Oh foureyes that sounds annoying :(
Try and enjoy your extra couple of nights sleep though!

vix agree with the others, it does get better but for now the best thing you can do is feed and feed and feed. I've read (and it certainly seemed true for DD) that 11lbs is when they seem to settle a bit more / maybe even sleep through, so try and get there asap! You should hopefully find that a routine starts to develop on it's own after a while.

Don't tiptoe around in the day though, make normal household noises and keep it fairly light, not darkened rooms, then there is a clear difference between night and day for them for when they start to notice such things. You'll be surprised at what babies can sleep through and it's useful if they become heavy sleepers!

wow lots of ladies who are maybe getting started, good luck to you all!

nothing to report here, tho madame has been wriggling lots and making me very uncomfortable today.

re babies, routines and sleep, i just co-slept with the madboys and fed on demand, they do get there eventually, i was never one to force a routine on them, tho as they got older they all had a bedtime routine.

the only one who had more of a proper routine was ds4 and that was his own doing!

with madame i shall just go with the flow, esp once you have more than one they do just have to sort of fit in....

i echo what privet says about differentiating between night and day, and that babies can sleep through a lot!

PrivetDancer · 15/11/2010 21:54

and the other advantage of doing that is that it might tip the balance to getting more feeds in the day if the baby is not sleeping quite as soundly in the day and therefore not need quite so much in the night. who knows though :)

grinningbee the traffic was fine, DH and I caught tram to near where PILs are staying and they drove us there. It was certainly the most focussed Ikea trip I've ever had as had several painful contractions while there and constant back and lower abdomen ache.
Do we have the same DH? Everytime I lost him I'd find him with the soft toys or he and his dad would be throwing the soft-toy rats over the wardrobes at me and MIL! We managed to get out without buying one this time. Although we did get a very fluffy rug so maybe that was his soft-toy substitute :)

Foureyes how frustrating for you. I hope it does give you time to get over your illness though.

Off to have bath. TENS machine and paracetemol at the ready in case there is a repeat of last night, but I think I've just resigned myself to the fact this could last all week and then some. Sigh.

comtessa · 15/11/2010 21:57

Oh, and does anyone know if hot baths are okay at this stage of pregnancy, rather than the usual lukewarm?

mumcha · 15/11/2010 22:30

Hi i actually am surprised ive got a good sleeper this time the other boys always got up every 2 hrs during the night.Dont know if its because im using formula and not feeding on demand like so many of you[who i admire]i just couldnt do it .

Vix7 · 16/11/2010 00:06

thanks for all the advice re: sleep routine ladies!

i asked cos i read this: www.gurgle.com/articles/Sleep_Bedtime/35777/Your_guide_to_routines.aspx

and there's a sample routine for 0-3m. and my bub is nowhere near that!

she has anywhere from 12-15 feeds in a 24h period, sometimes every hour for a 3-4h period. i am exhausted!

gaaah....on with the on-demand feed, if i don't drop of exhaustion first!

Fenouille · 16/11/2010 04:34

Hi vix sounds similar to our little noodle. He'll feed once an hour from about 8pm til midnight, and during the day will often have two feeds within an hour of each other and then nothing for 2 or 3 hours. It's starting to drive me a little loopy :)

foureyes that's really annoying, I hope that's the last delay for you.

jenni I went to 41+6 so I've got my fingers crossed for an earlier appearance from yours :)

applegirl · 16/11/2010 07:12

Morning all.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals! I've not been on for a while, but have been checking in occasionally as it's so reassuring to see everyone going through the same trials and tribulations!

I'm 40+6 today, and trying to remain patient, although it's starting to wear thin... thought things were kicking off on Sunday, with mild contractions most of the day every half an hour, but they fizzled out in the evening... then yesterday evening things got more intense and a bit painful every 10 mins or so, but again, it all fizzled out by the time I went to bed :(

I am hopeful these are all good signs, with the body gearing up for the big event... fingers crossed :) It's just hard to know when you haven't been there before!

umf · 16/11/2010 08:33

Vix that sounds very normal for this stage. IME no-one quite admits to you in advance what a massive job ebf is. Cluster feeding in the evening is common and should mean that he starts sleeping more at night, after filling up well. So it will will will get better!

umf · 16/11/2010 08:35

Eek, just read that gurgle article! I have never ever seen a breastfed newborn do anything like that. If they did, I would have at least 4 children by now.

comtessa · 16/11/2010 09:46

AAARGH! So contractions started again this morning - very painful, and about five minutes apart, but now I've got up have eased off significantly.

Sigh. (Self-indulgent post over. As you were.)

sarahbuff · 16/11/2010 09:54

Hey ladies! 41 weeks today and nothing doing at the moment. Seeing the midwife today and she offered to give me a sweep today if nothing's happened so we'll see if that starts anything off! Hope feeding improves for those having a tough time!

applegirl · 16/11/2010 10:38

comtessa I totally sympathise! My midwife said last week that all the tightenings etc. count though, it's all good hopefully :) Just wish it would get going properly too though!!!

sarahbuff good luck with the sweep. I have a MW appt on Thurs and wonder if they will offer the same if nothing happens before, as I too will be 41 weeks tomorrow... keep us posted! :)

umf · 16/11/2010 10:51

Good luck Comtessa! Sounds like it will be getting going properly in next few days, if not today. Rest now!! Labour is like running marathon.

Sarah hope sweep works!

39 weeks here now and getting a bit impatient. SPD much better so another walk today to try and shake him down. Well, by "walk" I mean a short waddle up to a cafe. Who was that still doing 10k last week?? Respect.

JFly · 16/11/2010 11:33

Comtessa, it is a frustrating time! I can't believe all your niggles are still just niggles. But it's true that at least something is going on and your body is working on it. Won't be long now, surely! :)

Turns out I don't have DS's chest infection, I have viral laryngitis. So no anti-b's, just an inhaler to help with the chest tightening. Nasty business! DH home again (but doesn't seem to mind, really) today to help out and poor DS watching yet more TV. I feel so bad for not getting him out and about, but I've had no energy. Dr says I'm lucky to get sick now Hmm, as I'll be well in two weeks time. Cause we all know babies never come early.

Oh yes, I remember the snacky, frequent feeds DS did as a newborn. If you just have the one DC, then you have the luxury of sitting on the sofa feeding all day. It is still tiring, though, don't get me wrong! Not sure what I'll do if DC2 is like that! Probably won't get fed as often, I imagine. Blush

I think DS was quite "good" and mostly had 2 feeds a night. Everyone here talks sense, it does settle down and they will probably get into more of a routine at some stage. It takes some time to get bf established. But don't stress about it, enjoy the time with them. Newborn stage soon goes!

comtessa · 16/11/2010 11:52

Thanks all, contractions are still coming now at least every ten minutes. Hoping this will lead to something. Going to potter upstairs now and maybe have a nap - at the risk of slowing things down. Hope everyone else is well. Good news about the no antibiotics JFly, hope you feel better soon.

cluelessnchaos · 16/11/2010 11:54

Went for a sweep this morning, mw called to book me in for an induction and because of my history they have decided to call me in today, so I am off to the hospital to be induced, eeeeek. See you on the other side.

Just had a teary moment as dh ferrying children to various places dd1 (13) ran back into the house to give me ahug, I havent had an impromptu hug from her for at least a year since she became cool.

comtessa · 16/11/2010 12:06

That's great news clueless and sharing your teary moment about your DD. (Hormones, sigh).

Hope it all goes absolutely to plan and you have your new DC here soon.

hmmSleep · 16/11/2010 12:19

Good luck Clueless and comtessa!

sarahbuff, I had a sweep at 38 weeks with Ds and he arrived that day, so fingers crossed for you!

sarahbuff · 16/11/2010 12:43

Well, had the sweep (baby is still 3/5 engaged 3 weeks running), cervix is soft and starting to efface and 3cm dilated so all looks/sounds good... I'm hopeful!

grinningbee · 16/11/2010 12:44

Good luck Clueless and hope the labour becomes well and truely established for you soon Comtessa. Maybe you should have another Ikea trip!

Well. I had my last mw appointment today at 40+3, and now feel very much in limbo. In fact, I've had a cry for about an hour, starting while I was still with her. She says she cannot do a sweep until 41 weeks, and as the hospital want to see me at 41+2 anyway there is no point. Not that they will do anything then - it's just to discuss things.

So, here I am. Hey ho.

Oh, and she says the baby is big. I'm still measuring waaaaaaaaay ahead. Sad Did I mention the stretchmarks that are over 1cm wide too...

PrivetDancer · 16/11/2010 12:47

Good luck clueless and comtessa!!

Nothing here, all twinges completely gone and I slept in til 9.30 this morning. Bliss!

The £1 coin has been returned by DD though! Bit of a relief all round :)

OP posts:
JFly · 16/11/2010 13:09

Good luck, clueless! That is very sweet of your DD and would make me blub at this stage.

Ooh, comtessa, sounds good! Keep those cx coming! Not sure about a "hot" bath, think you still might need to be careful of raising your core body temp. Walk up and down the stairs sideways. Supposed to open up the pelvis or something. Bounce/roll on gym ball? I found resting my chest over the ball whilst squatting comfortable and I think helps with position, too.

Privit, very please to hear £1 coin has passed (ahem) to the other side. Hopefully not painful for DD?

JFly · 16/11/2010 13:14

Mibby, how are things going? Hope you're snuggled up with baby.
