Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

elle which pg pillow do you use? I've got both dream genii and one of those boomerang shaped ones.

PDR I usually sleep on my side and think when cramp struck I was on my side.

I'm still putting it down to standing up for ages yesterday and hoping it's a one off, as that was so painful I couldn't get back to sleep for ages after [cofused]

Knitta - the classes are pretty good. The leader is very knowledgable about the local hospital as she works there so that's useful. My DP is getting loads out of it so far too. We're both a bit clueless but I at least hit MN and the books when I have a question! So they're very informative and hopefully the group will be supportive after the birth too.

Angels - I have a Dream Genii too, I love it although it does make me a bit hot! It definitely gets more hugs at night time now than my DP.

I'm still lying in bed at the mo, listening to the radio and reading my book - how lazy! I promised myself I'd have a good sort out upstairs today but the way it's going it'll be this afternoon before I get round to it! I could get used to this not working lark.....

ZeroMinusZero · 17/11/2010 12:02

I got the maternity pillow from mum stuff website which is ok although I don't always sleep with it. It could be useful for feeding though.

I would have liked to do the nct to make friends but we decided against it in the end and are only doing nhs. One of the things that put me off was the hippie attitudes I've heard about and their annoying pro natural birth stance. Really hope I make friends on the NHS one though.

Saw my physio today, who was great. She had had kids herself so understood that being pregnant isn't all that fun, and she gave me lots of great advice. I'm going to get a belt but I have to pay £30 for it as apparently the cheap support band I got from a shop is useless. But I feel much better now and am going into work this afternoon so will see how that goes.

Hope everyone stays well today

Hello!

Lol, 40weeks, I wished DH had brought Gino DaCampo home then he could cook every night! Grin

What are NCT classes like? I presume that they go into more detail than the NHS ones? Do you have to pay for NCT ones?

Took my brave little angel to have her booster injections this morning, she had 2. One in each leg Sad but she was very brave and was very pleased to receive 2 stickers and a bravery certificate Grin. She was fine afterwards so took her straight to preschool! I've had my lunch and I'm now working my way through a bag of chocolate eclairs [piggy emoticon]

WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 12:25

Glad your physio was helpful Zero! We only did the NHS classes but didn't make any friend's because there wasn't much chance to chat to others. I think it only ran for about 3 weeks. I did see one woman at baby group and we got chatting there and it was nice to see how she'd got on. She only went to group a couple of times though and she didn't keep in touch. I've made loads of friends through baby/toddler groups though which has been lovely. It's funny because people who had their first at the same time as you seem to start having second babies at similar times too! A lot of my baby group friends have small babies ATM or are pg again, which is lovely Smile.

ElleB1980 · 17/11/2010 12:29

The NCT course we're doing has cost about £140 I think, although we paid for it so long ago I can hardly remember. It's 2 hours a week for 7 weeks so pretty good value so far. The NHS ones here are just for an afternoon iirc. Heard a few horror stories about how they focus very much on what might go wrong and the pain relief you can have when they stitch you up afterwards so decided to balance it off with a bit of a hippy trip at the NCT.

I'm pretty nervou around hospitals, and a bit more so after my escapade on the tour at the weekend, so hopefully I'll get over that before Feb 3rd (or thereabouts!).

wigglesrock · 17/11/2010 12:40

PDR Brillant news from Dr, hope you can start to get some relief soon.

Angels I have suffered from leg cramps in the middle of the night, shockingly painful, however Mr Wiggles gets them very badly and fairly frequently, have woken up to him yelping and trying not to scream. Apparently a great tip is to try and get out of bed, drag yourself (not easy in our state!!) to a cool tiled floor, ,like bathroom and stand affected leg on the cold floor, stops the pain. It can be tender for a day or so later.

Wandering I did NHS classes with dd1, did 6 at night over 6 weeks, most of it was great, the first aid was terrific, liked tour of delivery suite etc, we had 30 mins of physio/exercise at end of class, the pain relief class was a bit scaremongery but we just picked the bits we wanted to hear Wink. NCT not huge here in NI, cost of classes quite prohibitive and they tend to be exceptionally middle class here (more so than usual Wink)

Went to Debs 25% sale this morning, got loads of Christmas presents so don't feel as bad about munching the selection box I had bought on the way home Blush. It was a very small one!!! and wouldn't have been able to split it evenly between dds!!

WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 12:44

Our NHS ones were ok. Not scary at all (well DH was a bit nervous) they just showed us, with a doll and model pelvis, how the baby goes through the birth canal, positions that help during labour, how your partner can help, options for pain relief and breast feeding.

The scariest thing they showed us was the chart for how dilated you need to be! DH was just glad that they didn't show us a video! Grin He kept asking me, "will we have to watch a video, we won't will we? I might faint!" needless to say he was absolutely fantastic during the birth - cut the cord and everything, which I didn't think he would! He didn't pass out once, although he did have to go out of the room when they put the epidural in! Grin

angels1 · 17/11/2010 12:58

speaking of antenatal classes and wanderings DH not wanting to watch a video of birth - has anyone had a birthing video as part of their NHS classes? I get seriously perculiar watching birthign videos and just can't do it. I know when I'm in the situatio I'll be different, but the last thing I want to do is make a scene and have to walk out of the class because I don't want to watch the video Confused

wiggles if only there was a nice cold tiled floor in our house to stand on - we're all carpets and lino here

OP posts:
wigglesrock · 17/11/2010 13:09

No we had no video, thank God, I don't watch any kind of giving birth, baby programmes, I'm not squeamish just have absolutely no desire to watch other people do it, to be honest when I had dd1 the midwife asked if I wanted to feel baby coming out and I asked "why would I want to do that". Mr Wiggles said afterwards he wasn't sure what was funnier my indignation or the midwife's look of surprise!!!

You have my sympathy re cramps, always thought Mr Wiggles was being a bit of a wuss until it happened to me Blush

angels1 · 17/11/2010 13:26

Has anyone here tried the Davina prenatal workout DVD? It's finally come (after having put it at the top of my love film account about 3/4 months ago Hmm ). I'm just peeking at it and thinking I'm really not sure if it's a good idea for me at this point given my physio has pretty much banned me from anything other than gentle yoga and walks due to my bad back. I'm thinking this could be too much and maybe I should just post it straight back and not bother/risk it .

OP posts:
WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 13:58

Angels, I haven't tried it but if you don't want to do it now and you've been told not to do anything strenuous etc, it might be useful for after the birth? I imagine prenatal excercise would be good postnatally as I presume it's more gentle and would get you back into the swing of excercising again.

Sometimes the MWs offer you a mirror during giving birth so that you can watch your own birth! I never got asked but I think my sister did with my first nephew. I believe that she said something along the lines of, "do I f*@k, just get it out!"

I love watching birthing programmes but it's completely different doing it yourself. My MIL has given birth to three children but had never actually seen a birth until recently, when she was SILs birthing partner. She said that she didn't realise how brutal it looked even though she's been through it 3 times. She said she'd much rather do it than watch! I'd love to be at someone's birth. I bet it's amazing seeing someone come into the world!

WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 14:01

Oops, doh Angels I've just read your post properly and seen that it's a rented DVD not one that you're keeping!

smokeybacon · 17/11/2010 14:28

Hi there. Am gatecrashing from a twins thread as I think tabbycat posted on here too. She hasn't posted on our thread since the end of October.

tabby come and let us know how you are. Am worried!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/11/2010 14:30

If you've been told not to do anything other than gentle yoga and walks, I wouldn't be indulging in anything more strenuous with the Davina DVD than gently putting it back in the envelope and strolling to the post box to return it...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/11/2010 14:31

Oh, SIL had a baby girl (first baby) this morning; very excited! Although now everyone is going to be looking at me meaningfully and saying "not long now..."

angels1 · 17/11/2010 14:37

great news prof and I think you are right that I shouldn't do the Davina DVD. I'm just a bit bad at saying no to these things so find it much easier for someone else to point out the obvious - I feel less guilty then.

smokeybacon I don't think I've heard anything from tabby in months on here. Had been wondering how she was getting on (doesn't she work in a hospital??). I think she moved/was moving but can't remember when that was happening.

smokeybacon · 17/11/2010 14:39

Thanks angels, think I will PM her and see if I get a response.

WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 14:42

Ooh, congrats on your new niece Prof! That's lovely news. Smile

I'm not sure I actually "met" tabbyCat. I hope she's ok! There are a lot of names on the stats list that I don't think I have seen since I joined the thread. I hope they are just too busy to post and they are all ok!

smallblackflowers · 17/11/2010 15:15

I wasn't shown any birth vids when I did NCT or NHS classes, but found both to be very valuable as between them they covered just about everything that was useful to know. I am glad I went to them too as didn't realise how much I didn't know until I knew it (IYKWIM). I am quite enjoying watching one born every minute though, but it inevitably leaves me bawling.

I've not had any cramps but couldn't sleep without being wrapped around my maternity beanbag pillow thing.
I have been having heart palpitations over the last 3 days and nights - where my heart seems to be missing a beat every few beats and then doing a big one to catch up - it feels horrible, almost a bit like vertigo, but getting up and doing something seems to put it back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this? Do you think I should be worried?

I think I've done a bad thing....have just sat and plucked all the horrible long hairs out from my lower belly...it looks fine now, but in a few weeks when I've got loads of ingrowing hairs to contend with I will not be happy.

Off to make some low GI chocolate truffles in preparation for my GD diagnosis and because I really fancy some chocolate!

smallblackflowers · 17/11/2010 15:17

note to self - should hit refresh before posting!

prof congrats on your new niece!

angels step away from the workout dvd!

janedoe25 · 17/11/2010 15:47

Congrats on your baby niece prof! Within our cirlce of friends there has bn a baby born every 2 months since feb, cant wait to visit the newest addition!

Hope everyone is doing well, i have just been plodding along merrily!

WanderingSheep · 17/11/2010 15:58

SBF, when I was pg with DD I felt like I was having heart palpitations. I mentioned it to the MW and they sent me for a heart trace! I don't know what they were looking for (heart murmur?) but everything was normal and it was just due to all the extra blood that i was carrying. I don't know if what I was experiencing is similar to you but I constantly felt like my heart was racing.
