IME they go through phases of being more or less active for a dsy or two. But if the baby keeps this up longer-term it might mean you have a child like DS in store you poor poor things.

Tarlia · 23/11/2010 17:56

My baby too has days of being very active, but like today as I've been pretty busy I've either not noticed as much, or the movement has lulled him/her. I'm 26 weeks and often it looks like baby is going to exit through my stomach, especially if I'm laying down - it's really weird fun to watch my tummy change shape.

ZeroMinusZero · 23/11/2010 20:10

Mine is very very active... but only at certain times. She's most active when I'm in bed trying to get to sleep. I've never noticed her being active throughout the day without stopping, she seems to have periods of rest. But I'm only 25 weeks.

tadjennypumpkinpie · 23/11/2010 21:29

Of course you belong zero. We welcome all-comers here, doncha know?! My little one is very active and my tummy often looks like something out of the alien! I think I am 29 weeksish!

WanderingSheep · 23/11/2010 21:36

Mine doesn't stop! I can even feel her when I'm busy (though not as much as they tend to rest when you're walking about). I don't remember DD being this active so I'm hoping that this one will still be a good baby like she was.

Last night I was lying in bed and the baby did something weird! I could feel her lying transverse at the bottom of my tummy. The top of my bump was flat, almost like normal and then I could feel her across the bottom. I think she had turned herself in towards my back as I could feel kicks and punches in my back but not tummy! It was bizarre!

Zero don't you bloody dare be off joining that March thread! your little girl is going to arrive in February, we've booked it Wink.

OP posts:
ZeroMinusZero · 23/11/2010 21:42

Awwwwwww aren't you lot nice? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to keep her in till March though. Her original EDD based on by LMP was 24th February and I have a theory that she'll be itching to escape by then. It depends who she takes after. If she's anything like DH she'll be desperate to get out and stretch her legs, but if she's more like me she'll be pretty happy all warm and cosy, relaxing inside and won't be in too much of a hurry.

WanderingSheep · 23/11/2010 22:02

My edd based on LMP would have been the 20th Feb but I'm certain that I ovulated later into my cycle (BFP showed up very faintly) so I knew that scan would put me back a week (due 26th). DD was only a day late so fingers crossed, this one might be a little earlier!

Glad to hear your news Jack, I have mine next week, and am not looking forward to it. Am now wondering why we can't eat cake too! Science schmience!

I had weird new aches and pains last night, like quite strong muscle type pain at the top of my thighs. Never had that before and it's gone now so not sure what it was, no doubt related to my odd sleeping positions, but still, odd!

Otherwise all is fine, am generally sleeping fine at the mo and yes my baby is very active at the moment as well. I guess they're taking this last opportunity to full explore their home before it gets too cramped!

angels1 · 24/11/2010 10:05

Morning,

Interesting what prof said about her boy being very active in tum and then a very active baby (was he the incredible never sleeping child prof?). So I wonder if there's a colleration between laid back baby in womb = laid back once born etc Hmm

Last night my tummy felt like the baby was actually banging/hammering madly on my tummy as if she thought if she did it enough she'd escape out Shock (if only it were that simple)

I admit Blush to some good old prodding of my tum last night to see if I could work out which bits were what and if I got any pokes back but then got odd crampy pain and got a bit worried Confused. All Ok this morning though.

Sounds like PDR had a bit of a scare yesterday.

Hope byron enjoys week end away :)

Good news on the negative GTT tests Grin

smallblackflowers · 24/11/2010 11:13

Hello all,

I've not been on for a few days as have my mum staying and have spent every spare minute shopping - and the rest of the time being completely exhausted Smile. At home waiting for a plumber at the moment - he was supposed to be here at 9.00am - what a surprise that he's not Hmm
Shopping will resume as soon as he has been and gone, hoefully soon, as need to get to sainsburys to take advantage of the 1/2 price offers before they run out at the end of the day.

I'm back to work tomorrow - feeling a bit nervous about it, but I don't know why, although I'm not going to be a martyr and will make sure I'm taking it as easy as I can do.

I'm 29 weeks and baby has been very active in the last few days - especially during the night last night, and I agree with deliaskis about it probably taking advantage of having a bit of space to move around in!

Ooh and I also bought that gorgeous navy striped outfit from Debenhams - they didn't have newborn so I got 0-3 months. We'll all have to post photos of our babas modelling the 'due Feb 2011 uniform' Smile

byronicheroine · 24/11/2010 11:37

Im 29 weeks tomorrow and also feeling loads of movement. the books say it happens more after a meal, but today it feels like it's been non-stop. I hope that doesn't mean the little bugger darling doesn't sleep...
What fun is going to spain if i can't eat chorizo or drink sangria?? The guy we're staying with has organised a night out for us so that should be interesting (i see the boys getting drunk and me going to sleep on a worryingly sticky sofa)!
Glad everyone's tests are going well, and PDR your hospital sounds great, overprotective is good - err on the safe side and all that

ledkr · 24/11/2010 15:31

Hi all.Hope youi are ok now pdr i dread ringing the hosp in case they incarcerate me again. I have been very breathless and in alot of pan for last 2 days but can defo link it to doing too much,i did cleaning and went to town and walked dd halfway to school as car in garage.Had a rest today so am feeling loads better, take heed ladies.
On the subject of spaces i did that very thing this week (parked in p and c) i figured i do have a child with me and she is casuing more discomfort than when she is in pram. I wouldnt use a disabled space but i must admit that as an spd sufferer who cant walk even a few minutes to collect my dd i do feel there is case for us to be given temporary blue badges, poor pdr and many are using crutches fgs.
Maybe we should start a mn campaign. :0

Tarlia · 24/11/2010 17:46

PDR so sorry, I missed your message, how are you feeling today?

Congrats on the GTT results, Jack. I have mine on the 16th, have my fingers crossed for good news too.

ledkr I agree with temp badges too - some councils do issue them, but you are in Kent arnt you? They choose not to Hmm. There is a post in pregnancy called something like 'disabled with spd' poor woman is in a wheelchair, in the Kent borough so has started a petition to try and change the policy for future Kent residents. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll grab the link, might be nice to drum up a few feb signatures.

ledkr · 24/11/2010 18:34

tarlia no im in Cheltenham.I wonder if its worth it.I am managing but the difference a badge would make for the next 10 wks would be immeasurable.Dd has dancing twice a week and there is nowhere to park nearby which doesnt involve a ten minute walk which leaves me in agony, and my main reason for not working is that there is just no parking nearby.Ill have a look for the thread.

PDR · 24/11/2010 19:32

Ughhhh! I have been in hospital since 4am Shock! I had abdo pains, blood, protein & white blood cells in my urine and high blood pressure Hmm so they kept me in all day running tests and I had some codeine for the pain. No conclusive diagnosis really and as the pain has gone now (ish - still feel rough but not enough to be in hospital) they let me home at about 5pm.

DH came to keep me company from about 3pm as they put me in a private room right at the end of the corridor and was a bit lonely! I slept loads though so grateful for the painkillers as wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Good luck at work tomorrow smallblackflowers :)

MizK · 24/11/2010 20:04

PDR sounds awful for you, hope you are on the mend now. I guess at least they took you in and have tested everything - its just annoying for you that they can't find what's causing the pain etc.

I do admit I am looking for a bit of advice if poss. I had a mw appt today and discovered that my BP is raised - altho in context it isnt high, its just high for me if that makes sense. Have been really exhausted lately so was expecting something to be amiss really. I work in a deli/coffee shop 5 days a week, doing 35 hours overall. Basically its quite demanding esp as fridges, microwave are at floor level so involves a lot of bending down when prepping food. I have asked several times to be allowed not to do this but in practice I still end up doing it all.MW has asked me to consider taking mat leave at 29 weeks - on one hand its really tempting as I'm knackered, but on the other it will mean less paid time with baby after its born. Am not returning to work after baby, so am wondering what to do.

Sorry for lengthy post, but RL friends/family are all basically telling me to do whatever I feel, I'd just like another pg lady's perspective really?

PDR · 24/11/2010 20:27

MizK I suffered from high BP at the end of my last pregnancy and I was admitted for 1 week before DS was born. It was pretty miserable as they did not want to induce me until the last minute becuase the labour ward was so busy.

When were you planning on taking your ML from if BP was ok?

Did midwife suggest any extra monitoring for BP? I know I went every bloody day to have it checked for a few weeks!

I would speak to work again if I were you and explain the effect that all the rushing about/bending etc is having. I work in a hotel and if anyone in the restaurant dept is pregnant they only continue there as long as they feel comfortable - then they move to the office. Have you had a risk assesment done? If they can't find you suitable alternative work then they have to suspend you on full pay. They can only force you to start ML from 36 weeks I beleive.

Hope that helps!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/11/2010 22:21

Have they done a risk assessment at work for your pregnancy?

From HSE:

Employers should conduct a specific risk assessment on receipt of written notification from an employee that she is pregnant, has given birth in the last six months or is breastfeeding. This must take into account any advice provided by the woman's health professional.

If any risks are identified then employers must take action to remove, reduce or control the risk. If the risk cannot be removed employers must:

Action 1
temporarily adjust her working conditions and/or hours of work; or if that is not possible:

Action 2
offer her suitable alternative work (at the same rate of pay) if available; or if that is not feasible:

Action 3
suspend her from work on paid leave for as long as necessary to protect her health and safety and that of her child.

I would start making noises about that if I were you.

wigglesrock · 25/11/2010 08:22

MizK You have my sympathies, I work for a bar/restaurant type place and its very difficult now in work. I am 28 weeks and my only saving grace is that I finish on Christmas Eve Grin I work 20 hours over 3 days and a night. I'm not lifting anything, but bending etc. I think the worst thing is the sheer physicality (?) of it. On my feet for the full shift - I have and am still suffering from very bad vomiting and my midwife felt that it was because I wasn't eating enough while in work and on my feet for too long.

Every time I see my midwife I can see her getting ready to make noises about work but I have been lucky so far, was signed off from about now with dd2 because of physical aspect of previous job. I haven't had a Health & Safety Assessment either and to be honest had such a kerfuffle re my right to accrue annual leave while on maternity leave that I can't be arsed to even talk to them anymore. They're being a bit ignorant quiet re the whole baby thing.

americanexpat · 25/11/2010 11:53

PDR - I hope you're feeling better today. Is there any follow-up planned since there's no clear diagnosis?

MizK and wigglesrock - Shame on your employers! Definitely kick up a fuss and demand a risk assessment. You shouldn't be bullied into taking maternity leave before you're ready because your employer is not making any effort to accommodate you.

PDR · 25/11/2010 12:07

americanexpat - no they said just to keep my midwife appt for Monday and she will check BP and dip urine again.

Had a good night's sleep last night and DH packed DS off to nursery this morning and my Mum is collecting him later so am resting all day. Had a nice bath this morning then dozed in bed :)

MizK and wiggles I can't beleive they expect you to be on your feet all the time at this stage. Even my employer would not expect this and they are pretty crap!!!! Definately kick up a fuss!

WanderingSheep · 25/11/2010 12:38

Hello Smile!

PDR - I hope you're feeling better! Must be scary in hospital Sad.

MizK - I can't believe your employers are still letting you do all that bending. I would definitely start making noises about risk assessments etc.

Has anyone else used the MN phone version yet? It is weird! I was doing perfectly well with the normal version - this feels weird!

My baby has been a lot quieter since my post the other night about her never stopping! Hmm I can still feel movements but not as hard. I think she has moved into a different position and is facing my back or something!

We're off to a wedding this weekend - spent last night tantruming because everything looks hideous on! Sad I look like a whale!

OP posts:
ZeroMinusZero · 25/11/2010 13:05

Sheep I'm on the phone version and am finding it funny, but I'm hoping they'll gradually improve it over time... I hope, as it was fine on my phone before, really, except for posting my posts twice all the time, which it hasn't done yet with the new site.

And although you might feel like a whale, you can bet that soooooo many people will come up and comment on how beautiful and blooming you look. So enjoy it now, because when you've had baby everyone's attention will be on him or her and not you any more!

In other news, I had to reassure a friend today that my baby won't drown if I have a water birth Hmm

PDR · 25/11/2010 13:08

Zero LOL at baby drowning! I took DS to baby swimming lessons from about 5 months and he would happily go under the water much to DH's Shock!!!!

supadupa900 · 25/11/2010 13:19

PDR Almost the exact same thing happened to me early hours of monday morning. All fine now, and MW has just been to double check. Felt a bit foolish going in, but they said it was the right thing to do. Have since convinced myself that it's just growing pains, as I seem to almost be able to see the bump expanding.

Hope everyone else is coping with this weather. My boiler packed up nearly 3 weeks ago, and waiting for the plumber to come and install a new one- I guess this must be their busiest time of year! Had a little sprinkle of snow this morning, which is unusual, as I'm on the coast, and very rarely get it.

Just noticed a room with a view is on the TV, so going to settle down with a cup of something warm, and cwch on the sofa with the dog!
