Here's the new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

MrsS, I'm so sorry with your news, best of luck and will be thinking of you today. Call Tamba's helpline as they'll have stories and it will be faster than searching threads. Try to think positive but if you can't just don't think negative - docs do amazing things these days.

Can I join? I'm expecting twins have 1 ds already who's 4 and have type 1 diabetes to add to the fun. I'm booked in with St Mary's in London.

My details are: Tiggersreturn #2+3 EDD 26/09/11 NW London DCDA - not finding out.

I'm not sure if they're ID because I do have 2 placentas but at the early scan when I got the surprising news the dr said it looked like I'd only ovulated on one side so they could be monozygotic.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 06/04/2011 12:39

Hello :)

I am also assuming that mine are non id as they are ivf babies and two embryos were put in, but it is still theoretically possible that they're not. Waiting to find out what flavour they are. I think it'll be two girls because I want two boys and DH wants one of each, so it'll be the combo that we ideally don't want! (Although obviously the only thing that's really important to us is whether they are healthy or not :) )

holidays2010 · 06/04/2011 14:45

Welcome Tigger!
I have a 5 yo girl and recently had non id boys. Little tip - watch your FB around the twins, mine (even though she's been told) keeps trying to pick them up or move theyre heads! She isnt aware how fragile they are.

tiggersreturn · 06/04/2011 18:23

Thanks for the tips. I still can't get my head around the fact that I'm finally having another one after so long waiting, let alone 2. All tips gratefully received.

Hi Dachs hope your cocyx is feeling better.

restingkitty · 06/04/2011 18:47

Hi tigger - congratulations - I'm now 30 weeks (eek) and still haven't quite got my head around the whole thing! Although in a way, I can't really imagine only being pregnant with one.

Just for the record I was told the same (ovulated on one side) but now I know I'm having B/G twins, I'm fairly sure they are non-ID Wink

holidays2010 · 06/04/2011 19:35

Tigger-Another thing would be to try your best to keep your DS' routine after the twins are born. im sure youll hear that alot but i never appreciated it and due to poorly planning the after birth DD has ended up missing two more weeks off school. And driven me crazy in meantime!

Ive implemented house rules and consequences now and weve regained some structure and sanity! :)

When is your DS' birthday?

tiggersreturn · 06/04/2011 22:29

Thanks

Ds's birthday is in February. I haven't got my head around any of the arrival bit although I'm planning on taking maternity leave at 30 weeks so I can rest and spend some time with ds before they arrive. I had an emcs with ds and this will probably be a cs as well because of the twins. I'm still making up my mind over whether it's better to stay with my parents for the first week and ds would then go to school during it or go home with some help and ds go to school during it. I like the idea of getting an au pair so that I have help with ds and also because I won't have huge amounts of money at that point. What have others done re help?

Jenzopos · 07/04/2011 11:10

restingkitty if they are b/g twins then they are defiantly not id!

I wonder what its like to be pregnant with one baby, and then have one baby to care for? I laugh at those who say 1 baby is hard! must be easy peasy compared to 2!

get fed up of silly comments of people making out i'm some sort of super mum for coping with twins....like us twin mums have a choice! We just crack on with it cos we have to!

holidays2010 · 07/04/2011 11:14

My DD's b.d is in Feb too!

Re help: if you're having a c-sec maybe it's best to leave DS with your parents so you can rest and have a little extra time to coo over the new arrivals without getting your DS jealous?
I didnt get any help. But then i had a v-birth and coped well alone. Having DP around made me more stressed because he stressed when the twins cry, but then he does sort out DD for me when he's here.
You'll have to do whatever feels right for you.

restingkitty · 07/04/2011 12:04

jenz hopefully you got the sarcasm in my post! Actually only one person has asked me whether they will be identical (who knows we are expecting a boy and a girl), I managed to be fairly patient with them....but really.... Confused

holidays2010 · 07/04/2011 14:24

So how is everyone today?

hippy3 · 07/04/2011 19:18

well hello ladies..I am now the proud mother if two BEAUTIFUL amazing boys.....!!! I ma totally exhausted but delighted and LOVING every moment with them.
Theyw ere born by csec on Thursday 31.3.11....Elijah Ross born at 11.42 weighing ina t 5lb 15 oz, finn Ross born at 11.43 weighing in at 4lb 14 0z....Both are completley perfect.

Csec was completely fine and ina weird way I actually enjoyed the experience, just kept reminding myself that it was to help me meet my boys.It was so quick and the mist surreal feeling and experience and I loved the fact that I was completely concious and remember every minute.

The boys did not need much in the way of intervention. They needed a feed tube for the first 24 hours, then both came off this and took to the bottle with no problems, all test that have been carried out have come back fine. We were all in hospital for a weeek, which was ok.... but came home yesterday...where my partner had a baptisim of fire...no sleep....and around 20 nappy changes. He was trying to give me a break, god love him..... You deff need an extra pair of hands is all I can say, and the most important thing the last week has taught me is that we are not miracle workers, we only have one pair of hands and not to sress when one of them is crying and you cant for what ever reason get to them...its ok..... I found myself worrying I was neglecting one of them the first few days but have realised we can all only do our best.

so apArt from the tiredness I am DELIGHTED and on a hge high and cant stop staring at them...... Hello to all the newbies, I am too tired to read all the posts but I will WHEN I have a minute.....

mrsstevo I did see your news....I am so so sorry let us know how you get on.....xxxx thinking of you.

Jenzopos · 07/04/2011 20:15

people's comments make be laugh!

Jenzopos · 07/04/2011 20:16

they think they are being clever and original with their daft statements...I get 'are they twins' a lot...

MrsStevo · 07/04/2011 21:32

Hi all,

Thanks for your lovely messages.

I'm back home again this evening after an overnight stay at Birmingham.

All in all, a hideous experience but a positive(ish) outcome.

I had laser ablation surgery on the placenta at 8:30 this morning - very scary, much like a c-section in terms of set up (op theatre, lots of people, gown, nil by mouth etc etc). It went really well and they also removed some of the fluid from around the bigger baby (apparently bigger baby kept getting in the way so it took a bit longer than it should have!!). Had to wait in hosp all day (had spinal anaesthetic so couldn't move anyway) and then had another scan at 5:30pm. Both babies alive and appeared well at the scan - smaller baby now has a little amniotic fluid around it (it had none before, was stuck to uterine wall and couldnt see the dividing membrane between babies as it was stuck on the little mite). Now we need smaller baby to get weeing so it has more fluid!

It went as well as it possibly could have done but we are by no means out of the woods yet. Apparently the next scan - at 1 week - is the most important as if they're both ok then, then they stand a good chance. But at risk of waters breaking early now and early labour.

Feeling very glad to be home and that I get to sleep in my own bed tonight, but exhausted emotionally and physically :( . Thank god for my DH being a complete darling throughout the whole experience.

Anyway, please keep fingers crossed for me if you can!!

And on a separate and happier note, congrats hippy!!! Wonderful news! Congratulations! x

holidays2010 · 07/04/2011 23:42

Congrats Hippy! You take it easy now and update once youre rested!

Glad they and youre ok MrsS.

I'm hoping my boys will nod off now for a good 3 hrs...getting tired :)

Snowfalls108 · 09/04/2011 09:00

MrsS - that all sounds positive. Fingers crossed for you.
Congratulations Hippy.

Cantdrinkanymoremilk · 09/04/2011 09:01

Hi! Not sure this is the right thread to post this on, but too tired from baby-wrangling to find another one right now... My babies are six weeks old (born at 34 weeks), and neither have taken to breastfeeding despite lots of help and support, so I've been pumping and feeding them 50/50 with formula. But the time I'm having to spend pumping is adding a huge amount of stress and frustration to our day, and it's bloody painful when I engorge.

Basically, I'm thinking of packing it in and formula feeding but the guilt is ENORMOUS. What do you think??

holidays2010 · 09/04/2011 10:15

Cantdrink - sorry to hear your troubles. I can see why you'd feel so guilty. I'm usually quite tough thinking re bottle or breast, ie breast and nothing else but my boys didnt latch on straight away either and i still blame myself for not feeling able to hold and feed them straight after birth but i was in too much pain...anyway i ended having to express and bottle feed them and just kept trying, i was lucky that they latched on about 4 days after birth.

But if you feel you really cant go on expressing then you'll have to go for formula feeding.
Something that might ease your guilt is something on BBC3 on Tuesday, 'is breast best?' You should watch it.

6weeks is a long time and i think if they were going to latch on they maybe would have done it by now. Have you spoken to your midwife/health visitor about it? What do they say?
Again - sorry for your troubles, i understand you must feel frustrated and upset but dont feel bad, you've tried very hard for a long time.

holidays2010 · 09/04/2011 10:47

oh and you might want,to try multiple births thread, theres a twins club there and i know the ladies will be very welcoming. i'd link you but using my phone.
i think its called 'twins club 2 all welcome'

restingkitty · 09/04/2011 13:37

congrats Hippy wonderful news! Glad to hear you and the boys are all well.

MrsStevo that does sound really positive. You must keep us posted on the scan etc

Cantdrink I don't have any children (yet!) but you must try not to feel guilty. I am hoping to breast feed, but I fully accept that this might not be possible, or very difficult. You just need to do what is right for you all - and if that is formula feeding, then that's fine. As holidays says, worth trying a postnatal multiples thread?

MissyMolly · 09/04/2011 18:10

Big congratulations hippy!! Glad you are all doing well.

MrsStevo- so sorry you have had to go through this worry but it is sounding positive- I'm sure we're all keeping everything crossed for you!!
