The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

Blush Blush Blush Double buggy, not double bugger!

Wanderingsheep · 01/10/2010 14:16

Thanks Grigglepuff! ha ha!

EauRouge, if you're craving them then they must have a certain vitamin in them that the baby needs! You must take the craving seriously, just like I do with chocolate and cake. Vitamins y'see! Wink

Welcome to all the newbies!

Who is the poster who moved into a new house and found the smell of the carpeting really horrible? Our bedroom has had an overwhelming stale smoke smell since I've been pregnant - DH can't smell it so I suppose it's my super-sensitive nose, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and feel like I'm choking on it. I think it may be coming from the carpeting. Is there anything I can do besides cleaning the carpet? I've got an air freshener that mostly covers the smell but I still catch whiffs of it.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/10/2010 15:35

americanexpat- i think cleaning it is the best way but you could try sprinkling bicarb of soda on it and leaving over night before vacuuming, this might take the edge off the smell. i have a sensitive nose too and it's annoying when smells wake you....

good luck!

40Weeks · 01/10/2010 15:54

Also, apparently a bowl of vinegar will absorb the smell of cigarettes but not sure if this is just fresh smells or works on old ones too....Good luck - we have painted our living room ceiling 4 times and put sealant on twice and yet still the yellow colour comes through from previous owners...yuk.

Eurouge mine was jelly babies yesterday! just HAD to have them. Baby likes sugar Grin

40Weeks · 01/10/2010 15:55

Also, we are selling our double buggy as we hardly used it last time - a biggy board is all we needed, very handy and much cheaper. You can buy a universal one on ebay for about £30

40Weeks · 01/10/2010 15:57

Buggy board! Not biggy - why cant we spell 'buggy' today???

40Weeks · 01/10/2010 16:00

Sorry am being a thread hig - someone asked about homebirths - I am hoping to have one! I have had one with DS2 and had planned one for first time round but was induced so it was a no-go. Good luck though, I definitely preferred it

40Weeks · 01/10/2010 16:00

THREAD HOG Grrrr to spelling and fat fingers

angels1 · 01/10/2010 16:06

delia I've been to zell am see - very lovely, I'm v. jealous!

wanderingsheep if your logic on cravings meaning we need nutrients from that food being true I'm not sure why i keep craving hot chocolate every afternoon...Hmm there's no realy nutrients in that Confused Wink

americanexpat I think it was moominmama (orvery possibly wrigglesrock) with the carpet issues. Sorry I can't remember though (very guilty emotion). Agree with needtosleep that bicarb is great at neutralising smells - apparently a bit in your fridge it good for the same reason if there are any wiffy foods in there. I don't really like febreeze type things as I find they just mask the pong for a while but never actually get rid of it (Imo anyway). Open window always helps breeze smells through (but a bit brrrrrrrrr this time of year).

Got to work again today but felt really car sick on way home Confused.

americanexpat · 01/10/2010 16:16

I considered a home birth but decided against it. I'm hoping to use a MLU with a pool - I realised there's no way I could get it together enough to arrange a pool for home, much less filling and emptying it.

We've lived in this house for 20 months and the smell has only started to bother me since I've been pregnant, so I'm sure it's just me. I'll try the bicarb, but without moving the furniture, I'm not sure it'll help much.

After ElleB's mention of the chocolate factory, I can't stop thinking about chocolate. I've already been through a Lion bar and wanting more...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/10/2010 16:38

angels1 didn't bold itself because of the ( directly in front of it. Since they changed the coding to let you bold whole chunks of text easily, you can't do it if one of the asterisks is directly next to a punctuation mark. So you can do ( angels1 blah blah blah) but if you try (angels1 blah blah blah) you get the results you found.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/10/2010 16:41

oh no angels, so sorry about not feeling well in the car but well done for getting in to work, did you enjoy it?

I'm a bit excited about having a home birth (nervous too) as I know I'll feel much more comfortable (have a phobia which means being in hospitals makes me panic a lot). I'm planning on using a birthing stool and not a pool as I want to be as upright as possible for as long as possible.

Have made a huge pot of minestrone soup to see me through most of the weekend as realised have been eating so much rubbish and that it might be a good idea to eat something relatively healthy for a change Grin

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/10/2010 16:43

I would have liked a homebirth with DS, but couldn't do it for complicated administrative reasons. And then he was large and didn't engage and I had polyhydramnios so I would probably have wound up high risk and being advised against it anyway. I do wish I'd been able to afford an independent midwife for that pregnancy and birth, though, because then I'd probably have avoided the c-section (which was because of a positional issue that a good old-fashioned well-trained midwife can resolve relatively easily). Ah well.

Since then I've been on VBACs and a planned HBAC is outside my personal comfort zone. I did find with DD that my contractions went from "quite spaced out and probably have ages yet" to "one on top of another and should get to hospital RIGHT NOW" very quickly, so if that goes even faster this time I could potentially end up with an unplanned home birth...

EauRouge · 01/10/2010 18:39

I'm going for a home water birth, so far it's looking positive and DD's birth was straight forward so I'm hopeful!

There's a chocolate factory near me that has an outlet shop, I went along one day and there was not a single oompa loompa :( How disappointing.

wigglesrock · 01/10/2010 18:46

Hi all, glad to see I'm not the only one planning when I can stop work Ledkr, spent most of dd1 gymnastics lesson, working out mat leave! Going to finish Christmas Eve (Christmas is busiest time!) and not back until mid Oct 2011 Grin.

I was comparing scan pictures of my 2 girls and the newbie, and I used to snort at people who told me their babies scan pictures looked like someone, but I swear dd1 and newbies scans are identical even the way they are awkwardly lying!! DD2 is completely different!!

wigglesrock · 01/10/2010 18:57

Just wanted to add I'm not Santa, although I may have the padding, just with my mysterious alluding in previous post to Christmas being my busiest time Smile

jackinthebump · 01/10/2010 20:21

Wiggles - you're not Santa, that's good as I would I think have been a little disappointed to find out Santa was a lady!

I had my Mat leave worked out weeks ago!!! Starting on 3rd January - I'm told my two may make an appearance any time from 10th Jan!!! So thought 3rd would be the wisest choice as I will also be stuck in the office by then. BUT I have 4 weeks holiday to take before too, so my last day at work is going to be 1st Dec!!!

No idea when I will go back but aiming for start of Oct.

I am finding it awkward to get in and out of the car already and looking very pregnant! Also work means I fly every 2 weeks so wont be able to it for that long so December actually benefits work a bit too!

Hope everyone is well and that those with SPD are not in too much pain! Welcome newbies!

Grannyapple · 01/10/2010 20:32

Hi Ladies-not been on for a whole to due to work being stupidly busy & family down visiting from Scotland. Slots r filling up now re: visiting before baba arrives. DH & I have agreed to not having anyone down for 1st 4 weeks whilst we get to grips with everything as it's our first. They are struggling to take the hint tho so will need to keep reinforcing it...can't think of anything worse than having family in the house when just out of hospital & then them visiting every day. Will feel obligated to look after them & could just do without it really. Sounds selfish I know, but worse things will come out of my mouth around that time so trying to keep it polite but firm for the mo!

Got scan on Monday so kinda excited but nervous at same time-feels like ages since last one! After that, let the shopping commence!

Glad to see angels that u r getting back into the swing of things! Hello to newbies & good to see everyone is progressing nicely, aside from SPD!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/10/2010 21:42

Wiggles -- are you an elf?

wigglesrock · 01/10/2010 21:58

Ladies can i please bag the award for the latest post on here so far. I have been out to a party and got bloody stitched up by dh mate to take him and his friend who we didnt know home,I hate that when you are pg. I have had a really long day, physio on my pelvis and was so tired i actually shouldnt hae been driving never mind drivng complete strangers all over Cheltenham.Grrrr

angels1 · 02/10/2010 08:31

Morning ladies

wriggles if your not santa, or an elf, the only other thing I can think is you are Mrs Claus Grin

I noticed when driving yesterday I was taking things much more carefully and slowly than usual with the thought at the back of the mind that I needed to be careful not to be in an accident and hurt my little baby. It sounds a bit mad as it's not like I drive madly or looking for an accident normally, just felt an overwhelming protective urge to take extra care. Anyone else get this when driving/any other time?

knittakid · 02/10/2010 10:46

angels I've felt like that when cycling, I'm normally a confident cyclist and lately I am just scared all the time and whenever I do anything assertive I feel as if it was actually just dangerous and feel guilty. I'm cycling a lot more on pavements...

I was also going to say that wriggles might be Mrs Claus.

Have a nice day you all.

40Weeks · 02/10/2010 11:12

Morning everyone
Grannyapple I think its very wise not to have too many visitors. When we had DS1 we were living at my Mums while renovatig this house, and had family visit from Wales and Spain. Before I had ven got back to Mums from hospital we made a stop at a family members house I remember walking in, feeling totally overwhelmed and bursting into tears. With DS2 had a lovely relaxed homebirth, followed by Dad and his DP arriving on Day 2 or 3 to stay for 5 days. It was lovely having them here in one way, but DF didnt even make a cup of tea while here and really didnt realise how stressful it would be! SO this time and visitors can stay with my sister! Esp if this is your first, and perhpas planning to breastfeed - dont need a room full watching as you try to get DC to latch on!

Had what was supposed to be a lovely lie in this morning, but entire night and morning was peppered with horrid nightmares about sick children, me dying, and not realising I was dead until I met other dead people. Woke up crying and feeling really spooked out, like it was some sort of prophecy about me and/or baby. Anyone else having vivid dreams/nightmares? Sorry to be so morbid on a Saturday morning - feel a bit silly about it all Blush

Hope everyone is ok, and SPD sufferers getting some relief. I have a bad back at the mo but know its not as bad as SPD. I only had it very minor last time round and it was horrible.

God what a moany post.

Thanks wiggles your post about not being santa really made me laugh
