Recieved with thanks Teuch, I will keep you updated

teuch · 20/10/2005 16:09

good point on size - we use them at yoga and it depends on your height...thought this might be useful!

4?8" to 5?2" (140 ? 165cm) 22 inches (55cm)
5?3" to 6?0" (165 ? 185cm) 26 inches (65cm)
6?0" to 6?5" (185 ? 195cm) 30 inches (75cm)

I don't know about the quality issue though - some balls are expensive ones from some yoga supplier, a couple are argos and a couple are tesco and they all seem much of a muchness!

TicTac · 20/10/2005 16:31

65cms seems quite big for a 5'2" person like myself. I think I will bring it up at Mondays NCT class and we can compare notes

If it helps baby get into the right position I am seriously going to buy a ball. My little one loves to sit bum down and has done since conception. She always moves around but rests in that position...I really hope it is not a sign of things to come as I desperatly want a vaginal birth!!!

And did I just say I was desperate to "shit a melon from a peanut hole" as my friend puts it?!?!!

JuA · 20/10/2005 19:24

Scan tomorrow!! Hopefully I will know what flavours! I am going on my own cos dh has to work.
dd is full of a cold and wouldn't take calpol or nurofen before bed - she spat them both back at me! so I am not expecting a full nights sleep tonight. She is sleeping now despite lots of protests about going to bed.
dh is working until 10pm and I have indigestion!
Sorry - that is a complete moan I should really stop feeling sorry for myself.

Frizbe · 20/10/2005 19:39

Aww bless JuA here's hoping she stays asleep, and good luck at your scan tomorrow.

Hope all is ok with you flame {{{Hugs}}} hope pains go away....

3k I had a go on the birthing ball when having dd, and I found it damn painful once the head was on its way down, in fact the best place I found to ease the contraction pain was the toilet!! pity they didn't have a birthing stool, as now think that would be a fab idea!
As for your boss, I'd like to hear his wifes version of events!! bet she did poo, the midwifes are just super quick at whipping it out of the way, along with the rest of the gunk!

Hi to all, had the first random person feeling my bump today grrrrrrrr, wish they'd ask 1st!!

poppyh · 20/10/2005 20:58

I actually threw my birthing ball at DH during labour!!
Who says they dont have their uses!

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 09:09

Morning girls,

My cot has arrived! DH spent a couple of hours last night swearing over it because I had gone to bed in a bad mood so wouldn't help him and he was struggling to do it on his own hee hee. It's not fully up yet but I must admit is looking good so far.

It's last chance for anyone wanting to leave a note for Amanda or put a little something towards her gift on the Gift for Amanda1 thread. I will be posting the card this afternoon and ordering the present.

Jasnem · 21/10/2005 10:13

morning, this is gmh with a new name, here

It was early to bed for me last night, too, after persuading DP to take DD1 to her swimming lesson for the first time ever.

I feel worse for it though, as I now have terrible backache, and have spent the last hour trying to persuade my muscles to relax, and convince my spine it doesn't need to be arched all the time. I can at least put my shoes on now.

Would a ball help while I'm P? I don't think it will be much use during labour, I'm fully expecting to be fully dilated by the time I get to hospital. Unless I have to have another CS, but I won't find out about that till later.

I hope Flame is feeling better today, I know the vicious cycle you can get into once you start to worry. Maybe the MW visit and a nights rest will have helped you putit behind you.

thell · 21/10/2005 10:26

Morning!

Lots of sympathy for all you guys with aches and pains.
I have been very lucky so far - had only one (v horrid) pelvic floor cramp that hasn't returned (touch wood). It's amazing how easily everything seizes up though - even sitting in the same position for a little while can give me a sore back when I stand up. And I seem to get pins and needles now at the drop of a hat. I'm praying for good back health tho, as there are tons of back probs in my family and know how debilitating it can be.

Jasnem: my sis is having back troubles - she's 16wks - but still goes to see her osteopath, who can do safe manipulations, or recommend maovements for her to do to ease the aches / pressure.
Might be worth considering - You could also ask if a ball would help.

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 10:33

Hmmm I've been having back problems since about 16 weeks too. Have been to the docs/midwife about it on 3 occassions and they just give me exercises to do which don't seem to help so I have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to continue to look like a little old lady if I stand from sitting still for too long. I have never had a particularly healthy back after 5 years of vet nursing and a year of working in a disability home so have always been a manual handler and now I sit in an office all day so from one extreme to the other!

Why the change of name Jasnem, had just got used to remembering gmh without having to flick to the top of the thread mid post!

TicTac · 21/10/2005 10:35

Morning all,

I get pins and Needles and stiff too! All par for the course I think! I find a nice bath does the trick!

Chloe - my cot is coming tomorrow, it got lost in delivery or something so they have put it through for next day delivery and given me 1000 advantage card points...nice. Let me know how it looks, we have got the same cot as you!

fairydust · 21/10/2005 10:41

FRIZBE - have you found out the flavour - hope you are well and that you are getting fat gracefully.

thell · 21/10/2005 10:43

Am v jealous about your cots!
We are due to move in 3 wks - looking more like 4wks now, what with damp surveys etc, so we have been holding back on large baby equipment that we have no space for in our teeny flat!
We're getting my BIL's kids' cot though, so at least I've seen it.

Jasnem · 21/10/2005 10:45

Sorry Chloe, I won't change again. gmh are my initials, but it didn't feel like a name to me. My girls are called Jasmine and Emily, hence the new name.

I too have longstanding back problems -scoliosis and sciatica combined are pretty unpleasant at times, but I was totally pain free during both earlier Ps. Then within 24 hours of giving birth it allgives way. All I remember now is waking every 2/3 hours at night to a sleeping baby due to the pain. Really not fair in my opinion, but I can't really complain now. It's not as if I don't know What I'm letting myself in for.

Jasnem · 21/10/2005 11:06

I'm still not in buying mode at all. I've lined up loads of stuff to borrow and I won't get a cot till afterbaby is born. I'lluse a moses basket to start. It takes up less space in my tiny house.

DP wants to convert our loft and I know its the best option for us, but I cant face the thought of living in the mess - he will do it himself but hes neither tidy nor speedy when working at home. Maybe in another year or so...

kando · 21/10/2005 11:33

Well ladies, I had my scan this morning! All went very well, it's got all the right bits in the right places and it's a ................. girl! So I will be the very, very proud mother of three little girlies! (Poor dh!)

poppyh · 21/10/2005 11:47

Conrats on your girl Kando!!xx

thell · 21/10/2005 11:58

Wow, so many girls!
The March people seem to be having more boys, so it's evening out,...
We're either going to end up with duplicate names or be pretty imaginative!
I really want my children to have interesting names, but DH is pretty trad. Maybe it's just different for girls...I've wondered what I would call my children since I was about 4! Unlikely my hubbie was doing the same while he was playing with train sets.

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 12:07

Congrats on little girl Kando!

So what girlie names have you managed to come up with then Thell?

Jasnem - you change your name as often as you like - it's good to keep Chloe on her toes

I'm guessing that flame is at 'normal' midwife appointment this morning - let us know you're still ok when you get back Flame!

Is anyone in touch with Angedemarche? She's not posted on here for ages, but I notice that she posted on Amanda's thread back under her orig name (Jangus). Am worried because someone else then posted saying that they were thinking of her and hoped that she was ok, so now I'm wondering if something has happened to her or the baby.

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 12:13

Congrats on the girl Kando, won't fancy your household much when the youngest hits puberty!

And as for keeping me on my toes....well!!

thell · 21/10/2005 12:33

I'm sticking to my guns with her middle name -
Aniela
It was my (Polish) great-grandmother's name, and probably is a version of Angela, or Angel.

As for first names,... I'm stuck! We like Julia and Sally,...I like Francesca shortened to Frankie, but DH doesn't,...it's so annoying! Even though his friends have started naming their children with slightly more daring names like Florence and Austin he is going to take a lot of convincing to be a bit more adventurous.

thell · 21/10/2005 12:37

Yoinks - spooky!

I've just looked up 'Aniela' on a name website, and it means 'masculine'!
Maybe that's why I thought she was a boy,...!!

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 12:51

lol!
Francesca is a good name. It's in the running for us if we have a girl. I like it shortened to Frankie too, but my DH prefers Fran for short, so we'll both be calling her something different if we do go for that!

thell · 21/10/2005 12:59

A friend's children, who are 6 & 8, compiled a list for me yesterday and phoned me to tell me!
It was mostly names like
Leonore - Talula - Candy - Lacey - Buffy
Their names are Edie and Willoughby, so they're used to arty names!!
Very sweet of them .

Any suggestions for names that are interesting but not too wacky, I'd be v grateful!

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 13:25

Happy to share our girlie shortlist with you - it's not like we could use all the names ourselves!
Currently in the running are:

imogen
francesca
olivia
lauren
georgina
philippa
violet
daniella

I also love Liberty, but DH doesn't, and we both love Amelia, but can't use it with our surname.
Anything there that you like?
