Will do...Cot bed mattress just arrived but no cot!

Bewitched · 17/10/2005 16:43

Ooh - have fun TicTac - am sure that you will.
Glad to hear that all went well with m/w too.
Funny how quickly our moods change at the mo isn't it .

Has anyone heard how Amanda's doing?

And I notice that Spacecadet has gone awol again!

TicTac · 17/10/2005 16:53

Hmm...not heard from either. Perhaps Chloe has, I think they are in touch outside of this chatboard.

I have just been sat on the floor in our nursery to be looking through all our baby girls things...We seemed to have bought loads but when actually looking through it, there is hardly anything there...least of all for a newborn!

Can someone help me...when you are in the hospital with your newborn, do you dress her/ him or is it all babygrows?

And - does anyone know where I can get some newborn tights from? you know, the thick winter ones? We have a gorgeous newborn skirt but the poor thing is going to freeze if we don't get her some tights!

Oh and......got my matB1 form from MW today!!

Bewitched · 17/10/2005 17:06

I forgot to ask for my MATB1 - please someone remind me next time I mention I have m/w appointment (5 weeks time)!

Hark at you all looking through all the stuff that you've bought already. We are supposed to take something to NCT on Thurs that we have bought for baby (part of our 'essential purchases' topic), but we only have one thing so far, and that's the most irrestistible soft toy (chubby bear!).

YeahBut · 17/10/2005 17:16

TicTac, stick with babygros in hospital - much easier for nappy changing. We got lots of lovely little outfits for dd1 when she was born, most of which she never wore because they were such a faff when she was so little. Also, they tend to wee and poo everywhere and on everything as soon as you get their nappies off to change them so matching outfits last until the first change!

You'll find newborn tights in all the baby shops / catalogues for the winter. Mothercare, M&S, Next, Blooming Marvellous and John Lewis for definite. Word of warning - unless your dp is double jointed and ambidextrous, he'll never get a pair of tights on a newborn girl. My dh went white at the thought, spent five minutes staring at the things and then asked if they went on either way round, despite the fact that they had obvious feet. Men don't have that girlie knack of gathering up the legs of tights either and try and ram the baby's wee legs into the things as if they were stuffing a sausage.

flamebat · 17/10/2005 17:35

Yup - get him to practice with tights and a cucumber before the baby comes. DD was in vests the whole time we were in hospital - it was a heat wave, and she was very hot even in them!! I'm gonna be so thrown with having to bundle up a tiddly one.

Beware that Adams seems to size their tights big (DD has a pair from her first Christmas - so 6 months old, that still don't fit!!!). Tesco do baby tights too.

thell · 17/10/2005 17:55

Hello lovely ladies!

A friend recommended mumsnet (she has a boy, just 1yr old). I've visited to read product reviews but am new to the whole chat extravaganza.

I'm 26, live in London, and am due with baby #1 on 28th Feb. I'm expecting it to turn up in March, but this thread seemed a more sensible one to join because you'll all be just slightly ahead of me and able to warn me about what's coming

'Morning' sickness was horrible, and only started to go away a couple of weeks ago (I'm now 20+6 wks). Luckily (touch wood) no leaky boobs yet!
But I am feeling pretty strong baby movements, since wk 17. Just wonderful!! I was expecting the rumbly, butterfly sensations everyone describes but no - my little bundle of joy just got straight in there with a right hook!

Planning to move from 1 bed flat to 2 bed house in a few weeks, and can't wait to start preparing properly, painting nursery and installing mobiles, etc. Very keen on having a homebirth and want to do everything I can to get it! Hubbie is nervous, but generally squeamish anyway, so I'm clear to make the decisions

Scan on weds, and we intend to find out what flavour the bean is Only because I am convinced it's a boy (just a feeling I got) that I'd like to know if I'm wrong,...

I left my details with our local NCT booking person about 6 weeks ago but haven't heard anything. Do you think I should check she hasn't forgotten me?

JuA · 17/10/2005 17:56

Hi all
How is everyone? You all sound very organised - I can't even get into the spare room at the moment, and we have not bought anything useful for them only cuddly toys! and mine are likely to be born before most of yours!! I better sort myself out!!
I did email my "nappy advisor" at the nappy lady today to pick her brains about nappies for when they are new born - we used bambino mios for the first 6 months with dd but then we changed to tots bots which are great but I think will be very bulky from new born so I will see what she says.
I have my next scan on Friday to check their growth so hopefully we will find out the flavour then!
Tic Tac - will email you re going out for coffee.
dd was just in baby gros in hospital - they are a bit easier to start with - I would just get ones that fasten down the front as the ones that fasten down the back are a right pain to get on and off and you can guarantee that will be the one they throw up on 5 minutes after you put it on!!
Newborn tights - have you tried mothercare - I don't remember having them for dd - we had a very cute dress that we used to put on over a white babygro which might work with a skirt as well.

TicTac · 17/10/2005 18:41

Thanks for all the tights info...I shall have a look and report on success...I seem to have a thing about needing to buy baby tights...
Thanks for the hospital dress info too! I now have an image of this lovely pink skirt covered in shit....great

Yeahbut...PMSL at the DH story and tights, my DH is here with me and I just read your post out...now he has stopped peeing himself I think he is concerned....he struggles with his own socks

Welcome to the friendly bunch of Feb to be mums Thell! Stick with us..we are not shy I am sure Tabs will add your stats to the stats list but maybe we will wait until you have had your scan...and Jua has had her next scan for flavours!! (Jua is having twins so will be getting photographed more then the rest of us put together)
Did you say you live in the South? A few of us are off to the baby show in olympia this weekend if you can get there. I live in Lancashire but really wanted to go to the show so we are travelling down!

thell · 17/10/2005 19:31

Hurrah!
I'd love to come to the baby show! I'm glad not to be working at the mo, but need to ward off cabin fever with some social activity!
I can go on Friday or Saturday - when and where will you be meeting?

Frizbe · 17/10/2005 21:06

Hi Thell, hope you enjoy it on here with us all!
Tictac, I'll go with JuA on the babygrows, in fact sure that's all dd wore for the 1st 6 weeks! with various layers on top!!

poppyh · 17/10/2005 21:16

Hi all, have been lurking on the March thread, but as baby no 3 has been predicted for end of Feb thought Id say hello. Was 20 weeks yesterday and its good to get to that milestone. This is baby no 3.Live in south East London.
Hi Friz, hope youre good today!!

Bewitched · 17/10/2005 21:36

ladies - you should all look at this thread

message from Amanda

TicTac · 17/10/2005 22:26

Thell - we are going on the Sunday and meeting at 1pm at the pregnacare juice bar. Would be great if you could make it too!

NCT class was good, nice to get DH involved too. There are 5 other couples although only 3 where able to make tonight. They all seem to be nice with only 1 having had a child already (although 17 years ago). We looked at some diagrams of the female body not pregnant and pregnant....my god all our bits are very squashed up!!!!

TicTac · 17/10/2005 22:29

Bewitched - thank you so much for the thread link.

Chloe - you need to read it.

X

flamebat · 18/10/2005 08:56

After all the cr*p that she has been through. I'm sorry, I will post more later, can't stop crying.

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 09:05

Oh no, I was so afraid something like this had happened, I am speechless, utterly speechless. I don't know Amanda and have never met her, I only have connections with her through text because I was interested in buying her car but I know that she has been through so much shit. I honestly can't believe it how awful Do you think I should text her to send our condolescences or is it too soon, I have her address, I could send her some flowers? Oh God, how awful.

I'd like to say a big welcome Thell, I'm sorry that you have just entered this thread on terrible news, not sure what to say really.

flamebat · 18/10/2005 09:06

Right, I'm back, and can see the monitor now.

Thell and Poppy - great to see you

I wasn't impressed yesterday - I went to pick up one of the baby packs from Boots (I think the Emma's Diary one, but i'm not sure), and the coupon had an expiry date on it!!!! Sept 2005!!! The guy refused to accept it What's the point in putting an expiry date on it?? Say you didn't want to get it until after your 20 week scan... you'd be screwed like me Gonna try and work out where it came from so I can complain lots.

Sudden thought last night - those of you expecting boys... it can be handy to still buy a couple of pairs of tights - they can wear them under trousers and it keeps them warmer because they don't have the socks/trouser gap, and they can't yank em off. You can stick a pair of socks over the top if you want them to look manly still

flamebat · 18/10/2005 09:07

Chloe - do you have a paypal account? I would happily put some money in it to go towards some flowers.

Rhubarb · 18/10/2005 09:09

Can I just nip in here to ask Chloe if she would CAT me please with Amanda's address? I've been emailing her for quite a while and would like to send some flowers myself.
Thanks

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 09:19

That's very kind, I do have an account but I will first look for her address tonight and let you know tomorrow. I have it written down on a piece of paper which I have a feeling is in DH's car.

flamebat · 18/10/2005 09:19

Ok

Chloe55 · 18/10/2005 09:28

Sorry Poppy, forgot to say hi to you, got a bit distracted with the Amanda thread.

Frizbe · 18/10/2005 09:40
