Oo cervix scan...they usually only look at the twins and the fluid (etc), dont believe they've ever looked at my cervix before...
Is it important? I've had a v.delivery before so maybe I dont need it?

I got a little worried last night because I couldnt remember feeling much movement from twin with head down (the other one is so lively it's funny) but then a few minutes later after trying to reassure myself all is well they both started wriggling and kicking. Xmas Grin
My DD1 felt the twin on top because as soon as she put her hand on my bump s/he kept boxing back at her! Then as soon as she moved her hand off the baby moved away! So cute.

Ok I'm done cooing, my feet still ache :/
Hope everyone else is well though!

Oh Magic - when do you have it rebooked for? If the nurse doesnt turn up for mine I'll be well pissed off, I have to go up there on 23rd and I think back again on 24th?

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 15/12/2010 09:21

Morning!

I think at each scan they check cervix is closed and long which I am assuming a trained eye can see without doing measurements but it depends on hospital policy etc etc.........I had/have measurements done every fortnight from 12 weeks as I had a late m/c last year, but this was part of my plan of care and not routine.

My GTT is booked for 21st (I also have a growth scan, midwife afterwards!). Just need to remember to fast again - I hate that.

SO lovely to feel the twins, mine I think are oblique transverse (from last scan and feeling them) and it has been much more comfortable since they have hopped off my bladder! Sometimes I can't tell who or what is moving Grin

Have a great day ladies!

MyFourGirls · 15/12/2010 09:27

Hi ladies...

I had my lovely girls last friday - May Louisa and Florence Judy - by forceps and c-section weighing in 9lbs and 8lbs 5ozs!!!!

Obviously not the straightforward natural birthing i'd hoped for but v worth it they're so lovely...

Hope all well with you all...it's great being on the other side...feel like slimmer of the year!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 15/12/2010 09:48

Ahhhh Congratulations Myfourgirls lovely news and lovely names ;) What amazing weights!!!!!!!! You are a star!

holidays2010 · 15/12/2010 10:02

Wow congratulations myfourgirls!
What weights! Were your other kids born around the same weights?
I ask because my first was big too so wondering if these two will be.

Magic- until my last scan I wasnt sure who was kicking but now I know where they are I can place the movements with each twin.
My DD1 asked me last night how can two babies fit in my belly and then how are they going to come out! Xmas Blush

Amberc · 15/12/2010 12:50

Myfourgirls - blimey they are huge!!!! Many congratulations! PS Had a scan yesteray and now know why I can hardly walk/sleep etc twin 1 5.12 twin 2 6.2 - I am not even 34 weeks yet! Nothing compared to yours though!

OP posts:
Cerubina · 15/12/2010 13:41

Hi all

Lots of posts since yesterday!

First of all huge (and I mean huge) congrats to Myfourgirls - you are a hero to have carried and then delivered such big uns! Hope all is well and you are not too sore from the experience. Love the names.

Our scan went perfectly - a very big relief! The twins are both weighing in at 1lb and are very alike on measurements, apparently both very long-legged, which they don't get from me for sure! The scan was really thorough and took ages but worth it to get such a good look and absolutely everything seemed to be normal and on track. Both are currently breech, and one placenta is anterior and slightly low while the other is posterior - the staff didn't seem concerned by any of this.

Also my cervix was apparently fine - I don't know what the protocol is at different hospitals but it was always scheduled in for me from the start, which could be the routine at St George's or could be related to my age perhaps? It was measured as part of the rest of the scan, not with an internal scan. I would definitely ask for them to do it as it's another thing to help put your mind at rest and with twins I get the feeling that the extra weight can make a difference to how the cervix copes.

The other thing we wanted to ask about was whether the placentas looked OK, given our scare recently - seems both are quite normal and there's no evidence of anything missing or peeling away so I guess we assume what I passed was a large clot and perhaps that's to do with the heparin I'm taking. Will try to forget all about it now we have had such a positive check up.

Snowfalls get lots of rest while you're in there and enjoy the private room - you don't even want to know what sort of noises I had to listen to from one of my ward-mates while I was in hospital, suffice to say there were emissions from every orifice, loudly! Hope the drip gets you sorted out and resolves the sickness.

Amber you are heading for some big babies yourself there...are you very uncomfortable? Hope you are able to get lots of rest for these last few weeks.

Waves to everyone else.

Ive another scan on Friday I am asking for a cervix scan Smile

cerubina am delighted that your scan went well....!! yeay !

magic8 we are having a dispute with the landlord re who is going to fix it. Ive environmental health involved! but i am not letting this one lie. Had a brilliant time at the xmas party and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Even though everyone was very drunk. Although it was a late night for me (11) and Ive paid for it all week. Hmm

myfour HUGE congrats to you. those weights are unbelievable !!

Cannot wait for this break at xmas... cant wait to be spoilt. We are going to Dublin for new year to stay with the in laws. and plan on not lifting a finger ! bliss..... am dreading this next cold spell mind you

tabbycat76 · 16/12/2010 09:08

Hi guys - I'm a bit miffed, every time I logged in it read no new posts so I left it and then thought someone MUST have posted something so looked directly at the thread and low and behold loads of new posts to read! Whats that all about?!

Anyway, many congrat myfourgirls - what amazing weights!! You must be thrilled to bits - and glad it's all over! Fab names too!

Seems like Amberc is heading the same way with birth weights! ;)

I'm 30+ now, feel like I've a permenent bowling ball shuffed up my top too, tho people keep saying how small I am for twins. I'm very compact tho so it makes moving around quite difficult now. Mine too are lying awkwardly holidays. Twin one at last scan was head down, twin two lying transverse underneath my diaphragm! Makes for a lot of shortness of breath and bums/heads under ribs but I don't mind. I have another scan nxt Monday so I wonder if they'll have moved?!!

I've been getting quite a few tightenings lately too - has anyone else? They're not painful but I'm certainly aware. Ive been told its because there's not so much room in there so we'd feel them earlier but wow when they come it's an odd sensation!

Go on maternity leave Monday too - 2 more shifts to go and I'm done. I'm on light duties on our ward which means office work and audits which can be tedious but it's more suited to me at the mo. Ill be 32 weeks by the time official Mat leave starts - wow! How time flies. Ive also been told I can expect our bundles of joy from 36 weeks - I hope so because I don't think my belly can stretch any more..... tho at the moment I've still escaped the stretch marks (keep checking tho!!!).

Anyway, hope you all are ok and gearing up for Christmas. We're with my in laws Christmas Day, oh joy! Lots of people in one tiny house and sat round a tiny table in a tiny dining room. (I'm clostraphobic so not looking forward to this, get soooo nervous and panicky) but I keep reminding myself, it's for one day only. I can manage that!!!

Anyone got any nice non alcoholic drink ideas for Christmas this year?!?

x

tabbycat76 · 16/12/2010 09:12

p.s have an appt this morning with the physio. I hope she's going to give me a support belt to hoick up these babes. I'm carrying low so any length of walk and I get so achey. I'll let you know how it goes.

Also got my new midwife coming round later to book me (we moved a while ago so have transferred maternity care to the local hospital). I wonder what their policy is on twin deliveries and if they believe in maternal choice! Ha! Maternal choice??!?!? Whatever is that these days?!?!?!?!? I'd prefer a section so we'll see what she says!

Have a good day guys!

holidays2010 · 16/12/2010 10:03

Do let me know how physio goes, I may book myself an appointment after xmas.

Darling OH is doing the washing up today so that just leaves me with the hoovering, ironing and washing.
No rest for the wicked eh?
Might leave the ironing til tomorrow though. Xmas Grin

smokeybacon · 16/12/2010 10:26

Hi all.Have been AWOL again but have managed to post a couple of pics on my profile for you to have a gawp at. Will try and get some more recent ones as the boys are now nearly 6 weeks old. 6 weeks!!! Where did all that time go?

Having said I was cutting down on breast feeding, we are still going and I will prob keep going as long as we can. Its been useful in the evenings if the boys get a bit hungry before their 10pm feed. I think they are also hitting their 6 week growth spurt as they are both v hungry at the moment.

tabby I can't beleive you are 30 weeks already. It all seems to have gone so fast. And maternity leave already. I recommend sleeping, reading, watching LOTS of tv, and more sleeping. I did a lot of that. Hope you get your belt. I had a Belly Bra which did help but it was a bit of a struggle to get on and off and was quite hot to wear.

myfour WOW what amazing weights and such beautiful names. A massive congratulations to you. Apart from all the obvious things about giving birth, its great to be able to bend in the middle again, isn't it??

Amberc · 16/12/2010 11:05

Smokey - lovely pics!!

OP posts:
tabbycat76 · 16/12/2010 15:22

Well phsyio was really well worth having this morning - I went because of feeling heavy and achey in my tummy when walking any distance and was requesting a support belt. It turns out my pelvis has shifted position slightly with pregnancy and one leg is shorter than the other! Ha, wonky walkies eh?! Anyway, a bit of manipulation and some excerises to do at home and I'm sure I'll be fine. She couldn't give me a support belt tho because I have one anterior placenta, damn it!

I've also been booked (again) by my new midwife at our new hospital. She seems pleasant enough and although I'm not with the consultant I requested :( she does seem to think I'll have a choice with re to mode of delivery. I have an appt with my consultant Christmas Eve so lets see if she'll give me the Christmas pressie I'd love to hear - that I can have a section!

Hope you've all had a fab day so far!

By the way, loving the piccys smokey

hippy3 · 16/12/2010 18:27

smokey great pics..didnt even know you could have a profile on here !!! I am getting a bit apprehensive about xmas...

My sisters are not speaking, we were all meant to be spending xmas together but this has been cancelled. Am trying not too get too involved, trying to stay calm because of pregnancy and all that. But it is just the three of us and I feel like bashing both their heads together. My DP rang them both last night and told them to sort it out !

We are also off to Dublin on the 30th for a few days, and for some reason I am REALLY worried that I am going to go into prem labour?Hmm I dont know why, but I am a bit anxious about it. I have even been researching hospitals just incase...im being demented I know but it keeps popping into my head Confused

Have yet ANOTHER scan tomorrow so no doubt will have more news....will ask about the cervix scan as well....

am bracing my self for the snow...

holidays2010 · 16/12/2010 18:57

Hi, done a little updating on the list, feel free to adjust. I know there are new people but I'm out of time and energy now, and off to bed.
Will post properly tomorrow, I have been moving house and have only just got the internet back.
What are your thoughts on a 5 hour car journey to my parents for Christmas? I'm fine with the idea but DH/mother/MIL think its a bad idea - I will be 27/28 weeks.

holidays2010 · 17/12/2010 08:11

looks like you, magic and me are all due within days of eachother Xmas Smile

Holidays where are you booked in to have your bubbas? Have they said anything to you about mode of delivery (as they put it)? They said they will give me a date at 34 weeks. What about you Thinga?

Hippy glad scan was ok. What did they say about the cervix thing?

Glad your physio went well Tabby, shame about the support belt, didn't realise you couldn't have one if you had ant placenta.

Lovely pics Smokey :)

Had bloods done today because the itching is getting worse. They have given me piriton & aqueous cream but I am going to steer clear of the piriton if I can. I hope I just have gammy old sensitive skin and not OC as could really do without the extra stress on an already high risk pregnancy!

Not lovin the threat of snow tomorrow and it is almost -7!!!!!

Have a great weekend ladies.
