You need to be really careful about that 3k, as in the eyes of the law you are DEFINITELY employed and not self-employed, so your employer would be in heaps of sh1t and owe lots of employer's NI contributions to the government if they realised this. Are you paying weekly NI contributions yourself, and doing an annual tax return at the moment?

3k · 06/10/2005 15:11

Hi Tabs,

I'm running a monthly payroll for myself so my tax and NI gets paid and I take the remainding amount as dividend. My boss then pays to do my accounts and any tax on top of that so all is above board. I have spoken to the tax office too re my SMP and whilst I am not earning I have to claim it direct from them and it will be £90 per week approximately.

Just heard from mortgage man, should have a few grand in the bank once it all goes through which puts my mind at rest as I will have some back-up money for the six months I'm off. Dont get me wrong, it will still be a struggle but we will cope!!! YAY!!!!!!!

Also, my boss surpirsed me earlier and confirmed my maternity leave, I'm leaving on 5th Jan, taking a weeks holiday then official SMP starts on 16th. He was really nice about it too, think he realised what a tw*t he was being this morning. Feeling better now too, it must be the stress lifting!!!

Bewitched · 06/10/2005 15:34

Well it sounds like you'll be ok then - I think it's only the employer that gets fined in such a situation, and not the employee, so there's no come back on you (hope you didn't mind me butting in, but as a self-employed person and an accountant I struggle to keep my mouth shut on such matters )

Hurrah for the mortgage man eh, and for your boss turning out to be a human being afterall!

It's very quiet on here today isn't it. Must mean that it's TicTac and Chloe that are the chatterboxes

teuch · 06/10/2005 15:59

hi - you two could perhaps advise me? I'll post under Employment issues so as not to hijack here!

TicTac · 06/10/2005 16:05

Back from scan - everything ok.

teuch · 06/10/2005 16:11

good news Tictac!

killer heartburn today along with tres active baby!

off to late-night shopping

Frizbe · 06/10/2005 16:30

Fab stuff Tic Tac! 3k glad your all sorted out too! well I've been car booting today with dd in tow! ha, that was funny, trying to get her to stay near the stall, luckily my mum came too....not very rich tho, as mainly mums stuff on the stall!

Frizbe · 06/10/2005 16:30

Oh Chloe hope you feel better soon and Amanda, hope everything is ok.

JuA · 06/10/2005 17:15

Tic Tac - glad your scan went well

The car magazine with the supplement about family cars was "What Car?" November 2005.
Dh went to test drive the Renault Espace and was quite impressed with it. We are going to test drive the C8 on Saturday and hopefully the Voyager as well.

3K glad your boss has finally sorted out your maternity leave - it is great to have a final working day to aim for!!

I have had a bit of heart burn today - I hope this is not the start of things to come!! I didn't have it all with dd - I can see myself needing Gaviscon soon!

Mimi5 · 06/10/2005 17:31

HI girls,

Its me here Barefoot Mama - had no access to internet for weeks now -due moving house and renting ......

Found out what my baby is after a lot of soul searching and have been told its a boy. Trust me to buck the trend. I am very upset but baby is well and that should be all that matters. Trying to get my head round it but feeling sorry for myself right now! Anyway - there it is!! Thats my news

TicTac · 06/10/2005 17:36

Hi mimi...so where you desperate for a little girl?? At least you have time to get used to the idea of it being a little boy.

Jua - let me know how the car stuff goes (we are looking ourselves) Up for that coffee some time?

Mimi5 · 06/10/2005 17:49

Yes and i have been so sick (up to 20 weeks) that i had convinced myself..........silly me. henry V111 would have loved me 4 boys and all!

Bewitched · 06/10/2005 19:30

Good news TicTac.

Great to have you back Mimi5 - I only asked about you a few days ago! Sorry to hear that you're disappointed to be having another little boy. I imagine that you'll get used to the idea over the next few months and be as pleased as punch by the time he arrives. Just hope you haven't run out of boys names that you like!

Frizbe · 06/10/2005 20:13

Hi Mimi, glad your ok, if a little shocked by another boy, if its any help you'll probably end up with lots of nice daughter in laws to spoil in another 20 or so years time

popadopalis · 06/10/2005 20:15

Hey girls! Heard you were asking about me. Sorry I haven't been around, been ill and not really on my computer a lot. Really touched that people thought about me though. Only gone back to wrok this week and already wishing I hadn't bothered.

Anyway, an update on me. Still due Feb 8th. Little Baby G is a girl and kicks tons! Can't wait to meet her. She's quite small, not worryingly small but nice and dinky so hopefully she will stay quite small but not too small.

Dh has been my life saver and has done all dishes, cooking and looking after things and me for the past few months. He has missed golf and nights out to look after me and the little one. He is the best man in the world if you ask me but then I'm biased!! His mates think he's under the thumb but it's not me giving orders!!

We're both really excited about our little girl and hopefully I can now enjoy the rest of my pregnancy without futher illness. Haven't been sick for six days now. My record is nine days! Started to get heartburn but got huge bottle of gaviscon to help.

Well, that's me! Sorry about the essay and I'll try and keep in touch better now that I feel better. Hope you are all well. I've got lots to catch up on too.

TicTac · 06/10/2005 20:40

Welcome back pop and I am so pleased you are feeling better. You certainly sound chirpy! I am sure you would have noticed but we have several new members now and lots of flavour babies getting discovered. I think we are about 80% girls at the minute including TicTac!!!

Most have had 20 week scans now..I assume you have had yours and that all is well?!?

Really pleased your back XXX

spacenstein · 06/10/2005 20:51

hi everyone, hi pop, glad you are ok
my friend went for her 20 week scan today and all is well, they hinted to her that she has a boy, she reckons she could see the bits too!
its great having a friend to be preg with

flamebat · 07/10/2005 10:18

Yay to see you back Pops!!! I've been worrying - I remember how rough HG was for me, so wanted to know how you were going.

Mimi - Huge huge hugs - I know there isn't much anyone can say to make you any happier On the bright side, you clearly know what you're doing with boys now

Off for my scan in a bit - no flavorus for me, but a picture all the same

Bewitched · 07/10/2005 10:53

Unusually quiet on here today.

MORNING EVERYONE!

Have fun at the scan flame - make sure you shut your eyes if they go down low - wouldn't want you finding out the flavour by accident!

Welcome back Pops - great to hear that your feeling brighter at last!

TicTac · 07/10/2005 11:48

Don't really feel like I have much to add these days.

I do have a question though...what happens next? Had the scan and then...do we just keep growing until it pops out or is there anything else to do???

teuch · 07/10/2005 13:09

IT'S FFFRRRRIIIIDDDDDDAAAAYYYYY! (sory, needed to get that out...)

Feeling impatient Tictac? I suppose (first-timers anyway) have the classes and the tour of the labour suite and those kind of exciting things - although I haven't decided yet whether to go to antenatal classes yet [scratching chin emoticon].

And we have christmas to break up the long wait too

TicTac · 07/10/2005 13:40

Not really impatient so to speak...just curious about the next steps. We start NCT classes on the 17th and they then run into the NHS classes which are over Christmas and then of course we are in the run up to the big day!!

teuch · 07/10/2005 14:20

I go form being really impatient to going wooooaaahhh....not ready yet!!

I have chosen my pram though...it is a hauck infinity (lovely red) and I will try and do a link!

(very quiet today!!)

Bewitched · 07/10/2005 14:45

Oh my goodness - what a nightmare trying to sort out classes! With DH being away so much I made sure that I booked my NHS classes for Thursday nights really early, and contacted NCT when I was about 9 weeks.

Found out that there's a nearer branch of NCT (even though the further away one is supposedly for my postcode), so called them and I'm first on waiting list for classes, but they are days that DH can't make. Finally got info from the branch I first contacted and their classes are a bad day and miles away - would take nearly an hour to get there!! So just phoned Luton branch, and they've agreed to make class a bit bigger (had agreed to it for someone else beforehand, but then they dropped out) and let me go, but they clash with NHS ones - arrrgghhhhh!!! And they start next week!

So I've signed us up for the Luton NCT ones, and now need to work out what to do about NHS ones. I could try and go to the Monday classes on my own instead I suppose, but then of course I'll have to miss yoga instead!

Sorry for long ramble - just thinking out loud I guess and not sure what to do!

Frizbe · 07/10/2005 15:00

Bewitched, (tabs is it) Go to the NHS ones on your own, I did, bar the middle one where hubbys were activly encouraged to come along, as that was the gorey bit!
Never done an NCT one so can't comment.

Tictac unless they start needling you for gestational diabetes thats about it, bar what teuch has said about ward visits etc, so a fairly quiet month or two with occasional MW visits, then they start seeing you more often nearer the time

Teuch, congrats on choosing a buggy/pram! we're still undecided, but having spoken to my neighbour, she reckons as dd will be 2.4 I should just go with a buggy board, as her dd now that age is very happy riding on hers or walking...so might go for that option for now and then if dd kicks off if we have to do anything long distance, get a cheap double from car boot or something! so much for my skywalker or E3 eh! didn't take much to persuade dh out of that one....

Hope all have a good weekend, I'm off to watch dh and his mates get slaughtered at a wedding in York tomorrow....oh guess who gets to drive sob, sob, sob, soooo unfair.....where's my girlie weekend away in Barcelona next year!! (here's the kids darling, bye, bye )
