Hi all - I think I must be the last October due date now overdue by 5 days!! I've just had a first bit of show (not loads though) so hoping that this is finally it!

AbFabT · 05/11/2010 21:49

Many congratulations, Katy. Hello, Harvey.

Ooh, honeymoo, let's hope this is it for you! Best of luck!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 01:21

Congratations Katy!!
Honeymoo-good luck :)

We are all a bit quiet here-it's full on atm isn't it! Dd is doing well, still snotty but feeding well. Took her first bottle of ebm tonight-dh over the moon, me tinged with sadness. She has however skipped a feed, so totally engorged.

I hope you are all ok :)

AbFabT · 06/11/2010 02:22

It is very quiet, Sea. I keep checking in for updates - easier to read than type, with DS spending so much time attached to me! Not that I am complaining about that!
He's four weeks today - the time has flown so fast. And he's changed so much too, I can't believe the difference from birth to a mere four weeks later. Really filled out, lots more hair. Fingernails are growing at a speed too - I think I am trimming them every other day!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 04:59

Dd was 4 weeks yesterday- and we are getting coos and possibly the start of a smile. If they could be both be well we'd be sorted :) still, better night from both of them for the first time in a week!

floozietoozie · 06/11/2010 07:07

For those whose feeding is going well, particularly s they are a few weeks old, how often are you feeding would you say, a d how ong does each feed last?

Congrats Katy, goodcluck honeymoo!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 07:21

Every 1.5-3hrs depending on clusters/growth spurts/out the house etc. Last 15mins, longer if I do a nappy change to make sure second side is efficient. But I have a fast let down so flood her, fill her with wind so we are pretty freq.

How are you getting on?

Xavielli · 06/11/2010 08:25

Only on day 8 here but Finn seems to be going every 3-4 hours (from the end of a feed) and feeding for a good 45-90mins. He completely deflates both sides, so hoping for a bit of weight gain today at the MW.

Congrats Katy ILGH and anyone else I missed.

Good luck honeymoo

So, birth story;

Went to the consultant on the Thursday and she said I was 2-3cm and did a sweep. I decided to walk home from the hospital and as I was I started having definite contractions, although they were not painful. DP came home from work and we chilled out for the evening. Tightenings coming every 5 mins but still not painful.

Went to bed at about 9pm (party animal that I am) and was up again at midnight as they started tweeking a bit! Came down stairs and tried to get comfy infront of the TV, napped in between contractions. By 8am, DP came downstairs because he heard me mooing! and we decided that it was probably time to be getting things sorted. I called the DC's Dad and he came round right away (something I'd been worried about).

I then spent half an hour panicking that I couldn't get through to labour ward until I realised I was dialing the wrong number!! Got the right number and got through. Taxi came within 3mins of us calling - driver was wonderful, got us there quickly, safely and went slowly over the bumps.

Arrived at hospital at 9am and there were no delivery suites available so were put in a very small accessment room, examined and found I was 7cm. I was so relieved as I was worried it was all just false. At about 10.30 they moved us to a delivery room but my contractions started getting further apart but much more intense.

MW was great she listened in to baby after every contraction with the handheld doppler so that I wasn't strapped to anything. I refused gas and air (I am an emetaphobe - I would take the pain of labour twice over to avoid being sick, or something that might make me sick). Re-examined at around 11.30 and was only 8cm! So with the next contraction (20mins later!) she broke my waters. There was so much pressure in my back and I really felt like I needed the loo - But not in an 'I'm about to have my baby' kind of way. It was very uncomfortable.

I kinda lost track of timings around here but I remember the midwife going out of the room because baby's heart rate had dipped with the last contraction and she wanted to discuss what to do with the MW in charge. This was when there was a very interesting sound from the end of the bed Grin DP went to try and look and I said 'Don't look it's poo, but the baby is coming now' - So the midwife re-enters the room (after my scream) to see me pushing like a madwoman. I got DS most of the way down the birth canal with that push, but then it was a 15min wait for the next contraction so I knew I had to get him out then. Thankfully I did! at 12.44pm he arrived after 5hrs of labour. And I felt every extra ounce of his 8lb compared to DD who was 6lb. I didn't tear though. Just slight graze which when I felt it (post natal prod in the bath Grin) was like a little papercut.

The MW was spectacular. She just let me get on with it whilst saying I was doing fine, reminding me to breathe and saying that yes, most people do make as much noise as me when in labour Grin I have to admit the sorest part of me the next day was my throat (from screaming) and my neck (from pushing)

DP was absolutely fantastic all the way through, inspite of the way I was wailing, he kept me calm and let me know he knew I could do it. He is madly in love with his Son!

So it was longer and I feel more difficult than my previous labours, but still a very positive experience. And my little man is a corker!

nymphadora · 06/11/2010 08:27

Floozie-approx 3-4 hours feeding for 30-45

Abfab- doing the nail thing too

Katy- Congrats

Honey-good luck

ILoveGregoryHouse · 06/11/2010 10:38

Good luck honey.

Am starting to feel more compos mentis so will post more soon. Milk starting to come in. Just as well as she's frantic to feed.

Hermya321 · 06/11/2010 10:51

Cobgratulations Katie and welcome to Harvey!!

I may need a bit of hand holding, DS is cluster feeding with gusto. But I've developed mastitus and a couple of blocked ducts on my right side. So I'm not feeling that great at the moment.

I hope everyone else is well.

katy congrats and welcome to Harvey, very good weight :)

Xav lovely birth story

BionicEar · 06/11/2010 11:10

Congrats to Katy and ILGH on your babies!

Good luck honeymoo.

All well here though am very parnoid about everything healthwise - David was snuffling a lot last night, but seems a bit better today.

My left boob feels a bit tender and swollen so am hoping it just a blocked duct and nothing more. Hermya - big hug you must be feeling rotten with it.

David been great at sleeping through the night so far (5 hours on the trot) so hoping that will continue.

Right little man need feeding so am off to offer him the sore boob to see if him feeding help reduce pain!

Ivytheterrible · 06/11/2010 12:25

Ahhhhh no time to post or do anything else other than feed, change nappies and sleep!

My lo is now 17 days and I'm feeding every 2 hours during the day for between 15-40 mins each time. I was doing less frequently during the day maybe every 3-4 hours but she was then wanting to feed every hour during the night! Shoving her on more during the day seems to have settled her more at night and since doing this she has only woken twice each night for a short feed. I definitely feel more human for being able to sleep at night.

She gained 11oz in 6 days when weighed yesterday so mw very happy and discharged us. I feel strangely alone now!

Am going to try expressing this weekend to start building a feezer supply that I can start using in a week or so. Am almost enjoying feeding now but I need some life back.

Anyone else got a very clingy baby? I can't put her down without her crying so the sling is a godsend.

DillyDora · 06/11/2010 13:36

floozie feeding max every 3 hrs, min every hour if you see what I mean. Sometimes he'll sleep for 3 hours. I wonder if I keep him on one side for too long (the test is that I squeeze the nip and if there's still milk I just think - marvellous, keep going must be hind milk...) and then express off the other boob as we're supposed to be topping up... He feeds for anything from half an hour of 'proper' focused feeding to 3 hours of solid feeding/hanging out/sleeping and then won't go down on his own - sleeps on my tummy at night, and in our arms in the day. He has managed a couple of naps in the moses basket in the last day or so but not like he used to be. Ivy I think we're in a bit the same phase as you re feeding and clinginess and he's 19 days now and still not back at birthweight.. midwives and weighing on Monday again so I just keep him on the boob/bottle of EBM and pray he's chubbing up...

The one area where I'm really feeling the strain is visitors, I just want everyone to go away. BFing with my Dad peering at my boob going 'ooh he really is drinking isn't he?' yesterday was a lowlight. And all anyone can see of LO is the back of his head as he's on the boob or asleep all the time! Heeeeeelp! Also do want to see friends esp those with babies but not family, or those without kids who want to 'see the baby'... Sad am I very horrible? What are you all doing?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 15:54

I've had constant visiters as the ils have to stay as from abroad and are not together so that was 2weeks, my parents aren't together either so it's been constant. Have vetod dad this weekend and upset him but need peace and quiet!!

Tell them you need some down time and arrange a visit it the next few weeks instead!

DillyDora · 06/11/2010 16:22

cheers seashells similar here in a way - lots of family/step-sibs/divorced parents and so on. I think I will have to toughen up and be brave about saying no.

Xav - congratulations - excellent work!

Hermya soooo sorry about the mastitis which hurts like a bugger, frankly, I hope you feel better soon.

nymphadora · 06/11/2010 16:33

hermya I remember mastitis from 10 years ago so I know how bad it is!

Those with blocked ducts etc try warm flannel/ shower on sore bit & massage

Been to nearby town today & done some shopping & lunch in pizza express. Ate one handed but dd3 just happy to sit & watch me. She fed before mains & before pudding so fitted in well!

Elsa123 · 06/11/2010 18:02

Hello everyone! congratulations Katy and ILGH great names; my DH loved Harvey if we'd had a boy.

Floozie apart from evening fussing involving on and off 3 hour feeds and this afternoon when i was pinned to the sofa for 4 hours solidly feeding without access to the remote control or a drink (my god the comedy channel gets dull) Bronwen is feeding every 3-4 hours. I don't know whether its counted from the beginning of a feed or end, but I've been counting from the end and she generally wakes on cue 3 hours after the end of the last feed and she's gaining weight well (I think- she hasn't been weighed since day 12 and she's day 23 now). Our feeds last generally about an hour including a nappy change (every time even at night), burping and obligatory hiccups.

Feeding's not the easiest at the moment. I go from her latch being fab on one side and awful on the other, only for the problem to switch sides. Currently the latch on the right is best. I did have a really sore time this week when anything touching the underside of my right breast was agonising but some leftover diclofenic from the hospital and some spring greens in my bra sorted it out. I know exactly whats wrong with her latch, she's not flaring her lips out so sucking her lips into her mouth, and I cannot get her to latch correctly. Its painful. She won't open her mouth wide enough at the moment. It seems that when I find a nice position, where the suckling is totally painless, it doesn't work next time! ARGHH!

On the plus side, i'm recovered and am managing pretty long dog walks.

SilverSky · 06/11/2010 18:20

Hello!

Can't remember if I have posted on here to announce arrival! ! So apologies if I have!!

The little fella arrived by c section on 1st November at 23:52hrs. He was 8lb 8oz and a real babe.

Will post full on birth details in due course.

Been home from hossie for two nights now. Looking after him in the hospital seemed v v straigtforward compared to being at home. Perhaps it's the change of scenery and temperature - I don't know. Feeding is all over the shop. Sometimes twice in one hour or every two hours. Duration varies between 15/20 mins to half hourly. He is not v windy. Boobs are mahoosive and hard. Have got cooling gel pads stuck on in bid to soothe them. Baby not latching on as easy due to breast size but we are soldiering in.

Desperately need some z's!!!! Will type more when am feeling more refreshed. This baby raising is The best thing and I am totally besotted with my boy tho I am so very sleepy but v happy.

Will also catch up on the thread later.

Tyson86 · 06/11/2010 18:44

congrats silver :)

I believe i may have a slipped disc in my lower back, ive been having a really bad painthere since a couple od days after having Sophie, she is 5 weeks old now and its getting worse, i can hardly walk it so agonising, thinking of going emergency docs tonight as i couldnt sleep properly last night due to any movement waking me up in pain. I dont know how im meant to rest my back aswell as looking after a newborn baby and my sick with flu 2 yr old boy. Im feeling abit fed up, tired and scared of going docs. It doesnt seem emergency enough but it hurts so bad :(
On a plus side, Sophie is adorable and sleeping atm :)

nymphadora · 06/11/2010 19:48

Congrats silver I don't remember reading it so don't think you posted Grin Have you managed to express any off to make it easier to latch? Don't need to do much justenough to soften it.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 20:16

Hi Tyson - I should speak to someone to get pain relief and get yourself checked out. Do you have a tens machine still? Pain is a demoraliser-get rid of it!! I really empathise with the flu ridden toddler-Ds has been the same this week and gave it to dd, who is still sniffling.

I hope they can get it sorted for you quickly. I know you have problems with hosps etc but they can help you :)

Silver-congratulations!! Grin

nymphadora · 06/11/2010 20:33

Anyone feeding from a cup? Wondering what to use as I haven't seen any in the shops

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/11/2010 20:40

Try a doidy cup- been recommended, but I never tried .

Watching xfactor-they are killing my favourite songs!
