Not long is it Magic!
Actually you've given me an idea, I might knit a hat for someone I know whos due to have a baby on xmas day! Maybe even add matching mittens and socks - socks are tricky though..
Xmas Smile

hippy3 · 07/12/2010 19:23

just seen you are talking about VB but I recieved a letter form the hospital at the beginning of the week saying ive an appointment with the consultant anethesitist?? so im assuming they have presumed i am going in for a c section?? I have yet ANOTHER appointment tomorrow so will discuss the assumption then.... although to be honest I am not to bothered either way, as long as they are both ok ! Smile

Sorry also posted again any one tried the Jane twin pro pushchair?

looks kinda cool.... needs the two strata twin car seats though....and will suit them when they get a bit bigger.Tamba recommended it...anyone tried it?

Hello everyone!

After my weekend of birthday celebrations, I'm back to reality and thank you all for your birthday wishes. Amberc happy belated birthday to you too and wow to the Take That tickets! My hubby and I had our Xmas presents to each other the other weekend and saw Aha at Wembley! Am I showing my age or perhaps even an odd taste in music?! Either way, it was fab and we enjoyed it! :)

Anyway, I've no idea who's next on our list to drop, but seriously hoping my name isn't too close to the top. I've been experiencing quite a few tightenings lately, uncomfortable but not painful apart from a couple at night that woke me up. I find these babies are lying quite low as well so I tire easily walking for too long. Well I phoned up the unit this evening to check that what I was feeling was normal and she said that because my tummy is bigger and tighter with twins, I'd be aware of tightenings earlier. She didn't seem concerned so I'm happy.

Oh, I wonder if anyone has needed Anti D at 28 weeks? I should have had it but it got sent to the wrong place (to the Gp instead of the hospital) so I haven't had it yet. Do you think having it at 29+ weeks (my next a/n check is next Thurs) would be a problem or maybe I should contact the midwife earlier... she'sa nightmare to get hold of tho.

My two are certainly very wriggly. They've been non stop more or less since during the night last night! Think they're trying to fight their way out, but, tho it can be uncomfortable with their back flips etc, it's certainly reassuring so I won't complain!

Ooo, before I forget, I have my first GP appt at my new surgery (I'm in the process of transferring hsopitals) so I wonder if I get a choice of consultants and mode of delivery at my new hospital. Quite exciting really!!! Fingers crossed they give me a choice.... I'm on the fence at the moment, teetering tho both ways - cs or vb.....

So who is next?!?!?

holidays2010 · 08/12/2010 07:17

Good to hear youre doing well tabby.

I had yet another bad nights sleep, 3 in a row now. Its my damn thighs, sleeping on my sides kills them!
I think it could be the bed too, we need a new one.

Tired today, I cant wait til I can sleep on my back again!

Swazzee · 08/12/2010 07:52

Hippy, an appointment with the consultant anaesthetist doesn't presume a cs. I had an appointment too (for me it was because of a high bmi, but there are plenty of medical reasons that would trigger it). And i was always assumed to be having a vb. They deal with epidurals as well as cs anaesthetic. The appointment itself was a bit useless though - he just told me that a high bmi would make things difficult (he wasn't wrong, to be fair!) and gave me a leaflet to read. Could have done it by letter to be honest rather than me trekking in there.

MyFourGirls · 08/12/2010 08:47

hello girls...brief update...still pregnant - 40+1 - saw consultant yesterday who treated me like a schoolgirl in the headmasters office. babies are fine though and i'm agreed we won't go further than friday... had a sweep (horrible) and i'm already 3cms and with a v 'favourable' cervix... having another reflexology/shiatsu treatment this am after quite an effective one on monday night - i had strong period pain all night...so hopefully i'll be able to go into labour properly on my own... you probably think i'm nuts but i'm not too uncomfortable and had a pretty bad experience after being induced with DD1 - I brew babies for a long time it seems... anyway - next time i post they'll be here hopefully...

sassy34264 · 08/12/2010 10:23

Bloody hell myfourgirls Xmas Grin

All respect to you......I would have been going around the bend by this stage. Good luck and hope you have the birth you want. x

tabbycat76 · 08/12/2010 10:28

I don't think you're nuts at all myfourgirls - I say go for it if you think it'll help! I can't believe they let women with twins go past the due date, infact up to the due date!! I was always under the impression you get induced at 38 weeks! Uh oh!

I have an appt with the GP this afternoon so I'll see what he says re delivery options.

Sorry to hear you're not sleeping so well holidays - I went through a spell of bad sleep and considered buying the sleep genie, but its kinda resolved now. Having said that I am beginning to get uncomfortable in bed again just recently but then my bump is a lot bigger now. And then there's the constant moving and wriggling of these little creatures - sometimes I just think 'will you just stop for one moment'! But then think, well its reassuring so you carry on in there having a party babies!!!

Don't you just love being pregnant... with all these little ailments that you experience, if it's not one thing it's another!!!! That aside tho, it's so magical!

holidays2010 · 08/12/2010 11:29

Quite agree tabby.
I thought my sleep was finally getting better but guess not.
And to top it off ive a pain in my right rib for some unknown reason.
Oh and nearly fainted waiting in queue at post office today! I think next time il request a chair or to be seen first!
Xmas Smile

Jenzopos · 08/12/2010 12:20

hopefully i might see some of you there :)

Amberc · 08/12/2010 16:24

I was wondering about what to do once the babies are born re threads! Is that a good one then Jenz?

Found my first stretch marks today - boooooo!

OP posts:
holidays2010 · 08/12/2010 18:25

I cant see me having a minute to myself after the twins are born so havent given any of that thought.

As for stretchmarks, I can barely see past the top of my stomach! Xmas Grin

hippy3 · 08/12/2010 20:14

Met with my WONDERFUL consultant today. He has totally reassured me and has said that I can still have a VB if I want to. {although not sure if I do!!}

He also said that they look like they are growing strong, and that all the scares that i have had about scans shouldnt have happened. That as long as they are doing like they are doing they will be fine. He said the mile stone to get to is 28 weeks...... I am 19 plus 3 today so have a little while yet.each week as it comes.....Smile

When did people start buying things for their babies???
I am really tempted to start getting stuff....!!

swazzee thanks for the advice.....x

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 08/12/2010 20:27

So my discovery this week is that work - as in in an office - is much less tiring than looking after a baby! On Monday after looking DS for the day I was asleep by 7pm, on Tuesday following 10 hours in the office, loads of energy left! My worry as a result of this is how on earth am I going to cope with 3 under 20 months!
Amberc - my stretch marks with DS arrived at 41 weeks, so annoying! It will be interesting to see how quickly they arrive with twins.
Hippy3 - glad to hear your consultant appointment went well.

holidays2010 · 09/12/2010 06:43

I got all my stretchmarks in the last month or two of pregnancy with DD1.
I thought id had escaped them on account of me doing 80 sit ups aday! But those fitness days are over so I expect to get more stretchmarks any day now. Xmas Smile

Amberc · 09/12/2010 09:05

Annoyingly I didn't get any with ds although he wAs 8.12lb and I thought I'd escaped but no!

I started buying things at 28 weeks. Got everything bar the car sears now at almost 33 weeks.

tabbycat76 · 09/12/2010 09:45

No stretch marks for me yet! Am 29+3 so I've got time.... just keep lathering on the co co butter! God I'm obsessed with that stuff, morning and night!!!! But I do have an impressive linea nigra!!!! And my belly button is almost completely flattened out now - how is it that the middle of your belly button which you wouldn't normally be able to see (unless you are blessed with having a wash board stomach outside of a pregnancy), has no sensation to it??! Bizarre.

Anyway, my GP appt yesterday was a bit of a joke. I don't know who I saw, I presume it was a GP but he knew f-all!!! Didn't know the procedure for transferring patients, had to ask another chap in to the room to help, and then when he DID get the paperwork to fill in, he asked me to help him fill it in for him (because I guess there was midwifery terminology on the form that he wasn't familiar with and he knew I used to be a mw because I'd mentioned I'd been recommended a consultant by one of my ex colleagues who works there)! He couldn't tell me how long the procedure for transferring care would take or infact who would be contacting me re my initial maternity appt. I came out thinking, I could have done all that myself if you'd have given me the form!!!! Oh well. Anyway, needless to say, he wasn't the best person to ask about delivery options so I didn't even broach it with him!! I'll wait till I see my midwife.

Am out for the day today, visiting some old uni friends and their baby who's delish and apparently very cuddly now (he's 5-6mths) so I'll check back in later this evening. Have a good day folks!

Oh, before I forget, one question, where do you notice stretch marks first? On top of your bump or underneath - I can't see a damn thing underneath, so much for my lady garden being kept pruned!!!!!!

holidays2010 · 09/12/2010 10:11

Know exactly what you mean tabby-on that last point!
I dont like to look at my bump in the mirror so much because the size scares me!
Actually ive two questions,
Do any of you care that you cant 'prune the lady garden'? As tabby put it Xmas Grin
And has anyone considered buying one of those pregnancy support bands?

Cerubina · 09/12/2010 11:58

Morning all

No stretch marks here yet but then I'm only 20+1 so there's time. I'm still rubbing unguents into my bump every morning in the hope it'll do something!

holidays I have until now managed to shave the worst excesses of my lady garden but it is definitely getting harder to see what I'm doing and probably not worth continuing for risk of cutting myself, so a decision will need to be taken at some point whether I go for waxing or not! I think I probably will want it to be reasonably tidy at least but then I've never waxed my bikini line and am a bit nervous of it! Stupid considering that birth is a bit more painful! Confused

Sending labour vibes to myfourgirls, hope this is it for you now.

tabby that doesn't sound like a very impressive GP! Perhaps he was a student or something. Glad yours was more useful and reassuring hippy. When is your anomaly scan, is it next week like mine?

Jenz I have been following the 'life after twins' thread as well, it is quite nice to get an insight into what happens after the babies come and what things we might need to be aware of - sleeping patterns seem to be a big thing, not surprisingly!

holidays hope the fainting spell was a one-off and you are better now. Standing up for too long and rushing around can be quite hard work so take care of yourself. I went to my work Christmas party for all of 90 minutes the other evening and to be honest that was enough standing for me! What a total lightweight. Seems I missed loads of fun leaving early but then had a lovely clear head yesterday that my colleagues definitely didn't!

I'm so excited to be 20 weeks, I'm feeling quite well too - sleeping well, no serious aches and pains apart from a slightly stiff back now and then, skin looks great, and my bump is growing nicely. The other evening one twin gave me quite a big kick, as if he was doing a little backflip. Very nice to feel and I can't wait until my husband can feel them from the outside too.

Amberc · 09/12/2010 12:29

My stretch marks aRe on the underside so no way I would have seen other thAn looking in the mirror.

I can hardly shave my legs now let alone anything else! I couldn't care less About it! What I can't see can't annoy me. I'm going to get oh to shave the top bit where they cut before I go in but nothing else.

I am having major sleep problems. I was up every hour last night with the leg and hip pains which I now know to be sciatica. Hideous.

OP posts:
Cerubina · 09/12/2010 14:01

Oh poor you. There's nothing worse than when you can't get comfortable, and somehow in the middle of the night it's more miserable still - plus it's cold to be out of bed! Have you had any physio/massage to help relieve it? I wonder if it might take the edge off and allow you some rest.

holidays2010 · 09/12/2010 20:07

Well I think it was a one off - been ok since. I was getting dizzy spells before that episode so started eating more cereals fortified with iron. I think its helped.

Thats something we have to remember-we're carrying two so the demand for nutrients is doubled. Make sure you are getting alot of fruit and veg in!
Xmas Smile

tabbycat76 · 09/12/2010 23:24

Evening all!

In answer to your questions holidays, I definitely care about the state of 'downstairs' and I think it stems from my midwifery days seeing women who hadn't taken any care over it and thinking... how could you leave it to overgrow so to speak. Having said that, I was younger then, and had never experienced a pregnancy. My views have changed slightly but only to the degree of perhaps asking my hubby to trim for me. I wouldn't bother waxing (though normally I would). The other point to remember is that if you have a vb and need stitches afterwards, from a midwives pov it's very difficult to suture you back together with stray hairs here there and everywhere, and for the women, when you heal and the skin gets taught, so the hair will pull. I should imagine that'd be a bit hurty so for that reason too I'd trim. I'm certainly not going to be obsessed by trimming but I do feel better when it is.

As for the support belt. I asked my mw for a physio referral for a support belt as I get such a heavy feeling low down on my belly that I feel I could do with a bit of support. I have an appt on 16th with physio so fingers crossed they'll have a belt I can take away. I'll let you know how I get on.

Right, will take a good look in the mirror tonight before bed for any sneaky stretch marks that may have occured and passed my noticing!!!

Has anyone got their hospital bag sorted yet? I've yet to sort mine and have had a telling off from a friend of mine who's just had her twins. Bearing in mind I'm almost 30 weeks, I guess I should.
