Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Can't be third trimester - we're only just over half way! Maybe they mean the end of the second trimester as in the last month of the second trimester.

Otherwise I need to get organised, and actually tell people...

Jaylar · 21/12/2010 14:53

ecuse 28 weeks is the end of the 2nd trimester as far as I know?? It is also the point where in the UK more than 90% of babies who are born survive. It felt like reaching a real milestine when I passed that point with DD.

Thanks to Lisa McA, BeetleBaby and Becky90 for SPD tips. Beckie90 I've got a birthing ball at home. What exercises were you told to do to help the pelvic pain?

I have midwife app on Thusday and I've been referred for phsyio but that won't happen till after Xmas. Have bought myself the Davina McCall exercise DVD which is apprently very easy and has lots of fanny exercises (as my sister calls them)in it. Has anyone given it a go?

I know you are supposed to do pelvice floor exercises and how much they help (who wants to be incontinent before they're 40) but they just feel weird. Probably not as weird as peeing yourself everytime you cough so best just get on with them I suppose.

MrsWajs · 22/12/2010 02:21

jaylar lol @ fanny exrecises :) I have been sporadically practisinf my pelvic floor exercises but I'm pretty sure not quite enough to ward off premature incontinence!! Hmm

ChessyEvans · 22/12/2010 12:18

In my prima baby magazine it puts 3rd Trimester as starting at 24 weeks... I suppose the first trimester ends at 12 weeks so if they were equal in size then the 2nd would end after another 12. I think maybe the thinking behind it is that by 36 weeks the baby is ready, although most aren't born for a while after that.

"Sporadically" would be a kind way to put my efforts at pelvic floor exercises!! I have heard it recommended that you put little stickers around the house and every time you see a sticker you have to do some exercises... I might try that as I never seem to remember!

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 22/12/2010 14:28

I'm rubbish at doing pelvic floor exercises too. I need someone on MN to namechange to doyourkegels or something! That way I might stand a chance of remembering.

Scan went well although awkward baby didn't want to show it's profile so we have another one on the 5th Jan! Hope DH will be around for that one. He got given marching orders literally that morning for a lunchtime flight :( and to add insult to injury a delay on one if his flights means he's now on the same schedule as if he'd left after the scan!

hippy3 · 22/12/2010 20:05

havent been on for a few days....! have been stupidly busy with work and other bits..but had another scan today and saw one of the twins faces...tiny button nose and eyes tight shut..couldnt beleive how clear it was !!! nearly cried... am thinking of getting a 3d scan done in January.... am going to cacth up on here when I have time... Hope everyone is ok?? and really looking forward to christmas!Xmas Smile

kittycatcat · 23/12/2010 09:33

Hello everyone.

I havent been on here for almost a week.

Feeling baby boy move alot more now, feels more like a tap than a kick but i love it. Frakkin We also have to go back on 6th Jan as he wouldnt turn so she could look in his heart. She said everything looks fine but they have to check. Nice that we get to see them again :)

caramel sorry to hear about hubby. How's he doing. Hope you are ok and have avoided it so far?

I really dont know what to do about the flu jab. My MIL thinks i should have it (former midwife) but instinct tells me not to. I know this was bought up on here before but can you advise me please ladies?

Petalouda · 23/12/2010 09:59

Morning all,
I've just had my flu jab this morning. I didn't have to think about it too hard - I'm asthmatic, so I have the vaccination every year (I've even had the pneumo-vax, like all the pensioners!). I'd only NOT have had it this time if I'd been specifically warned against it for preg reasons. However, since they're specifically promoting it, there was no question in my mind.

All the vaccine is is an inactive version of the virus - the virus (or viruses) are killed so your body has a chance to make it's own antibodies to mobilise a response if it encounters the virus again in the future. There's no witchcraft, there's nothing dodgy. The vaccination works by getting your body to protect itself.

There's far more risk to me and my baby if I catch flu.

Although, the walk back up the hill almost killed me - so maybe it's not without all risk!

JoEW · 23/12/2010 10:05

Hi all,

Also haven't been on this week as work has gone crazy - not what I was expecting for the week before Christmas. Calmed down now, thankfully, and finishing tomorrow lunchtime for 10 days - hurray!!

I've had a stinking cold all week too, which has made me want to get the flu jab. I wasn't too bothered before but I've felt so dreadful with just a nasty cold that I'm not sure I'd cope with flu. Was so miserable that I cried all the way home in the car, sparked off by listening to The Pet Shop Boys - what is THAT all about?!

Have also been crap at remembering to do pelvic floor exercises - Like your idea of someone changing their MN name, Frakkin, not me though.

Hippy so pleased for you, how cute! I haven't had a 3D scan but the lady who was doing my last scan switched to 3D (I think she was excited because the machine was new) and all I can say is, it looks quite spooky! Apparently the 3D scans look better the older the baby is, as it needs fat to look 'real'. Mine looked like it was mummified!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas. And then we'll be in 2011, which is the year we're having our babies! I supposed I had better buy at least one baby related item before 1st Jan....

lucielooo · 23/12/2010 15:56

Well VAT goes up on the 4th so have pencilled in the first few days of Jan to make expensive baby related purchases like pushchairs as I'm hoping we might get some deals in the sales, but before the VAT goes up. Probably won't make much difference but every penny counts! I'll be 26 weeks then.. do you think that's a reasonable time to start shopping?

kittycatcat · 23/12/2010 16:23

Lol i have pretty much finished at 22 weeks lucie so yes :)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/12/2010 18:44

Ha ha ha joEW, I know what you mean about the baby looking mummified. I said how much the baby looked like Skelator from Thundercats!!

Today I came down with another cold (the 3rd in a constant row) thanks to dh spreading his bloody germs everywhere - the shitbag.

Apart from that all is well and the baby's movements are getting stronger and more frequent. It's not keen when I lay on my stomach in bed, it gave me a walloping great kick in the (full) bladder when I woke up this morning.

MrsWajs · 24/12/2010 00:22

I am now thinking I should also get flu jab after being pretty much against it in the beginning! DP and parents all nagging me to get it done, do you just get the normal one or the swine flu one or are they both covered by one jab?? Asks me the nurse!!!

I think I potentially have a urine infection coming on, been feeling a bit squeamish this evening and now my kidney area is aching a little bit :( been feeling the need to pee a lot too but when I go I don't do much although had originally put that down to baby lying on my bladder as I've had iot before. Am at work so will do a little test and see what it shows!

caramellokoalalover · 24/12/2010 08:29

MrsWajs the flu jab is both flu and swine flu in one. And I was asked to come back in 4 weeks for a booster shot for the swine flu as well.

I only wish I had had it sooner! DH's fever has gone but he's still really ill. I came down with it the day after the jab, although I don't think that's related, I think I was just too late in getting the jab. I haven't taken any anti virals though as I was hoping the jab might help in some way. Now DS is ill too Xmas Sad

Sorry to read so many others are ill too. Hoping we all feel a bit better for tomorrow!

beckie90 · 24/12/2010 17:04

jaylar i was told to do pelvic tilts on it, looks really dodgy though lol, u like arch your back in and stick your bum out and then roll your hips forward, so kinda rocking backwards n forwards, she said it was good for tummy muscles too. and also pelvic circles on it, however i dont see how it would help much, so ive kinda given up on the ball now. they told me to try and keep active but it just gets so painful when ive been doing things especially walking with pram.

AprilMeadow · 24/12/2010 19:12

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 25/12/2010 07:35

Merry Christmas everyone!

CountScoutula · 25/12/2010 09:59

hippy3 · 27/12/2010 11:33

Hope everyone has had a fab christmas...me and my DP got the best christmas pressie ever...felt the first proper kick yesterday. Was so strong it made me jump ! DP had a tear in his eye...was brilliant ..am sure I will not be sayin that in a few weeks when I acnt sleep cause of it !!

hope everyone is good.....xxx

Liv77 · 27/12/2010 21:50

Hope you've all had a lovely xmas. I really enjoyed it this year as DS was now old enough to understand and get all excited about Father Christmas. Xmas Grin
He did get a little upset at bedtime on Boxing Day though as he wanted to hang up his stocking again and I had to explain that if he did it would still be empty in the morning.

I sky+ One Born at Christmas and started watching some last night. I'll blame the PG hormones that I was crying within seconds of the first birth.

I really felt for those in the neonatal unit, some of them had been born at 25/26 weeks, that would be like us giving birth now Xmas Shock.
I have told my bump that it is not allowed to appear to early, hopefully it was listening.

LisMcA · 28/12/2010 21:55

Beckie, do you realise you've just decribed the time warp!!!

LisMcA · 28/12/2010 21:56

if somewhat sober! I am by the way!!!! Not a drop has passed my lips!

Liv77 · 28/12/2010 22:19

Lis you're a better woman than I, i have given in to the temptation of Bailey's. Xmas Grin

JustKeepSnowing · 29/12/2010 11:32

Merry Christmas all - i too have allowed myself a glass or two of wine :)

My parents have been here for a few days but gone home this morning, it's a relief to have the house back tbh, and as we've had the decorations up since Nov (for PIL Christmas) I've started on taking them down already!

Want to get them put away in the loft and then i feel i can focus on sorting out the baby room.

We have pretty much everything purchase-wise, i still fancy the new Recaro Zen buggy but it's not on sale til sometime next year so will have to pay the extra VAT on that. Good luck to anyone shopping though, it is fun :)

LisMcA · 29/12/2010 11:58

ah, Baileys!

None of that going around so i managed to avoid the temptation! SIL gave DH a bottle of Jack Daniels for christmas! I made him open it so I could smell it!! Is it bad that i want a JDE and coke as soon as buster arrived? Hmm

BTW I wasn't being sactimonious or anything about drinking! I'm not a big drinker and have issues about drinking in front of my father (don't know why, makes me feel like I'm a schoolgirl again) :o

I've just remembered the bottle of baileys in the cupboard from last christmas, will it still be ok??
