Hee hee I'm a bit like you actually, I have bought bits and bats but have held off on the pram/cot front for what seems like an eternity but I have agreed to start on the nursery in a fortnight with a couple of friends - very excited about that!

Frizbe · 28/09/2005 18:08

Tic tac your at least 20 wks aren't you so stuff it and buy it in the sale!
My scans not til the 12th Oct, so can you wait for me! think I'm about the last!

TicTac · 28/09/2005 18:33

Awww we are looking forward to doing the nursery too. Again, we have promised ourselves it'll be the first job post scan!

I am 21 weeks Frizbe. I think you are about our latest scan so yeah....course we will hold off until you are done!

I have got the mother of all headaches and we are due at some friends house in an hour....

Hello its the new one again. Work during the day so wont be on much till the evenings. Dont think i could get away with it at work somehow. Glad to see another one due so close to me Amanada 1.

I dont have my second scan until 21st October so youre not the last one. Antenatal care varies so much i still dont fully know the sequence of events to follow!!! I recieved a letter today to attend the hospital for an antenatal interview?? I attend antenatal appointments at the local clinic so if anyone could enlighten me what that appointment is for would appreciate it

TicTac · 28/09/2005 23:27

mum22soon - not heard of an antenatal interview but you will find that up and down the country events differ greatly! For example, Chloe and I both had earlier scnas because of bleeds. Chloes hospital then cancelled her 12 week scan and she had to wait until 20 weeks however, I was able to attend my 12 and will still be having a 20 week scan (although at almost 23 weeks!)

Morning everyone,

Sorry but I am going to rant! DH and I were discussing finances last night and after he had a long conversation with his sister he came to the conclusion that I am finishing work for maternity too early and that we can't afford for me to do that. I am bloody furious.

I planned to finish at xmas (so officially the 2nd Jan) giving me 6 weeks before baby is due. My reasons for this are:

  1. I work fulltime and do not want to go straight from fulltime work in a job I despise to caring for my child and being tired.

  2. I have no intentions on coming back to work here (work don't know that) so will be looking for work in veterinary nursing (what I am officially qualified in) after my maternity pay dwindles.

  3. I will not be coming back to fulltime employment regardless so we will have to get used to a pay drop anyway.

  4. I am on a shit wage anyway, I hate what I do so can't see that a few weeks is going to kill us on the cash front.

  5. What if the baby comes early?

His sis worked right up until she dropped but she worked as a health visitor for the NHS, loves her job, good maternity package and intended to return there she also has her mother for childcare whilst she is working so I can see why she chose this route.

My DH is on a half decent wage and we will be saving in some respects as I won't be using much petrol and we are cutting back on certain luxuries we currently have so I think we will be ok but he is being so OTT about everything. Am I being out of order by finishing 6 weeks before hand?

Chloe55 · 29/09/2005 08:56

Gonna post this under a topic as realised I am using up so much antenatal topic space - soz!

MrsDoolittle · 29/09/2005 09:00

Hi Ladies, I just can't keep up with this busy thread. Mind you, I have been away for four weeks!

I have my 20 week scan today. I have just done my last wee.

YeahBut · 29/09/2005 09:04

Chloe, it's your body, your baby. If you feel that 6 weeks prior to your due date is as much as you can handle, then do that. Tell your dh and sil that when they are juggling a pregnancy and a stressful crappy job, then they can give you advice!

BTW, bear in mind that most first babies are late. I planned to give up work 4 weeks befor dd1 arrived. She was 2 weeks late and so I ended up with 6 weeks off prior to the birth. Having said that, a friend of mine stopped work at 37.5 weeks only to give birth 2 days later!! You have to do what feels right for you and no-one else.

TicTac · 29/09/2005 09:20

Chloe, There is another alternative that your DH can not influence! Go off sick! if you have no intentions of returning there anyway and you would still get paid. Just check out when the company will force you to start mat leave!

I am finishing 4 weeks before due date on MAt leave but way before that in reality to use annual leave. Part of my reason...and I guess it might be the same for where you are..is that the weather up here can get pretty rough in the winter and I seriously don't fancy having the stress of trying to get into the office on dodgy roads for the sake of a couple of weeks!

Am about to draw up a pros/cons list and that is an excellent one to add re the weather TicTac! I have spent many a morning sliding down my road in the snow praying I miss the parked cars on the way down - very frightening!

Chloe, I think that taking time off sick is a good idea too. I am starting maternity leave on 16th Jan but having the week off before as holiday so that leaes me just over 2 weeks before baby is due. I did want to leave on Christmas Eve but my so called boss (I am self employed but work for my old boss) is really funny about it and I thought I would take some time off after the baby comes rather than before. mind you we still havent had "that talk" about maternity leave dates etc and I feel he is putting it off. He is back from india next week and I'm going to try and get him to commit to a conversation so I know what I'm bloody doing!!

My hormomes are all over the place again, very teary and tired all the time. I am getting home around 5pm - sleeping till 7pm then going to bed around 10pm. Shouted at DH at least 4 times this week and last night shouted at the dog as he tripped me up and I have been in enough pain already. Dog sulked, DH gave me a cuddle and I admitted I was fed up being pregnant! Is that bad??? I think with the bleed I had, low lying placenta worries, ligament pains killing me and leg cramps I am just fed up!! Anyone relate to how I feel? Then I feel guilty for thinking this way as I do want this baby so much.

spacecadet · 29/09/2005 10:33

ooppss! sorry everyone, i got called away by the dc;s and forgot to come back on.....honestly!
ok, its a

GIRL!

spacecadet · 29/09/2005 10:34

btw, im not evil or sadistic..just downright forgetful

TicTac · 29/09/2005 10:37

3K dont be feeling guilty about your genuine feelings...like you this is our first baby but I think you and DH have had to go through so much to get pregnant (you are IVF aren't you?) that I guess it is a bit disappointing when you dont feel so great. I know that is how I have felt...almost like pregnancy is not the most wonderful thing in the world that I thought it would be because I feel so crap some days...

But then a couple of days later I can't help but feel so very lucky to be pregnant and can't stop smiling about it!

Keep your chin up hon...

3k · 29/09/2005 10:40

Thanks TicTac, I do feel proud of my bump and when he moves it makes me smile but it's just all the other bits that come with it and I'm soooooooo tired all the time. Still on Nesquick though which is great!!!

Spacecadet - ABOUT TIME!!!!! At least you are just having a normal pregnancy I suppose being forgetful! congrats on the little girl!!!! Little boys are slacking on here I think!!!

Chloe55 · 29/09/2005 10:43

Yeah 3k I'm a bit like TicTac in the sense that some days I feel so crappy and moan about being pregnant but I know exactly what you mean about feeling guilty because we are all blessed with this wonderful thing and don't feel we have the 'right' to moan but it is only human nature! I have a bitch and then go oh but I am so grateful blah blah in case people think I am being a whinger. (Obviously I am grateful) Look I'm doing it again

About bloody time SC - massive congrats to you.

TicTac · 29/09/2005 10:49

At last Space...the sweat was dripping off some of these ladies in anticipation...

Speaking of movement...I have not felt much for the last couple of days...should I be worried?
