New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CupcakesHay · 08/01/2011 17:35

PS. Don't forget about me after you've all had your babies! I'm only going to be 37wks tomorrow.... so I hope you'll be able to all pop in and offer me advice in between feeding/changing/sleeping/eating blue cheese! Grin

plus - when the time comes for my contractions, etc - i'm bound to be on here panicking - so i'll need solid advice then!

Pootle78 · 08/01/2011 17:40

Glad it's not just me with cheese! Have got into the habit of having cheese and biscuits of an afternoon but they have to be digestive biscuits and the cheese something with some flavour, currently chedder with tomato and chilli chutney from Asda!

Been on a tour of the labour ward, can't believe how quiet it was and may look at a waterbirth as the room at our hospital is lovely and much comfier than normal delivery suite (en suite, flat screen tv, mood lighting)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Crystylline · 08/01/2011 17:41

gallic when you make that trip west, let me know and we'll go cheese and ale hunting... especially good with devon cider chutney! (and that's me started off with a new craving!!)

and cupcakes it'll be baby due date lottery round here... any of us that have had early signs will be still here at 40 + 10, sulking and mainlining curry and chillis! whilst the late dates will be popping them out like peashooters (oh that they were pea sized!) Grin Grin

CupcakesHay · 08/01/2011 18:15

Ha ha - wish they would be like peas! mmmm peas... (sorry - got distracted!) - yeah spose so. Just didn't want to be too lonely.

I'm kicking myself - saw a bargain on ebay - that was either buy it now or bid... so i was umming and aahing - and someone else bought it now. Angry

Ooooooh - and just uploaded a photo onto my mumsnet profile - it shows off my lovely glittery copper toenails, and my swollen feet! Grin

pootle can i come to your house for afternoon tea??? you're making me hungry... when's dinner??? (aah - my dad's making it though - advantages of living with your parents!)

RockLover · 08/01/2011 18:43

Oooh I'm addicted to cheese and biscuits too, but it has to be Wensledale at the moment, I like the slightly tart/sour taste.

I am pretty sure I won't go into labour early, mw told me that baby isn't quite as low as he was at my previous appt, but at least he's still head down. I was at least 4 days over when my (loooooooong) labour with dd started, so I am not expecting any miracles with this one.

Also I didn't get any signs either, never had braxton hicks (none at all), no show, no niggly period pains or back ache. I didn't even get an upset tummy until my contractions had actually started, so I shall be very envious of any of you ladies who get "signs".

Am currently worrying about dd, she has a cough that won't go away. It's not serious and she has had loads of tests for various conditions (all negative)and the dr diagnosed it as a "habit" that her body has got into.

But because of this constant coughing, she seems to be getting bad breath from the mucus she sometimes has with it and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. Teeth are all fine, I brush them twice a day and use a child's mouthwash on her. Think I'll be taking her back to the drs as I'm worried she'll get bullied at school if I don't sort it.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 08/01/2011 19:09

Poor little thing your DD. At least there's nothing medical wrong with her and she'll have to learn to not cough. Does she like mints? She could have some tic-tacs (do they make them sugar-free?) or something on hand?

My 1st labour was text book (until the last 2.5 hrs of solid pushing) - show, then waters broke, then bad tummy, was sick, contractions came on and got gradually thicker and faster, then, hey presto, 17hrs after waters broke Hmm, out she popped!! I somehow expect this one to do the same.

Mmmmh. Cheese and biscuits. Stilton, brie and proper goat's cheese. Going to an Italian restaurant tomorrow that does the yummiest goat's cheese thingy with red onion, figure it really can't hurt anymore??

CupcakesHay · 08/01/2011 19:52

Oops - i've eaten quite a bit of goat's cheese - but warm. Shouldn't I have?

I think the baby might have finally moved off my hip. All very sticky out at the front now.

rock your poor DD - agree it's worth trying to sort out especailly on the bullying front - maybe speak to her teacher, just to give a heads up? I have no idea how you can unlearn a bad coughing habit. Is it hurting her?

LadyBuzz · 08/01/2011 20:16

ah rock poor DD.

bubba how is your DD feeling now?

I am feeling like a big whale today, I'm just soooo uncomfortable, ventured into town this morning for Arnica and some birthday pressies for the few days after babyrivesbuzz arrives - January is a very busy month for me! Ooooh and I treated myself to a very flashy handbag but i'm suffering for it now!

cupcakes hope your hip pain has eased with the baby moving.

I have packed my nursing bras from last time 34HH but i'm currently in a comedy sized 40G Shock so i'm thinking they won't fit Hmm- hey ho i'll have to worry about that after Grin

gallicgirl · 08/01/2011 20:23

hey cupcakes

Finally made it back from Sainsburys. I'm not sure I should be allowed to go by myself now my brain doesn't work properly. I didn't have to get much but it seemed hard work. When I was at the checkout, the couple in front of me had a box of Frosties on the belt and now that's all I want Confused. I don't usually eat cereal like that as I don't really consume milk but I think Frosties with full-fat creamy milk would taste gggrrrreeeeaaaatt!

Not sure about the goat cheese issue. I'm not sure if it's mould-ripened or if listeria is a problem. Not much you can do about it now. I'm glad baby has moved for you now and I hope it's more comfortable.

rock does your DD drink a lot of milk? That can be mucus forming and might be giving her a tickle. Perhaps she'll forget about the cough once she's back at school with all its distractions.

Thanks for the invite Crystylline. I'm sure my DP will be more than up for an ale tasting! He needs to book some holiday at work so we'll have to plan what we're doing. I know we'll be in Cardiff for a couple of weeks in August.

gallicgirl · 08/01/2011 20:29

Nice toe-nails cupcakes Grin

Ladybuzz glad you got something nice and at this stage handbags are about the only things that fit right :)

I'm slightly shocked by bra sizes but I'm a bit on the small size anyway. I've gone from 32B/C to 36E, much to DPs delight. (can't believe I'm disclosing my bra size to strangers!!!)

LadyBuzz · 08/01/2011 20:35

"New Bagcgi.ebay.co.uk/Helen-Rochfort-Eat-Me-Drink-Me-BRAND-NEW-/320628182396?pt=Women_s_Bags&hash=item4aa6edcd7c"

gallicgirl its amazing what you can admit on here Grin

LadyBuzz · 08/01/2011 20:35

oh feck i'm crap at links!

gallicgirl · 08/01/2011 20:48

oooo cake! Grin

yeah, in the grand scale of things admitted around here which are TMI, bra size is the least of my concerns. Besides, I like my cleavage.

:)

ZippyPippy · 08/01/2011 21:18

Lots going on today I see!!

I went out for FIL's birthday lunch and got very grumpy as it was a 40 min drive and there seemed to be potholes EVERYWHERE, is SO uncomfortable being in the car now. Poor DH kept getting blamed for not driving carefully enough.

I'm not going in the car any longer than 10 mins now, it's just too uncomfy plus I don't want a long drive back to the hospital if I go into labour!!

My bump feels like a bowling ball too!!

CupcakesHay · 08/01/2011 21:48

Evening all!

Well - i'm postively bounding GrinGrinGrin

The baby has DEF moved off my hip - I tested by standing on one leg and wasn't in agony. It's stil stiff - but i reckon tomorrow i'll be able to walk properly! HURRAH!

love the bag ladybuzz

And i have no qualms about telling you girls anything - after all - we've discussed discharge, so what's a bra size between friends?

OOoooh zippy potholes whilst driving is not good in this last month. I feel for you - and good plan on the 10 mins drive! Hopefully you had a ncie lunch though?

And gallic stop talking frosties - you've got me dreaming of them now!

I've just treated myself to a Benefit Make up Kit from ebay - it was sold out over Christmas and I was GUTTED... but found on ebay - and managed to get it for £3 more than it was in Debenhams, so not too bad... hang on let me link make up - finally have got the hang of linking!

Oh, and pleased you like the toenails gallic Wink - so glittery - but the glitter hides all the smudges!

saltnvinigarcrips · 09/01/2011 01:00

I have eaten stilton and brie and goats cheese pretty regularly since 2nd trimester and have had no problems. I've never had listeria before from cheese and the risk doesn't increase because you're pregnant. Also listeria can be got from bagged lettuce and I've eaten that too. At the risk of inviting criticism I really don't feel I have been irresponsible - Ooh, it's all very controversial. Sorry if I sound cavalier . . .

saltnvinigarcrips · 09/01/2011 01:06

although I will say that the stilton did nothing to help my acid indigestion so swings and roundabouts . . .

Shanster · 09/01/2011 03:39

I'll join you in the controversy saltnvinegarcrisps, I'm in the US where they have some very funny ideas and I think they find me to be very irresponsible for having the odd cup of coffee, deli meat (turkey etc), a diet coke on occasion, a glass of wine about once a week and as you can imagine the list goes on. The girl at the till in the office canteen last week told me off for having a turkey and spinach wrap and a coke whilst pregnant. However, I have a healthy (well, mostly) balanced diet and I have yet to see anyone reprimand a pregnant woman for eating a burger, fries and a sprite even though there isn't much nutrition there. Some days it seems as though everyone has an opinion about what pregnant women can and can't do...Sorry, rant over now.

Hey, for those of you with more than one DC, did you replace the cot mattress for each baby? I'm wondering if I have to?

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 09/01/2011 06:46

I didn't with the first and second Shanster but only out of naiivity. I have bought a new one for the crib for this baby. Not sure if I will for the cot (once baby turns 6m or so) as it's wipeable and the cover is washable.

Back later, birthday songs are about to happen :o :o :o

Crystylline · 09/01/2011 07:03

have been eating goats cheese a little, as for ages didn't realise it was on the "banned" list.

I think i've cut down more than cut out, same goes for coffee.

shanster - why is turkey on the evil food list?

bubba - ooh, is it your birthday? happy birthday to you, if so, or happy birthday to whoever's it is!

woke up at 4am, dozed until 5.30 and then gave up. just been feasting on toast and honey and writing shopping lists.

even found a women's mag that i've been reading - not even sure how it ended up in my house... i never read them. was very entertaining!

and zippy i'm so with you on potholes and being in a car - any longer than half hour and it's too uncomfy, especially if i'm a passenger.

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 09/01/2011 07:44

My birthday :o

Been awake since 5 waiting for my family to be as excited about it as me :) They're all downstairs now making me breakfast in bed :o :o

Goat's cheese is only 'off' if it's the yummy stuff with white rind round it. I'm one for cutting down rather than cutting out, although I have hardly touched any alcohol at all - just hasn't tasted right anyway.

FloraPost · 09/01/2011 08:59

Happy birthday Bubba.

Ahem drum roll

My beautiful DS was born on Thursday morning!

I have been trying to get my shit together since then to tell you ladies, but it turns out life with a newborn isn't so conducive to webmonging! DS is having a rare sleep right now so I will try to get the detail down.

After nearly a week of daily monitoring, we saw the consultant on Wednesday who said the baby had to come out straight away Shock. He sent us up to the delivery suite to get induction started. I got very upset because it was so sudden and because an induction was top of my list of Do Not Want, especially as they wouldn't have let DP stay with me. After a bit of tantrumming on my part, they agreed to do a section instead and I was nil by mouth from then on as they thought they could do the section at 8pm. I had a shower and made a hideous mess of shaving my bits Blush. The night rolled on, I was given pre-meds and put on a drip, but at about 2am they admitted they wouldn't be doing me that night because they had forgotten I was on the list Hmm. DP went home to try to kip (the hospital wouldn't give him a pillow or anything) then at 5am they told me they would be ready in half an hour. DP came back in and after some further faffing we were taken to the operating theatre at about 7:15am. Despite not having eaten for 20 hours, I had a last pregnancy vom for old times' sake. All the op staff were lovely and chilled, the spinal went in almost painlessly, and 5lb 13oz DS was born at 8am exactly. He came out all shouty and pink and got 10/10 on his apgar scores. DP cuddled him while they sewed me up then we were taken to a low-lit recovery ward where a lovely midwife spent an hour with us including showing me how to feed, although DS is a pro in that department and needed no help.

I will gloss over the abosolute horror show which was the 'care' I received on the maternity ward. Suffice to say we have made a formal complaint to the Director of Nursing & Midwifery (who DP knows, which is a bit of luck) and I discharged myself without a doctor's approval the day after the section.

DS has been seen by a few paediatricians (all of whom were fab) because they are pretty sure he has Down's. If anyone remembers as far back as 12 weeks, our odds were 1:1600ish. We will have the genetic test results next week, but we think the doctors are probably right. Obviously it is far too early to know exactly how he might be affected, but he is a good size for his gestation (36+6) physically strong, alert, feeds well and has no detectable heart problems, so looking good atm. If the test results confirm Down's then we will see a specialist paed in 4 weeks.

DP has been beyond wonderful looking after us both. I have been gingerly up and about since Friday and can lift DS with no probs. My scar is still sore but the midwives are pleased that it is healing really well. The section was definitely the right option for me and I would absolutely have one again. My milk came in yesterday and my boobs are now sore but epic! People pay good money for such things Grin. Off to the shops tomorrow for a pump and some properly fitted tarpaulins.

I don't want to put the name on the interweb, but if any of the regulars are busting to know, I'll pm you.

I'M NOT PREGNANT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 09/01/2011 09:14

HURRAHHH!! Massive, massive congratulations flora fantastic news :)

Sorry you had a crappy time with care on the maternity ward, but so pleased for you all that your little bundle is with you safe and well! Milk in so soon after a c-section is great news too - and glad he's a good feeder.

You're a clever thing! :o :o

ZippyPippy · 09/01/2011 09:45

WOW!! CONGRATS FLORA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful news Grin He sounds absolutely wonderful. Bit Shock that they 'forgot' you were on the c-section list and you got horrid aftercare but glad he is doing well and feeding - that's the bit I'm most worried about.

So exciting, well done you.

and a very Happy Birthday bubba - guess baby won't be sharing your big day unless things kick off soon Wink

LadyBuzz · 09/01/2011 09:53

Congratulations flora sounds like you have had a right time of it you poor thing.
