Morning ladies.. sounds like things are moving in the right direction for a few of you! Fingers crossed for quick and easy labours for you all. Will check back later for updates!

39+4 (and nothing doing Envy ) Smile

grinningbee · 15/11/2010 08:54

Congratulations Cardicorgi and Boris!

Still nothing going on here. Went to our old local pub yesterday, and someone walked in, looked at me and said in an accusatory tone "what are you doing here?". I calmly replied "having a drink" (twas non-alcoholic too, just like it is all the time) and she said she thought I should be having the baby. No shit! Hmm Maybe people think once you get to this stage you should stay in and wait... and slowly go round the twist

Anyway. Finally got my hospital bag packed yesterday, and just need to bung some toys and clothes in a bag for dd for when we have to drop her off.

Whenever the heck that might be anyway! Mw appointment tomorrow, and the good news is that she owes me a penny as she bet on me being early. Ha!

40+2

P.S The pound coin incident sounds a bit scary, and I don't relish the search for it after its journey either Wink

comtessa · 15/11/2010 09:04

Morning - anything happening with you Privet? Contractions about ten minutes apart for about 20 - 30 secs from 3am to 6pm. Managed to sleep about 6.45 and woke up a short time ago. Bump still hard as a rock but contractions have eased - sigh. Not sure whether to go back to bed or to try some active labour positions to get things going again. DH just called into work to say he wouldn't be in today but I've half a mind to send him in now as it will only take him 15 minutes to get home again or to the hospital. Hmm. Hope things are progressing for you lainey and privet, and anyone else, of course.

JFly · 15/11/2010 09:21

Comtessa, sounds like things are getting going. Proper labour does often start in the lower back. If you can't shift it by moving around/walking and pains intensify and get closer/longer then you're in labour. If things ease off with movement or you get erratic pains/intervals, then could be false labour.

If it's any help, I called the labour ward about 14 hours after my first contractions started. By that stage I was having about 3-4 STRONG contractions in 10 minutes. MWs like to hear you out of breath and in pain before they tell you to come in! Wink When I got to hospital, I was 6cm, and in active labour. No chance of being sent home then!

BUT, if you are worried or think things are progressing faster or just want reassurance, call labour ward of course. They will ask you questions and tell you what to do.

Good luck everyone with niggles and cx!! SO exciting.

37+6 (and no voice b/c have hideous cough/sickness from DS. BLEH.)

JFly · 15/11/2010 09:25

Sorry, was lainey with back pain! Anyhoo, it is a sign of labour. I never had a show nor did my waters break, so cx alone can signal real labour.

Privet, so sorry about your day in the A&E! Hope DD is feeling better and you have a little breather in between trips to the hospital!

comtessa · 15/11/2010 09:30

Thanks JFLy I did eventually call the labour suite at about 5.30am this morning. They gave me same advice as you! Just wishing that my waters would break (but not on lovely new stair carpet Grin ) so I could have a definite sign. Oh - feeling things again! Off to go walk around and monitor self. And get DH to work out TENS machine.

PrivetDancer · 15/11/2010 09:32

Thanks! We have kept her off nursery today to do nappy inspections, but she is right as rain.

No, nothing doing here, since getting up and pootling around they have gone away and am feeling quite normal again now. Boring!

OP posts:
JFly · 15/11/2010 09:42

Ah yes, get the TENS out. I wore mine from about 12 hrs on and think they took if off me in theatre! I doubt it did much good after I got to hospital, but was helpful and distracting at home. Sitting on the loo a bit helped, too, towards the end before we headed off to hospital.

Disclaimer: I had a doula with me at home/hospital and I'm certain I would have gone to hospital sooner if she hadn't been there. So don't worry about feeling panicky or like you want to go to hospital "too soon". I think that is totally natural. My doula helped me through to the point where I had to go to hospital. Otherwise, I may have gone in earlier.

comtessa · 15/11/2010 09:49

That's helpful, thanks JFly. Also, think I may give my usual MW a quick call to see whether she thinks the - ahem - dampness needs futher investigation and whether it could be leaky waters. Have a feeling my mum never had her waters break in a gush.

lainey1981 · 15/11/2010 10:25

morning all, all gone a bit quiet here, after pacing round the house with y back pain, eventually got to sleep about 3.30 and everything seems to have died down since then. ho hum!
Guess the only thing that I am consoling myself with (perhaps foolishly) is that any work my body does now, it won't be wasted when in proper labour??
jfly back pain has gone now but was sooo painful I have never been driven from my bed with back pain before. I wonder though if me going to bed last night when I did just stopped everything. It's so hard as a first timer, especially when you have a sister who thinks she is the queen of labour and convinces you everytime you talk that you are in labour and starts predicting time of birth Hmm
feel niggly still and stomach has been rock hard for last 24 hrs which is odd but reckon this could go on for days.
privet & comtessa hope things move along for you today, fingers crossed. comtessa def ring the midwife - not sure if you read my post on friday but had the same dampness and went in and got assessed, it turned out only to be random dampness (aka watery discharge) but the midwifes said any leaking has to be checked.
plus if your 'lucky' they'll strap you to a trace monitor, tell you you are contracting and get you all excited only for nothing to happen like me Wink

good luck. will check in again later x

JFly · 15/11/2010 10:33

That must be so very frustrating lainey! Some people say, "oh, you will just KNOW when you are in labour." I think that's rubbish, though. I wonder if it's when you are in established labour that you have the classic signs that make you say "I am now officially in labour". (And some people never get those signs and end up having their baby in the car park! Kidding!)

Pre-labour can go on and on and on, I have read. But everyone is different, so look for signs that it is progressing, that is the key. Easing off might mean that you are getting ready for it all but maybe not quite there. Yet. We all get there eventually, one way or another!

Obviously I have too much time on my hands, dispensing advice (or assvice, as I like to call it). I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore, but I suppose I'd rather give birth without suffering with a chest infection so can wait a bit longer. Still I have a feeling I may be the last on the thread!

comtessa · 15/11/2010 11:25

Thanks Lainey have called MW and left message - hopefully will get a call back soon-ish. Things still happening here but slow and sporadic. Am cracking on with housework to try and distract myself. And debating whether to ask PILs to come round as FIL will want to put pram together for me. Have sent DH to work with promise to call him if/when it gets to ten minutes apart and painful.

Hope things kick off for you again Lainey and Privet. Thanks for the "assvice" JFly.

Back to the pie-baking to keep me upright and busy.

grinningbee · 15/11/2010 14:26

Any news Comtessa? It's been three hours since you last posted... not that I have time on my hands or anything Grin

Hopefully you are off having your baby Smile

Where is everyone else today?

Vix7 · 15/11/2010 15:00

hullooooo

almost 2 week old K is doing well bfg-wise. this on-demand feeding is wreaking havoc with mom's sleep tho. someone pls tell me it gets easier/better.

anyone hv advice on when's a good time to try n start baby on sleep routine?

all those in pre-labour/labour, sending safe n smooth delivery vibes!!

mumcha · 15/11/2010 16:03

Hi all well just giving an update Oliver has slotted in well with us all big brothers adore him. He is such a good wee sleeper only awakes between 1-2 am then thats him till 7 or 8 just hope it lasts :).Congrats to everyone thats had their babies and hope everyone else will have safe labours and they start soon x

grinningbee · 15/11/2010 16:08

Hi Vix yes, it does get easier Grin IMHO it is a little early to be thinking of any sort of routine yet, but that's just me. There may be others who'd say to try.

JFly · 15/11/2010 17:02

Oh yes, still a bit early to think about sleep training, I would say. He won't start to differentiate between night and day until around 6 weeks, so sleep until then is "as and when". So, sleep when baby sleeps is the best rule! And it does get easier, but I would think "sleep training" would need to wait until the 3-4 month mark at the soonest. And who knows, you're LO might be one of those golden babies that sleeps through from early on. I've heard of those babies but I don't believe they exist....:)

Apart from mumcha, who seems to have one well on its way to being a real star sleeper!

comtessa · 15/11/2010 17:22

Not much happening here grinningbee. Still getting Braxton Hicks type feelings but over bump, not in pelvis like I was getting in the night. Just got up and showered after managing about two hours sleep so feeling much better. Now off to Ikea with PIL to buy wardrobe. Hoping that'll help things along and taking hospital bag just in case Grin.
Little one still wriggling away so no concerns there.

grinningbee · 15/11/2010 17:32

Good god woman are you insane? Won't the traffic be horrific?

Mind you, I suppose if your waters go they may give you some freebies GrinGrin

I always see loads of things I don't need when I go... and dh always ends up buying himself dd a cuddly toy Hmm

llandb · 15/11/2010 17:33

Hello all - and congrats to any new mums!

My laptop is kaput until the new part DP (techie expert) has ordered arrives - am borrowing his work one. So I'm not sure when I'll get to catch up on the thread :(

Just glancing at this page - another one here who has had some rather intense Braxton Hicks for past few weeks...

And last night woke in the early hours with definite contractions! Got up to time them and they went away. Then more of the same this morning. So I phoned the delivery unit and the midwife pretty much said, either something will happen in 6-8 hours, or it won't. Didn't think it worth placing a bet :o

All went away, so a whole lot of nothing

Just off to wrap Xmas presents for the various kiddos we know (as I doubt I'll get a chance between the baby's arrival and xmas). It's not nesting - it's 'oh yikes I have a deadline - panic!'

See ya, bumps and babes :)

Jenni363 · 15/11/2010 17:59

Well I'm now 41 weeks, 8 days over my DD and no sign of the baby arriving...

MF visited me at home yesterday to do a sweep... outch that was very painful. She didn't quite manage to reach the cervix... i was left with peroid like cramps and spotting but nothing else... Having another sweep on wednesday at the hospital and will be booked in for an induction at the weekend if she hasn't arrived by then...

Hurry baby hurry!

Jenni363 · 15/11/2010 18:04

PS I'm loving all the Scandinavian names! Being one I managed to convince my southern hemisphere DP to name our daughter to be after a Viking Goddess Grin

hmmSleep · 15/11/2010 19:32

Vix7 Lootie is 4 weeks tomorrow and showing no sign of improving sleep wise yet, still waking every 2 hours to feed night and day, and I'm still sleeping holding her (co-sleeping cot not popular). Probably not what you want to hear but if I remember rightly it didn't improve until about 6 months with my other 2! People keep asking me if I'm Ok in a concerned manner on the school run, think I look most zombie like.

FourEyesGood · 15/11/2010 19:42

Warning: self-pitying post through and through!

Went in for my pre-op appointment this afternoon in preparation for my C-section tomorrow. It was really reassuring and made me feel pretty good about the whole thing.

Then I got a call from the hospital to say the op's going to have to be put back until Thursday, so now I have to rearrange childcare and wait.

Still, I suppose this gives DS more of a chance to recover from his illness before his sister arrives.

umf · 15/11/2010 21:30

foureyes how frustrating!! It's a big enough deal to face the surgery + new baby, without uncertainty about when it's going to happen. A friend who was being induced had a lot of this: call at 6am to see if can fit her in, no, call back at 1pm and see if it's this afternoon... Gah.
