That's bronzing powder,...

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 11:58

Yes I think sending freebies my way is a damn good idea Thell! And I was trying to work out what the hell brinzing powder was!

flamebat · 18/10/2005 12:01

PMSL @ the wedding show!!! I kept having people trying to sell me tooth whitening sessions... came out feeling sooo paranoid!!!

I think that any freebies you don't want, you should all package up and send out to us with no hopes of going . If you all compare notes, there will be lots of doubles, so several of us can get nice post

poppyh · 18/10/2005 12:26

Thell, im in SE26 so not far away from you, also bandit country!!

Bewitched · 18/10/2005 12:35

Surely it must be Monday today as it's been manic so far!! Afternoon everyone - typed morning but then realised that it isn't anymore!

Welcome Thell and GMH and welcome back Poppyh - wondered where you'd disappeared to after introducing yourself the other weeek. Fancy sneaking off to the March thread !

Well I woke up at 5 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep (kept thinking about poor Amanda), so finally got up at 7 and did washing, tidied kitchen and watched soaps from last night all before my bath!

Then started work with aim of being ready for a conference call at 11, but had my network go down , my window cleaner come in for coffee (he's been having marriage troubles so comes in for a monthly chat to pour his heart out and perk himself up), my dad phoned, and then my groceries turned up whilst I was still in the conference! Now need to chill on here for 5 mins before finishing unpacking and preparing food to take to 'taster evening' at slimming club tonight.

As far as flowers go, I'd like to chip in if we are getting some for Amanda. Flame - let me pay your share as I know that things are tight for you at the moment. I just wish that there was more that we could do for her, especially knowing that she doesn't really have family to fall back on for support.

Ixel - if you can't meet us this weekend then would you be able to get up for a midweek meet with myself, Morgan and Popadopalis in November? Do trains run from Barnet to either Luton or Hitchin way?

Right, need to metaphorically pause for breath now!

(Oh, in case any of the newcomers are confused, I am usually known as Tabs, but have changed my name for halloween season)

hotmama1 · 18/10/2005 12:55

Just read about Amanda1 - Hope her bastard ex-partner is happy for the stress he caused her. Keep your chin up honey if you read this link.

You just don't expect this to happen when we are so far gone.

Hope you girls are doing O.K - any thoughts on names yet etc.

gmh · 18/10/2005 13:02

Can someone tell me what mm/c means please? (I've been looking at stats at the beginning ) Thanks

I can't believe how organised everyone is; DD2 was called twinkle for the first month of her life as we still didn't have a name when she was born. We have never agreed on a single boys name at all. I do like George but haven't mentioned it as I am sure DP will veto it .

As for buying things... not a thing yet, though I have looked into new nappies as all my old ones died after the first two kids

Bewitched · 18/10/2005 13:06

gmh - mm/c is a missed miscarriage, where the baby dies but you don't know about it until usually it is picked up by scan.

thell · 18/10/2005 13:14

Hmmm - I'm afraid I must admit I don't know what PMSL stands for either !
Anyone would think I'm a complete techno-idiot,...

We starting by calling our bump 'bean,' but are both quite convinced it's a boy and so have progressed straight on to Bertie ! DH has a fondness for Bertrand Russell, but we both also had a grandfather called Albert, so that will almost certainly be his middle name. I have several interesting Polish names on standby for a girls' middle name. Completely undecided on the first name though - the boys' ones we like have become far too popular, and girls' names have left us a bit uninspired.

Our surname is Male, so anything that gives the initial 'E' is right out.

gmh · 18/10/2005 13:14

Thanks for that...I knew it was common but it's scary how often it came up in that short list.

Sorry if anyone found it insensitive but I really didn't know

TicTac · 18/10/2005 13:28

PMSL is Pee myslef laughing. There is an acronym list at the top of the page but don't be afraid to ask what anything is!!

I call my car Bertie!! But Bertie has to be sold because he is a 2 seater Tiagra Sport convertible and only 6 months old but there is no place for a car seat. We bought him the same month we fell preg and I made a declaration that "as soon as I pay for this car I bet you I get pregnant" and I did Well if that's what it took...I wont complain.

So if anyone knows of anyone looking for a gorgeous little Bertie...let me know

TicTac · 18/10/2005 13:29

and I meant Tigra...too happy with the "A" key there!

Tabs - take a rest hun! Made morning, bit like mine yesterday!

Blue4Pink1 · 18/10/2005 14:58

odd!!! I call my car Bertie!! Blue beetle it suits him!

poppyh · 18/10/2005 15:09

we call our bump Wilbur!!
Have to sell my lovely Yaris, which has no name!1Its too small for 3 kiddies.Going to get a Renault scenic.Anyone have one?!

TicTac · 18/10/2005 15:53

and my Bertie is Blue too!!! weird!

Frizbe · 18/10/2005 16:06

Hi gmh welcome to the thread!
No personal experience of Scenics, but a friend has one and it's been great for them! (think we're definatley going with the Xara Picasso tho.....
grrrr at you baby show meetup er's! have a great time won't you! you can come back and make us jealous with all your freebies...

Bewitched · 18/10/2005 18:08

Thell - are you Polish then as you mention polish names? lol at E Male! We have to avoid certain names as our surname is Stone (Miles Stone for example), but thankfully don't have a whole letter ruled out.

gmh - I certainly didn't find it insensitive, and wouldn't expect that any of us would. If we weren't prepared to discuss it I guess we wouldn't have provided the info for the stats .

No experience of Scenic either - the Fiat Multipla is the only 'people carrier' style car that I've owned.

Right, off out in a mo, and have parents arriving at 9pm tonight too, so not sure how much I'll get online in next couple of days. Apparently I'm going to be molested, as mum wants to feel Chip moving!!!

thell · 18/10/2005 19:25

My Mum's family is Polish. I have no middle name at all, and feel I missed out on having an interesting foreign name! My Mum was so self-conscious herself at school about being a foreigner (and having a surname that no one could pronounce) that she just wanted to protect me I guess.
She's chuffed now that my family are all so open and proud of our cultural heritage.

Unfortunately the Polish boys' names in my family are a bit cumbersome to inflict on our baba - like Eugenieusz and Stanislaw.

KWYM about parents - I visited mine last week and my Mum spent four days sitting with her hand on my bump! Unfortunately Bertie was having none of it and stopped wriggling whenever she pounced. Even when she tried being sneaky!

TicTac · 18/10/2005 19:39

Hmm, Tickers has a habit of playing freeze when DH approaches! She can be playing ice hockey on my bladder one minute and then as soon as his hand comes near...nothing!

I feel all out of sorts tonight...no idea why. Don't want to watch TV, too tired to do any jobs but wouldn't sleep if I went to bed.

Frizbe · 18/10/2005 20:42

Hmmm hope your not coming down with anything Tictac? try and rest up hon.

Chloe55 · 19/10/2005 08:50

Morning girls,

Hope everyone is well this morning. It's my DH's birthday so I have been up since 6am cooking for him and getting his pressies, I think he has enjoyed himself so I am in a good mood today (although VERY tired but no change there!)

I found Amanda's address last night so I can arrange to get some flowers or something for her - any suggestions are welcome but I was thinking that for those who wanted to we could get her a picture frame for her scan or is that insensitive? I don't really know, just thought something other than flowers might be quite nice. I will ask Rhubarb too and will put a little thread out asking if anyone wants me to add their name to the card or anything.

flamebat · 19/10/2005 09:43

I was thinking about whether we should get something other than flowers too Chloe - the only thing I came up with though was Lush bath stuff (they send out gift parcel thingies), but then thought that bath things probably wasn't a good idea right now Its all so hard.

I like the photoframe idea, but everyone's loss is very personal - some like to keep it private so might not be happy with the photoframe, but others want to celebrate their child and show everyone.

You're a much better wife than me Chloe - I kicked DH out of bed on his birthday, and told him it was too early and we'd do birthday when he got home from work

Sounds like I'm lucky with my mum - she doesn't touch my bump unless I offer it... I think she's heard me ranting about people groping me without asking, and now keeps her distance

I keep getting a weird thing across the middle of my bump - to start with it felt like a really viscious kick, but now it feels different... I never had braxton hicks with DD, could it be that?? What do they feel like? Does your whole bump harden, or just sort of a band of it?

TicTac · 19/10/2005 09:44

Chloe - Thanks for organising something for Amanda, that's really sweet of you. I guess you just have to go with what you think is right, I wouldn't want to be displaying scan pictures because I think it would prevent me from moving on but that is a very personal choice. It is such a difficult one isn' it! Flowers are a miracle cure and can put a smile on everyones face. As we know she had a little girl, you could perhaps send pink flowers???

And happy birthday to your DH!!

I am starving! I ate my breakfast but already have a rumbly tumbly...I think I will get some tea and toast from the restaurant!

Chloe55 · 19/10/2005 09:50

I get weird pangs across my tummy too Flame, they are a little different to a kick - more like something has just snapped? Very strange.

I have started an Amanda gift thread for anyone who is interested.

I know what you mean about the scan piccie, not sure how I would feel about it either. Hmmm it's a difficult one.

flamebat · 19/10/2005 09:54

YES!!! A snap! That's exactly how it feels

I don't remember anything like that with DD so it confused me.
