Thanks PDR, the mw on the labour ward was great, just called her back and she asked if I'm comfortable enough to stay at home (YES, IT"S AWFUL OUT THERE!), I said yes as they are only happening every half hour or so now. She said that if they get stronger again then I'll have to go in for a check.

Did your stomach sort of turn to rock with them? My OH was amazed at how hard my stomach is getting with them. Real contractions start from the top of the bump though don't they? My pain is all low down and not unbearable, more like pressure.

Good for you at being signed off, take it easy though and remember you're signed off for a reason Wink

PDR · 01/12/2010 13:11

No mine didn't go all hard but that is typical of BH I think? Not sure about real contractions starting from the top though - when in labour with DS I felt the early contractions as back-ache / period type cramps quite low down. I could be odd though?!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/12/2010 13:34

My real contractions seemed to be all over, TBH. I don't think I'd have said they started from the top.

wigglesrock · 01/12/2010 14:25

Need to sleep my tummy was rock hard for about 2 days at the weekend, really strange, no BH but. With dd1 I just felt really uncomfy when contractions started and they stopped and started for ages until we were ready to go. She was back to back, so that was a whole different agony kettle of fish Grin With dd2 I was induced and it was bliss compared to dd1 Smile 2 hours of contractions, out you pop.

Braved Christmas shopping this morning with my mum!! Seriously thought I was going to strangle her in Debs, how one woman can spend 30 mins looking for a gift for someone she doesn't even like is beyond me. Although got some nice tops in Red Herring so feeling vaguely human again.

TallulahBelly14 · 01/12/2010 14:28

I'm not really sure if I'm having Braxton Hicks yet - should there be a very clear difference between the baby pushing / kicking (hard) and BH?

Whatever's happening, it's near the top of my bump, but I wouldn't say it was necessarily painful...?

PDR · 01/12/2010 15:24

Tallulah some people don't get BH at all (or at least don't feel them) - IME they are more painful than a kick and last longer as well....

PDR · 01/12/2010 15:50

Question What does everyone want for Christmas?

I am finding it hard not to want things for the baby / maternity clothes / boring stuff...

DH has already bought me something which "I will use every day" Hmm from an electronics store so need to give some guidance for other stuff asap!

geekygiraffe · 01/12/2010 15:55

Hello!
Oh, good question re Christmas. I just want baby stuff too!! Have asked for GAP voucher so can get sth in the sale that is non-maternity...
As for BH, I have them really occasionally (if I am really active - explains why they're rare perhaps Shock) and they frickin' hurt - enough to take my breath away, but only last a few seconds. God knows how I'll cope in labour!
Been for my 31 week check up. Baby fine and in 'lovely position'. I however am anaemic, apparently, which explains exhaustion... and makes me feel less guilty about having done NO work whatsoever today. Got some liquid iron to take, sounds vile. Off out for pizza tonight, may go mad and have red wine (must be full of iron...).
Hope all you snowed-in people aren't going too crazy!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/12/2010 16:28

Oooh, geeky, great minds and all that, I've asked OH for an IOU for after the birth so that I can get something non pregnancy related as all I think about is at the moment is boring stuff like maternity pads and things for the nursery (if I got mat pads in my stocking I don't think i'd be that amused Wink).Sorry about the anaemia, hope the liquid stuff does the job and you have more energy soon, beware the black poos though! Enjoy your pizza tonight and yes, I'm sure red wine is full of iron, just like stout Grin

PDR sorry to lower the tone but something electrical that you'll use everyday? Not sure you'll be in the mood Wink Grin I wonder what it could be?!!

These BHs are nothing like kicks, they really are like my bump has been filled with concrete and I can feel DS really clearly when they happen. I really thought that real contractions started at the top of the bump, am a bit Hmm now. Anyway, they have eased off and I don't 'feel' like it's the real thing and every book says you'll just know when it's time. This morning (about 3am) they were about every 15 mins and I was panicking a bit but they didn't get any worse or closer together than that, then they spread to every 30 mins. I pray think it was a practice run.

knittakid · 01/12/2010 16:29

oh that's interesting geeky I thought BH were supposed to go away with excercise, and I only get 'a pain' when walking really fast and already a bit tired, so didn't think this might be BH, but it is just like them: my tummy goes hard and hurts, then it just goes away.

PDR · 01/12/2010 16:31

I know NeedToSleep I have no idea what he has bought - although I'm not sure Maplin stock what you're thinking of Wink so we can rule that out! It's probably something he would like!!!

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 16:31

Well, I don't know if it's boring or not, but things on my christmas wish list include stocking up on my fave smellies (won't be able to afford the nice expensive ones I like once on mat money), a new digital radio (old one is on its last legs) and a pocket camcorder and editing software (so I can compile all sorts of baby milestones on film). I have my bday a few days before chrimbo so it's a bit of a double whammy. Think this year I'll be lucky to even get a birthday cake though as mum (who usually does the honours) is moving house the week before so will probably have more important other things on her mind Hmm

Looking forward to the festive emoticons - can't be long now Grin

needtosleep have the BHs calmed down now?

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 16:35

xposted and just LOL at needtosleeps comments re electrical devises and finding duvet pads in her stocking Grin

Maybe it's an alarm clock PDR (Although having a baby makes me think you won't be needing one of those!!)

knittakid · 01/12/2010 16:43

sorry cross-posted and clicked 'post' early.

PDR perhaps a robot that does all the household stuff?

geeky hope the iron makes you feel better!

My present is going to be a 6 week woodworking course, including materials, starting on... January!

PDR · 01/12/2010 16:47

Yes knitta maybe its one of those vacuum robots? That would be fab!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/12/2010 17:02

Oh, and knitta, I just did TPT (or TPW now) and I have grown! 8 sheets now! Hooray!

geekygiraffe · 01/12/2010 17:02

needtosleep and PDR That was my first (dirty-minded) thought too!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/12/2010 17:10

wow, knitta that course sounds fab, I've always had this dream of making my own table (dovetail joints and all!). Dp you have anything in particular you want to make?

angels (love your topical name!) the BHs have calmed down a lot now, just tightening every so often but no pain. Must sleep tonight because night time tv is RUBBISH, let this be a warning to everyone! I do not want to watch an old episode of 'house doctor' from 1992 or something at 4am..... I hope you're not feeling too bad and hope you've been resting Smile

a robot to do the housework would be great, fingers crossed for you there PDR!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/12/2010 17:43

First time round I didn't have any BH, then second time I had two or three what-I-assume-were-BH contractions around 36-37 weeks, and then three or four goodness-knows-what-kind of contractions the afternoon before I went into labour properly. They all felt much the same to me.

wigglesrock · 01/12/2010 17:55

snowangels my parents bought me a camcorder when dd1 was born and it was a really good present, when dd2 was born they bought me a new camera, also fab with new baby. Me & Mr Wiggles aren't electronically minded (insert any joke you want Grin) so it was brillant having someone else do all the work research!!

My mum is getting me a voucher for my hairdresser this Christmas, not sure what Mr Wiggles is getting me, we do surprises!!

snowangels1 · 01/12/2010 18:02

oh wiggles DH and I definately don't do suprises (well, I do suprises for him, he has to stick to the list). The one year he deviated from my list I ended out with 2 hats (I never really wear hats Confused) and a nightie with a picture of cats on (I hate cats). I did a very good appreciative thank you but I was a bit Confused and Shock.

wiggles has your parents got another new camcorder ordered for you? DO you know which one? (I'm very muddled as to which one to pick - have been looking online for hours but none the wiser).

I too am jealous of knittas chrimbo pressie - my head of dept at school is DT teacher and I'm so Envy of his talents. He made me a lampbase a few weeks ago and it will be pride of place in our new house when we move Grin

tadventjennyp · 01/12/2010 18:08

I've had a lot of BH third time round. The bottom of my bump goes really tight and hard for about 10 seconds. A maternity nurse I am teaching says it could be due to lack of fluids and so to drink lots of water. That might also be why my bump is really flaky too.

wigglesrock · 01/12/2010 18:13

snowangels I've been with Mr Wiggles for almost 20 years, we always do surprises, there were a few years about 10 years ago when I had to kick his arse into gear Grin, he was coasting on the same old stuff, he gives me a list of dvds, box sets etc (his birthday is also just before C'mas) and I always pick some bits and pieces from it, but I think that's because he knows I think its a bit weird for an almost 39 year old to want dvds for C'mas Grin.

We have a Samsung C20 SD Camcorder, it's great, small, light, apparently takes photos etc, to be honest I just point it at the girls, hit the red button and forget to edit out any inappropriate mutterings Blush

We are heading out to dinner tonight with best friends Grin, we always go out this time of year with them because the other husband and I don't get decent "work Christmas dos!!"

ledkr · 01/12/2010 19:06

bh here too.and last night i also had the runs and was convinced i was starting prem labour a bit painfull tbh and enough to make me stop what i am doing.Getting used to them tho now.I a always abit reluctant to go to the hospital as they kidnap you.
My dr is very good too pdr, thats good on the signed off front,i am off now too until the end my dr insisted on it too i didnt ask.
I could never get much out with any pump tbh but think there is one that does both boobs at once which i would have thought was agood idea for stimulating the supply.
Hows the prem lady on the other thread prof?

ZeroMistletoeZeroTinsel · 01/12/2010 20:01

We have a strict price limit this Christmas because of the baby. We're going to a nice restaurant a few days before the big day and then all DH is getting from me is his stocking. But Christmas Day is also my birthday so I'll be getting extra stuff from him... not quite sure what I want though. If money was no object I'd want an ipad but knowing that that won't happen I suppose I want pretty boring stuff like clothes, jewellery, DVDs, CDs and things like that. But as the price limit is £25 I'm not sure how much of that I'll get.

Definitely don't want any baby stuff from DH a I suspect all our presents from all the rest of the family will be babygrows etc

Love the smilies Xmas Grin
