Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wigglesrock · 29/10/2010 20:40

40wickedweeks yes this is no 3, we have a Renault Scenic 2002, according to Mr Wiggles it's old skool!!, have had a look re room in back and we should be fine, dd1 is in booster seat, dd2 is in car seat, but fighting to get into booster seat, we still have great baby car seat from dd2 and have checked and all fits. The boot absolutely fab, best bit of the car!!

Thank angels for starting new thread, can't believe how fast time is flying by, dd2 is 3 tomorrow and remember thinking once I got to her birthday there was only 3.5 months to go Shock

Ledkr glad you got to see so much at scan, I am slightly nervous about seeing midwife next week, think I may have been overdoing it and am waiting for telling off at least, if not a signing off!!

We have had this years most popular baby names in NI for a while, names very much the same but I think Katie and Jack are still No1.

JustOneMorePlease · 29/10/2010 21:39

Hello all! Sorry about being a deserter for so long! We have moved house and have had no broadband for ages!
Then thought I'd wait for the new thread to pop up again!
Sorry to hear that some of you are struggling with sore backs etc. My pelvis isn't great but it is dc4 so I guess it is par for the course. I'm a physio and we are the worst patients, have the worst posture etc so I'll just grin and bear it!
When I had my scan they put my date back from 17th to 21st feb and we didn't find out the sex! Are you still doing the stats regularly? If so I'll have to update them.
I am sticking my fingers in my ears/hands over eyes when reading how little time we all have left to go. It is flying by and this is my last one so I want to enjoy every minute!
Happy Halloween to you all! I have a brood of excited kiddies Inc a little skeleton, a wizard and a very cute scary fairy for a party we are going to tomorrow night. Even considered wearing a short top and painting my whopper belly as a pumpkin- that would def scare someone!

Take care all!

hornedtoadjennyp · 29/10/2010 21:55

Lol at pumpkin belly! [hgrin]

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 07:30

Arrr angels of course I didn't mean you!!

Thanks wiggles for car info, we are looking at Grand Scenic and Grand Picasso, everyone I know that has a Scenic loves it but dh likes the Picasso so just depends on what is available.

We aren't doing much for Halloween this year which is a shame as I love it, so have fin everyone else, loving the pumpkin belly Justonemore! I have to get the car and pushchair ready for someone coming to view both to buy. All week have been asking dh to get stuff from loft so I can wash the covers, but has he done it!!?? Has he 'eck!

ledkr · 30/10/2010 08:23

Well i hate you angels so there!!
Hope you enjoy the scan today and get to see some genitalia :o
I am always up so early now. I wake up and have run out of comfy positions both hips are achey and cant lie on my back even propped up.I guess its good practice for early morns with babe.
Dh has gone all soppy since the scan,he kept hugging me and dd last night and talking about his girls Am expecting him to dress in bright yellow longline suit today and a purple hat and cuban heels like a mac daddy to look after his "girls"Wierdo.
Took dd swimming but then couldnt face it so just sat and had a coffee and watched her swim.Didnt tell dh as i wanted him to think i was marvelous for taking her swimming hahah

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 08:33

I will take that insult as sarcasm ledkr no matter how it was intended [hgrin] . I can honestly say I've never been so excited at the prospect of seeing some genitalia - very [hhmm] and slightly Blush as well as [hwink] !

I think I'm the only one doing nothing for halloween. DH is a big misery guts about it as he says it's all just an imported American thing. He says the same about valentines day (sob sob, so no red roses ever for me). I think it's just an excuse for him to be a grumpy old man. I usually make a special spooky dinner at halloween, calling everything by ghouly themed names. This year I think the extent I'll go to will be spaghetti on toast, which will be served as worms in a blood sauce on toast Wink

lol at pumpkin belly - I could cause some serious nightmares in children by doing that!

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 08:46

ledkr just going to the pool in the first place is impressive in my books.

darkangels tell your DH that like most of these things, it actually started over here first and then went to America, where it became really big. A bit like how a lot of Americanisms like fall instead of autumn was actually what we said back in the day, but then we changed our words while America stuck with the old fashioned word.

After all that, he should at least let you get a pumpkin to carve. We're not going to a halloween party or anything, mainly because we don't know anyone who's having one, and we can't get involved with trick or treating as we live in a block of flats, but that pumpkin has been my pride and joy. I might take a picture of it later and put it on my profile.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. For those of you interested in my back, I'm going to the GP on Tuesday, assuming nothing has changed by then.

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 08:54

zero I've been told by doc/osteopath/physio that hot/cold on back where pain is is good (like a couple of mins or so with hot (not too hot) water bottle then alternate with cold (not too icy) ice pack can really help. I usually try and get DH to give me a back massage too (any excuse :) ).

Pumpkin shaping? The most annoying thing ever is having to spoon out the hard pumpkin flesh ready to carve the face - used to drive me mad and take AGES...but then, when I was younger we always used to use Dads home grown pumpkins and he used to save his biggest whopper for the ocassion which was so big (I mean 3 - 4 times bigger at least than supermarket ones) it took all day just to gut. One year we got so fed up we just used a yellow pepper instead of a pumpkin lantern (very easy to get an empty middle).

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 09:24

Thanks angels I use a hot water bottle a lot but I've never thought of alternating hot and cold before, I will try that, and have another hot bath today. I hacked away at our pumpkin but I wasn't very careful to preserve the bits so that we could eat them which is a bit [hblush] but it did make it easier

ledkr · 30/10/2010 09:53

ah thanks zero i did feel very pleased as i drove the 2mins to the gym and then sat on my rhino bum and read heat while she swam and then we went for dinner out as was too tired!
angels as i was dreamily flicking through my 4d pics on way home i noticed that they had included a picture of dd lady bits. I felt all protective and embarrassed for her in a sisterhood way and have removed it from the pile. Didnt like that at all and dd 8 totally aggreed and had across face as she said"how rude" haha
God you just reminded me of the pumpkin hassle. I leave ours till last minute cos it stinks but dd usually says "ill do it" all bossily and then after2 mins "can you do it please"
We are dressing up tomorrow to take the kids out.I have last yrs blonde wig but nothing else fits me so i am going to do scary face paint insted. Have awhole day stretching out in front of me dont know what to do, boooooooooooooring.

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 10:33

God I am do bored too. DH gassing door handles to afix so I am in charge of Entertainments and can't think of a thing to do :-(

I might do some scary baking with the boys tomorrow but that's about it for Halloween for us. Don't really know anyone to trick or treat round here and feel a bit rude knocking on strangers doors.

In other news, my boobs are horrid. They must have grown but not in a nice way, am very saddened by this and also the small settlement of spots on my jaw line that just WON'T go away! Boooo

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 10:34

'dh gassing' was meant to read 'dh has' - don't know what happened with auto correct there

ledkr · 30/10/2010 10:39

i did wonder. And also thought it was best to stay out of the way when dh is gassing.
i wondered about the cinema as i can just sit and eat but its just so expensive now.
It would help if i had some energy to do anything but alas it is still not here and i am breathless also today.Fed up already. Think ill have a shower and get dressed into one of my many outfits-not

americanexpat · 30/10/2010 10:43

We're not doing anything for Halloween this year either. Usually we'd carve pumpkins but we're leaving on holiday tomorrow for a week, so it seemed like a waste. I do love Halloween though (typical American!) and can't wait to get the baby a costume next year.

We had a look at the pram last night, it was in decent shape so we bought it. It's a bit heavy and bulky but for £20, I won't feel bad about if we don't use it much. It appears to be an older model ("Classic" I think it was marked, I can't find it on the website) but clean, I definitely need some practice assembling and disassembling before the baby arrives. It's our first major baby purchase though, it's starting to seem real now!

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 11:01

Ah, the famous £20 pram, it sounds like even if it's not your main pram it might find itself a happy semi-retirement as a second pram...?

I just uploaded a picture of our pumpkin, which is now actually quite mouldy on the inside because it's been lying around for so long [hconfused]

Sorry to hear about your boobs, 40weeks Can anyone who's bf before enlighten us as to what we can look forward to in that department after our LOs have arrived? Do they get even bigger when bfing? And then do they suddenly shrink when you stop, or do they remain huge forever, generally?

ledkr · 30/10/2010 11:58

yep huge when feeding and smaller when stop. I would recommend keeping them well supported until you stop so they wont be so saggy after.Luckily i now have my big reconstructed Pam Andersons which do nothing but sit there and look nice. I am dreading the hassle of bottle feeding tho now.

40WickedWeeks · 30/10/2010 12:52

Yes they do get massive, only place I got stretch marks was boobs, although only faint. I didn't think mine were too bad afterwards, but now they look rubbish as sitting all slovenly on my bump. But ledkr is right, support is vital! Would love a boob job afterwards but assuming yours was for very different reasons Ledkr (as in, not pure vanity!)

Oneof4 · 30/10/2010 14:24

Hi everyone

Dragged myself from bed this morning to try out a pregnancy yoga class. It turned out to be a lot of lying on the floor breathing, which I'd been doing quite well in my nice warm bed! I'm ashamed to say I had an attack of the giggles half way through the "my scalp is relaxed, my left big toe is relaxed" mantra, but managed to turn it into a credible coughing fit instead. Might not be going back.

DH has come home with two mega boxes of Quality Street in case we get any trick or treaters tonight. I know he means well, but the chances of there being any chocs left for little kiddies by nightfall are very slim indeed, the way I'm feeling today!

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 14:28

ledkr your comment to 40weeks about being out of the way when DH was gassing made me LOL :)

Well, just got back from the gender scan. I can reveal this baby is incredibly awkward shy disobedient bashful as it took 3 seperate attempts by sonographer to be able to see the bits - she had me drinking ice cold water by the buckets, jumping and going for walks in between each attempt and said it was very unusual to have a baby this late be so unwilling to show off itself (trust mine!). In a way it was nice as we got to see the little one for longer than we paid for though. Anyway, I can finally reveal, drumroll please, it's a girl. SO excited. Am going out on monday to hunt for pink clothes etc. I said to DH it's typical it would be a girl since the room we're giving it as nursery is painted blue, we have lovely blue curtains for it and have just brought a blue glider feeding chair!! Just got the name debate to have now.

Eeeeekkkkk, I'm so excited :)

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 14:30

oh yeah, and we have nothing for the trick or treaters - have just checked the cupboard and if anyone comes to our door (think we;ve had one person in about 10 years) all they will get is a sainsburys basics chocolate wafer bar. If that's not good enough for them they can fight me for a piece of my chocolate organge, but I think we all know that I'd win on that one [hwink].

ledkr · 30/10/2010 14:37

anglescongrats. Ive been checking on and off but didnt know what time your scan was.
Was it a 3/4 d? they are amazing. It feels strange to know the sex doesnt it? Its the first time i have known with all mine but im glad i do. Have just spent ages sorting through all the baby stuff it was very exciting.I started to ache then-back and spd so have been very disciplined in coming down now for acuppa and a quick rest.

darkangels1 · 30/10/2010 14:45

It was mainly a 'normal' scan but they did some 3d piccies for me and put the whole scan on DVD so we came straight home and watched it again. Showed my parents and they were really excited to watch it. If I manage I'll try and put a couple of 3d piccies on my profile. Will let you know if I suceed.

Grannyapple · 30/10/2010 15:53

Oooh angels & ledkr so exciting about ur scans-trying to talk dh into getting one now....we weren't that fussed about 3/4 d scans but not sure I can go to the end without seeing ds properly inside again!

Eh, coming from Glasgow, when we were wee we didn't have pumpkins as lanterns........but turnips (well swedes down here)! U can imagine (a) what a nightmare it was carving it out & (b) the smell of burning swede?! Not the best really but was still loads of fun. And we rarely got sweets - it was knock on ur neighbours doors ( the ones u knew well which then was virtually the whole street!), had do a wee 'turn' ( tell a joke, sing a siong, recite a poem kinda thing) & then u got some fruit & some monkey nuts....& if u were lucky, £1 & it was when they were still notes!

Ah, they were the days! Was shocked first year down here at how rude some of the older kids were in their expectations of vast quantities of sweets!

But it must be soo exciting for those of u with kiddies already-can just imagine their excitement!

janedoe25 · 30/10/2010 15:56

Angels Congratulations on your girl! Let the pinkness begin............

We have pretty much got all the big stuff needed for baby now, we got a mamas and papas cot/bed from the argos clearance section on ebay for £60! it is just the type i was looking for to! We ordered and payed deposit on pram ( mamas and papas ultima) and the change table last night. ]

I'm having a quiet relaxing wknd, off to cinema 2mrw night to escape the trick or treaters!

Hope everyone has a fab weekend x

zerolimbszeroeyeballs · 30/10/2010 17:28

Yes congrats on the girl angels and ledkr I don't think I congratulated you on your girl either. I think it's really nice to know what you're having so you can begin to visualise her and start thinking about names more.

Well done janedoe on some quite impressive bargain hunting!

I just had a strange, but not untypical experience with MIL. She really wants to buy us a cot but I was [hhmm] about this from the start as she is very cheap and I didn't want to get the cheapest possible one. I wanted a half decent one that will last for this baby and any others that come in the future

So we came across this cot in Mothercare today reduced to £140, supposedly from £230, and we thought we'd strike while the iron's hot. And we don't mind if MIL pays for all of it or not, as my own parents are more than happy to help out with these big things. But MIL is now annoyed that we have such expensive tastes. She wanted to get us a cot AND matress for less than £100. Fine if that's what you want, but it just doesn't happen to be what I want.

So if anyone out there happens to think that spending £140 on a cot bed that converts to junior bed isn't all that unreasonable, feel free to reassure me as I am feeling quite [hangry] right now as I feel that she is trying to attatch quite a lot of conditions to a gift that we would have been perfectly happy for her to never offer to us in the first place.

Sorry if that sounds selfish but MIL has a real habit of interfering in annoying ways and being very cheap.
