Afternoon all, haven't read all the pages as I just can't keep up. But I do hope everyone's check ups and test etc are going as smoothly as poss.

Had my 28 week check up today, midwife said any issues see the doctor, doctor said see the midwife...!! All fine which is great.

Snow snow snow...hope everyone is wrapping up warm and keeping clear of non-gritted roads / pavements.

I need some advice on port wine stains..? Has or does anyone have any advice on what to say to a new Mama and Papa about their baby having over 50% of it's wee body covered with a port wine stain inc DC's face? I know it's best to ask lots of helpful questions but at the moment they are still in shock and I don't wish to not bring it up nor make them upset by chatting about it. Yet I have to see the child at some point. Yet what the heck do I say? Poor wee mite...!

Thanks x

knittakid · 30/11/2010 17:50

Prof how could you!

earouge according to my DH pregnant women are even acquited of murder quite often... poor thing, he's being so understanding, this morning (TMI alert) I ran the bath (which we share one after the other in order to not feel guilty about having a bath... how disgusting you might be saying, sorry) and said to him that he had to go first because I was not ready, nor was he, but did it anyway, and just 2 min later I need the toilet really really badly, can't cope with it, need to go, even baby is kicking like crazy, so have to ask him to get out! which he does and not even mentions again... and that's just not going into my moods!

PDR I see now why you were such an expert in MA, will you get that or not even?

Highland sorry can't think of anything, perhaps they'll talk about it when they are ready?

PDR · 30/11/2010 17:55

knitta yes I will get MA - would have got SMP if not for the 3 weeks unpaid holiday I took but as I only work 2 days a week it works out pretty much the same so not really lost out there. Have totally lost out on SSP though and have never taken more than the odd day off sick ever before! Angry But we are lucky in that we can afford it and DH can afford DS's nursery fees so it could be worse! Dread to think what we'd do if not!!!

Sent off form for HIP grant today - at least I will get that :)

ledkr · 30/11/2010 18:08

With all the grumpy talk i thought we could cheer ourselves up with our irrational and unreasonable annoyances.
I have told dh to wear boxers to bed as he may get wee drips off his willy on the sheets!Hasnt bothered me for 4 yrs and now it does. Now come on that was a big confession surely you have others.

EauRouge · 30/11/2010 19:42

Oh crikey, anything and everything is annoying me! I got grouchy with DH for teaching DD to say 'toilet' and then couldn't explain why I didn't like the word so got even more grouchy Blush

debka · 30/11/2010 19:56

Funny everyone is talking about being so grumpy, I am HORRIBLE today. Have been fairly normal up until now but I can't stand DH or DD today, just want to leave them both and go somewhere quiet, clean and tidy for A Long Time.

Am an ungrateful cow cos DH is taking me to Bruges tomorrow for my birthday treat- just for the day but it will be the first time I'll have left DD. My mum is having her and she will go to bed at her house too. It'll be a trial run of when I have the next one!

knitta why did DH have to get out of the bath so you could have a wee?

Trojan1970 · 30/11/2010 20:54

Hello Ladies - long time no post. I will attempt to catch up over the last few pages, but I hope you are all ok? I had bloods, anti D clinic and saw a consultant today and I'm bloody well fed up of being prodded, poked and having needles stuck in me!

Can I ask if any second (or more) timers have previously used an electric breast pump? I used an Avent manual one last time and didn't really persevere with it. I am hoping to do better this time and was hoping for some tips on electric ones. Sorry if this has been covered in the last 20 or 30 pages!!!

PDR · 30/11/2010 21:56

No advice re breastpump I'm afraid -I used a manual Closer to Nature one last time and was ok... Got an electric one this time same brand but obv no idea if it's any good!!!!

In a strange turn if events I won the raffle at the shopping evening! £30 beauty treatment voucher! As I had bought all 3 tickets in my name technically all my tickets won but I gave the other 2 prizes to my friends :-) All in all a good night!!!!
Got GTT tomo at 8am - eeeek!

Grannyapple · 30/11/2010 22:46

Hello ladies-bit of a rant coming in....why when there has been plenty of warning do certain councils still not think to grit the roads when they get snow?! Took 3 hrs to get home tonight (usu less than 1 hour....all public transport)...... But had to walk 1 mile home in a foot of snow, up a stupid big hill & carrying a stupid laptop, because roads like ice rinks & buses off!! Needless to say back is killing me now...think I might be sleeping sitting up!

On the plus side, working from home tomorrow-woo hoo Wink

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/11/2010 23:53

Real relief to know I'm not the only grump. Was in a foul mood earlier and even moaned at OH for a mess in the kitchen that he hadn't even made yet. Thing is, one moment I'm irritated with everyone and everything (threw my socks at OH and told him to put them on me as it was his fault I couldn't do it the other day) and the next I'm in tears and worrying about everyone. I think that it's down to mother nature giving us a triple whammy of pmt to make up for no periods for nine months, maybe contractions are nine years months worth of serious period pains saved up? Think you can tell I've never done this before, I'll probably be praying they were just like period pains when the time comes Grin

Snow is awful down here tonight (south east), have decided that I'm not leaving the house now unless it's on fire. Meant to see paediatrician tomorrow but not sure our old car will make it to hospital and don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

EauRouge, great thread on childbirth re TENS, was wondering about this.

Good luck PDR for tomorrow, just keep thinking about the beauty treatments to get you through. Sure it'll be fine though. I read somewhere today that someone was just given 2 cups of lucozade to drink, not so bad.

Trojan You're a brave woman with electric pump, for some reason they make me feel all funny. Had a look at manual ones in Boots the other day and even though I know I'll need one they make me feel sort of cow like!

Have we stopped TPT now? I suppose we weren't growing that much but think we will in the coming weeks... not sure how though!

janedoe25 · 01/12/2010 08:52

hi ladies, the snow here is still falling thick and fast we also have about 2 foot of the white stuff! The schools are closed and i have no mindees today so a wee surprise day off- yay. I have my 28 wk app with midwife today hope she makes it to surgery ok as i had to cancel my consultant app on mon because of the snow.
Oh Ouch ouch ouch, i used hair removing cream on my legs last night and have taken a bad reaction to it, they are covered in a stingy firey rash. I used that brand often pre pregnancy and never had a problem!

knittakid · 01/12/2010 09:18

debka if it'd been just a wee he'd not needed to get out! Grin

needto was wondering about TPT too. I am absolutely huge right now, I am sure I am bigger than I should, can't believe that still have 3 months to go!!!!!

Is anybody elses' bump really itchy?

PDR really good luck today.

Granny how awfull last night, hills kill me right now, so can't imagine one with snow...

ZeroMistletoeZeroTinsel · 01/12/2010 09:19

Hey everyone, I'm struggling to keep up with the thread these days, even though I was off yesterday as school was closed and I am off again today, I have been trying to get up to date with marking so I haven't had much of a rest. DH got into work yesterday but said that coming back was a bit like which makes me very glad I'm not a commuter, especially not a pregnant one.

DH is at home with me right now because there aren't any trains to London but he is a bit miserable as we're worried about losing pay and he's worried about his work getting chaotic when he goes back.

I must say though, I haven't been affected toooooo much by mood swings. Unless I just haven't noticed, but if I have been a bitch, no one has mentioned it to me. Maybe they're just being nice.

highlandgirl I have no experience of knowing anyone with port wine stain issues, but my experience with things like this is that it can be worse if you go out of your way to not mention it. But then, everyone's different and this couple could be sensitive about it so I really don't know. Sorry, that's not very useful is it.

Interesting what Prof was saying about someone on another thread popping already... I wonder if any of us will go before Christmas... hopefully not, obviously, but I think I would be pretty happy to go at around 37/38 weeks... I really don't like the idea of going to 41 or 42 Confused

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 09:56

Morning all,

We've got well over 20 cms of snow here now and still snowing. I'm suppose to have a mw appointment at lunchtime but am debating cancelling - would I be mad to even attempt to drive there given I live on a country road with no gritting?? I keep trying to ring mws but always engaged so can't even leave a message Confused. Not sure what to do now.

Grannyapple · 01/12/2010 10:30

zero lol at that video-wasn't quite that bad for me last night, but bad enough. I've been in shibuya in Tokyo on those trains & it is mental the way they actually cram u all in-crazy!

Yeah same here, no trains into London-think I'll be working from home tomorrow at this rate too!!

To anyone with mw appts-unless u've been concerned about high blood pressure or anything I wouldn't risk it in this weather....

PDR · 01/12/2010 10:55

Just back from GTT and not too bad - did have to drink evil sugar solution no lucazade sadly! They said I will hear something in a couple of days if there is a problem. Just had a sandwich as needed some carbs!

Our surgery is fab and there's a little area screened off with change station, toys and comfy sofas etc so I sat there and wrote all my Christmas cards :) The nurses kept joking they would bring me theirs to do!

My GP came to chat with me as well and said he had been thinking about me since getting the reports that I had been in hospital Shock and wanted to sign me off work for the rest of my pregnancy Shock so it looks like I won't be going back to work at all. He is most fabulous - it's a small village surgery where everyone knows their patients and I really like the continuity of care.

Hope all those with snow are wrapped up warm / staying indoors! Not a flake here and didn't even need to de-ice the car at 8am this morning!

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 11:08

PDR small village GP surgery AND special sofa area?? I want a surgery like that!! Eventually got through to mws office and no mws made it to hospital today anyway, so appointment cancelled.

Just went out in garden and snow is deeper than my wellies - can't actually ever remember it being that deep. Just hoping it doesn't last too long or I'll run out of food!

PDR · 01/12/2010 11:18

OMG can't imagine so much snow! It hardly ever snows here as we are on the Coast...

Gosh NO midwives! I hope noone goes into labour today as they might end up with a home birth...?!

Yes the surgery building is strangely big actually - not sure why - there are 5 GPs so not sure if this is classed as small or not? I know my GP only works 3 days/week as is SAHD the other days / his wife is a Consultant at the hosp and works 2 days/week with 3 days as SAHM. Everyone has their own room though complete with family photos etc! I know some GPs I've been with have not been like this at all! Anyone else love their doctors?

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 11:38

oh, PDR, panic not - should have explained - the hospital where I have my check ups is a small cottage hospital type where you just have appointments so mws arn't actually helping those in labour there. Have to go to the big and further away hospital when give birth. Phew - that would be worrying if no mws managed to get to hospital where people were having babies Hmm

I'm feeling very miserable as trapped at home and seem to be coming down with the bug DH had last week which I thought/hoped I'd escaped :( No one will let me futher than the garden as they keep worrying I'll slip/fall.

EauRouge · 01/12/2010 11:42

My doc surgery is nice although luckily I've not had many reasons to visit Grin it sounds a similar size to yours, I live in a large-ish village though so I don't know if the docs know everyone (they know DH though and refer to him as 'bat man', long story involving an injured bat and some rabies jabs!)

I had a huge meltdown this morning just as I was taking DD to playgroup, I misjudged a space and knocked a recently-watered pot plant over, drenching myself and spraying potting compost all over the hallway. Cue me bursting into tears saying how much I hate being fat and poor DD saying 'what's wrong, mummy?' and bursting into tears as well. Poor, poor DH Grin

PDR · 01/12/2010 11:45

I know what you mean about feeling trapped in the house angels even without snow I feel like this quite a lot.

Have you written your Christmas cards? I am trying to keep busy! I am going to start wrapping some presents this afternoon as we have relatives overseas and I need to start posting stuff next week!

PDR · 01/12/2010 11:47

EauRouge glad it's not just me bursting into tears! Hope you have hard floors / got compost out of carpet!

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 11:56

PDR I'm busying myself by continuing to try and write schemes of work for my mat supply teacher. It's so dull though and takes yonks and isn't good when your brain isn't working too well/feeling under the weather. Christmas cards sounds like much more fun, but I've had to save that joy until after I get school work done or I'll never bother finishing miss my self imposed end of term deadline.

eaurouge I feel your pain with banging the car into things. A couple of weeks ago I slightly scraped tapped a car parked in front of mine in the road outside when trying to get out of the space. Didn't think it was much of a problem (just a little tap) so drove off but once I got to wherever I was driving to I noticed a bit of blue paint from said car on mine Blush. By the time I got home car had dissapeared and I felt terrible. At the time I blamed the other car for parking far too close to me though, making it impossible to get out without tapping it Confused

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/12/2010 12:01

Morning everyone, hope those of you that are snowed in are putting your feet up and those of you that have to go out in this awful weather are coping okay.

re the lack of midwives, I've had the night from hell with BHs and diarrhea, was really wondering if it was the start of something but seems to have tailed off now. Was pacing the flat until half five this morning. They're not too painful but really tight. I phoned my mw and the receptionist said she's not in today so I called the community mw base and couldn't get through for 2 hours (no one answering the phone and no answer machine). Was eventually put through to labour ward who were really reassuring and told me to try and rest, take some paracetamol and call them back in an hour. Thing is, it seems to have stopped now, not sure what it was all about and feel a bit stupid. We're snowed in here so not sure what would happen if things were serious...

PDR Glad your appt went well, how long till you find out the results? Oh and btw, I'm very Envy at your surgery, sounds fab!

PDR · 01/12/2010 12:33

NeedtoSleep sympathy re BH and diarreah - sounds similar to what I had but went on for days so good sign it has eased off now. I think at this stage you can just ring the Labour Ward at any time as every time I rang the doc when I was ill I was referred to Labour Ward straight away Hmm

The nurse said I should hear something in a couple of days if there is a problem - if I don't hear anything then assume everything is fine.

I have wrapped 6 presents :)

Am procrastinating really as need to ring work and tell them the good news that I am signed off for good!
