Post has arrived... I have a sling

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 10:15

I was lucky enough to have been given a sling by a friend - DH and I have been prancing about wearing it - quite amusing! I don't think I am gonna let DH where it though, he is VERY clumsy and it will be winter after all

flamebat · 18/10/2005 10:17

DD isn't impressed... never having been in a sling before in her life, I decided to play - strapped her in (upright), and then spun her round in circles . Lots of half scared, half laughing shrieks of "Dobbit Mummy!!!"

I was impressed - she is a sturdy 2 1/2 yr old, and I could spin her round without holding on to her, and I'm not a crumpled heap

Might be forced to traumatise her again later.....

Gonna hassle my friend to let me play with her baby - she's very placid and used to slings, so should be good practice.

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 10:28

I love hearing about you and your DD stories Flame, you seem to have so much fun with her

flamebat · 18/10/2005 10:30

At the moment she's being neglected ...she's sat in front of care bears (still in her pjs with a dummy in her mouth ), while I sit here

I'm always so wiped out in the mornings lately that she's turned into a tv child

gmh · 18/10/2005 10:39

hello Feb mums
I have been reading this thread for a while, but too chicken to join in. Seeing two new mums being welcomed in the middle of such a tragic event has motivated me. I hope Amanda has the love and support in the RW that she is getting from you all.

My baby is due 18th Feb -I dont want to know the flavour, though, as I like the surprise. This is no.3 - I have girls of 5 and 6 already.

3k · 18/10/2005 10:41

What terrible news from Amanda, I'm feeling very down now I hope she is ok, I cant imagine how she is feeling.

The slings sound good, let me know what you think of them with a newborn.

TicTac · 18/10/2005 10:46

Welcome GMH. We are a v.friendly group on here so you need not be scared!

Sling sounds like a laugh flame....poor DD

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 10:53

Hi gmh and welcome . I won't be forgetting your due date because it is the day before my birthday!

thell · 18/10/2005 10:57

Morning everyone.

What terrible news about Amanda. My Mum had a miscarriage about a year after I was born, which I'd always known about, but it was only recently that she told me it was at 15 weeks - she'd had a bump and everything. I cried when she told me - it must be absolutely devastating to lose a child at this stage and not have it recognised officially as a wee person
She is very lucky to have so many people, some who haven't even met her, sending such supportive thoughts and wishes

I'd love to come and meet you Tictac et al - I have plans in the evening on Sunday, so I may have to potter around Olympia first for a while then meet you at 1. I'll be carrying a bright pink 70s style floral bag !!

I've been obsessed about buying a sling recently too, and may buy one at the babyshow - please do let me know what kind you have bought and what you think. I've already poured over the sling reviews on this site,...

Hello gmh and poppy!

poppyh · 18/10/2005 11:02

Hello everyone. Thanks for your greetings.Terrible news about Amanda what a horrible thing to happen.

TicTac · 18/10/2005 11:03

Thell, If you drop me an email to [email protected] I will forward you the conversation that Bewitched, 3K and myself have been having re the meet up on Sunday. Bewitched and I have sent a photo to each other and 3K to help recognise one an other so if you have the technology...perhaps you can attach a piccie to your email.

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 11:05

I hate you all Poo to all the babyshow people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ixel · 18/10/2005 11:11

, Amanda. Not sure I can say more than echo the sentiments of everyone else, as I seem to read the thread last, as usual. But I'm sure if she does read this, she'll know that we are all genuinely concerned about her.

Thell... where abouts in London are you? It would be so nice if you were close to me!!
I'd really like to meet you all at the show, but not sure if I can be bothered to trek all the way there from N20, plus my mother in law will be here so not sure about the etiquette of escaping. And its so expensive to get in!!

3k · 18/10/2005 11:19

TicTac can you send me your pic, I got Tabs but not got one of you yet? I will try and get a pic to you too at some point. Thell it would be great to meet you too and hello to Poppy and and gmh.

thell · 18/10/2005 11:24

Ixel & Poppy - I'm in SE13 (bandit country!)
So obviously meeting in the west end etc is easy peasy.

Tictac - will send an email with photo. Seems to take all the mystery out of it somehow - whatever happened to wearing a red carnation?!

TicTac · 18/10/2005 11:30

Ixel - it's only £11 if you pre-book your ticket, you will get loads of freebies, you get to meet us wonderful ladies and on top of all that, you might manage to get a good discount on stuff your interested in. As for the MIL...bring her and her cheque book along

3k, Thell - will send piccie. Might be tonight, not sure I can do it from here...Will have a go though!

Chloe - There is still time for you to come I am sure you can play the "we need to go" card to DH...especially as he has just got back from the stag do....and he still drinks etc... Your DH must hate us, weencourage you to get into alsorts of trouble

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 11:37

Well I would but it is Dhs bday tm and my mum is doing us Sunday lunch so that's that day out of the window and I am out with my nan on sat and can't let her down. If it was the week after I would probably have been able to persuade DH (and to treat me to a London show) never mind I honestly do hope you all enjoy yourselves though.

ixel · 18/10/2005 11:38

I know, but I dont really need anything except a new papoose or sling, so the discounts dont really swing it for me! And I still have lots of unopened freebies from last year, that I decided to save for this baby... changing mats, bibs, a babygro etc etc. I really just want to come for the nose around. Maybe we'll come as a family, but its unlikely! Last year, I missed ds so much... it was my first time out without him. But i cant face taking him either, as he'll want to run around, I'll be stuck chasing him with the buggy, I wont be able to carry as many freebies etc.

thell · 18/10/2005 11:46

Ixel - you could come and buy a sling, then get DH to carry your DS around the show!! Good practice,...

flamebat · 18/10/2005 11:46

I was trying to be restrained and not do another face at you all!!!

I can't be trusted to go - we have minus numbers of money right now

My sling is a ring sling... its a goddessmums one (\link{http://www.mumzmall.com\mumzmall), but she's stopped selling them for a while

thell · 18/10/2005 11:47

And those extra freebies won't go to waste - send them to Chloe!

flamebat · 18/10/2005 11:50

mumzmall even!

flamebat · 18/10/2005 11:50

Ixel - take him, let him run, and then you can fill up the buggy with the freebies, and not have to carry em!!!

thell · 18/10/2005 11:51

Sorry flame

If it's any consolation, I went to the wedding show just before my wedding, and it was a bit of a disaster.
The tubes were up the spout, so my friend and I spent about an hour hanging about at Earl's Court station in the cold.
Then at the show my friend was attacked by a mad woman selling a brand of brinzing powder you're supposed to be able to use for everything - lips, eyes etc. Her whole face was painted orange before we could do anything!
