The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
byronicheroine · 21/10/2010 12:00

I have had a few 'wobbles' too, where I just look down and think - god, I'm really doing this, then!!
I think we'll all be fine, tho, with the support from MN [sychophant emoticon] and maybe even in RL...
expat also have the space issue, and those moses baskets are so cute... still waiting on what we get given to make a decision tho
highlandlass Lovely names :) I like Iona - it's my sister's middle name that I was allowed to choose, and she uses it as her name now. Hamish would be nice, with the whole scottish theme, just get your DH to agree while you're in labour - apparently you can get away with a lot of things!

So far we are leaning towards ancient Greek names for our little one, so a Hercules or Adonis could be on the way (both totally normal names here, by the way!). Or something a little more unusual that I'm not brave enough to post yet. We'll see. At least my parents (old hippes) won't care, even if we decide on Rainbow or something - DPs parents have gone old-school greek on us - after not having lived here for over 30 years - and get stroppy whenever a name that isn't FIL name gets mentioned (Panayiotis, in case you're wondering...!). I think they should be relieved baby is getting their surname so there!

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 21/10/2010 12:04

Ohhhh I think Hercules is brilliant. Go on post them....:) Love Athena too.

My friends middle name is Rainbow, her sister picked it when she was 5..!

Friends have just called DS Huckleberry, which i'm not keen on but it really suits them as a family.

ledkr · 21/10/2010 12:22

Psst...i thought the morning dampness was just sweat NOT THAT I GET IT OF COURSE :o
Does anyone feel the tiredness creeping back? I am shattered to the point of tears by 9. Had to get dd form a brownie thing at 9 last night dh was working so we got chips on way home. All well until bedtime and it all kicked off cos she was tired i guess.
It all ended in tears for both of us and i ended up shouting so loud that i thought the neighbours would phone the police!!Then couldnt stop crying so phoned dh who was meant to finish at 10(it was now11) and shoted at him that he should be home then sobbed myself to sleep. I feel a right numpty today. I cancelled my physio cos felt so crap from crying.
I will be so glad to get back to normal life, body and emotions. Anyone else this irrational. Am doing nothing today as we have baby show tomorrow so want to feel better for it.

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 21/10/2010 12:39

Ledkr: I feel your pain. A bloke walked into me in the supermarket last night and hit me with his basket. I left supermarket, got in the car and started crying...!

Doing nothing today also, i'm still in my PJ's. Much to the shock of the plumber when he arrived 6 hours early.. [hblush]

angels1 · 21/10/2010 12:43

Glad other people are having wobbly moments too and it's not just me (I always feel so bad when I have these wobbles having had a mc last year. It makes this pg seem much more precious)

highlandlass I love Beatrice - it's one of our possible name options. Is it really becoming more popular now? That's so annoying. It seems ALL the names I come up with are now getting popular. I really want a relatively 'normal' but unusual name and all the ones I think of are ones I don't know anyone else by that name, and think it's uncommon, then when I look into it it seems it's on the up. Same thing happened with Jacob, Noah, Matilda and Dorothy (all names I quite wanted).

I do like Iona too though - I went on holiday to a tiny Island called Iona when I was younger and it was beautiful :) Also think Hamish would be fab.

Hercules is great. What's the one you didn't want to post byron ?

angels1 · 21/10/2010 12:51

ledkr the tiredness has never really gone with me! It's much better than first tri but I'm still incapable of doing anything close to what I used to manage. It's so frustrating to have so many things to do but never manage anything. I'm also completely irrational most of the time - DH only has to say something in a vaguely cross/annoyed way and I burst into tears.

Is anyone else feeling a bit of inbuilt heating? I went to the small local post office this morning and kept the shop door open to get some fresh air in (very strong smells in there Confused ) and post office lady kept saying very loudly 'it's very cold in here, brrr, look, the doors open letting all the cold in' but I didn't take the bait, I just kept smelling all the fresh air with smugness at not getting frozen. I also have bedroom window open all evening to get some fresh air in and DH keeps moaning at me it's too cold (he's there in thermals and jumpers on and I've just got summer PJs and feeling perfectly warm).

ledkr · 21/10/2010 12:53

highlandlass yes i have felt like that too especially people letting their kids race around with a shopping trolley in sainsburys WTF?
I text my friend yesterday to say i like Ivy and Elsie and she asked if i was taking the p**s.How rude Smile
Today i am liking Edie but i thinkl its still Ivy at the top. I suggested GiGi last night but dh said he would prefer a human name for his daughter ha.
Is anyone else feeling breathless?I have just posted on pg thread as it is getting worse and i am quite worried. I weigh quite a lot now too so am bit worried its my heart but thats my paranoia i think.

zerominuszero · 21/10/2010 12:55

I LOVE beatrix but couldn't agree on it with him indoors. I have been keeping this a secret from everyone so far but as long as none of you promise not to tell were pretty keen on Sophia. We both love it and we can't agree on anything else so that's it. But shhhh as don't want family to know yet.

I have many aches and pains like everyone else but one thing I don't have is wee or discharge. In fact I'm currently sleeping bottomless which is unlike me and I don't get up in the night every night yet. Often dh gets up to wee in the night more than me [hhmm]

How's everyone going with middle names? We were going to go with poppy just to really annoy my family but I now like it so much I want to save for dd2 should she ever be brought into existence. So now were trying to think of a nice name we like but don't like TOO much iyswim

zerominuszero · 21/10/2010 12:58

ledkr how is Elsie taking the piss its a completely normal nice name!

ledkr · 21/10/2010 13:02

i thought so but everyone likes to put their 2ps worth in dont they? I actually love it that most people hate the name Ivy as it means it wont be common.

Dorothy will be middle name as its my Nans and dh Mums. Quite like it too as a middle name only tho.

byronicheroine · 21/10/2010 13:11

Ok, you bullies, but please be nice about them... Kallias and Zephyrin. They are both greek names but quite unusual even here, but we like them. We're not even sure if we're staying here - do you think they are 'international' enough (pronunciation-wise)?
Maybe i'm just hormonal....

Names are fun! I like Sophia, and little man may well have been one if he'd been a little woman.

Above-mentioned little man is currently kicking me quite hard in what feels like my lung. Oh well, off to my first pregnancy yoga sesh (and mitching off work - tee hee) soon so that may shut him up!

zerominuszero · 21/10/2010 13:16

Kallias is nice and is plenty enough international I think. Zephryn isn't quite so much to my taste but again its pretty international I think. I think they should definately be on your short list.

wigglesrock · 21/10/2010 13:19

I am exhausted too, and actually mentioned to Mr Wiggles this morning that I felt very breathless. I'm lucky dds are in bed for 7.30pm but am so tired that I can't be bothered doing anything, in fact can't even be bothered going to bed early!!!Just sit and flick through crap tv until I force myself upstairs.

zero dd1 is called Sofia, I love the name and have never regretted it, people comment on it all the time, don't worry I won't tell a soul [hgrin]

Re popular names, I think when you get a name in your head you are more attuned to it, and hear it more than you did previously. I also think it all depends on where you live. DD2 has a really "popular" name apparently but we don't know any other babies with it and there is only 1 in her big sisters school. Because we're in NI some other names that people love ie Niamh, Orlagh, Aoife, Caolan etc are really popular here.

When I went to primary school there were 4 of us with the same name but thirty twenty odd years later I don't know a single other one and you don't hear it that often either [hsmile]

SlaughteredSheep · 21/10/2010 13:19

Oh I'm loving all the names you lot are coming up with! You've all got good taste!

Zero, I love Sophia! It's DD's middle name but I sometimes wished we had saved it.

SlaughteredSheep · 21/10/2010 13:24

DD's name is ALWAYS being named on the baby name threads as too common and over rated on here but I still love it!

I'm knackered too! DD is at preschool all day and I've been napping [hblush] oh well, I'm making the most of it before I can't anymore!

knittakid · 21/10/2010 13:27

Exactly my feeling expat ! beyond the birth, when I look at my belly and think, oh, there is something in there that WILL HAVE to come out, then to afterwards... I just can't imagine it!

That Linkadoo is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of, I'll wait to hear from the prof to whether I could ignore the 'no sleeping in there' clause (during the days, just for naps).

prof and others thanks for nappy recommendations. I'd be air drying on the landing of the stairs, I guess, and washing every two days wouldn't be such a pain.

Love both greek names, and Sophia was one of my fav for girls.

I'm also starting to get really tired again, not helped by difficulties sleeping, so my heart goes out to all of you already mums...

angels1 · 21/10/2010 13:33

yes wiggles you have a good point. I have quite an unusual name (in an old fashioned sort of way) and the only person I think I've ever known with my name is my Granny [hgrin] . I always liked being the only one in the class (and even school) with that name. I guess I just sort of want an equally nice yet unusual name for my DC. All the ones I come up with DH says are too old fashioned and sound like an old person Confused . Whoever said Poppy - I really like that too - it's on my shortlist Wink . byron like those unusual choices - they both sound good to me, although never heard of them before. wiggles I taught a Niamh a few years ago and had never come across the name before - I had abolutely no idea how to pronounce it when doing the first register of the year Blush

angels1 · 21/10/2010 13:37

Then again, Abigail and Emily are two of my fave girls names options. The only thing stopping me from picking one of those is the fact they are in the top 50...but then, I keep hankering back to them as options so maybe I should give up on my obsession with an unusual name and just go for the one I really like like slaughtered Hmm . We have a boys name chosen, just haven't got the girls one sorted.

SlaughteredSheep · 21/10/2010 13:37

DD was always in hers for naps, Knitta and I mean always! [hgrin] I stopped leaving her in it for longer periods when she got to about 9 months as I used to feed her in it too and put her in it while I went to get her breakfast, she spotted something that she wanted and climbed out [bad mother] there is a warning on, not to leave them unattended though [hblush].

Once DD's naps were less frequent I would put her in the cot upstairs.

Deliaskis · 21/10/2010 13:46

Lots more updates again since I was last on here - I can't keep up with everyone, but congrats on scan and gender news, and lots of exciting plans underway! I too am really thinking about actually having a baby now, rather than just being pregnant. I think we're going to have a baby weekend this weekend as there are a few things we need to buy and so on. Haven't thought about nappies yet though, not that far ahead yet!

Lots of lovely name ideas, and I'm being totally honest here, nobody has yet mentioned anything that has made me think 'WTF?', lots of lovely ideas.

HighlandLass We love Claudia too but hadn't realised until a few days ago that it means lame/crippled, although apparently only because Claudius was, it doesn't mean it in any deeper sense than that IYSWIM. Not writing it off yet as we love it!

angels read on the other thread that you are signed off again, so sorry you're not feeling better, but pleased for you as I think it sounds like it is the right thing for you. Also [shy hand in the air] for the 'moistness' as well Blush. It's not just you!

ledkr am totally with you on the exhaustion, I was last night 'working' (as in I am a Brownie leader and was responsible for planning/running one of the events in our area) a similar event to the one your daughter was at (our 2010 2010 2010 promise making ceremony), and honestly litter-picking at 9.30pm felt like the absolute pits, plus it was freeeeezing - I don't seem to have the pregnancy radiator thing going on so am really feeling the cold!

Stay well and healthy ladies xx
Dx

SlaughteredSheep · 21/10/2010 13:46

Re: names, I used to be best friends with a girl who had a really unusual name. Everyone we met would say, "wow! What's your name again? Oh that's a really cool name!" I certainly had never heard the name before I met her. Now the name is EVERYWHERE probably due to a certain celeb. The name is Keira! So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you may well choose a name that is not very common now but a few years down the line it might be.

I don't see my friend anymore as she moved away but I imagine she's quite annoyed as she loved having an unusual name!

zerominuszero · 21/10/2010 13:51

slaughtered kitta we bought something like that when I hit 12 weeks as we felt we had to buy something to make it seem more 'real'. It was only £15 so a barg - but I've heard rumours that some kids will like them and some won't and you won't know till you have yours.

My guess is that Prof is going to say that you can't let them sleep in them for too long as they're not flat. The useless very helpful Mothercare assistant we spoke to the other day about a from birth car seat mummbled inanely helpfully about how they can't be in them for too long when they're very young as they're not flat. But I do very much want my dd to enjoy being in it as I think it looks quite fun in there [hsmile]

angels1 · 21/10/2010 14:16

delia (which btw is another name I quite like!) I forgot it was the brownie 2010 thing last night. I'm a brownie leader too [hgrin] but haven't been able to go in ages as it's at my rubbish time of day (late afternoon) when I always feel too ill to go out - brown owl and I did say we could move brownies to lunchtime so I could go every week..but then, the children would all be at school [hwink] . I know we had heaps of brownies congregating at a local school last night for the event though. I must ring brown owl and ask her how it all went. I miss brownies!! Are you managing to keep it up post baby? I don't see how I can as will have to take baby with me and the amount of noise/screams that go on the baby will have no chance of sleeping and will probably just cry alot.

Yes, I'm signed off as of next week. I still feel really miserable and guilty about it but I can't see how I can do my job when I'm so limited with cooking still and just can't manage running around my room making sure everything's in oven at right time/everyone doing everything corectly/no one is messing about/everything is clean. I think it's easier for everyone if they keep the supply on who is far more reliable than me, and hopefully without the stress of work I'll feel much better Grin

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 21/10/2010 14:24

discharge and breathless, why didn't i know about this before..??!?!?! Pantyliners are a must, DH was a bit taken a back when I wrote them on the shopping list. He asked and I advise best not to know darling..!

People are very rude about children's names. I very much feel my father has forgotten how hard it is to pick a baby's name...!! It's hard when you are trying to please not only yourselves but also PIL etc are so going to have a view. I've already had a fight with my father about Honor. Told me it was old fashioned and then suggest Iris..! WTF that's old fashinoned too. Told him to get a life granddad...and no cuddles if I hear any back chatting in the ranks..!

Zero: Think Sophia is stunning. Mums the word.

Byronicheroine: Kallias and Zephyrin are cool, not to may taste however (as i'm sure you can see from my list) if it works with your surmane and you love it, then yeah pop them on your short list.

Deliaskis · 21/10/2010 14:30

LOL angels I actually like Delia too. It's not my RL name, I chose it for online stuff as I love to cook (always have done) and my friends used to say I was a regular Delia (at a time in our lives when we were all younger and hardly anybody could cook properly!).

Grin to discover another Brownie Leader, yes last night was the end of all our centenary celebrations, so big night for Guiding. We had ours outdoors at the rugby club, hence the cold, but it was good all the same (and better than rain anyway!). Got a bit hormonally emotional though hearing 3,000 5-18 yr olds all re-making their promise together. When everybody moans so much about what young people do or don't do, I was proud to hear 3,000 local girls standing up pledging to, basically, try and be a good person, try and make a contribution to their community and not be self-absorbed. It's moving, and I think it would be even without pregnancy hormones! I've been OK doing Brownies whilst pg, had 7 weeks summer holiday which coincided with when I felt really bad, so that fit in quite well. I do get tired though, and also have a singing thing on Wednesdays (Brownies is Tuesdays) and I am finding that if I do Brownies, I'm too tired on Wed for singing, so am trying to alternate now. I have 3 other adult leaders so it's not necessary that I'm there every week. Also have a bit of pregnancy caring less about other things going on, but am trying to not let that get me down.

Don't know how I'll fair after baby. I sense I might be more like to go whilst on mat leave than after, as going back to work plus Brownies plus baby feels stressful just thinking about it! Will have to see...

D

PS sorry I went off on one about Brownies there!
