn-star norks covered in veins with scary nips so my other symptoms are still there!

To all those ladies who have seen a hb at 8 weeks

spilt we have to thank for this information. There is a 98% chance of pg to term when you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks. I too am terrified of MMC. I dont have a history of mmc, as i had a blighted ovum last time, but the thought of that loss again fills me with fear. 3 more weeks.....and counting daily...til the next milestone) Just to reassure those who may be worrying about hb... and mmc.... although saying that.... its not very reassuring if you fall into the 2% that doesnt Confused

MrsChemist · 05/01/2011 15:42

Apparently underwired bras increase your chances of getting mastitis, but presumably if you are fitted properly, then a wired bra would be fine.

I'm absolutely shattered. DS and DH have been ill, so both aren't sleeping, which means I'm not either. I did a big shop with the help of my friend, but it's all in piles waiting to be put away. I really don't have the energy though. I'm just going to stare at it for a bit longer and hope it puts itself away.

nickstermum · 05/01/2011 16:01

I was told that too mrsC underwires can interfere with milk flow also. (assuming peeps may want to bf) My first pg i was told to get a really good fitting sports bra, now my norks are generally saggy after 2 years bf DS...so whether thats true i dont know!!

Mm i am working at home, trying not to look at the pile of ironing! I managed 2 items last night, before i was too tired. Hating this being back at work... exhausted already!!

MrsChemist · 05/01/2011 16:12

Hello MrsJones, good to see you, fingers crossed everything works out ok this time Smile

spilttheteaagain · 05/01/2011 18:55

Thanks for your words Cadmum. I hate not knowing so much. I so hope this is a keeper for you.

Yes I had also heard that sickness peaks at 9-10 weeks because after that the placenta takes over so your hormones stop going so haywire and hence in theory your stomach settles. Last time I certainly found after about 10 weeks I felt a lot better (not properly better, but it got much easier).

Nix apparently it's pregnancy not breast feeding that ruins your boobs! No hope for any of us!

I was violently sick early this morning and also spent a miserable half hour mid morning hanging over the work loos. Which weren't actually that clean Angry. Can't eat hardly anything apart from oranges, jacket potatoes, rice krispies and hobnobs. I am sick of all of them though!
Can't wait for 9-10 weeks...

Firawla · 05/01/2011 19:13

does anyone know a good place you can be fitted with the underwired maternity or feeding bras then? as would be good to know

i hope the 9-10 weeks sickness thing will be true for most of us. my previous two i was sick til over 20 weeks, but as this time is just nausea not actual puking i hope it will go earlier

Bryher · 05/01/2011 19:41

Firawla My Mum and MIL have both said that for girls they felt sick all the time, while for boys they felt sick morning only - so maybe what times you feel sick does mean something! Am kind of hoping so as that would mean a girl for me :)

CappuccinoCarrie · 05/01/2011 19:43

Bravado do the best maternity and nursing bras I've ever had (M&S and mothercare ones didn't fit me at all well) try here

Their original nursing bra grows with you - I was a C cup in pregnany, a DD when my milk came in, and settled to a D after a few months and this bra saw me all the way through. Their tank top is also A-maze-ing, especially as we're having summer babies, you can just wear that, then in winter wear it under your top and when you lift your top to feed, your whole tummy is still covered.

nickstermum · 05/01/2011 20:01

OMG just started to watch pissed and pregnant...horrified and want to do evil things to the people on it..and have only watched 2 mins!

Nope its going off!

nickstermum · 05/01/2011 20:06

Actually now it has got past the 6 month pg girl dancing round a lamp post swigging red wine from a bottle pissed out her face its actually quite informative! DH stomped off to bed in a huff!!

LifeOfKate · 05/01/2011 20:30

Hi all,

Quick update, have got an early scan booked for tomorrow morning after my bleed (of which there has been no recurrence) so please cross your fingers that I will be able to remain in the club with you all! I don't know what to think really, I think it will be ok, but don't want to get my hopes up, IYSWIM. Eeek.

I think I can help with the whole age old question about whether it is pregnancy or bfing which destroys your boobs! I am a one-boobed bfeeder due to a nipple abnormality on one side, so both boobs have been through pregnancy and one has done just over a year of bfing and the other has done approx 3 weeks on and off. In my extensive research of one set of boobs (:o) I can say that the one which has not been used much is at least, if not more deflated than the one which has been used for bfing :( Hmm :o
So in my highly scentific experience, it is pregnancy, not bfing which does so much damage to your boobs!

Firawla · 05/01/2011 20:45

thanks carrie, i see they do those in john lewis so maybe will go there

kate good luck for tomorrow

bryher i hope so too, would be nice (although i am happy with either obviously)

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 05/01/2011 21:03

Hope everything goes well tomorrow Kate!! Has anyone else had broken sleep or vivid dreams? I have since before Christmas and it's driving me mad. It's not so much insomnia, I just keep waking up several times through the night, which is not like me! I made sure last night that the bedroom was nice & cool and I finally slept all the way through - and felt shocking this morning Confused I felt so tired, irritable and.... SICK (woohoo) There were 3 occasions this morning that I actually thought I was going to vom! After a couple of hours, I was back to my usual self - troughing away constantly like the little piggy I've turned in to :) On another note, I'm highly disappointed in our postie, as he is (purposley I believe) holding on to 3 vital deliveries - my car tax disc (yes,I know it was my fault for ordering it online after Christmas), a belated Christmas pressie from DH (how exciting) and my letter confirming my scan date. Grrrr - normally, I'd quite happily chase him back down the drive, flinging the bills back at him Grin

ohanotherone · 05/01/2011 21:04

Life of Kate.

Individual case studies such as yours, where you are your own control are indeed a valuable contribution to the debate and actually make very good science.

I fed my DS for 3.5 years and my boobs are still in good form, unlike my crow's feet eyes which are ravaged severely!!!! Smile

CappuccinoCarrie · 05/01/2011 21:29

having bf only my second child, my scientific research tells me that pregnancy makes your boobs head south, but its bf that gives you stretch marks!

I would update the list with the newbies but I feel too sick and I'm going to bed, someone else please do it!

LouBeee · 05/01/2011 21:31

IIfAtFirstUDontSucceed I've not slept through the night for about 3 weeks now. I assumed it was because I needed the loo a couple of times a night but now I'm starting to think I wake up first and then think I need the loo. It's driving me mad too, miss my 8 hours.

Waiting for my scan letter date letter too - very annoying, want to know NOW!!

spilttheteaagain · 05/01/2011 21:37

IfAtFirst yes I too have incredibly vivid dreams that wake me up. Can't sleep through either. Also for some strange reason as soon as I am pregnant I can only sleep on my back. No idea why as I am a side sleeper normally but now every time I wake up I am on my back again Hmm

I think I have small bumpage now too!

MrsChemist · 05/01/2011 21:50

Good luck LifeofKate.

I've had a few vivid dreams. One of which that I went to the toilet and had a baby. Weird.

I've not slept well though because DS isn't well. Today I begged my friend to come and help me look after him because I feel rotten and he feels rotten and is very clingy as a result.

Although, so far, I don't think the sickness has been as bad this time. That could be because I'm too busy looking after DS to think about how I feel.

nickstermum · 05/01/2011 22:14

kate best of luck lovely xxx

lilacblossom · 06/01/2011 08:11

Gool luck Kate, thinking of you.
I feel encouraged that the nausea is supposed to ease off about 9/10 weeks - I think it did for me last time. Starting to feel a bit miserable that I just can't enjoy food any more, I'm just shoving it in to stop myself feeling queasy and have completely gone off things I used to love like tea, coffee and copious amounts of cake!

LadyGoneGaga · 06/01/2011 08:58

Good luck today, Kate. Will be thinking of you

And thanks for the boobs info - makes me feel better that I haven't ruined mine just by feeding xxx
