Hi there, esp Magic and Holidays. The registrar seemed to think that the twins would come somewhere between 32 and 36 weeks; I don't know if that is earlier than other twins as mine are morochorionic and share a placenta. That would put them sometime in February.

I am having them at Derriford in Plymouth, who are running a study on whether twin birth is safer by section or natural (given twin 1 is head down). I am opting out of the survey, however. I really don't want a section as DD is 3 and needs at least some picking up and not driving is a huge handicap in rural Cornwall, even if it is only for a few weeks and I doubt I'll get out much anyway.
To be honest, I just don't fancy the idea and I had DD at home, labouring in a birth pool, with no painkillers. It may sound hippy-dippy but I hate the idea of over medicalising a very natural process.

At the last scan (26 weeks; I get scans fortnightly) they were 2lb and 1lb14 - getting more viable by the day, which is nice.

I don't have a support belt as such but do have body size tubigrip, which helps somewhat, though I think it makes my heartburn worse, so I only put it on if I have to walk any distance. It is incredibly inelegant though, and goes from my bra to my bum - getting in and out is a struggle Grin

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 18/12/2010 00:20

Thinga your tubigrip sounds like my knickers (over the bump specials from mothercare LOL!)

Mine are MoDi too and they told me C-Sec at 37 weeks if not before. Have other medical probs & was in HDU/induced for DD1 but had quick VB with no comps. As much I would love to try for VB again there is no way they will agree & I am happy to have C-sec as I just want them out as quick and as safely as possible. DD2 was also VB but at 21 weeks sadly. If I make it to 37 weeks I will be shocked espec with my history of PROM and that they are MoDi, but you saying 32-36 weeks makes me think shit that is like 6-10 weeks away Shock

My next scan is Tues (will be 27 weeks) so I will ask them about weights as I have no idea.

Can't sleep tonight...........

Just noted the updated list - there must be a mistake somewhere... my name seems to be second from the top!!!! Last time I saw the list I was about half way! Really... have there been so many of you deliver already?!?! OMG, getting a little bit close now... scary!
6-8 weeks! Is anybody getting oober sensitive and emotional about their impending delivery?!? I can't believe I'm gonna be a mummy soon and I just well up at the thought every time it pops into my head!!! Bloody hormones!! Grin

Swazzee · 18/12/2010 12:49

Hi everyone

Been keeping up with the thread but think it's a while since I posted anything. I've just added a few photos of Adem and Rafi to my profile, so please do have a look. They look so angelic in all the pictures and when people come to visit - hard to believe they're the same babies that scream the place down at 1am!

Tabby I was very emotional and sensitive during the last few weeks leading up to the birth, and in the few weeks following it. Still can't believe I'm a mummy - I have to keep saying the word to make it real!

Bit fed up of this snow - need to take the twins into town to get their passport photos done and also to get some more formula milk (can't believe how much they get through!) but I don't really want to go out in the snow, plus the chances of buses or trains working are pretty remote anyway. Any other year I'd be happy with a white Christmas - just not this year!

Amberc · 18/12/2010 16:31

Hi all - that list brings it home - 20 days for me!!! Having a really shit time of it with these two shoppers and hardly sleeping at all.

My did was meant to be coming today and I had to call and get them to turn back halfway here as it was a blizzard. Really annoyed. Still my ds is sick poor lamb there's nothing left in him but he's still crying and retching :-(

Stupid predictive text! Whoppers not shoppers!

magic8 you arent going to believe this..totally forgot to ask about the cervix scan...!! lol..but am back in on wednesday anyway, so will ask then.

The twins have seemed quiet today havent felt as much movement as other days... was only scanned yesterday and hey were wild as march hares in there !! I am guessing this is normal...is it ????

Snowed here...had the most relaxing day. Even managed to have a good snooze this afternoon, and am now watching bridget jones and laughing. hope the weekends are going well.
thingmjig its normal for MC twins to come early apparently. I have been told by ALL the consultants, and ive seen loads that 36/37 weeks is full term and any time after 28/30 weeks is good....... they have discussed delivering mine at 34-35, but my consultant has said that we will have to wait and see. He has said that the mile stone that I should aim for is 28 weeks.... im 21 tomorrow. so im counting it down... am tired so am off too bed...

Please someone tell me its normal not to feel so much movement on some days. Im a bit gutted as ive only just started to feel anything. ! just feels like gas bubbles again today as oposed to being flicked ..Sad

Swazzee · 19/12/2010 01:25

Hippy, if you've only just started feeling movements then it's normal to feel them more some days than others. When I first started feeling movements, it wasn't every day or regular for a while. I was told to try and count at least 10 movements in every 24 hours and call the midwife if you're worried, but I'm sure it's all fine.

I was also told by everyone that twins come early but being induced at 38 weeks when they totally weren't ready made me realise that it's not always the case. Take it easy and rest lots when the tiredness hits at 32 weeks and just try and keep them in as long as possible. The longer they're in there, the healthier they'll be when they come out. That said, be prepared for an early arrival!

hippy3 · 19/12/2010 08:54

swazzee thank you !! Have literally just woken up and wanted to check on here. Have been feeling movements for the last few days but not so strong my DP could feel them felt more like being flicked. ? so am just trying to put it out of my head. If I am REALLY worried by the end of the day/ tomorrow then ill phone the midwife/ hospital.

Your probably right... Sorry I am such a worrier ! doesnt bode well for these poor little things god love them ! Smile

smokeybacon · 19/12/2010 21:02

What gorgeous boys you have swazzee!!

Amberc · 20/12/2010 08:14

Swazzee - your boys are adorable and glad to see you have the same pushchair as I picked out - is it working out for you?

Hippy - sometimes I don;t feel movement for a day which is weird at 34 weeks but as long as you feel 10 per day aparently it's OK. Try drinking iced water or eating something very sugary - it's meant to get them moving - it's what they do in 3D scans when the baby has gone to sleep! I find Mars refuel drink always makes mine move.

Cerubina · 20/12/2010 10:01

hippy that was a very subtle update to the list that you did on Friday but am I right to detect that you now know you are having twin boys?! Glad the scan went well and are you pleased to know they are boys? My two had a quiet day yesterday in terms of movement too so try not to worry. Have you spotted a pattern to when they are liveliest? Mine seem to wake up and move around 9.30pm each day and when I sit in certain positions, eg legs curled up, it seems to make them protest a bit more so try making them uncomfortable and see if that works!

thingamajig I'd keep the Christmas travel under review for the moment given the weather! We set out on Saturday to go to a family party in the Midlands and got about halfway there when we decided we had to turn back - we then got stuck on the M40 for about an hour before totally lucking out and managing to get down a slip road into the nearest town and found a hotel where we holed up for the night. It was getting a little bit worrying sitting there, and I have no doubt we'd have been stuck for hours or possibly overnight if we hadn't been lucky with that escape route. Cars just couldn't cope with the snow and any inclines at all. 5 hours sounds quite ambitious, but of course it all depends where you are and what your route is.

Magic hope the itching is improving with the cream you're using. Must be infuriating. Hope the scan tomorrow is OK too - have you much snow near you? It's OK here but I'm still working from home to avoid the ice.

Tabby that is a bit of a blow about the support belt - I was expecting to need one too and suppose with an anterior placenta of my own that is not going to happen! What a shame. Glad you found physio helpful though and hope it lasts.

Poor Amber, not sleeping and with a poorly child too. Nearly there now, and Christmas will help it fly by.

Swazzee lovely pics - so nice to see what we can expect at the end of this!

Apart from our unexpected hotel detour over the weekend, all is fine here. My bump is growing at a rate of knots! I'm still getting a fair amount of back ache when I walk or sit for long but it's manageable with rests and hot water bottles. Really looking forward to Christmas now. Oh, and I've agreed when I'm starting maternity leave - middle of Feb, when I should be 30 weeks so potentially nice and early. Really focuses the mind on everything that needs to get done before I finish up, it will be a struggle!

cerubina Ive known it was boys for a few weeks.... !!! I am laughing I thought I already posted it on here, but the way my mind has been I wouldnt be surprised if I didnt !

Am DELIGHTED its boys. To be honest from the second I found out I was pregnant I had a feeling it was going to be a boy, then of course it two now !! lol.... i am one of three grils and there are no boys in the family, have also heard boys are easier Hmm

Have just posted on the main boards. Me and DP had a huge row last night about when the inlaws can come for their first visit, and I am not sure if I am being unreasonable, I wanted to wait a month. we have compromised and said two weeks..but they are NOT staying with us. And they can visit for a couple of hours on a saturday and sunday... is this normal to feel like this .
the thing is I want his mum to come over and help me after he goes back to work...guess u cant have it all .

Oh and by the way, think I was panicking. They were moving away all day yesterday and this morning. Seems to be more in the morning when I wake and when im relaxed at home. Also read its normal not to feel them strongly every day until about 27 weeks ?? as always thanks for the support ! Smile

Amberc · 21/12/2010 09:50

I remember having a 'chat' with my DP about when visitors could come with DS. I read all about having a babymoon and said we should but to be honest my friend came to the hospital the day after and so did my sis. DPs rellies came a couple of days after we got home and it was fine. I think it's not so much a case of when they come, more how long they stay for. You'll be knackered and so a couple of hours is probably fine. You might find you want people to come sooner to show off your little ones. You dont know how you'll feel yet I guess - a month might be a little bit on the long side to wait (she says delicately!).

Glad all went well yesterday hippy. It's very emotional when you see them and realise how real they are!

Happy Christmas everyone - last day in work today and I don't think there'll be any posting on here again for a week or two, so I hope everyone has a brilliant time with friends, family and bumps (or babies) and here's to an exciting 2011 with lots of new arrivals! Xmas Grin

Swazzee · 23/12/2010 20:40

Had a visit from the health visitor today and had the boys weighed. The little lumps have put on a kilo in the last two weeks - that's 2lbs 2oz. So they're now 8lb 10oz. Seems a lot to me, but she was happy with it. I'm glad they're progressing so well :)

Amber, I love the pushchair. Easy to push around. It's a bit hard work to fold it though - you have to yank at 2 straps in the middle which means leaning over it and pulling up - very hard on my back, but I guess I'll get used to it and the mechanism will probably become a bit smoother as time goes on - it's a bit stiff at the mo. Overall, a good choice I reckon.

As for visitors, I loved having them from a couple of days after I got home. Gave me a link to the outside world (felt quite cut off and cooped up during the first couple of weeks) and something to look forward to - days of repeatedly feeding and changing can get a bit samey! But they have to be people who won't comment on the state of the flat (it hasn't seen a Hoover in a while) or judge you on your parenting skills! I'm lucky most of my visitors have been friends who don't have kids so they're all in awe of me caring for two, which makes me feel well chuffed Grin

Looking forward to our first family Christmas. Hope you all have good ones too.
