I haven't been offered it yet. Ignorant question - is flu in pregnancy bad news for the fetus? I work in a school so if something's going around, I will probably get it!

cep · 13/11/2010 10:01

millie that makes sense i'm right handed and tend to get the aches/pains more on my right.

wobble i wouldn't worry there's quite a few who fly in and out when they have the time. You're always welcome.

not sure about the flu jab, i wasn't offered it last time (and haven't this time as of yet.)but i had a really bad cold last time and all i could take was the paracetamol. My dh has it every year it always makes him feel awful for a week or so. to be honest i'm not sure what's worse. i don't think it's dangerous to the fetus you just feel bloody awful.

sasamaxx · 13/11/2010 10:12

I haven't been offered the flu jab yet. I think this is the first year pregnant women have been offered it since it now contains the swine flu vax.
No idea if normal flu is dangerous, but swine flu is dangerous for pregnant women so I'm assuming this is the reason.

Mummynumber2 · 13/11/2010 10:14

wobble of course you belong to this thread! I just have too much time on my hands so am able to read every day, but I think there are lots of people that dip in and out. It's great to have an update from everyone now and then. Especially when it's to report such good news about your scan! I hope your dp feels more confident to go along to the next scan with you.

I was wondering about the flu jab too. My gut feeling is to avoid it, but that's with absolutely no knowledge or evidence!

Clarkiee · 13/11/2010 10:28

I pop in and out too
What streesses me out is reading about the number of people worrying about not having ms!

I've not had any ms but I do have
sore boobs
bigger boobs
occasional lumpy boobs (tmi)
extreme tiredness
emotional times
sticky out stomach
queesyness
lose of appetite- or ravoness
big burps
weeing in the night
ligament pain thingy
sore gums
extra hair growing on my head (wierd)

which generally tells me I'm pregnant- and if I'm not then it wasn't meant to be (obviously I'd be completely devestated but worrying is not going to change a thing). I really feel for those suffering from ms- it sounds awful! I've spoken to several people who didn't have ms and the mw said it's total normal to not have it so please stop worrying and be grateful if you don't have itWink

Millie I took the flu shot when I went to register my pregnancy with my gp at 6wks. She offered it to me there & then. I didn't really have time to think or weigh it up but I simply said she is my healthcare adviser & I would follow her recommendations. She said to take it so I did.

mrsbigw · 13/11/2010 13:10

hello ladies, nice to see you wobble & clarkie , I don't always post depending on how rough I am feeling, & thanks for the good wishes clarkie sent for the sicky ones among us. Am with you on the lumpy boobs too but put that down to squashing my huge bazonkas into my normal pre-pg bras.Blush Just cannot face a trip to m&s & I know I need measuring. Hopefully we will all be sailing into a lovely 2nd trimester soon where we will forget how tiring & crappy the 1st few months are. Well we can but hope. Hmm I'm glad you are feeling less ill now sasamax, I have had some better days myself too but it's still hitting me hard in the evenings.

Sorry don't know anything about the flu jab but I won't be requesting it as I have managed without it so far & I don't have asthma or anything that would make me worry about flu.

Really should get out of my dressing gown & try to do something productive...maybe just another 30 minutes on the sofa 1st though. Wink

Sorry I have the Biggest case of mush for brains so really not managing to read through all the posts.

Barbie I hope things are looking a brighter for you today.

Hope everyone else is doing okay too. Gosh we'll be comparing bumps soon!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 13/11/2010 14:30

Just saws the flu jab question. I read recently that it's not recommended for the first 3 months of pg, so maybe that's why most of us haven't been offered it yet.

A quick pop as as my inlaws are here and don't think I can hide for too long!

Barbie - men are rubbish many times and the times they aren't being rubbish they are often being silly, immature and acting like an extra child (had to tell mine off in a pub today for winding the children up too much Blush). Come on here and slag him off, it soothes the soul and doesn't go any further which means you can say what you like Grin. When you've got it all out you can come back again and tell us nicer things about him :)

Wobble - hooray for the scan, great news. And as the others have said, dive in and out whenever you want, it's all good with us (that's the joy of forum friends, we tend not to hold grudges if you aren't around for a while!).

Sorry, I know there are others to say things to but can't remember at the moment and now need to go and entertain!

Enjoy the rest of your day ladies Grin

bananarama05 · 13/11/2010 16:33

Happy Saturday everyone :)

Looks like we've got a lot of banana loving bumps, I'm another. Saying that I've been drinking banana flavoured milk like there's no tomorrow lately!

NoMoreChocBiscuits I'm trying to convince myself my bump has already started...and it's not just the afore mentioned love of sugary milk thats done it!

mrsbigw thanks for the tip, will give MW another call next week as nothing in todays post either and try and get a number for the scan department direct.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend, dp and my dad are playing with the plumbing in our bathroom at present so am doing my best gag reflex practicing, think staying at work would have been preferable, it smells better there!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/11/2010 16:58

Congrats Wobblewatcher! It is a relief!
I had mine today!
Scan went well, saw baby bouncing lots, heard heartbeat. Baby EDD is 8th June :)
By LMP I am 9+6 I measured 10+3. Sonographer did say best to go by the 12 week scan though.
Feel relieved!

NurseSunshine · 13/11/2010 16:59

Congrats on the positive scan wobble, hope your DH comes with you next time.

banana I'm putting banana flavour stuff in milk as well, as I hate the taste of milk but want the extra calcium so the baby doesn't selfishly nick all mine, leaving me with oesteoporosis when I'm 35! I weighed up the pros and cons of sugar vs extra calcium and decided it was worth it.

cep, the 'flu jab wouldn't protect against a bad cold anyway. I'm not really sure about the flu jab, I'm of the opinion that unless you're at extra risk (e.g. asthamatic or elderly) there's no point, hardly anyone actually gets influenza, they just get a cold and think they've got 'flu.

Hope your inlaws aren't stressing you out knackered, at least you can escape by feigning ms and tiredness :)

Mummynumber2 · 13/11/2010 17:01

Congratulations kara! That's great news! Your due date's the day after mine.

NurseSunshine · 13/11/2010 17:02

congrats kara! That's great news Grin and you actually gained days instead of lost them! Bonus

79monica · 13/11/2010 17:25

Great news on the scan Kara!

I am another one who feels queasy most of the time but doesn't actually throw up. The worst place for it is Tesco's, two weeks in a row I have ended up just leaning on the trolley, breathing deeply and telling DH that I don't care what we eat for tea this week, just hurry up and put something in the trolley!!

DH is being lovely at the moment and is very excited about the baby. He grins at me constantly and is always sneaking a look at any babies which we see when we are out. Last night started listing all of the cravings which he would choose to have if he was pregnant. The top one was cookies and cream Haagen Dazs icecream on toast!

NurseSunshine · 13/11/2010 17:44

Lol! I haven;t had cravings, more reverse-cravings where I can't stand the thought of eating something. I did dream I was eating purple chalk the other night. So I'm probably deficient in either calcium, or, well, purple Grin

Mummynumber2 · 13/11/2010 17:52

Just seen a that a very nice lady is offering to give away her unused birthing pool. Know a couple of people were talking about getting one so thought I'd let you know!

Lol nurse, you don't want to be deficient in purple! I'm with you on the food aversions, there's so few things I can eat!

Mummynumber2 · 13/11/2010 17:53

Sorry, meant to say the birthing pool is on a thread in the childbirth section!

petitech · 13/11/2010 18:12

Hello ladies... on the subject of flu jab, I had mine as was offered and have been absolutely fine and had a scan since and no problems, I just figured my boss would be getting frustrated enough with me having time off for appointments and everything without then getting a bad dose of the flu. Not forgetting the health risks. My mid wife said that it's wise to get it but as with everything, down to personal choice I guess.
Am in middle of watching strictly and doing tesco shop online, so hard to decide what I fancy.... any inspiration?! x

sasamaxx · 13/11/2010 18:23

I think I will get the flu jab simply because pregnant women are at increased risk of developing complications with swine flu. I keep thinking back to last winter when our local hospital wards were full of pregnant women with swine flu - it really scares me Sad

Thanks for nice words mrsbigw - I've been feeling pretty terrible this afternoon but it didn't kick in until 2pm so I think it's getting later.

Can't wait for x factor tonight - I have a bottle of white grape schloer chilling in the fridge - how sad Grin
