You able to babymoon floozie for a few days? Get help on for dc take to your bed and build supply? Must be so tough for you right now :( hug x

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 08:34

floozie prem/tiny babies do find it harder to feed so it will take longer. I'm sure you know that but sleep deprivation removes logic! Are you eating/ drinking plenty?v important for supply!

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 08:40

hermya have you seen the parent & baby screenings at your local cinema? V much hoping they get Harry potter!!!

sam12 · 03/11/2010 08:42

shield dd is on a bottle and teat- I felt a bit railroaded into it in hospital and they were very negative about me expressing and I felt that they wanted me to go straight to formula- anyway that is another story! I thought the same as you that after bottle you couldn't go back to breast but the bf counsellor I saw was very quick to say that this isn't true and gave me lots of stories of other women who had done this. My dd got very frustrated and stressed out when trying to bf- anymore than two sucks was just too much hard work for her. So the bf woman suggested that after or mid-way through her bottle when she wasn't too hungry to put her to the breast. Not to try and latch her on- but just to get used to it without the sense of frustration and just to let her lick or suck as she wants. Also to spend lots of time skin to skin with her near the breast. In this way she will begin to regard it as a source of comfort other than frustration and stress and then this can be built up until she is bfeeding. She was very confident that dd would be back to bf and also that it didn't need to be rushed. DD is thriving on expressed at the moment obviously I don't know your circumstances but hope this helps a bit and good luck!!

sam12 · 03/11/2010 09:00

shield also wanted to say that I had the exact same thing with pooing when in labour! Interesting what they said about your bowels as it wasn't mentioned to me. At one point the two ambulance drivers, a paramedic and dh were trying to persuade me to get off the toilet but I was having none of it Smile In the hospital I persuaded the mw to let me go the toilet and then was shouting 'something else is coming out of me' Blush I didn't realise it was the baby's head- I blame the gas and air. I then had to waddle/be half carried back to the bed with a head poking out!

tired and sea I agree about the hv they seem a bit poiintless. I asked mine a question and she told me to ask the mw! She also kept going on about 'when' I put dd on formula which I am not planning on. sea hope that feeding gets better for you.
tired there must be something about those hours as they are the exact same one that dd is wide awake. Have got her up early today and am going to wake her every two hours to try and sort out her body clock.

ILGH Good luck with the big decision and whichever way you go it won't be long till there is a little baby in your arms Smile

Hermya I totally agree with you about respecting those with more than 1 dc. Was planning on having my second pretty close but now not so sure!

third that is a lovely poem and so true. In the spirit of that me and dd are having a pj day whilst I get over this illness and the housework can wait Smile

Sorry for long post. Hope that everyone is well

ILoveGregoryHouse · 03/11/2010 09:53

Third that was lovely.

I saw doc again this morning. Still no progress. C section booked for tomorrow morning. At least this means I can further preserve the memory of DS2's perfect birth. Was crying to midwife. She must think I'm a loon.

BUT, my daughter will be here tomorrow. Am crying again, so will be off now.

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 10:00

ILGH Go and read my birth story. It was such a positive experience even though it was in an operating theatre. I can understand the want for a perfect vaginal birth but a planned c-section can be positive & you'll still see dd straight away, feed her quickly and dh will get to be there. Just take note of everyones advice not to do too much post op! And tomorrow you'll have a daughter Grin

shieldbug · 03/11/2010 10:44

Good luck ILGH how exciting to think of your daughter in your arms so soon. How she gets there doesn't really matter. Certainly it won't make any difference to her. Hope everything goes well for you.

sam Oh my goodness, that's 2 of us who nearly had the baby on the loo! One of the mws was telling me that it actually happened to someone they knew of and the baby had a more interesting water birth than was intended! Thanks so much for your bf comments- I feel a bit more encouraged now. I have actually started already to try him on part way through a feed for the reasons you have mentioned and he did try a few half-hearted latches, which is progress. I think he managed about 1ml bf this morning!

third thanks for sharing the poem. It does help to get things into perspective- it's so easy to get caught up ion everything that needs to get done.

floozie good luck with the bf.You are so not alone n your struggles. I never imagined bf wouldn't just happen (shows how naive I was). Wrt your supply, it's very rare that breasts don't produce enough milk, but more likely that dd is only taking a little at a time. She'll get there. I know what you mean about not enjoying things as you should. Try just to be selfish about the quality time the two of you can spend together. Everything else is definitely a lower priority right now.

MummyWilliams · 03/11/2010 11:22

Hi! I'm still here. Thank you for all your kind messages.

I am hoping that I can help out a little bit here with people struggling with BF. With my DS I was so tired with breast feeding and having a toddler to look after during the day (which mean't no sleep catch up), I decided to let DP give DS a formula feed at night. So I would breast feed all day, DP would feed DS at around 10'ish which mean't I could go to bed at around 8'ish, and get some quality sleep til about 2am ish when DS had his next breast feed. We started this when DS was about 5 days old.

Although the HV would disagree, I decided I knew what was best for us. I also struggled with getting DD off the breast and onto the bottle at 7 months (because she had teeth and it hurt Shock).

Doing a mix of the two didn't interfere with the BF flow, and it mean't that I knew my DS would be happy having a bottle and breast. Also with the bottle feed you could see how much DS was taking.

I hope you won't think I am interfering but just wanted to pass on some advice.

x

ILoveGregoryHouse · 03/11/2010 11:28

MummyWilliams I wanted to say the best of luck with your pregnancy.

I agree about the feeding thing btw - DH and I did pretty much that with the DSs although I would sometimes have enough expressed milk for the night feed.

Hermya321 · 03/11/2010 11:31

Third That was lovely, my friend who has three under three said that her youngest was a very easy baby because he had no option but be easy.

Shield Great stuff, half hearted latches are stuff on the way to full on latches!! Grin

Floozie I hope everything falls into place soon for you.

Nymph I'm hoping so as well, I saw the trailer the other day and from what I could see it'll be the Weasley twins that truely make that film.

Well I've got the MW coming this morning, hopefully things will be ok. I'm hoping she's not going to discharge me yet, my cut is still bleeding a little and I really don't want to be left without anyone checking on it. I'm going to talk to her about it this morning.

On a lighter note, I was changing DS this morning and in the split second he had his nappy off he managed to poo and wee all over the changing mat, him and his sleepsuit. Luckily he missed the carpet. I'm now looking into some changing mat liners.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 03/11/2010 11:38

Shieldbug-Yey! 1ml more than yesterday :)

Ilgh-how exciting! A planned cs is very different to an emergency cs-you'll be able to have you say re skin to akin etc and get feeding etc. I hope it is a positive experience-different but positive :)

sam12 · 03/11/2010 13:31

shield it sounds like you are making progress re the bf. You will get there!
ilgh good luck for tomorrow- it will all be worth it when she is in your arms.
Well my attempts at turning round dd's body clock are failing already. Have tried everything to wake her up but she is fast asleep. She even slept through her bath the other day- if only she was like this at night

DillyDora · 03/11/2010 15:01

ILGH good luck for your CS, I'm sure it will be fine, I know it's not what you had planned but even your plans might have gone TU... anyway, hope it's ok. (but yr not a loon for crying!)

I'm so with all of you struggling with BF, I thought it was going so great but Toby has only put on 20g since Sunday and is nowhere near back to birthweight (and this on day 16 - still 140g to go) although the midwives are now being pretty mellow as he is at least gaining, I am sooo frustrated. Trying to express as much as possible to add to the constant bfing (when exactly?!). He feeds every 2-3 hours, and is generally pretty efficient at it, though often takes ages and just wants to hang out and at night we usually feed lying down or just stay quietly in the bed sitting up chilling and feeding and still my bubba doesn't get fat! Bah! Off to bfing clinic tmrw.

hermya put a muslin on the changing mat, nice for drying liccle bottoms too and you can wash them on hot.

hi mummywilliams! glad all is going well.

Blimey! Just expressed 45 mls at a go while reading yr posts - thanks ladies! That's best yet since I was in hospital and my milk had just come in. Must do better however...

OK, sorry for lack of namechecks but congrats to new mummies, loving the birth stories, good luck to those still waiting and now I'm off for a nap... ;0)

xxx

AbFabT · 03/11/2010 15:47

Hi, MummyWilliams - so glad things are going well for you. Do please find us on the other side when you've had your baby to tell us how the birth was, gender and name etc. Wishing you well.

Good luck, ILGH. My cousin also has her DD planned for a CS tomorrow.

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 16:47

hermya last week at baby clinic a little boy weed when getting changed and hot himself in the face. He was quite surprised & mum was mortified Grin

Waiting for dd3 to poo , she hasn't been for about 36 hours & is making noises now.

LOL at muggle those are total 'carry on' moments! Well done!

Well, we've bought some soy based formula so we may give one formula bottle on top of bf and ebm bottles....

floozie can really relate to the regime thing and not feeling like you can enjoy the baby, the whole setting alarms, filling in charts is hideous, it really got to me in hospital. Re formula, I try to think of it as medicine to be given temporarily to 'cure' the problem of being underweight, I have a big concern about cow's milk, that's why we got the soy stuff. Maybe if you see it as a temporary supplement to your breastmilk you'll feel better? It's a hugely upsetting situation though, I really sympathise. hang on in there.

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 17:14

muggle I had one of those moments too when the waters squirted over the surgeon.

Just been chatting to my friend whose baby is a bit older than dd3 & we were comparing our daytime tv viewing schedules Blush tellme you are all watching too much tv?

MummyWilliams · 03/11/2010 17:22

Muggle if you are thinking about a formula feed, I found that Aptamil was the best (as they say it is the closest to breast milk). It is more expensive, but worth it. In my experience DS was definately more demanding of the breast than DD. I think having a formula feed of the evening helps them to sleep slightly better too - which is all good. Good luck. x

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 03/11/2010 17:37

Grin some classic comedy moments there!!

Nymph, today I have been curled up in the sofa with poorly Ds and dd, watched 4 hours cbeebies followed by 2 hrs Life on Mars and now taking a shoetbreak before the bedtime hour on, cbeebies, again.

This is not normal but the only way I could cope today!! I am however going mad now and may shoot justin (normally fab) Fletcher if I see him once more today!!!

nymphadora · 03/11/2010 17:52

We do property porn mainly and also watched 'The event ' on 4OD and masterchef on iplayer.

Anyone seen any smartish stretchy waist trousers for me to get for my birthday afternoon tea next weekend?

Hermya321 · 03/11/2010 18:30

Gosh, I think my comedy moment came when I was arguing with the midwife over the epidural. She kept telling me that she'd go ring them if I got up and walked about the room, I told her that I would get up and walk once she'd rang him. It went back and fourth for a while before my doula came in and basically said 'Come on H, lets take a walk whilst the MW goes and rings the anethetist'. Gosh that woman was worth her weight in gold.

Nymph I love anything to do with property porn. I'm constantly watching location, location, location and other such things. I've also ordered the entire series of Father Ted on DVD as well this week.

ILGH Good luck tomorrow!!!

Hi Everyone,
I don?t seem to have time to post regularly at the mo. Things are still feeling very hectic here. My episiotomy got infected so I?ve just had to start antibiotics, I still feel like I?m sitting on needles and I?ve been a bit tearful. I feel so slow and uncomfortable all the time and like I?m not enjoying Harry as I should, I hope I feel like my old self again soon. BF has been fun too but I think we?re both getting better at that now.
On the plus side H was weighed yesterday and is above his birth weight, so I must be doing something right. I totally love being mum, DH and I am already talking about DC no 2! We would love to conceive naturally this time so maybe in a few months we?ll be back on the TTC Buses! Yikes x

Are we still doing the ?Birth Olympics?? Have I been overtaken yet for most overdue? 40+13 in the end. My MW thinks that my other children will be overdue as well.

Big congratulations to Bionic & David John, and Thirdtimer & Jack (I cried at the poem too!)

Congrats Shield on Harry?s Arrival. My little Harry is also a Henry, you?ve got good taste!

MummyWilliams Lovely to hear from you again, so glad things are going well.

Nymph I hope my Parent & Baby Cinema are showing Harry Potter, I can?t wait to see it!

ILGH Good luck tomorrow! You?ll be cuddling your LO before you know it. x

sam12 · 03/11/2010 22:13

I've never heard of parent and baby cinema- will have to look it up! My first night out since dd's arrival is going to see Harry potter- how my life has changed!
Have been researching baby massage and swimming lessons today. It looks like it will be expensive but I think it will be worth it
