Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 17:32

Oh and I should have said that she refused to tell us her price range so we assumed £140 was roughly about right.

OK, that's it from me on this.

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 18:06

zero sounds like a v reasonable price to me - and it's not like you're expecting her to pay for all of it if she doesn't want to. I've found MILs can be very odd about baby things - mine changes her mind about what she's going to buy for me weekly, which drives me mad!

Btw - have spent the entire afternoon researching girls names - honest opinions on ophelia, rosalind or penelope? (all only maybes at this stage but not sure about what other people think of them)

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 18:11

he he he. was looking up comments on the name ophelia on mn and found a comment saying something like 'fine so long as your surname's not bottom'. Really made me LOL. I love MN [hgrin]

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 18:25

Ah thanks angels I love having the support of you lot.

Of those three, personally I am least keen on Penelope (although I don't hate it) but I like Rosalind and Ophelia. Bear in mind that Rosalind would probably be shortened to Ros/Roz (?) at some point. And Ophelia is good, but your surname isn't Bottom... is it....?

EauRouge · 30/10/2010 18:27

Congrats on having a girl angels. Love love love Ophelia and Rosalind! They're not on our list now because we have Lysander as a boys' name and we might look a bit Shakespeare obsessed Blush but Rosalind was on the shortlist for DD. Penelope is lovely too, Penny's a cute nn. They all work well for babies and adults and have good nn potential. You have excellent taste Grin

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 18:32

lol zero. Luckily not. I'm quite liking ophelia and rosalind. I don't like ros though - I was thinking to shorten it to rosa. I'm also liking arwen, primrose, violet, hazel, beatrice, lavinia, hermione, elodie and mirabel (as you can see, I've been very busy in my research!). Not sure if some are a bit...too unusual though. Lots and lots to think about [hhmm]

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 18:37

love Beatrice

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/10/2010 18:39

Evening everyone, hope you're all well.

angels huge congrats on your pink happiness! Smile Trust your little girl to be playing hide and seekWink
I really like Ophelia and Rosalind, not so sure about Penelope but I like Penny as a nn.

Been out all day when only meant to go and buy some baby socks (they make me feel so funny inside!). Spent far too much money but have some beautiful new pjs that have a button down top so will be good for bf (fingers crossed as no women in my family have been able to bf). Think my ds now has more socks than me... Hmm

Does anyone know where I can find some plain (as in without pictures of flippin tigger etc) cotton or corduroy dark brown/ navy dungarees, for a baby boy? Have been looking everywhere but can't find any. I don't really want denim as it's quite hard and want to put him in some as a newborn.

Ah well, off to watch Harry H then X factor (if I don't fall asleep)...

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 18:47

needtosleep found these cord ones

www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+Trousers-Dungarees-Cord-Dungarees+B5174

which look really sweet and a few different colours. I just saw some of the baby dresses on the jojo maman bebe and got sooooo excited at how cute they looked - I want to buy up the whole shop [hwink]

EauRouge · 30/10/2010 18:48

NeedToSleep, I'm sure you'll have no problems BF, you can join a support group before your DC is born so that you can get prepared. I go to a LLL group that's really good, they have them all over the country. Try here.

I got some plain beige cord dungarees for DD in Boots (they did have a tiny little teddy bear on) but it's hard to find anything that's not pink or blue. You could try ebay, you can search by colour and fabric on there.

EauRouge · 30/10/2010 18:50

I can never resist looking for baby clothes on ebay Grin are these any good?

smallblackflowers · 30/10/2010 20:18

Hello all - I've not posted in ages (but have been lurking) as have been to exhausted to do anything other than the absolute minimum in the evenings. DD (at 20 months) has learned how to throw up, and had been coughing herself sick in the middle of the night for most of the last week, meaning lots of sheet/pyjama changing. DH is working away for most of the week and I'm working full time. Killer.Thankfully have now had 2 good nights, and an extra hour in bed this morning so can now function again!!

angels fab news about your little girl, am loving all of your names too - my 10 week old niece is Primrose.

I am a little scared of baby boy clothes, and can't bring myself to buy any. I think DS will be in babygros for quite a while before I brave the world of dungarees and quite grown up looking tops. Also agree with Eaurougue about ebay, have had some wonderful baby clothes buys over the last 2 years. Am currently selling the changing bag that came with my new travel system - it ends tomorrow and has no bids [hsad]

zero not at all unreasonable. My mattress was about the same price as the cot as went for the best one - paid just under £200 in total, and that's for a cot and not a cotbed, and I'm generally a bit of a spendthrift. Perhaps your MIL can contribute her £100 to the cot fund instead! I hope your GP can offer some advice to help your back/pelvic pain. From your description it sounds like SPD or pelvic girdle dysfunction as GPs now like to call it.

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 20:22

Congrats on the girl darkangel how exciting, my favourite is Violet, thinks it very pretty.

For what it's worth zero I think you are well within your rights to choose whatever furniture you want. A cot bed is a far better investment imo and a decent mattress for that alone can cost £70+ so why not ask her just to make a contribution. Or find something else you want for £100 and suggest that to her. Firmly but fairly. Is DH in agreement with you?

Am watching TXF and think Aidan is just a bit weird...

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 21:09

smallblackflowers Thank you... I really don't want it to be spd (obviously) but I'm beginning to think it could be... or something like it.

40weeks yes, DH is in total agreement with me most of the time re. MIL as he has problems with her too. He still has some issues about his childhood, which definitely wasn't an easy one, although to be fair to MIL she was a single parent and did try her best. She's just gradually become increasingly difficult after so many years of being on her own (she's never had a partner since FIL left her decades ago).

Am I the only person who thought that Mary was surprisingly weak this week on the x factor? Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same performances as the judges.

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 21:43

Well as long as it won't cause arguments between you and DH then I would say hold your groud and don't feel bad.

I know what u mean about Zzzz Factor, I think One Erection are too cheesy but they seem to love them, although also think Simon is putting some serious spin on it all to get a nice fat contract for them!

Also, if you do go for cot bed John Lewis have a good selection. Good luck with MIL!

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 21:44

Sorry, good selection of mattresses!

SlaughteredSheep · 30/10/2010 21:53

Hello all! [hhmm]

Angels, I'm so happy that you were able to find out the sex! [hgrin] Congratulations on your little girl! I think my favourite out of those three names is Rosalind. I like Ophelia but the Ophelia Cox/Ophelia Bottom comments on MN have put me off!

A name that I absolutely love is Delilah but DH wouldn't let me use in a million years! I also like Gabriella and Auriella but DH vetoed them so we're going with our original choice!

Zero, no that's not an unreasonable price for a cot/cotbed! Make sure that you go for the one that you want too, as if you don't you might regret it, particularly if you get a cotbed as the little one might be in it for a long time.

Argos do some quite good deals on Nursery furniture. My mum got us a cotbed, wardrobe and changing unit plus mattress for £300 for DD and it's still going strong. We're going to use it for the new baby and buy DD new.

SlaughteredSheep · 30/10/2010 21:54

PMSL at "One Erection!"

SlaughteredSheep · 30/10/2010 21:56

The [hhmm] face at the beginning of my first post was supposed to be [hsmile]! [hblush]

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 22:17

I'm not too keen on One Direction, if I was about fifteen I might feel differently. It's all about Matt this year! :)

SlaughteredSheep · 30/10/2010 22:26

I thought that Cher was quite good tonight! I usually can't STAND her, far too cocky but I thought she sang well, to be fair.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/10/2010 23:42

Thank you angels and EauRouge, the jojo ones are the ones I wanted but for some reason didn't think they came in a 0-3 mnths, and I've put in my bid for the ones on ebay (fingers crossed as only thing I've been successful with on there was a dress that was 'buy now' Hmm )

I only wanted a couple of things as 'day wear' for ds as I agree with keeping babies as babies for as long as possible and babygros are so gorgeous and soft.

I love the names elodie and hazel, have taught a number of elodies in the past (French school) and they've all been wonderful so might be a good omen Grin

After an unfortunate incident whilst laughing at Harry Hill tonight I seriously considered having the halloween name of ByeByeBladder which doesn't sound scary but is in reality Blush and as if that wasn't enough I've started getting comments about bump shape/ size, grrr Angry

I love Rebecca and Paige in X factor, like slaughtered I normally can't stand cher but she was better tonight, I think Belle Amie will be waving goodbye tomorrow (or Aiden, hopefully).

smallblackflowers · 31/10/2010 07:04

I agree that Cher was good - what is she doing with all that shouty rappy stuff when she can actually sing!
zero I'm a Matt fan too - he's so adorable [hgrin], and agree with the One Erection Grin comments too - and think they all look about 12.

needtosleep get doing those pelvic floor exercises - I do mine religiously (in the car on a certain stretch of road on my way to and from work)and to this point (pg with DC #2) have not had any 'incidents'...touch wood that this will continue.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 31/10/2010 08:49

Morning SBF, have been doing the kegel ones but maybe not as much as necessary, will up my daily regime! Grin. I was thinking that the standard of female singers is really good this series but the males are actually quite bad...

Last extra hour in bed and couldn't sleep, been awake since 4.15am (or 3.15 in BST), good practice I suppose Wink but is anyone else suffering from insomnia?

darkangels1 · 31/10/2010 08:55

Phew - glad a few of you like some of my potential name choices - I was worried they might be a bit odd. We are now trying to find a name on my list that DH can pronounce without it sounding bad - he has a londoner type accent, so when he says 'mirabel' (one of our ideas) it comes out 'miwa-bewl', which makes me cringe a little, so I think this will have to be a main consideration to our name.

DH seems to have got much more excited about baby since scan yesterday - he said it feels like a real person now, and I think I feel the same. Although, had a horrible horrible dream last night that I had the baby really prematurely and then it died. I know this is common, but it's also so upsetting. Felt really :(

I saw bits of X factor last night and think I'm the only one not to be so impressed by Cher - it as better than her usual but I thought there were really good bits but also really wobbly bits too - was really suprised how fabuous the judges thought it was.

Off to collect cot from BIL today :)
