andif · 23/09/2005 08:34

A quick bit of one-handed typing while I feed our new arrival. Nell Eliza arrived at 1.14am on Thurs 22nd weighing in at a whopping 9lb 7oz!! Waters broke at 7pm, contractions started at 9pm. No stitches or tears! Will post full details later.

Wow it has taken me nearly an hour to catch up on everyones news.

Congratulations to Beatie, PiccadillyCircus and Andif. Welcome to Alice Eva, Alice and Nell.

David Lee Hill is a very contented baby but having problem getting to grips with feeding so we are using formula at the moment but using the breast pump with every feed to try and stimulate my supply but I have been warned that this may not be easy and could take up to 4 weeks or more due to my thyrid function problems. Will write up my birth story and put it on the birth announcements when I have the energy. Will tell you now though that it dragged on for quite a while but when things startied happening it was very quick, he was nearly delivered in the lift between maternity ward and delivery room.

Moschops - Sorry to hear of your loss.

STM Spanish health services certainly could learn a lot from services even if they seem inadequate to us on occassion. Your new man sounds Fab.

Ohh well better go feed the troops.

Boompi · 23/09/2005 10:00

beatie · 23/09/2005 11:25

Congratulations AndiF. What a pretty name. I liked Eliza as a first name but DH said no

Katts · 23/09/2005 11:38

Still here and no baby yet.

I spent yesterday at the hospital monitoring fetal heart rate, had a scan to measure the level of amniotic fluid and check placental blood flow. Everything is fine though. Baby is happy and healthy. The main concern at this stage is risk of infection since it's nearly a week since my water's broke - but I've had no vaginal exams so that greatly reduces the risk of infection.

Midwives suggested a glycerin suppository to get my bowels moving (I physically can't sit on the toilet because my back hurts so bad). Tried it and the results were pure bliss! I could immediately feel the baby move a bit further down and contractions started back up at 10 minutes apart. That lasted all night, but this morning - nothing much.

Since I'm under the birthing centre for my home birth and not the labour ward, no one is even suggesting induction at this point. They're happy for me to be at home still as long as the baby isn't in distress and there's no sign of infection. But that's obviously the direction we're heading if things don't happen soon. I REALLY don't want an induction. Just don't know how much longer I can go on with this.

Feel absolutely desperate and low today and feel like I must have a mental block or something to actually getting the baby out.

beatie · 23/09/2005 11:45

Katts - I hope it is your turn today and that the contractions have started up again.

jessysmummy · 23/09/2005 11:57

CONGRATULATIONS Andif Another pretty name.
Hope you are settling in ok with little David, mummyhill and that all comes good with the feeding, one way or the other.
Ooooh got all excited for you then STM. Just think what might have happened if you HAD have been able to have a bit of a canoodle. Anyway, hoping things happen soon for you.
Just back from MW appt. Baby's head not even engaged yet, though I'm told that's quite common for second and subsequent babes so not concerned. Still measuring small though, but I know that I shouldn't trust MW's opinion 100%. On a more positive(?) note MW asked if I would like her to do a sweep for me next week (due date tomorrow). Thought I was going to have to wait until term+10 for that as I did with DD so I nearly bit her hand off. She'll be here on Tues if nothing happens before then. Don't know if she'll be able to do anything though as she's not examined me yet to see how my cervix is doing but has given me some hope that we might see this baby before October (only a week of Sept left!) [fingers crossed emoticon].
Milward - could have sworn that you would have had some luck before our due date - hope you get some action this weekend.
Those of us who are left...babes are going to be Librans. Only know one Libran and she's a bit of a nutter, very carefree and unconventional. Anybody know any Librans - are these typical characteristics?

jessysmummy · 23/09/2005 12:03

Katts [hugs]- so sorry to hear that you're having a tough time - at least you know that baby is safe and sound and can hopefully look forward to a natural birth. If you felt baby move down and have been having contractions you can't have much longer to go. Hope today is your day.

beatie · 23/09/2005 12:06

Librans are meant to be quite laid back I think. Little charmers too.

Nikkinoo · 23/09/2005 12:08

CABE Huge congratulations, I bet he is lovely Im so glad that youve had your baby and alls well. Conrad is a great name by the way (hope it didnt hurt too much)

Havent given birth yet but am terribly busy at the mo, taking on more admin and marketing for DP business and running around after kids and I find this site a bit too distracting!!!!!

Congrats to all the other mums who have had
their lovely bundles too

franch · 23/09/2005 12:08

Katts - you're in pretty much the same position as I was (although in the end it turned out I had a hindwater leak - my waters gave a very definite POP half an hour before DD2 was delivered). Sorry I'm not up-to-date on your story as I can't get on MN much at the moment, but have you tried acupuncture? That's what seemed to get my baby moving in the end (with dramatic results!). People like Pran Pandya (consultant) and Alison McCrae were totally supportive of my decision to sit tight and avoid induction. Email me if I can help at all, as I've been in your situation twice now, with very very different outcomes.

singleteenagemum · 23/09/2005 12:40

JM - i thought something had happened to you hun, you're usually first to post in the morning!!
I've got an 'offical' sweep on Tuesday to, but sneakily booked another with my mw for tomorrow...

Just got bad contraction when going for a wee...not plesant lol.

off on another long walk after i've eaten something and had another RLT tablet...o and some pineapple.

jessysmummy · 23/09/2005 13:01

STM - sounds like you might not need any seeping at all - ironic aonsidering all that scrubbing you've been doing!! Good luck and keep us posted!
Nikkinoo - at least you're keeping yourself busy and not sitting around twiddling your thumbs like me!

jessysmummy · 23/09/2005 13:02

Ooops, should read "sweeping", not "seeping"!!!

LadyLazarus · 23/09/2005 13:45
