New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyBubbaAndBump · 05/01/2011 21:21

PML - I must have skim-read the (eek) in your thread as week!!!

sorry :o

about the third apology this week to one of you lovely mums on this thread!! Blush

CupcakesHay · 05/01/2011 21:38

No probs. I was just a bit Blush that you think i'd be that minging - i mean 6 days is bad for me!!!!

Can you imagine - after i was boasting about painting my toenails glittery - to have unwashed hair for 6 weeks... Grin

to recap def. dates we know...

bubba - 11th
ladybuzz - 18th

Anyone else?

LadyBubbaAndBump · 05/01/2011 21:41

I did think 6 weeks was a lot minging, but wondered if it was in protest at not having your DH with you!! :o :o :o

11th for me is only a sweep though, not a C-S, so not definite.

gallicgirl · 05/01/2011 22:37

Apparently, if you can go without washing your hair for 6 weeks, it's starts cleaning itself.

personally I can't go 2 days without washing it and I think some people's dreadlocks always smell a bit skanky so I'm not sure how accurate that random bit of trivia is.

CupcakesHay · 05/01/2011 22:57

Well - it was getting pretty minging - like i said - if I was able to get in and out of shower properly or could bend or lift arms, it would have been washed. As it was I went back to old fashion sponge and basin wwashing - which is not recommended in my opinon. There's a reason god invented the shower!

Now TMI - I have pretty bad smelly farts last couple of days Blush which is lovely for my parents. Eating habits haven't changed - can I blame it on baby???

saltnvinigarcrips · 06/01/2011 00:14

Right first off, everyone is going on about arnica cream but at the risk of sounding like an ignoramus what is it for exactly?
Pootle my mw thought I was breech as she couldn't feel the head. My first thought was the head must've fallen off but then I realised that was completely ridiculous. Luckily I was sent for a scan on the day and all was well so I guess sometimes the mw just can't feel it.
I am still waiting for cleaning bug to kick in but can't face cleaning the bath but at least I am on top of the laundry for a change and I dug out the iron and ironed all of baby's freshly washed things.. . I never iron so rock I am feeling very pleased with myself.
Anyway, I've been doing some reading online tonight and am starting to wonder if I am already dilating? or thinning or whatever it's called as I keep getting sharp vaginal pains (tmi?) and from what i've read you can dilate before even going into labour. Experienced people have you had this before or heard this? Been looking on mn but not found any thread about shooting pains so wondering if it's just me. Please tell me someone else is getting this - bubba you're due same time as me - are you getting this?

saltnvinigarcrips · 06/01/2011 00:22

lol at cupcakes smelly farts. I reckon you can blame it on the baby.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 08:29

Hey salt I get sharp pains from time to time, but they're less shooting pains and more a quick, sharp pain in my bladder/uterus area which I've attributed to bouncing baby on the wrong spot. If you're worried, give your MW team a call and they'll be able to put your mind at rest.

LadyBuzz · 06/01/2011 08:30

salt I think you can start to thin and dilate before labour. I am definately getting similar pains by the sounds of it but despite having 2 babies I have no idea what that is as I didn't go into labour with either of them!!

Arnica helps with bruising, I use them in tablet form as that can help internal and external. HTH.

Got MW today for probably the last time unless she has a burning desire to see me next week Hmm

12 day to go!!!!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 08:36

LadyB what happens if you go into labour naturally in the next 12 days? Do they whizz you in for an emergency C-S?

RockLover · 06/01/2011 09:30

Morning ladies! Urgh I feel utter shite this morning, these iron supplements are taking a definite toll on my tummy. I am bloated, gassy, tummy aches and nausea is worse again. I'm very fed up.

I was a horrible shouty Mum this morning to dd (although she was ignoring everything I said) when we were getting ready for the school run. I do have a quick temper, which has been made a million times shorter by this pregnancy, so I feel sorry for anyone who gets in my bad books. I must learn to count to 10!

I'm still waiting for the mw to call and say she has a space for my pre-birth appt. Although to be honest I don't really feel up to sitting in the surgery discussing birth options for 1/2 an hour, which is pathetic I know.

I am going to get on with packing my hospital bags today, and I have a a HUGE pile of washing up to do. Don't think I can manage any more than that today.

Sorry that's all very gloomy lol, hope the rest of you are having a good day.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 09:31

Right, have got my TENS machine sorted - instructions read and battery checked. Charging camera battery and mobile. About to go out and buy ribena and some more crisps (some greedy good for nothing pig I went into my hospital bag, which is in the car, dug deep and ate the crisps that were in there!!!) :o ;o Blush Hmm

Showing my age here, but also about to go to a material shop to buy some cloth to make some cushion covers for our new room :) Blush (and to finish off the bunting I started in the summer - cos that will come in useful Hmm :o

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 09:33

Sorry, x-post Rock. Sorry you're feeling blue :(

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 09:35

Oh, and going to get change for the astronomical parking charges at the hospital! Angry

RockLover · 06/01/2011 10:41

Bollocks! Mw just called and they cannot fit in a pre-birth appt yet again today as they keep getting called to the labour ward (not their fault I know).

However, they can't guarantee a visit tomorrow either, so they may require me to dash into the surgery literally so they can just check blood pressure, urine and baby. That's fine, but I am now starting to worry that I am not going to be able to talk to anyone about birth options, and what I'm worried about.

I am presuming I won't go into labour early, but I am getting concerned about not having chat about options. I was not offered ante-natal classes as this is dc2 and as such I have not had a look round delivery suite. This wouldn't matter, but I moved in June to a completely different area and I have only been to the scan dept in the hospital, so I don't even know what facilities the hospital has!

I'm really nervous now, the mw apologised and said the situation was dire, but that's not really going to help my situation is it?

Crystylline · 06/01/2011 11:25

aw Rock

that's crappy in extremis. could you go up to the labour ward/mat assessement unit instead?

you could always run through your birth plan on here with us... not sure if we'd be any help, except moral support, but the offer's there x

i think from the NHS main site you can search hospitals and see what provisions their maternity depts have. I know I did with mine and it gave me all the facilities, as well as their records on types of deliveries etc

and good morning everyone else. Had a huge lie in today which has put me in a very strange mood - i never sleep late, so poss have over-tired myself and now need to remember to chill out a bit more!

but, the cleaning list is growing and have new furniture being delivered today, which is flat pack - so there may be a series of loud expletives from the Devon area later on as I fail utterly to put it together.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 11:27

That's crappy Rock - does the hospital not do 'tours' around the labour ward etc? Ours does an 'open' hour a week every week IIRC - might be worth checking out.

Might also be worth posting on your local MN thread to see if any other MNers have used that hospital before?

LadyBuzz · 06/01/2011 11:44

rock how awkward for you. Hope you get it sorted. I'm a proper grumpy arse too, it is very hard work being this pg, esp with other LOs.

bubba yes as far as I know if I go into labour it will be an EMCS, the registrar said I have to phone immediately if anything at all happens.

CupcakesHay · 06/01/2011 12:01

Poor you rock Sad it's all crappy for you. Def have a look online - mine doesn't do tours but had online tour - and try asking in the "devon" section of mumsnet to see if anyone can give you any advice about what might be there. That's what i did for my hospital.

I'm with you on the lie in crystylline i got up at 10.30! In my defence managed to lie down last night in bed (YAY!) and even though I woke up more achey than not lying, I think my ribs are finally getting better. Have fun with that flat pack furniture! hint from my dad - count all the screws etc first, and seperate them as some are so similar you might use wrong one in wrong bit.

lady is TENS machine easy to use - i'm getting mine next week and praying it's not going to be too confusing Confused as my brain can't cope with anything lately.

Hope your pains are a bit less painful salt

Right off to the midwife - almost forgot my wee sample - but luckily just remembered i need to squeeze one out!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 06/01/2011 12:10

Yes, cupcakes is very easy to cope with - I've had three different sorts so far and all pretty much the same. Stick the pads correctly onto your back (you'll need help with this - worth getting your mum to look at them with you in case your DH isn't here in time) - positioning is quite important for them to work best. Most machines come with picture instructions too. Plug the pads in to the TENS machine itself, and once contractions start, off you go, buzzing away. You can soup it all up to top buzzing and there's normally an extra button to press to give you a top up! Swore by them in the early stages of DD1 until I jumped in the bath.

RunningKatie · 06/01/2011 12:16

TENS machine arrived this morning, so got to figure that out.

Been to the gym, where bump told me it needed jaffa cakes to go with the coffee. :)

Rock, that's really not good at all, we were able to just book ourselves in for a tour of the labour suite. MW told me yesterday that a lot of ladies on this road are pregnant at the moment, no idea who - it's a cul-de-sac but I hardly know anyone despite living here for 9 years!

Going to hopefully book our wedding this afternoon Grin

RockLover · 06/01/2011 13:27

The nearest hospital to me is in Torquay which is a agood 20/25 min drive, so that's why I think I am not being offered a mw appt there.

And tbh, I don't feel like driving it at the moment and dp doesn't drive. I will look online and see what I can find out. It's a tad scary thinking about how we'll get there when I'm in labour, we have been offered lifts by friends, but if I have to go in a few times, not sure how that will work.

Dp is a bit clueless as it's his first and didn't realise that you don't automatically get admitted to the delivery suite even if you're contracting. Also need to figure out who will look after dd until my parents make it down (3-4 hour drive).

I am really having a big panic about it all today and it doesn't help that I have horrendous tummy ache from my iron supplements. I am already dreading the school run in just over an hour. I need a chill pill lol.

Crystylline · 06/01/2011 13:31

RockLover · 06/01/2011 13:34

Thanks. x

RockLover · 06/01/2011 13:43

Well there are no pictures, but it does say the maternity unit was found to be one of the best in the country in 2008. Lets hope its standards are still the same now.

I had a bad experience with many of the midwives (long labour) I had with me when I was in labour with dd who made me feel like the things that happened were all my fault. Also, the majority of my aftercare was appalling and my dignity and feelings, on the whole, were completely disregarded. This was in Northampton General hospital.

Hence I am a little apprehensive that this time round I will be listened to and not treated like an idiot. That's what I really want to talk to the mw about, so that I can go into labour and feel confident rather than just terrified.
