MissyMolly · 28/02/2011 19:10

Hi everyone Smile Had scan on Friday and everything ok, twinnies are growing well. My boy is head down and girl is breech, consultant says as everything is ok we'll wait nearer the time to speak about birth options... was in and out quite quickly actually! Confused

I heard there are twins on OBEM tonight, hope that's true although it may scare me!!

holidays2010 · 28/02/2011 20:34

Well good luck to everyone.
i can feel at least one twin quite low down in my pelvis so if i make it to fridays induction i suspect theyll be quite ready to come out!
i get my own room on labour ward when i go on so happy with that, but dr said if my cevix isnt quite ready i could be in for a 6hr wait til things get going!
hope i'll have a signal on my phone so i can come on here! :P

hippy3 · 01/03/2011 08:43

holls you going for a VB or csec?? I am assuming VB......?
Congrats molly ....xxx glad to hear all is going well...

where is the thread for after we have given birth?????

Went to a breast feeding course last night, to be honest didnt tell me anything I didnt allready know.

jenz are you exclusively BFing or you expressing as well...they said that for the first at least four weeks I should be breast feeding.... I was hoping my DP could feed as well if I could express my breast milk.... but I was told that this could affect the supply? just something else to bloody worry about I guess !!!! Smile

holidays2010 · 01/03/2011 10:10

Hippy3 - going for VB, both twins have head down.

And the other thread I believe is in Multiple Births section - "twins club" (same name as ours).

:)

hippy3 · 01/03/2011 13:08

thank you.... I am hoping I wont be on there for another few weeks but you never know...just got back from town after buying my BIG HUGE PANTS for my hospital bag, cant think why my DP hasnt been near me in weeks ! Smile.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 01/03/2011 16:00

holidays2010 · 01/03/2011 17:00

Oh wow Magic, congrats!

i wonder if im the only one making it to my induction date? :)
i also wonder if id twins deliver earlier than non-id? Or perhaps it's to do with whether they're sharing a sac...?
Cant be to do with how active you are because i've hardly slowed down since day one!

restingkitty · 01/03/2011 17:39

congratulations magic!! really good weights too. Hope you are all well and you can get out of hospital soon! you'll be next, holidays.....!

strawberrylace · 01/03/2011 21:55

congratulations thingamajig and magic! so pleased that your little ones have arrived safely

good luck for friday holidays!

Hippy - you mentioned about expressing? I am exclusively bfing my two - i did do some expressing when they were in special care, to bring my milk in, and when they were in hospital with bronchiolitis and being fed through tubes again. In the early days babies tend to feed every 2-3 hours, so i was expressing every 3 hours when they were in special care, to get my supply going. there is a danger that if you do miss feeds early on, its hard for you to maintain your supply - plus it can be very uncomfortable! it was quite handy having to express when the twins had bronchiolitis, as i had a really good supply by then, and was able to take some home for the freezer because I had alot more than they needed. It might be worth posting a question on the breast/bottle feeding bit, to see what others suggest - i know people can mix feed very successfully. bfing was hard for the first 6 weeks, but now i find it really easy (though i never cracked feeding both at the same time - i do one and then the other, as i find that a lot easier to be discrete when feeding at toddler groups etc, which is when mine always need feeds!)

Jenzopos · 02/03/2011 09:40

yes I'd agree with you there strawberrylace that its tough at first but once established is easy! I was tandem feeding at home (though only single feeding in public as you cant tandem and be easily discreet!)but recently they are too big for double rugby hold but cannot support themselves enough yet to try other positions...they hate touching each other while feeding so is tricky so have resorted to single feeding at home too! I use a v shaped feeding pillow too.

holidays2010 · 02/03/2011 09:41

Hippy3 - i bf my first but would give a formula feed at night as she was so hungry which helped her sleep too. But in order to keep my breastmilk up i should have expressed each night and froze it, otherwise supply will go down.
That's why i plan to buy a breastpump soon. Plus it means other people have no excuse not to feed the twins if i've got milk expressed! :)

hippy3 · 02/03/2011 10:38

magic congrats congrats congrats.....xxx thats brilliant news.....! good weights too.
Just gas and air....am MOST impressed...

Am off for a scan this afternoon and consultant appointment. will let you all know how it goes. Thanks everyone for the advice on BF. I will put a post up on the relevant forum on here.

I am trying not too worry about it too much and see how it goes, I dont know if I should buy formula in incase I cant BF? but then I have heard that if you have formula in the house you are less inclined to try... we will see..
cerubina how u doing....?? you havent been on for a bit...everything ok? x still no news from Tabby?

Cerubina · 02/03/2011 12:51

Hi all

Timely question hippy - I have just managed to draw breath long enough to sit down and let you all know that I had my twins on Saturday night, 8 weeks early! I was in the same hospital as Magic and was told she was in having hers but we never crossed paths in the corridors. Anyway, huge congratulations Magic and I'm so pleased to hear they arrived safely. Hope you have taken them home and are loving getting to know them both. What names have you gone for?

You may recall I had that bleed last Weds and that turned out to be nothing. Well on Thursday night I went to bed feeling pretty awful, bad tummy pains after attending a Tamba seminar and sitting on a hideously uncomfortable chair! During the night I started to feel worse and it occurred to me that the pains seemed to be coming in waves so we decided to treat it like contractions and get down to hospital at 4am. They got me on monitors and gave me gas & air, and that helped. After an examination they found I was 1cm dilated so decided that they should try to stop labour given how early it still was (31+2) and give the babies steroids to help their lungs develop, just in case. They kept me in overnight with a patch on my skin which stopped the contractions, and the next day (Saturday) sent me home at lunchtime saying all seemed well and hopefully we would make it another couple of weeks, but if it started up again it couldn't be stopped.

I was only home for 4 hours before I went to the loo and found I was bleeding heavily, which actually pissed me off rather than worrying me as I felt as though I have practically lived at the hospital just recently! We dragged ourselves back there (early evening) and when they saw how much blood there was and examined me they took the decision to deliver that evening by cs. So I was prepped and by 11pm was in theatre. The cs itself was a bit of an odd experience - 13 staff in the room apparently, though I wasn't able to see most of them. The anaesthetist was brilliant and kept us informed what was happening, and I didn't even realise when they'd started.

At 11.13 our son was born (3lb 4oz) and needed help to start his breathing. Two minutes later our daughter was born (3lb 9oz). I was shown them both very quickly wrapped up in their blankets, and then they were whisked off in incubators to NICU while I was stitched up. We both had a cry, we were so happy to see them and they looked beautiful.

After evaluation, our son was kept in NICU but our daughter was able to go down a couple of grades into special care. They've stayed there since and will be in for a while. We decided on names the next day - Sebastian Henry and Rosamund Madeleine (Rosie). Seb has been on a ventilator for a few days but will hopefully be coming off today. Rosie has needed less help and may be home in a couple of weeks. We've had some cuddles with her which are lovely!

We could only be happier than we are if our beautiful babies were well enough to come home with us. The staff at the hospital are doing an incredible job with them, and we are going to be incredibly grateful to them. I've been discharged and feel pretty good, though unfortunately I have a sore throat today so can't go and see them.

It seems the bleeding was caused by a partial placental abruption, hence the urgency of getting them out. I'd been told my placenta wasn't low lying but it seems it was after all.

As for breastfeeding - I've been expressing since Sunday afternoon and found it quite difficult to get the hang of at the start. It was hard to get someone to stop and coach me on what to do but eventually a lovely nurse helped me get to grips with it and I was able to get established using syringes to capture the colostrum. So be persistent in asking for help and make them spend the time with you until you are happy with what you are doing. Apparently I am doing well given that I had a section and the babies were so early, and by now am managing to express 10mls of milk every 3 hours but it's going up in leaps and bounds (was only 2.5mls each time yesterday). Am going to order a pump today as it's already at the point where milk is running down my stomach from one breast while I deal with the other one! It's quite weird having these things leaking without me able to do anything to stop them!

This is a bit of an essay, sorry, but once you start it's easy to go on! I've uploaded a couple of photos if you're interested.

Good luck for your induction holidays, hope everyone else is well.

Cerub x

holidays2010 · 02/03/2011 14:12

Cerub - sorry for your ordeal, but great news on yours and the babies progress.
Good luck with everything. x

strawberrylace · 02/03/2011 16:03

Cerub - wow, that sounds like it was all a bit of a shock! beautiful names, and i am glad they're doing well. i looked at you photos, and its hard to believe that mine were like that 4 months ago!
About the expressing and leaking boobs - i got these breastshells that you can use to catch the milk from the other side when you're expressing in the early days so it doesn't go to waste - you need to use the bits without holes!

hippy3 · 02/03/2011 19:20

cerub for some reason I was reading your post crying....(Sorry its probably the hormones...XX)

I am glad that they are both doing ok, and what beautiful names.... I think that they are both going to be fine. They sound like fighters.... xxxx Smile please keep us informed of the progress when you get a minute, and can be bothered. I had a feeling something had happened. as I had not heard from you on here for a few days.... I will have too look at your pictures...

The biggest hug to you all. It seems so weird that any of us could go at any day now... I am taking each and every day as a bonus... and I move Saturday so stay in babies till we move. !!!

My scan went well today, both are still growing, one is now head up...so maybe have to be c sec.... ?? will see closer to the time. ONe thing that did conern me, but no one else is that the endiastolic flow?? between the two seemed to be different one was 78 the other was 1.03...I am not even sure what this is and stupidly should have asked at the time, but you know how your mind goes blank..no one else seemed too concerned though, and registrar said it was all looking normal...? any ideas...? Hmm

restingkitty · 02/03/2011 19:33

A big week for the twins club! Congratulations Cerubina. I'm sure it must have been a shock, but I'm glad you are out of hospital - and it sounds like the babies are making good progress. Lovely names...in fact very similar indeed to our intended names! I do hope they continue to gain strength. Best wishes to you all

holidays I was wrong in my assumption! I'm sure (hope!) you will be next now....!! Good luck for the induction.

holidays2010 · 02/03/2011 20:44

Yes, i guess you never can say who's next in a twins club! i just hope these two dont decide to come out before my induction..

MorningsMadness · 03/03/2011 09:26

Wow, congratulations everyone!
Cerub what a traumatic time but sounds wonderful and beautiful names - congratulations.
At only 17 weeks it seems a lifetime until we're there!

Jenzopos · 03/03/2011 11:20

What lovely names cerub! Hope your beautiful twins are doing well, and well done with the expressing...I agree you have to be quite persistent in asking for help as so many mw wrongly assume you will be bottle feeding!
