Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

We didn't buy a special co-sleeper cot, we just got something very similar to this (they don't do the one we have any more) and took one side off. You could always cut the legs down a bit or extend them if you need to adjust the height slightly and it's much cheaper then Grin

We have only started using it recently, DD just slept in our bed when she was tiny, before she took to sleeping sideways and kicking DH in the face!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 07/11/2010 11:48

Morning,

Hope everyone is well. I love the co sleepers but as we're quite poor and were given a lovely crib we're going to use that. Luckily my brother and his girlfriend are buying us a cot (which I suspect we may pass on to them eventually, fingers crossed!).

At the moment the crib is all set up and newly painted in my dining room and every time I walk past it my stomach does a little flip, it's so exciting. It's quite a good size,so should last a while, just need to get new mattress for it.

Thanks to this thread I now have the ebay addiction, beware, it's really contagious! Bidding on a gorgeous bright red snowsuit at the mo (please don't out bid me!). Grin

suzym1984 · 07/11/2010 12:18

smallblackflowers how did you position the co-sleeper so that you could still have a bedside table? I panic at the thought of no water by my bed!

eaurouge we may end up doing something similar, and buying a cheapy cot from ikea to adapt, some of the co-sleepers are £250 which seems a bit much for only a few months sleeping!

Ebay is so contagious, just hope that the clothes look nice when they arrive!

EauRouge · 07/11/2010 12:27

suzym, have you got a headboard? You could rig up some kind of shelf to go on there or just lay a bottle of water across the top (that's what I do).

smallblackflowers · 07/11/2010 13:52

suzym, my co-sleeper was just pushed right up to the bedside table, so was a little lower down the bed, but didn't pose a problem at all. Will take a photo when it is taken out of the attic and dusted off! My new mattress for it arrived yesterday, so just about ready to go!

hubbard86 · 07/11/2010 14:28

I'm going to use the beautiful moses my dad bought me when ds was tiny, then just have the cot in our room. Ds moved into his own room at 5 months and we all slept better. i have two stands, so one upstairs and one down, but also have carrycot attachment to my pram so not too worried about where baby will sleep.

Have bought quite a lot off ebay since finding out we're having a girl, as all i had were boys clothes since giving away bits to people when they had children. They have all been lovely, only getting a few bits newborn as ds was 8lb 11 two weeks early. 3-4 sleepsuis and vests and a cardigan is it in newborn for us.

For those with heartburn i can really sympathise, as i was really suffering. I went to the doctors to get some more gaviscon and he has given me these tablets that are incredible they're called omeprazole, and since the first tablet no heartburn whatsoever!! Grin

in weightgain i have only gained a pound so far which i am so pleased about as i am already a bit of a fatty. But don't let anyone make you feel bad as your body is storing what it needs to keep you and the baby healthy don't stress about it!!

knittaguy · 07/11/2010 15:10

To all of you bedsharing, is a normal double bed alright? I had thought about getting one of those co-sleepers, but then they are expensive for just a few months, and really want to bed share (which I know is not to everyones' taste but it is something both DH and I feel we want to do), just worried now our bed is too small...
I'm going to weigh myself later on, yesterday went out and felt like an absolute whale...

knittakid · 07/11/2010 16:36

Shock just checked, I have put on 8 kg, which the online conversion site says is 17.6 lbs!!!! no wonder I feel like a whale Grin.
Then I read we are supposed to put on about 12 Kg in total... and what with Christmas coming, it's not going to happen is it? therefore, i second hubbards advice, and lets just thing of all that extra lovely milk.

40Weeks · 07/11/2010 16:43

Hi everyone

Those cot side sleepers look great, the only downside is if you have a section apparently they aren't that useful as it's hard to move about or pick up baby from the lying down position, but at least they are flexible and you have the option. I always had bed against wall when co sleeping. Will use a rocking crib in our room and a normal cot for day time naps in their own room. I found swaddling really helped ds2 settle well although he always managed to get one hand out! Will also have the travel cot downstairs to baby has somewhere safe to be, away from it's brothers!

40Weeks · 07/11/2010 16:46

Oh and medium was ok, not that specific about who messages were from but could easily have been people I knew. Just nothing that made me go WOW. She knew a lot about me though, but didnt mention bump at all. Bit weird really Confused

ledkr · 07/11/2010 16:52

8GEEKY8 i had terrible pain in my right side yesterday like period pain. Baby seems to move so infrequently i have been a little worried. I have my 28 wk check at the end of this week so ill mention it.She has never been a big mover and yes its more like vibrations and i also get the bouncing on the bladder too.
Just been to the baby show at our local town hall.It was not as big as the Earls court one but i bought some nice blankets and my moses basket which is really sweet and very different. Bought the oyster and carrycot Friday too.I will sleep mine in it during the day and at night she will go up to her room in the basket then up with us when we go up.Worked well for dd she slept all night as 5 wks.I will keep her in with us for about 4 months unless shes too noisy.
I have never co slept but isnt it one of the things not recomended by sids.Sorry not being flipant i am really interested. I put mine in bed with me when abit older if they are poorly but always a little nervous.

EauRouge · 07/11/2010 17:58

knittaguy, a normal double should be fine for bedsharing, I didn't move around at all when DD was tiny. You end up sort of curled around them. I had her on my side so I was in between her and DH. I've heard conflicting opinions on bed rails but I never used one anyway.

40Weeks · 07/11/2010 19:22

Also had some reflexology today which was sooo nice, would recommend it for ailments or general relaxation, assuming you like that sort of thing. I love foot rubs! I could have stayed there all day!

tadjennypumpkinpie · 07/11/2010 19:49

I love reflexology - I credit it for helping me get pg with dd. This time round I credit acupuncture and dh helped a bit too! Grin

wigglesrock · 07/11/2010 20:03

yes tadjenny have to say you may have to give dh a little credit for the baby Wink

I also got my pram today, went for a nosy with my mum and we ended up just getting it, got some Christmas presents as well so finally feeling like I'm getting something done!! Have sent away for HIP grant - not sure who asked about how long it would take to come through but someone on a previous thread said it took them around nine days, someone else had the money in their account before they got the confirmation later and someone else was waiting 4 weeksConfused

I have co-slept with dd2 in normal double bed but it was out of sheer desperation, she is an incredible non sleeping baby/child, it's as well she is so cute Grin

angels1 · 07/11/2010 21:18

I agree - love relfexology. It was the only thing that got my hormones back to normality after coming off of the pill when they went manic, and again after my mc last year. Infact, I have a session booked for tomorrow Grin

Also need to see GP tomorrow as have got ear infection in both ears :( Off to bed now as I'm so tired, and have been sleeping most of the afternoon...

So Wagner lives to fight another day then Confused . Can't believe Treyce got voted out in preference to drama queen katie Hmm

WanderingSheep · 07/11/2010 21:22

What pram did you get wiggles?

Ledkr, yes the Fsids do say something about not co sleeping (they say it's safer for them to be in a cot) but that co sleeping cot does look quite good as the baby doesn't have to be near as it's got its own space. I have never co slept myself (too scared to) but some people say that it is good for the baby as your breathing regulates theirs and can prevent SIDS.

smallblackflowers · 07/11/2010 21:29

Re co-sleeping and SIDS, studies have found that it is more dangerous to co-sleep if you are not breastfeeding. Co-sleeping is less dangerous SIDS wise then sleeping in a different room (providing no drink, drugs etc) as your breathing does help to regulate your baby's breathing.

I would love to go for reflexology, as love a foot rub. Will have to see if there is anything local to me.

angels hope you have a good night's sleep and feel a bit better tomorrow Smile

wigglesrock · 07/11/2010 21:51

wanderingsheep we got a Bruin Zia, had great fancy dan pram for dd1 & dd2 which was brill (was a Graco). This time I just wanted something light and neat. When I had dds I didn't drive so walked everywhere, Tescos, nursery, into town etc. This time I fully intend to benefit from driving (may not be eco friendly but took me 5 fecking tries and thousands hundreds of pounds to get the test!!!)

By the way dd2 (3) asked me how the baby was going to get outShock. Did a quick Mummy has a special hole etc, dd1(5) looked at me as if to say "never discuss this with me again EVER", dd2 was very interested and has repeated the information to everyone she has met this weekend Blush. Bad enough to my daddy, slightly worse to the poor 18 year old who was doing his Christmas training on the checkout at M&S this afternoon Shock.

WanderingSheep · 07/11/2010 22:05

wiggles I totally forgot - your DD2 had a birthday recently didn't she? Hope she had a good day! Luckily DD hasn't asked anything about how the baby gets in there or how they get out. Although she did tell me that I would have to push it out. I have no idea where she got that from though Confused, probably TV!

I don't drive, could really do to learn though!

wigglesrock · 07/11/2010 22:31

My baby was 3 last weekend Sad, she had a fab time. DD1 (5) has a friend in school whose Mum is due at Christmas and I think there may be fact swapping going on!! I was more prepared for the how does baby get in than how does it get out!! I was going to run, hide in the corner Grin

I will be honest, actually passing my test felt like the greatest achievement in my life (and I'm including childbirth) I will say on one thing, you have to be completely sure you want to do it. I was so pressurised my parents, friends etc that I took lessons on and off without really commiting to it and ended up resenting doing it. Wasn't until after dd2 was born that I got it together but still took the guts of a year to get the test and as for the money [weeping face]

knittakid · 07/11/2010 22:43

I've read a bit on co-sleeping and bed-sharing, it can be done very unsafely and then there is a high risk, but if done safely there is some evidence of it being better at stablishing breastfeeding, sleeping patterns, etc, and not more dangerous than sleeping in the same room but in a cot. Studies found also that both parents and baby get more sleep if co-sleeping... that did it for me.

earlgreyismynectar · 07/11/2010 23:03

We never co-slept with DD (until she was old enough to climb out and come through herself!!) but I had the Moses basket pressed up against the side of my bed so she was very very close. I found feeding very easy and she was always a good sleeper (thankfully) maybe I was lucky! Co-sleeping does appeal to me though and seems the most natural thing in the world. I personally would want a king size rather than double!

Excuse my ignorance but can someone tell me what a HIP grant is please?! I'm intrigued!!

Wiggles your story made me giggle & struck a chord! DD also asked me how baby gets out. I was momentarily torn between being fairly honest (she's just turned 4) & preserving her innocence. I caved and said from my tummy but I have to push very hard (ahem, very much thinking on my feet!). She seemed satisfied with that. I think perhaps nearer the time I'll try to explain it a little better... What has everyone else said?! DD also asked me how the baby got there, I started to explain that mummy's & daddy's make them as they love eachother (help!!) but DP changed the subject & it wasn't broached again!

Hoping for no more indigestion tonight, I sympathise with the other person on here who's getting it & mentioned what they were taking, I'll take a trip to Boots tomorrow.

Hope you're feeling better tomorrow too Angels.

Night night!

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave · 07/11/2010 23:05

Yes, first time we did it out of desperation from about 3.5 months because we were getting virtually no sleep, and second time we did it from birth and I actually felt guilty because people kept commiserating with me on how much sleep I was missing with a new baby, when I really wasn't and didn't feel unusually tired.

ZeroMinusZero · 08/11/2010 06:48

HIP Grant = Health in Pregnancy £190 at 25 weeks straight from the government into your pocket. It's about to be scrapped so we will be among the last mothers to ever get it
