Cannot believe doctors service so bad! So you can only call in to ask them to call you at a certain time Confused how silly! At ours you can ring them anytime and the doc will ring you back. There is a "duty doc" (or doctor of the day as I call them) whose sole job it is to call people and sort out what they need ie. ask them to come in if needed, write a script, sick note or whatever.

I would ring back and say you would like to speak to the doctor urgently. You shouldn't have to cancel your appointment am Angry on your behalf!

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 08/12/2010 20:02

I think being a doctors receptionists must be a really shit job as they're all so bloody rude! Angry actually, I tell a lie - there are a couple at my surgery who are lovely.

At my Drs it drives me mad that I can't ring up for a repeat prescription, you have to go into the surgery. The whole waiting room can hear you order it which is rubbish if you have to get something that you would rather people didn't know about! I often see people I know in the surgery!

Not much to report here! DD did her play this morning - she was funny! She hardly sang a word, just stood there chewing on her shepherd's crook! She did remember to say her line though. I think it was supposed to be a group line that all the shepherds said but she was the only one who said it [proud] and she did some good dancing at the end. She kept standing there waving and smiling at me and DH as we were sat at the front!

Anyone else been watching Coronation Street? I just sat there and sobbed when Ashley got squashed Blush DH couldn't stop laughing at me!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 08/12/2010 20:16

Ah, wandering, very sweet image of your lo in her nativity play Smile can't wait to see mine in a few years!

I watched corrie too, I haven't watched it for years except when visiting my mum as she's addicted to it. It was really very good and I'm going to watch the live one tomorrow.

I'm sitting down after sorting out all the new born clothes ready to wash, cannot believe how much stuff I have now. Think I may have gone over the top with vest type babygros. I got paranoid about having enough as I know they're the one thing guaranteed to get covered in poo! I bought loads from ebay though for £1.04 so at least they haven't broken the bank (they may break the chest of drawers though Grin).

ledkr I'm shocked Wink that the prof may have deserted us! What is this other thread she loiters around on and how can we tempt her back? I may have some spare jelly tots in the cupboard to use as bait!

ZeroMistletoeZeroTinsel · 08/12/2010 20:23

Wow, so it's not just me who has an evil receptionist? Why are they all such incompetent bitches? They'd be sacked if they worked in any other industry! Angels I thought I had had a bad one but yours just takes the biscuit, you really must complain. I hate them so much Xmas Angry

I used to scoff at you losers with bladder problems as mine has always been made of iron, but pride comes before a fall because recently mine has been getting... erm, less strong. In fact, earlier today I lost it completely while coughing Xmas Blush

But we must all console ourselves with the thought that festive times are almost upon us Xmas Smile

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 08/12/2010 20:56

I feel your pain Zero! I had to wear a sanitary towel the other day as I have a bad cough ATM and my pelvic floor failed a little Xmas Blush. Note to self: must do pelvic floor exercises!

40Weeks · 08/12/2010 21:24

Evening ladies

Hope you are all pm. Apologies for the radio silence, have lost track a bit of what's been gong on so hope I haven't missed anything major. All ok here, just been busy. Bump is getting big, lots of kicking and had mw yesterday and all was ok. Shattered in general but I know I am in good company here, as we all are! Dh watching The apprentice, I must be the only person in Uk who finds it tedious :-(

Anyone else been covered in snow last week? We had to dig our way out!

Big hugs to you all x

40Weeks · 08/12/2010 21:25

Oh Zero and Wandering, I'm hearing you!

wigglesrock · 08/12/2010 21:55

40 weeks I'm not an Apprentice fan- hence me being on MN at the same time every Wed night Grin

We've been covered in ice and snow since Mon, still can get out but my Mum is having fits about me going outside and slipping. Have resorted to the behaviour of my old 15 year old self, throwing eyes up to heaven, tutting loudly etc.

Mini wiggles still putting cartoon figures in the crib, Daddy Pig and George now "minding" baby Cheeses!! Although they are starting to get vvvv excited about Santa. DD1 has her nativity play next week, am now slightly nervous about taking dd2 with me as I get the feeling she may start pre-emting other childrens lines and shouting them out from the audience Blush

giraffeshatewinter · 08/12/2010 22:07

An NCT one - I worried beforehand it would be a bit hippyish, but not at all - v pro epidural if you need one, spent lots of time talking about possible interventions, and said breastfeed if you can, and even if you only do it once, it's brilliant. And I met some nice mums-to-be, too. Heartily recommend it : )

PinkiePoo · 09/12/2010 07:16

Ahhh ladies, I am so sorry for getting you all worried Xmas Blush..not long after i posted, she was kicking me LOADS. And your right, a bath helped. She kept me up alot of the night with her moving and kicking, but i don't mind in fact i love it!!

It is so scary.....but thankyou SO much for the advice and support and concern. And sorry for being lame at replying, been very busy with work (and being kicked).

Hope all is well with everyone else? Not long until we can seriously stuff our faces with Turkey and chocolates!

Anyone else measuring bigger? I am 28+5 but measuring 30cm!! Arggghh! I feel huge too!!

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 09/12/2010 09:45

Ah, Pinkie there you are! Xmas Wink Glad all is well! The measurements are pretty inaccurate so don't worry about measuring a little bigger. I was measuring 27 cms on Thursday at 27+5 but I have known women who have measured bigger and had smaller babies and women who have measured smaller and had bigger babies! They thought that my nephew was going to be massive with a big head - he wasn't big at all at 7 lbs 11 ozs and he didn't have a big head! My SIL's baby was predicted to be smaller than average but wasn't. My niece was also 7 lbs 11!

Deliaskis · 09/12/2010 10:06

Morning ladies, glad to read all the good news, and Angry to read about rude receptionists and nast workplaces!

I had my singing group Christmas concert last night which was good but hard work. SPD pain is worse again this morning, really need to go and get a support band but can't get to the shops until the weekend and it strikes me as something I would need to try? What do people think about taking 'sick leave' to go and seek out remedies/solutions to medical problems? I feel a bit like it would be 'cheating', as I would need to go to shops rather than a pharmacist, but really, if I had a Drs apt and prescription, then I wouldn't feel bad at all about picking up the prescription. I think I might be worrying too much about appearing to use pg as an excuse, because I really do need this.

Anyway, on another note, anyone else feel like their bump has grown massively in the past week? Mine seems to be accumulating by a magnitude each day!

D

wigglesrock · 09/12/2010 10:26

Deliaskis I feel my bump has got huge in the past week, in fact I know it has, I bought a couple of tops two weeks ago and they were fine if a bit big, I am practically straining out of one of them now!! Also my 5 year old commented on how big the baby bump had got yesterday Blush.

Agree with wandering measurements can be a bit off - with dd1 I was told she was quite big ie 8-9lbs, she was 6lbs10, with dd2 the midwife thought she was small, she was 8lb8!!!

Glad you are getting kicked Pinkie Grin

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 09/12/2010 10:51

My bump is big! The lollipop lady at school keeps saying, "ooh, you've grown! How long have you got left?" Xmas Grin although I think my maternity makes me look bigger than I am plus there is the fact that I wear one of DH's really really really thick jumper underneath (he got it last Xmas and he hates it) it has fur inside Xmas Hmm but it's so warm I wouldn't let him throw it away! Please note that I never wear it in public - just under my coat!

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 09/12/2010 10:52

Just wanted to add that he didn't get the jumper off me!

PDR · 09/12/2010 10:56

Glad you are ok Pinkie!

I have also noticed I have grown and tops I could get away with before are now a bit too tight. I have ordered some tops which are due to arrive today/tomo as fed up of wearing the same few things over and over! DH's work do is next Saturday so I am currently deciding what I should wear to that!

Am off for lunch at my best friends in a bit but DS has just decided he needs a nap so got to wait at least an hour or he'll be intolerable when I wake him up!

Gosh cannot beleive how close Christmas is now! The past few weeks seem to have flown by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grannyapple · 09/12/2010 11:07

Hi ladies-yup defo feel huge this week more than most!

Nct class was good....lots of normal people there and wasn't (at least not yet!) too pro natural & no drugs! Met some really nice people actually..

Can't believe xmas will soon be over & babies will be here soon!!

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 09/12/2010 11:24

My goodness me! Yes, I've just thought that some of us will be having our babies next month! Not me though as I'm at the end of Feb but exciting to think that some will be arriving very soon!

giraffeshatewinter · 09/12/2010 12:27

Haha, I'm due 4 Feb, but hoping for a late- January stork delivery. They induce at 10 days here, so if Baby decides not to play, will be a Valentine's baby!

americanexpat · 09/12/2010 12:38

I'm also due the 4th but I'm counting on this baby being late so not hoping for a January visit from the stork!

I saw the midwife today for the 32 week check. Everything looks fine, there was no sugar in my urine (small amount last time but collected after breakfast) and heard nothing about my blood results so assuming everything is normal. Baby is head down so I suppose it's his bum I can feel pressing against the top of my bump.

I forgot who posted their waist measurement earlier but I'm also 44 inches over my clothing. I usually forget about TPT but I wonder how long a square of TP is? Hopefully more than 4 inches!

santaslittleheroine · 09/12/2010 12:56

Yep, I just realised that I'm due 2 months tomorrow. Gasp. Have to get christmas out the way first and then I can concentrate on baby stuff.
I have a MW appointment tomorrow, and they said they take bloods again - does anyone know what they are testing for this time? Just hormone levels etc.?
By the way - people who come on this thread to moan (and I include myself) - - -

  • - - surely that's what it's for? And to make yourself feel better/get it off your chest/ get great advice/have some sympathy at least?
Don't be Blush I think we all do it. Who wants to belong to a thread where everyone is having an amazing time and knitting montessori coordinating nursery accessories. Obviously that's what i do when I'm feeling up to it.... but the rest of the time I drink tea, eat chocolate and complain about heartburn.... oh. Xmas Grin
ledkrsbellyislikesantas · 09/12/2010 12:57

Hello all.Glad you ok pinkie and having the si kicked out of you.
Went food shopping this am and had to go alone as dd ill so dh looked after her.It will be may last time,it was really dificult to bend into the trolley to get the last bits out.
Morrisons was full of morons too,all in a rush couldnt care less about anyone else just ploughing thru with their trolleys. The bloke in front was giving me evils as i was putting my shopping on the conveyer belt behind his.Dont know whether he thinks you have to wait until hes packed his.I kept thinking"you dont really want to start on me as i am tired thirsty and have late pregnancy rage!!It was also difficult to lift all the bags out of the trolley into the boot.
Loving the thought of yet another nativity to watch. I puked all thru ds3's as i was having chemo and missed dd1 as i was in hospital Xmas Sad so i am due one.

ledkrsbellyislikesantas · 09/12/2010 13:09

Gosh i just did some working out too and will be 32 wks on sat so with c section a wk early i will be having baby 7wks on monday.Argh.....rushes off to start organising baby stuff.

ZeroMistletoeZeroTinsel · 09/12/2010 13:13

Not being able to put your stuff behind someone else's at the supermarket, I haven't heard of that one before ledkr, it's almost a shame he didn't say anything because then he would have got to experience a nice dose of pregnancy rage Xmas Wink

I have a question for everyone who has had kids before. We are invited to a wedding in April that we very, very much want to go to but we're having a lot of trouble figuring out how the hell it's going to work with a two month old baby. It's in London so we've got to get public transport there and then stay the night at a friend's house afterwards and I'm a bit worried about how we're going to manage.

My main questions are:

  1. Is there any alternative to having baby in a moses basket during the day? We will have a car seat but I assume she can't stay in it for more than a couple of hours because she won't be flat. I am happy to carry her in a sling, but is it naive to think she could spend all day with me on a sling?

  2. Is two months definitely too young to leave her with my parents for 24+ hours?

  3. Has anyone ever tried to pull off this sort of stunt before? How did you manage?

I may be being too neurotic about this, but any advice would be very gratefully received Xmas Smile

EauRudolph · 09/12/2010 13:18

I think having a baby in a sling all day is do-able, you can always swap with your DH for a bit if you get tired. Make sure it's a decent sling and you know how to adjust it easily etc. I'm sure there will be lots of people at the wedding that will want a cuddle too!

Personally I would not leave a 2 mo baby for 24 hrs, especially if you are BF but it's different for everyone. You might want to plan for both eventualities and then see how you feel, I wanted to leave DD with my mum for the day when she was 3 months to go to the race of champions but I changed my mind when she was born Grin
