NM he is fantastically gorgeous you must be sooo proud.

Sorry for all you with ill dh's. A week before my dd was born 2 years ago, my dh fell 18ft from a ladder at work and shattered his leg. He was in hopsital in agony and immobile for ages. He was actually given gas & air and was screaming in pain at one point! When I was actually in labour he was in pain as well, so you can imagine not much help to me! It always seems these things happen at the worst time. I'm hoping he stays well this time as I need more support. (he also complains about being tired all the time and has a 'cold' at the moment, which no doubt will turn into flu before the days out ) Think men just like to share in the attention.

I've just got back from mothercare where we have spent more money (don't really need anything else, but it was all so cute!) It's nice buying stuff now as I know it'll only be at most a couple of weeks before I'll be using it.

No sign of labour yet,, but keeping fingers crossed.

Hope everyone stays as happy as possible (i know it's hard). October starts tomorrow...yippeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nervousmum · 30/09/2005 16:03

Thought i'd better start a post-natal club thread

October 2005 babies

Please join me asap so i don't feel like Billy No-Mates, chatting away to myself

And to the others before me who have had their babies (Joseyjo; Alterego; et al) where are you hiding on the post-natal threads or have you all joined the September one?

morningpaper · 30/09/2005 18:39

I found a study on average birth dates!

"When researchers in the late 1980s followed a group of healthy, white women with regular menstrual cycles, they discovered that pregnancy in first-time mothers averaged eight days longer than [forty weeks], or forty-one weeks plus one day. The average was three days longer than forty weeks in women with prior births."

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 30/09/2005 18:57

so i should pop this baby on the 24th oct then?!

Yeah right..... it will be before then!

grannygoose · 30/09/2005 19:48

Hello - I'm a first time mum to be due on 22 October. I must confess that I have been eavesdropping on your conversations for absolute ages. I finished work today, and hope to be able to spend more time chatting to all of you.

fastasleep · 30/09/2005 20:02

Wah I'm sick! It wasn't manflu! Luckily not pnuemonia though - yikes Jockey, I hope he gets well soon, I would be thinking 'typical man getting sick just in time for the birth' I'm such a grump! I'm currently hoping Sophia stays in while I get better, as DH has a raging chest infection...I can't cope with that and labour, argh! Hope no one else catches any manflu!

AWWWWWWWWW Joey looks so cute! Totally cherubic! Not like my little orange wrinkly baked potato of a baba last time you'll giggle at Sophia if she looks like DS! I'm glad you're a sniffer too NM, you'd be missing out otherwise - remember to keep a hat he's worn and don't wash it, wrap it in tissue or put it in a re-sealable bag, you'll find yourself sitting there 18 months later sniffing it and getting all teary eyed!

So then the waiting game, who's going to pop first in actual October! do they get a prize?

goes to look pathetic cos DH deserves it!

fastasleep · 30/09/2005 20:02

Hi GG! You're due a day after me, ooh ooh we could have a race

fastasleep · 30/09/2005 20:03

A day before me, what am I like, can't bring myself to say my own due date I want her out before then so much lol

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 30/09/2005 20:17

im 21st, GG 22nd and FA 23rd - a 3 horse race now!!!

mawbroon · 01/10/2005 08:06

OMG I went a whole day without looking at Mumsnet yesterday!! Welcome to Grannygoose.

Jockey - I hope your DH gets better soon.

Elf - I'll try to CAT you, but I haven't done it before so might have a bit of bother

My DH (and all his colleagues) got sent home from work at 11am yesterday as there was a big announcement of 300 redundancies. That is about 1 in 3 jobs. It won't actually happen until December/January, but what bloody timing. It is the nature of the industry he works in, but that is of little comfort to us just now. Just a case of wait and see.....

On the plus side, we spent his unexpected afternoon off getting the baby's room ready and ordered a wardrobe online. Once that is dealt with then that's it - ready as we'll ever be!!

mawbroon · 01/10/2005 08:13

Forgot to say. Today is OCTOBER!!! On your marks, get set.....

Elf I've just done the CAT thing and it says it worked, so hopefully it did!!

MB

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 01/10/2005 08:25

Mawbroon - i hope all works out ok re DH's job.

OMG - it IS october.... HOORAH!!!!!!! Only 20 days til im due then!!!

SusiS · 01/10/2005 10:13

gosh!! still nothing!
had quite some pains yesterday evening so about every 40 min; bump went rocksolid!!
but nothing

oh well, guess the babyhouse is just too comfy

how is everyone else doing??

Elf1981 · 01/10/2005 12:51

Mawbroon got your CAT. No worries. I'll either photocopy & post or may even be really effecient and type it up and email it to you! I'll let you know either way when I've done it.

Went out with my mum yesterday, wore some (sturdy) heals for the first time in weeks and about crippled myself. Queuing in Asda was a nightmare and I took my shoes off and put them in the trolley while packing my mums shopping bags! I have no shame anymore!

Mum & Dad took me and DH out for dinner which was nice. Got slightly upset when DH was talking about the day Boo will be born - him & his dad were going to "wet babies head" and now my dad is going, so is my 2 sisters and their partners, plus DH's uncle and no doubt lots of other people. Me and Mum sat there bit miserable as we'll be stuck in hosptial!

On upside, brought my mum a gorgeous Winnie the Pooh "new arrival" photo album, the front cover is like a photoframe, shows one pic, and holds 40 inside. So day Boo arrives, my oldest sis will be rushing to get pics developed and put in album for a surprise pressie for my mum.

Hope everybody is getting really excited as its OCTOBER!! woohoo!! Wonder who will be first to give birth in the due month... or if we'll have any born on their due dates!

morningpaper · 01/10/2005 14:47

Yay October! My official due date is TOMORROW although by my last period it should be Friday 5th at the earliest - I'm not really expecting action yet.

DH has taken dd away for the day - spent ages this morning wandering around the library choosing novels (got to have something to do at 3 a.m. during those hour-long feeds!) and wandering around the shops. They aren't back until this evening so I'm chilling out at home now!

alterego · 01/10/2005 16:27

Just wanted to reply briefly to morningpaper about efm. I come from a standpoint of having had efm with all my labours now and am fed up with it so have done a bit of research - here is just one viewpoint -
" many authorities specifically advise against using EFHM on young, healthy women who have no problem pregnancies and no prior history of birthing difficulty ... precisely because the use of EFHM significantly increases the risk of misdiagnosing fetal distress and performing an unnecessary surgical delivery (aka a cesarean). Many midwives oppose the use of EFHM not only because of its limited diagnostic value but because it limits the woman's mobility and is a potentially stressful distraction."
which comes from this website (near the end). Lots more on that page re.pros and cons of efm and what it actually tells you.

Boobs feeling much better now - although it does look like there are little chunks taken out of the end of my nips so hurts latching on but then OK. Think they will actually be better than with the previous two babies. (Hopeful).

Sorry to hear about your dh jockey - the last thing you need.

Nm - will come and find you. Didn't know anything about the postnatal threads actually - didn't think there was one ready for us yet and didn't want to go on September because I think of myself as an October mum.

fastasleep · 01/10/2005 16:30

Wah I'm even sicker.. no early labour for me, well not till I've finished with this horrible coldy chesty head explodey thing... I can barely get upstairs never mind push a baby out! Argh! About to go sneak back into bed I think... had a scary dream with a diary fluttering in the wind it landed on the pages for today and tomorrow and there was written - 'Giving birth on this day, or maybe tomorrow' woke me up with a start that did! (NOT happening lol)

Good luck with your due date MP! I think mine's about 7 days before my actual due date, but I forget exactly what I worked it out as!

alterego · 01/10/2005 16:33

My first baby was born when I had just got over the worst of a heavy cold. Midwives said it was very common for nearly due babies to make an appearance if mum hadn't been 100%

fastasleep · 01/10/2005 16:43

no no no no no alterego I'm scared! Glad your boobs are feeling better though, I remember the bitten nipples... ooouch

Quick someone hug me! Lol! I can't do labour in this state!

Crosses legs

Ok definately going to bed I just snotted all over my blankey... eww.

fastasleep · 01/10/2005 16:45

(Website about fetal monitoring etc very interesting though! Ok I'm goooiiing!)

alterego · 01/10/2005 16:54

Lol - I've scared you now, haven't I. Iirc I had stinky cold on Monday, gradually improving Tuesday - went into labour Tuesday pm and baby born Wednesday, by when I was feeling loads better. So honestly not a problem Butt off to bed with you, anyway.

Re. nipples - I don't think they're bitten cos it's just on the very ends - he doesn't grab on to that bit. I think they're just being heavily suctioned - it certainly feels that way [ouch]

fastasleep · 01/10/2005 16:57

Yep I got the red ended nipple thing when DS was being good, before my breastfeeding went er.. tits up expressing makes it three times worse, I actually developed blood blisters on them (my boobs have been through hell lol)

All right all right I'm so going to bed, maybe she will appear just as I'm feeling better

morningpaper · 01/10/2005 18:21

Oooh alterego we'll all be joining you soon with our poorly baps! I remember being shocked at how strong the baby's suction was - it literally felt like I was applying a Dyson to my boobs, it was grim.

Thanks for that info re constant EFM, I still don't know what the answer is really - I've been told that the hospital I'm due to give birth in no longer practices it, but I know there are always midwives who want it, and it will be largely the luck of the draw what kind of midwife I get... and whether I feel confident asking to not have it etc... Problem is also that DH works in that environment and he is in favour! GAH can't believe it's happening soon.

Fastasleep I had my daughter when I had a STINKING cold and cough - afterwards on the ward I felt like I was going to blow my vagina inside out every time I had a coughing fit!

triceratops · 01/10/2005 20:23

I remember the blood blisters, I had milk blisters too. Anyone who tells you that breastfeeding doesn't hurt at first has nipples of steel. It was all worth it in the end though .

Welcome to the board GG. It is so exciting.

I reckon either mp or SS is going to pop first. But anything could happen now.

BigBumpBonnie · 01/10/2005 21:29

Hellooo! Still here with bump! DH has got that nasty cold thingy and sneezing and sniffing all over the place. I was really trying to avoid catching it, but if it brings on labour,well........ My scan due date is 5th which is Wednesday but by lmp dates it's next Saturday which is a day before my poor ds birthday. I really didn't want to have 2 birthday's on the same day, but she'll come when she's ready!

I just want the birth over with and to start getting back to normal. I feel I've turned into a bit of a recluse lately and only go out when absolutely necessary. Looking forward to resuming a normal social life with dd.

My vote is on SS to be next closley followed by trice and then mp (then me!) Both my previous children were born on a Sunday so I'm holding out hope for tomorrow
