Hi all,
So i finally may have found a few moments to tell you about the birth and how I'm getting on. I can't believe they're two weeks old tomorrow!
So I was meant to be induced on the Thursday but because i was having twins, they wouldn't do it on the antenatal ward - they had to wait for the space on the labour ward first. Eventually after arriving at 9am on Thursday, I got my space at 2am on Saturday and boy was I ready by then! It took them 2 hours of prodding around to monitor the heartbeats - one was so far back behind the other that the things they put on your stomach just weren't picking them up. It was quite worrying actually as I just assumed the worst. Plus the fact that they were pressing with the scanners and monitors so hard that they were pushing the acid out my stomach - I never knew heartburn til that night! Anyway, they put the gel on my cervix to get me started at 4am and i spent the entire day with varying levels of stressed staff trying to monitor the heartbeats - every time they found one they lost the other. And labour didn't kick in either, so at 9pm they came in and broke my waters, which was not pleasant - glad they gave me the gas for that. They put the IV drip in about midnight and that got the contractions going.
I lasted a couple of hours as I was, then started using the gas but by morning I was on another planet babbling crap and generally in a right state. I just remember DH and my mum giving me really worried looks, but i think they were just feeling helpless. The pain was like nothing I can describe and i was screaming for an epidural, which i got at about 11am Sunday morning. The guy took ages to do it and kept cursing about my weight (yes, they had warned me during my pregnancy it would make an epidural difficult). Finally it was in but not really having much of an effect - my back was still killing me. The contractions felt much less, but I found out it was because they paused the drip. After all this time it turns out i still wasn't in labour 'on my own' and an internal exam found me just 3cm dilated.
So the consultant suggested a c-section and I jumped at the chance and Dh got taken away to put on scrubs. But they decided the epidural wasn't strong enough and I needed a spinal block - same guy, same deal with struggling to put it in. To cut an already long story short, he couldn't get it in, I was distressed and in agony from his many attempts, and it was decided all round to give me a general anaesthetic.
So next thing I knew I was being woken up in the recovery room to see DH proudly standing over a cot with two beautiful babies all dressed up and wrapped in blankets.
Sorry, that was so long. Feels good to get it out though. I honestly have to say that it's going to take a lot of persuading to ever have any more children, happy though I am with the two I've got.
Anyhow, time for a feed - they sound like they're waking. Hope the rest of you still to sprog get it easier!!
